Let the Villain Go

Legend has it that Ye Peitian’s blood has the miracle effect of saving the almost dead. The strong human beings swarmed like ants and insects under the banner of justice, just to achieve their ulterior purpose.

Using Yellow Sand to crush all the coveted people, Ye Peitian let his broken body soak in the pool of blood.

A woman appeared on the edge of the battlefield and approached him quietly.

Ye Peitian lightly pulled the corner of his mouth with a little effort, drawing a sneer. Even a low-level saint dared to take the opportunity to take his blood and flesh.

He closed his eyes, however, the woman stooped down and put a warm coat on him.

Ye Peitian:? ? ?

When Chu Qianxun was dying, she saw what happened in another parallel world.

In that world, the big demon that made the world fear him was not a demon, but smiled softly and shyly at her.

For that smile, she stepped on the bloody sea of corpses and carefully approached the brutal bloodthirsty demon.

But she heard the person say: Go away. If you get closer to me, I will make you die badly.

When she really turned around, the corner of her clothes was pulled.

Even if the whole world spurns you, I will hold your hand.

If everyone is afraid of you, then let me love you.

This is a sweet romance between the most feared man in the world, the man that everyone calls a demon (in a world where actual demons exist!) , and the first human to show him kindness.

The male lead is very gentle and utterly in love; throughout the story he heals from his trauma and finds his own place in life. Though this doesn't mean he's a pushover. Or an a**hole! It's actually shocking to think back to the beginning and how he was basically a corpse, and realize how far... more>> he's come.

The female lead is very bold, which is something I don't see a lot and I appreciate, and has great character development. She's his guiding light and he's her steady support.

If I were to describe their relationship it would be "perfect househusband who intimidates people behind his wife's back" and "inspiring adventurer whose cleverness and kindness get incredible results." They spoil each other.

I love how they both improve and how they support each other's growth. I think they have a very healthy relationship once they get together, and like how they both make friends and have support systems. Also half of the story is just their fluff and dog food lmao.

This doesn't have most of the misunderstandings and drama common in a lot of romances. Though there are certainly one or two characters that try to get between then, they don't doubt each other.

There are quite a few good subplots. It involved some dark stuff but it never felt too heavy, as well as some humor. There are some small questions that never really get answered, but I felt satisfied with the ending. The MTL is pretty good--the only think that's a bit messed up is some of the pronouns.

Overall this story is part fluffy romance, part apocalypse, part alien fantasy, and part superpower au. It has beautiful, subtle themes about recovery, love, human nature, what makes a monster a monster, bettering yourself, and one of my favorites - how powerful kindness can be. <<less

It is I, the self-proclaimed MTL professional! Since this story already has a lot of good reviews! I'll make mine jsut about what I like in the series!

a cool and admirable female lead! While I don't really care about character development much, she has it, so that's good!

a male lead who is gentle and soft to the female lead, and to other people who are nice to him, or weaker than him. Gentle man, YASSS!

I ship the main couple so much! Aaahhh!! A sailing ship, whoop!!

This novel reminds me of From Far Away/Kanata Kara in that old-fashioned shoujo action/adventure way, where love is pitted against moral decay and the heroes' kindness is their strength (not that they aren't strong in the physical sense). And I mean that in the best possible way. I felt a little nostalgic as I read. My heart was touched and I loved all the major characters and even the final boss villains. I have only good feelings for this novel and I'll be checking out the author's other works.

This 2nd book definitely gives off a different vibe. ML is not that shy and forgettable person anymore and apparently, he has grown some balls from prolonged torture. FL is surprisingly softer if we think she was this OP monster in the 1st book... But I feel like I enjoyed it more because I've read the harsher story first and got to know the characters and the lore behind all the fluff.
The biggest problem in this story is the anticlimactic ending. The big bad guy problem can't be solved... more>> in the 3rd quarter of the last chapter for crying out loud... The other book ended in an abrupt way too so I feel like this author can't decide how to end stories or they're just bad at it.
I gave the first book 2.5/5. This one was definitely more balanced: 3, 4/5 (not 3, 5 because I don't wanna complete it to a 4..) <<less

This story is TOO D*MN CUTE!

Just when I was giving up hope on webnovels, this story entered my view.

The MC is the right balance of bad*ss plus good girl. Not to arrogant, not to sweet, not too merciful, not too tough. She works hard for her OP.

... more>> Though the ML is OP, he's really sweet and fluffy. I loved him! And I love how the MC dominates him. It gets quite hilarious!

The action is good. And there are parts that are heart wrenching, but not so bad that it makes the story depressing.

Even the side characters are fascinating.

Why I didn't give it 5 stars?

Spoiler

The ML who is believed to be a villain by most people. But because of one public act of kindness, a city suddenly stands to fight with him. It would be more realistic if it took time for them to accept this like it took the powerful city lords, but this all happened in less than a day

[collapse]

Also, the ending seemed a bit rushed to me but it was still great!

Let the Villain Go is a spin-off of Apocalypse Arrival. Some comments say that it doesn't matter what order you read them in; I totally disagree. There are major plot spoilers for Apocalypse Arrival in this book. Moreover, the major characters, relationships, and themes are clearly meant to build on Apocalypse Arrival's foundation, and in many ways LTVG is structured as a sequel despite technically being set in an alternate universe. (In my review of AA I mentioned that the novel is incomplete, and I highly suspect that the author... more>> wrote LTVG with the intention of filling some of those gaps).

It is very difficult to discuss LTVG without comparing it to AA when LTVG is constantly prompting you to make those comparisons. Chu Qianxun often interacts with characters mainly by recalling their counterparts in AA; her battles rely heavily on her recollections of battles fought in AA; etc. So let's discuss the changes made in LTVG:

  • Ye Peitian has now suffered years of torment; initially I very much enjoyed that he was now a more suspicious, ruthless, traumatized character. However, his trauma is mostly discussed in terms of the 3 months he spent in darkness (which already existed in AA) instead of the years under Shenai that LTVG adds. His character very very quickly reverts to the selfless naive version of him that we saw in AA. It's extremely discordant.
  • Chu Qianxun seems to be less practical and ruthless, but it's unclear why because the story's premise is kind of unclear. Chu Qianxun's experience of the events in the first novel is initially described as if it's a dream showing her events in the third person, but later she demonstrates mental abilities as if she had actually personally experienced the events of AA and been mentally honed by them, and she often discusses events of AA as if she had gained the memories of her AA counterpart. But the Chu Qianxun in AA had memories of 10 years of the apocalypse, which in this novel would extend 5 years in the future, and the Chu Qianxun in LTVG never demonstrates any knowledge of future events. I first thought Chu Qianxun seemed softer in LTVG because she has only spent 5 years in the apocalypse instead of 10+, but Chu Qianxun states that she was cruel and apathetic 5 years into the apocalypse, and it was the dream-memories that softened her. But why would memories of herself as a more ruthless person make her softer? In AA, Ye Peitian is the soft one in the relationship while Chu Qianxun was more ruthless, so I thought her being softer was to balance Ye Peitian being more ruthless here, but as I already stated, Ye Peitian reverts to a softie extremely quickly. In short, it just didn't work for me.
  • Jiang Chengzhu is older and he's given more depth. He's basically the only repeat character that successfully builds on his characterization in AA instead of just repeating it.
  • Xin Ziming is now ruthless - except that just like Ye Peitian, he very quickly reverts to his AA characterization without regard for the lasting trauma that has made him a different person.
  • The half-demons are a superficially interesting concept, but it's never made clear why their demonization doesn't work the same ways as everyone else's. Normally, demonization is predicated on a psychological change in a person's heart, not just a physical one. It's never explained why these people can be physically changed without the usual psychological trigger. It's also never explained why the prayer ability cannot cure them, which is wildly frustrating if you've read AA since that's Chu Qianxun's ability in AA! It's also unclear why Ye Peitian's blood can be used to cure partial demonization. He himself struggles not to demonize every time he upgrades - how could that be if his blood has an anti-demonizing effect? I won't even talk about the half-demon villain because he's the most one-dimensional, irrational, annoying character in both novels.
  • The three-dimensional moral quandaries of AA are flattened. LTVG abandons a crucial precept of AA which is the need to behave cautiously. In AA, Chu Qianxun would have to decide between safety and helping others. The danger was real and she was forced to make sacrifices and rigorously protect her own, particularly Ye Peitian. In LTVG, Chu Qianxun and *especially Ye Peitian* are in a far more precarious position, but they act far more recklessly and suffer no consequences. It completely cuts any tension or sense of danger. This problem is at its worst with LTVG's attitude toward demons. AA never shied away from the fact that demons are man-eaters and antithetical to human life. In LTVG, Chu Qianxun decides to befriend a demon that eats human beings regularly, never intends to stop, and specially targets Ye Peitian for his tasty flesh all because it likes to listen to her tell stories. 😑 She repeatedly expresses her wish for humans to get along with creatures that can eat nothing but humans. I'm just speechless with how monumentally naive this comes off. If this was where AA was heading thematically, I'm honestly glad it was left incomplete.
This review was very critical but only because to me AA is a 5/5 and that's very difficult to match. LTVG is a solid, entertaining novel. I have lukewarm feelings about it. 3/5. <<less

Yas. Yas. And YAS!

This story is so sweet and fluffy about two people. The ML was an extremely pitiful one. No matter how much kindness he gave, when people knew about his identity, it was as if his kindness to them evaporated. Our FL became our ML only salvation and warmth.

Spoiler

ML hated darkness because when he was prisoned, he would be put in a dark room with no light.

Definitely a five stars for me.

WE EATING GOOD TONIGHT

tbh, I did not give a rat's *ss about the fighting and monster aliens and demons. U see that romance tag? I am here for that romance tag.

Aliens were like, "we need to reproduce yall, humans are our evolution friends, without yall we can't exist" and I rlly went who caaareeeess????? go extinct?? author has some common trends that she repeats in her novels, like this also appears in her other novel Invasion about monsters deserving to coexist with their beloved food, humans. and once again, idngaf.

The... more>> villains, ahhh I wanted to skip their parts. It's got me thinking of the evil catholic church and religious trauma. Basically they keep coming back like pokemon villains and fly off like "i'll get you next time!" and don't just die and keep COMING BACK. It's ok, not a big fan.

I keep reading because the author's MC are all strong, dominant af women. Got the lesbian in me fking blushing and kicking my legs when she's talking up the male lead, and I was not expecting that from a straight novel, especially when I came in thinking I'd love the ML. MC kabedons him, carries him, smooches on him in public, like girll is this what they call rizz? She full out tongue-kissed him in front of people and everyone CAN HEAR THEM in their apartment........... She's so nice to him that he doesn't even get the chance to yandere out because she's like yup you're mine I'm yours nothing can break us, I love you 3000 babe.

I'm conflicted about the novel order cos I read this one before Apocalypse Arrival, but I like this novel more. You still have to read AA for context, if not you'll be like me and be confused the whole boook like hello, I did not have this parallel universe dream who on earth is that new character?? Should read AA first, but this book is better. <<less

You have already learned from other reviews that it's a fluffy novel. Truthfully speaking I always have a weak spot for soft hearted pitiful mls. These type of novels always make you happy with a tiny bit of sadness. Man! The ML went through so many tortures! I'm glad the FL at least gave him some care. He was hungry for a small care. If you help him once he'll return it ten times bigger! Such a lovely ml! I'm so happy that he had a happy ending! This is... more>> way much better than the alternate universe one. This book lover proud slytherine recommend this! My rating is only for the ml. I just wanna say This world made you suffer my ml. Stay happy from now! <<less

Just chef's kiss 😚

Go read this, you won't regret it. I guarantee.

Pro:

  • not too long and not too short, the length is just right.
  • Character developments are so satisfying.
  • No teeth grinding misunderstanding.
  • Many fluffs, especially in later chapter.
  • Both FL and ML are bad*ss from the beginning, with OP ML and weak to strong FL.
Cons:

  • The background for the story and the sub plot is dark (if this is not your cup of tea), but not depressing dark or really really dark. Besides, the fluffs counter balance everything.
  • I wish there are extras after the final arc. 😆

I love, love, love how the roles between ML and FL are reversed in this novel lol. FL is the dominant one in their relationship and she always dotes on ML whenever she can. ML is always the one needing reassurance and is a very good househusband. Most of the characters actually had substance and aren't purely evil or good. Though I did regret a bit that I read this first since it did have a lot of references from the first book which is Apocalypse Arrival. I suggest reading... more>> that first before this one since it literally was the sole reason why FL approached ML and helped him at the start of this novel.

FL is a very strong and determined character. She knows what she wants and how to get those things in an upright and righteous way. She isn't a saint that saves everyone and isn't someone who would sacrifice herself or her loved ones for the sake of the majority. This trait makes me like her more since people are naturally selfish especially when it comes to life and death situations. She isn't coldhearted though since she does help out if she knows she (and ML) can handle it and is able to discern the right from the wrong. Prior to having the dream (the alternate reality of Apocalypse Arrival), she was keen on surviving so she lived pretty lowkey and didn't bother to get stronger. After that dream, she ended up helping up ML and couldn't help but care for him and later be tempted by him. She easily infers that her dream is an alternate reality and ML is still the same ML in her dreams so she wasn't scared of him at all and her heart even felt distressed for ML. She then worked hard to be stronger in order to be able to fight beside ML and not bring him down by being his weakness. As a lover of ML, she is very straightforward and is usually the one who bullies ML to bed lol.

ML is a little milk cub with the mask of a ferocious wolf. Because his blood and flesh can help people heal in an instant and may even save them from the brink of death, he was captured and experimented with several times and every time he escapes, people would chase after him and kill him repeatedly while labeling him as a human demon. ML had developed a th**ny personality and isolated himself with his heart full of hatred and loneliness. As an immortal, he couldn't die no matter how many times he was killed but the pain of his deep wounds will still torment his body. He was extremely scared and is weak against darkness so when FL gave him light, his heart stirred. He was very scared that FL might end up being hurt because he stayed by her side so he often ran away from FL and only observed her from afar. FL never gave up on him though and confessed to him her feelings which gave him the assurance and happiness he has always yearned since he was born. He was such a perfect boyfriend/future husband since he can cook really good food even in the apocalypse, he can clean FL's dirty room, and he can also support FL in her fights. As much as he is the most powerful person on Earth to the point where he was revered and feared by the people, he had the purest and kindest heart so I'm glad that in the end he found himself being surrounded by his lover, and the countless friends he gained along the way.

The world building of the novel was well-written and the plot is a solid 10/10. For me, its only flaw is that the ending was too rushed like before I knew it, the main villain was defeated in two or three paragraphs. The final battle wasn't described properly so it felt anticlimactic. I wanted to know how they defeated such a huge army of half-demons but no, they were defeated in just a few sentences. It felt so rushed as the other battles were properly explained in detail lol. Still, it's forgivable since it's a HE~ <<less

Okay, this was a good book. For all the reviews I made in NovelUpdates this is the first time that I gave a 5 star. This is taking into consideration that the standard of webnovels especially in china was very low. But still this deserve a 5 stars.

The world building was not unique in a sense, it is a dystopia that shares a variety of mix common world tropes like zombie ability apocalypse, demons, demon crystals or cores and memory transference from a different timeline or parallel world. Despite this,... more>> it is still different in a sense that the world itself was made very stable and quite believable, like if this happen in real life then it this is the proper or semantic setting that will happen. It made the book more stable.

What made it more stable is the characters. They were just fresh and realistic. I commend the author for creating and pinpointing the proper cues, nuances, emotions, reactions, and varied opinions of different character. The author was also consistent on it until the end. The MC character was refreshing and thank god that even if she is not that strong she was smart, witty, kind and fresh especially in a world were everyone just feel despair. The interaction of the characters were entertaining and I like the character of the male lead that despite the things that he experienced he was able to retain his innocent and kind self. I like this compare to those Marty Sue guys that MCs love to depend.

The goal, moral, emotions, ambitions and such elements that are essential in a book was present. It's really hard to praise a book that is good than to critique a bad book. This book is good period.

I love the part with the mentality in this book of those women that seeing another women succeed in her life and love, they don't go stealing someone's man instead that the MC deserve the male lead and they should also strive to be string so that they can find a guy also in the future. This is the first time where a book that gives equal opportunities for men and women to be string gives an accurate depiction of a mentality people, especially women, experienced. Commendable.

I really at first wanted to love this book a review it deserves but I was anxious to read the alternate book. KYaaaaa! I was really surprise. Seeing that the ending of this book was made in haste and quite lacking of a closure, apparently there is a second book. Actually I'm quite torn as the blurb states it's a reincarnation book. Is this the parallel world the MC saw or a different one. Regardless, Im gonna read it. <<less

Another Gem!! The chapters uploaded by translator are divided into parts that's why in here it is more than 90+

The ML really has tragic life. His redemption is gradually described in the story. Eventually his pureness and simpleness are manifested.... And is constantly harassment by the FL. Yup, the FL is really like a rogue.

I sometimes think that that the ML's personality is really suitable in BL novel. He looks like a tragic and simple shou XD

Downside for me: it started good but eventually became so-so. Also, MC suddenly became... more>> shameless (always harassing physically the ML), well a lil reasonable since u don't when u'll die <<less

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Let the Villain Go and Apocalypse Arrival are AU of the same happenings. I read LtVG first, but AA was written first and it probably makes more sense to read AA first, although I didn't think it made much difference. This series (and writer, because I have now found everything I could that they've written because I'M IN LOVE WITH THEIR WRITING) is ENTIRELY responsible for my new love of lavender scented ultra-soft soft boys. Her heroes are sweet, loving, have reasonable and rational fears, are aware of... more>> their immaturity, and are indescribably adorable. I love them. They are all just too pure for this world.

In LtVG, the heroine, Chu Qianxun, goes through the apocalypse and then 5 years later has a dream and remembers what happens in AA, so she packs up to go find Ye Peitian to save her friend. Because it's been 5 years and so much has already happened, it's incredibly hard for Chu Qianxun to hide Ye Peitian, so she has to make a mask to disguise his face and more or less hide him everywhere they are. His reveal about 3/4 of the way through is EPIC and one of my favorite scenes. I also love that they never downplay Ye Peitian's trauma - he had a HARD life growing up with a family that didn't appreciate or value him and neglected and abused him, and that really shows in his character development. So many heroes who were hurt as children seem to have brushed everything off, but this author does an amazing job of showing how deep those wounds from childhood are and how they affect the person as an adult without minimizing them or glossing over the trauma to make a Strong Male Lead Super Masculine HOO RAH MARINES FOREVER (insert massive amounts of masculine bs testosterone poisoning here).. I really REALLY love how this is done. This series is also so darn quotable - I HAD to read a few passages out loud to my daughter because they're HILARIOUS. <<less

It was a good read, the MC and ML are really wholesome! Like some other reviews pointed out, this novel really showcases how selfish and greedy humans can be. It focuses on the ML who is the victim of this greed and describes his process of healing and overcoming past and present pain and hopelessness with the help of the MC. We also see the MC working hard to get stronger to become less dependent on others to create her own path.

This is so beautiful! At first I hesitated whether I should read this or not since I am not really fond with novels that have long chapters since it consumes too much time and most of the long stories I read bore me midway that I had to stop it but this is absolutely worth reading!

When it comes to world building — it is precise, believable and convincing to the point that you can clearly imagine their world. You can see that the author had put great effort in it.

To... more>> the characters— They are just so realistic! Even the side characters are so human-like. The way the author portray their emotions, perspectives and actions to each different circumstances are just so believable. Especially the FL, as we see her pov many times, we can see that her character is so realistic that it's easy to understand her.

And lastly, for the romance! It's just so cute! I love the interaction between the two of them. It's just so lovely, sweet, cute and heartwarming. It's not rushed and not too slow. And the compatibility is just amazing! Both living an unmotivated life, breathing but not actually living found each other and save each other, encouraging one another to look forward to the future. So beautiful!! Great job to the author for making this masterpiece!! Also to the translator who found this gem!! <<less

Rating 4 stars because I got disappointed with the fight scenes. 🥲 Came for the romance, stayed for the underlying theme of what makes a being human and what makes a being a demon. This was such a good theme all throughout the novel.

However, it honestly felt like the author just wanted to rush through the fight scenes and the ending. It was so anticlimactic.

In an apocalyptic world where human civilization crumbled under an unstoppable demons invasion, a cute love story between an unfortunate soul and a tenacious woman blooms. Ye Peitian has an immortal body, a bless and a curse at the same time as for years, he has been imprisoned, tortured and experimented on to harvest his blood and flesh that can heal another person from whatever injury. At last, he managed to escape but he is constantly hunted down for his blood by people who don't hesitate to severely injure him... more>> or even kill him as he "dies" only temporarily. His life is tragic, lonely, oftens he would like to simply die but he is unable to, till the meeting with the kind Chu Qianxun who quickly becomes his light in this dark world.

There is an underlying theme which I find interesting: is it right to exploit a single person in order to heal/save other countless people? Even the MC at the beginning goes to the male lead just to obtain some blood to save one of her friend, she feels guilty but still between stealing blood from a stranger and saving her friend, she chooses the second option. <<less

The writer is skilled at drawing empathy from the reader. From the leading protagonist to the very small side characters. It isn't exactly expounded but it has the right details to be explicit about their character.

This is the main reason why the dystopia of the story is particularly strong and attractive in my perspective.

And just like the other immersive novels, the ending feels unsatisfactory. It was abrupt and rushed. The ending was lacking.

I'm not a fan of dystopia setting but this is a good read. Thank you for the author/s... more>> and translator/s. <<less
