Let’s Talk About That Guy Who Transmigrated to Pursue Me

Description

Wen Xuan was the head disciple of Water Cloud Sect’s sect leader. He spent the first half of his lifetime respecting his teachers and placing importance in the way of Dao. Friendly towards other fellow disciples, he was everyone’s role model.

He once believed that he would spend a lifetime like this. Until one day, he met a younger fellow disciple (shidi) who was unbelievably skilled.

This shidi told him that this world was actually a novel. And he, Wen Xuan, would become the most unsightly, petty little villain in this leveling up style cultivation novel. With the next half of his lifetime on a bumpy spiral downward after an erroneous decision, he will be betrayed and deserted by friends and family, cast away and end up dying miserably alone.

“After dinner for leisure, many people would use a mocking tone of disdain to discuss your disastrous life. But no one knew how you survived through all those years. No one saw how you struggled to hold on to your principles in your lonesome. No one cared about the suffering you experienced and your perseverance. But I saw it. I know. I care.”

“That’s why I came to this world. To become your support.”

TLDR; its good. I recommend

I randomly picked up this novel because I saw that it was completed and had a decent length and an interesting summary.

Let me tell you... I was not prepared to read any of this. Not that it was extremely ground breaking or anything, but I truly went in blind. I didnt even look at the novel updates page before I read, I went directly from the CG discord.

... more>> 11/10 !!!!!

It's some good whump... a lot of hurt/comfort, I'd even say its mutual salvation. More focus on the hurt, and the comfort is shorter and more implied.

The entire novel is basically narrated by the novel character (wen xuan), and not the transmigrator (jian yi). You're deliberately kept in the dark on what Jian Yi is doing or thinking a lot of the time. That in itself is interesting, but on top of that, the reader basically doesnt know anything either. You learn as you read for real... no omniscient point of view. You know what the two main characters narrate to you and that's basically it.

The story is incredibly short for a world building this expansive, which is unfortunate, truly. I think there was so much potential for expanding on the side plots and small inferences for the larger things at play. I think that the novel could have even followed the original plotpoints, but lengthened on the emotional development of the main characters as well as the implied world building and complex side character relationships for a richer experience, but the current story is already very nice.

The character development was great. You see them changing, as every experience, every hurt and consequence affects them. Until they finally become the people you see at the end of the last chapter. I was really worried throughout the whole thing because of the power imbalance between the MC and the ML, but in the end, it got resolved quite nicely. There's no stockholm syndrome, and the MC has a good head on his shoulders, he knows how to think for himself. Just a warning that it's super super super duper slowburn. It's more character development/relationship driven with romance as some toppings you sprinkle on top to finish off the dish.

Aside from the main characters, the side characters also have complexity. Their own struggles, troubles and fixations. Vague inferences from the side characters hint at bigger plots, and some of them go through their own mini character arcs, but a lot of the stuff is left unsolved or vague. You're left imagining how things are with them, but that is fine too. You dont have to know how everyone is doing, or how things end for everything. Sometimes you meet amazing passerbys in life that you never meet again or know much about, but that's just how life and this novel is.

It's an open ended story. Leaving much to the reader's imagination, but I'd rather keep it that way. It feels somewhat empty because I am reluctant to part with them when it feels like you've only seen the prologue and their journey is just starting -- Like there is awhole nother story after this ending. However I'm firm in my idea that the way the author concluded was quite nice.

I would definitely recommend reading !!!

Because it's such a concise plot, if you cant read between the lines and understand the implied contexts, then it would be a bit hard to understand the specific motivations or accidentally miss vital subjects and misunderstand the main characters. But despite this, I think it's a wonderful gripping read that's definitely worth trying at least once. :)

It's a refreshing spin on common xianxia transmigration tropes, and it's a joy to read after reading dozens and dozens and dozens of ones that go through the same patterns over and over again. It has it's imperfections but that in itself makes it a charming story. <<less

Reading this is emotional abuse I tell you. The MC is such a Mary Sue (except he's not strong at all) that I want to smack him across the head. If not for the frustration I felt for the ML I would've abandoned this novel.

The MC always have to save everyone. And I mean everyone, even the one that doesn't believe in him, harmed him, excluded him! OMG I was so mad reading this, even I doubt myself why I continued. I mean, if he saves stranger, I don't really... more>> care, it's good even, cuz we lack kindness nowadays. But the way MC do it, I say he's s*upid beyond belief.😓

Don't even talk about the romance, the MC and ML only got together at the end after dancing around each other endlessly. Even at the beginning, I felt bad for ML, he did so much for MC, but he's underappreciated. (Altough I feel like this half the reason cuz I dislike the MC)

MC only tried to help the ML at the end of the novel (talk about reciprocation here). Meanwhile he continues to help and save everyone but ML (what a joke). 😡 I feel like if ML isn't obsessed with MC, he'll already left him along time ago. The only people who would continue to help you without reciprocation, if not obsessed, is only your parents duh.

Just read at your own risk. Even if you like the MC, I guarantee you will be frustrated. 😞😩 <<less

Reading it from the start not even looking at the tags, I just knew that the ML would be one of a mess. He gives off that vibe of a cornered beast EVERYTIME the MC would be with other ppl, I just wanted them not ending up together sorry haha.

It is unhealthy but satisfying.

Can't say I really like Jian Yi's countless reckless and selfless behavior. Like that is totally relatable but knowing obviously that this would only cause a heartache for Wen Xuan after Jian Yi became the center of his world. Wen Xuan can no longer live without the other and so does Jian Yi towards him.

Can't wait for the next chapter, I'm really loving this novel and am very hooked into it.

An extra star for the translation. It was really clear to understand and nice to read.

Personally I felt the way the story was written was really bland. I had to force myself to read this one and then I had to stop at my point. And I don't get the ML at all. His actions, words and thoughts all clash with each other in a very annoying way. Like he's supposedly smart but then he does rash things and messes things up for the MC despite him trying to help... more>> him, and the MC completely accepts him with minimum suspicion. Really? The MC is supposed to be above twenty years old and yet he blindly trusts almost everyone and bears with everything like a naive child. Just my opinion though. <<less

I enjoy reading this novel very much. So far, every chapter has brought a smile on my face in one way or another and I can't wait for the translation to finish.

Update after finishing and rereading in another go: Yes, I still like the story and the ending does make sense, I feel like some people who left comments here finished of to early to understand certain things better.

Around chapter 42 it does get a bit weird; you can kind of get why certain plot points are there but... more>> they could have been connected more cohesively. The ending may also be a little crammed, I would have loved to read maybe one or two more chapters (or a bonus). I would probably change my rating to 4, maybe 4.5 stars if I could. Other than that I believe that the story may look like it follows certain patterns but it's still cute and a nice read. It's not that super basic but the dynamics between ML and MC change quite a bit which I like, the review by LibrArt gives a very good evaluation too. <<less

ML is a typical good shixiong who is loyal to the sect and believes in the goodness of everyone. It is a tiring persona for me to read so I stopped before I threw my laptop away in frustration.

Hm, since it's still early to review this, I would only say that it's quite interesting for me. The MC seems like a independent and reliable character, so a plus.

For now, only this that I could picked from the first chapter. Let's see how the play would progress.

This novel is an experience, when I started reading it I thought it would be a quick and silly story without complicated relationships or delving into emotions, I even thought it would be another one of those novels where one of the main characters does things completely outside of morality, being obsessive and a bit psychotic, with a cliché ending where all of this is forgiven because it was done for "love", but that wasn't the case.

Sorry if I wrote something wrong, my English is not good.

Too many things were left unsolved. The end is way too abrupt. I'm also disappointed about the pace of the character development. ... more>>
Spoiler

The MC and ML lives together on an island for 30 years with no changes, and MC being horrible, conceited, nasty and unking toward everyone except ML. And the character growth of MC happen only in a few days after 10 years of separation? Unbelievable. This is why I hate timeskip. I don't feel that there is any evolution of the characters during the first long timeskip. It could have been 6 months, that wouldn't have made any differences, so why bother making it that long ? It looks like the characters don't talk to each other and are in suspended animation during this timeskip.... The second big timeskip is more believable in term of character growth for the ML.

[collapse]

What is good about the novel is that the MC yandere behaviour is condemned and not passed off as normal, even if it comes a bit late. <<less

Though it gets a tad boring and slow in the middle (in my opinion) reading until the end was extremely worth it

There isn't a great deal of romance, but the subversion and deconstruction of common transmigration bl tropes and the character growth more than makes up for it.

It's strongest point is definitely how it comments on the toxicity of the protagonists' relationship, how codependency and obsession are ultimately harmful, but it doesn't end on a bad note.

Instead, the characters learn from that and we get an ending where they both... more>> work to a healthier relationship.

Only pity is that the last arc of the story is rather rushed, would have loved more story development during it.

Overall, very recommended read if you are a fan of the genre!! <<less

I really love this novel. It holds a special place in my heart, despite it being denser than other ones I've read along with some uneven pacing issues. See, there's hardly any filler in it so it feels like you can't quite catch a breath. I had to take days to read it in full.

Jian Yi is a magnificent bastard of a character and to fully enjoy him, you have to read it until the end. Just remember that at the root of it all—if you find yourself wavering in... more>> confusion over all the opened plot threads—is Wen Xuan's journey to self-discovery, and also Wen Xuan's journey of discovering Jian Yi. <<less

I thought this story will steal my heart in a way "A Smile From The Villain" does. Both stories started out as your pretty good old xianxia until the tension in plot suddenly grew heavier and then bam they dewelve into yandere territory. Both have good and memorable side characters, have depth, and can't be fully enjoyed just by reading on the surface.

But this one has better start. Every chapter was such a page turner even up to 70-ch-ish for me. But perhaps it was too good that... more>> author can't keep up with the initial quality, and so I love it but hate it like "an iron for not becoming steel"

Still, I don't agree with most bad reviews here. Maybe I'm just more lenient with things, but anyway the things that failed me in this story are not the time skip, the end, the dissappearing of the side characters, or the toxicity in the middle. For me they are really reasonable and easily bypassed.

What failed me are the most important emotional aspects and characters' development in the last few chapters. It also made the biggest messages in this story fail to deliver itself well.

Spoiler

Like how, that people are replacable, however as human you can make choices and decisions to stay, to leave, to create a new place for yourself, and to make places for other people in your heart.

See? What beautiful message.

[collapse]

See? What beautiful message. But Wen Xuan's train of thoughts failed to deliver it as well as his own initial characterisation.

Spoiler

Mind you, I never saw him as white lotus. But at some point, he was written like he whole-heartedly blamed ML for everything -- as if ML didn't accompany him saving and doing whatever he wants for more than 30 years -- he was written so distrustful towards ML as if ML never gave him choices. Made me feel a bit bad for ML. But in the next chapter he suddenly showed to have some guilt afterall, but still felt a bit ungrateful. I'm not completely on ML's side, but this make me understand why some reviewers on MC's side and some are on ML's side.

[collapse]

I can forget about others flaws, I just wished this was executed better than anything else.

Anyway if not for that fail in emotional aspect in the end, I would gladly give this 5 stars.

~~~
Other inconsistency or lack of explanation that I think make others story message fail:
Spoiler
It's not written or explained explicitly how much or why people dislike spiritual beast. Did they actually hunted that much? Why some people seems to really hate them but at the same time still know that spiritual beast are sentient? If they know spiritual beast are sentient then why still hunt or dislike them??
Why in the end appeared a place where spiritual beast can live outside of human influence? Why they didn't think of running there since the start?
Why people in the little valley, one of place where spritual beast can live peacefully, didn't understand the difference how spiritual beast treated inside and outside?
If this stuff fixed or made clear I think a lot of things would make more sense or even some of the characters' choices would change accordingly
[collapse]
~~~

Good starts, easily bypassed flaws, failed to deliver it messages well in the end.

It's still a good story tho, and good food for your mind (would be better if you can read under the surface). <<less

Up until the ending it was good -- really good.. None of them was all powerful.. Their inner conflicts, character development all were worth of reading..

And then --- it just ended..

Nothing is concluded in the end except that our protagonists got together, and that the original protagonist of the original story turned a new leaf..

But then what !!! What about the MC's missing master.. Or the demon.. Or their upcoming journey to their old island.. Or their old sect members !!!

Such a rushed ending only ruined the taste..

This was so good!! This type of 'Yandere' is the type I like and not too overly gruesome and just par up to my tastes. The ML and MC are so compatible with each other and they are just so cute >...< I love how both ML and MC solve each of their own issues with their characters and even helping each other. I just like it so much... the angst, romance, and the yandere-feel here are just all too well-balanced and perfectly conglomerated altogether for me. That's why I... more>> give it 5 stars. It satisfied me with the ending and the story progression. Im kind of wondering why does it have a tragedy tag and I thoguht before reading this that it was BE... nah its HE guys. I guess the tragedy part was the MC and ML's past.

    1. ML (Jian Yi)
      Spoiler

      ML's obsessiveness is not that super yandere to me because I have read more yandere type ancient novels like this and in there was more... ughh so cruel. And at the later part of the story, you will understand the type why he became like that (ML). Idk.... at first parts of the story, he seemed too vigilant and suspicious of other people especially around MC, however he dared not to hurt someone unless they came for him and even he, ML lures them over to accept their own wrong doings and make them suffer. (Well because he already know the story so ofc he knew the dark secrets of each characters there.) I love how ML threw away his OVERLY possessive side and btchy attitude to others and tried to make friends in the last chapter. I love this song!~

      [collapse]
    1. MC (Wen Xuan)
      Spoiler

      Yeah even he admitted it at the end part of the story, I still commend him to know he depended TOO MUCH on the ML before. However, I disagree on some parts of this. MC is a great character and always tries his best to appreciate and maintain good relations with everyone, but just because of his unknown (because he isn't aware from the orig flow of the story) demonic beast bloodline, he was suddenly betrayed by everyone w/o even giving him a chance to explain. It just pains my heart to see him like that. And even if he depend on ML on many parts, he also was not lazy and tries so many activities on his own, in short his head did not grow large just because of an OP ML appearing so suddenly. ML is right abt him, he is just too forgiving and weak in conscience and does not know too much of hatred and such. When someone do smthng bad to him, he will just forgive or just ignore. I kind of hate this part of him smh.

      [collapse]
    1. For the other side characters.
      Spoiler
        1. Daosit YeShenGe and Shifu Chu Lian must be another CP right?? Lowkey wanting them to have an extra about this.
        1. Bruhh dont hate me but...I still love the main couple of this story but.... just maybe a spin-off..... That Luo guy who always provokes MC into competition x MC Wen Xuan..... hmmm... lowkey wanting to see how they get it on lol. There was a part of the story that seemingly became ambiguous about the two but mehhh... Luo guy is STRAIGHT and is into that traitor and double-faced Zhang shimei... Yeah I said it she's a no-no. She liked MC before? Bruh after her hearing the true bloodline of MC, she did not even hear from him an explanation and just spread the rumors all around the sect and stayed away forever.. That's good she should stay away for eternity. I thought she was a good person but it looks like its not.
          [collapse]
One thing I also noticed is that these people have TOO TOO TOO TOO TOO much animosity with demonic beast that no one dared to examine and know them... bruh they just straightly kill them on sight. Ne Ways, the translation was chef's kiss! The plot was definitely worth reading! <<less

To tell the truth it was not so bad, it is only its end without closing its gaps, in which one is left with dissatisfaction, in general I did not like how everything was resolved so quickly, people change but need a process to heal, it happens in a day for another but with a long process.

Ahhh the story was a good quick read and it was super duper enjoyable tho it felt a little bland but it gets the points across

Their love development was quite slow but or more like in the early chapter more one sided and I like how there's a bunch of character development involved like how the MC was finally willing to accept himself and the ML to realise some shts, yes he's a little bit too obsessive and manipulative but we resolved that problem, the CP was cute too

Idk... more>> what else to review but I recommend this if you want an easy read, quick, and simple Wuxia Novel to read <<less

It honestly is one of my favorite novel and although the ending was slightly abrupt I still liked it very much. Yes the MC is very kind and good to others and yes the ML is possessive and many people seem to have problem because of that but need I say that every one cannot be same and honestly I wouldn't want this story to change anything.
If you are wondering whether or not u should read this I say give it a try.

Ok yes the story is sort compared to other and at times like the ending dose feel rushed. BUT-

1-Its a good read for when you want to have a light read and not spend a month catching up.

2- some things are left loose but I don't think they were THAT important and im sure that it would resolved it shelf like in the original novel.

3- I was starting to hate the ML and his obsession n controlling nature, even with his back story. But in the end I was able... more>> to see how great of an impact the words said to him where and was happy to see him try to change and Finley try to mend his wrongs.

4- our poor hero in the end stands on his own and the relationship progressed slowly from depending on each other too much to a more healthy one.

5- in a way they knew but didn't truly know thier feelings till the end. And I felt happy with it.

So yes a good read and good ending. Not everything has to be perfect. <<less
