There was a lot to like about this very slow-paced story. Especially when the MC seemed like he would start revealing his great power and care. The first 400ish chapters really felt more like a person so absurdly powerful that he only did more than the minimum when someone he cared about was at risk. This could explain why he did not actively seek out magic stones or use his wealth to purchase magic stones or at all be systematic in absorbing more magic stones.

Then the labyrinth city arc came... more>> and we found out that the story had new depths of slowness. The arc was 100 some chapters of very little followed by very little with some absurd behaviors and actions only to get to the finale the author was going for. I was able to overlook the author's skill in writing limiting the story from feeling anything but forced/railroaded before this arc. But every day the MC just gets up and does stuff with no urgency or need until things become urgent for others and then expends some effort.

The actions and seeming depowering in the dungeon city arc were so frustrating and if the chapters were not already past the arc, I would have dropped the story many times. I don't know if I'll return to this story after the chapters of the next arc are completed, but I'm not sure there were any moments in the dungeon city arc (of 100+ chapters) that were at all worth the teasing pace.

The MC is supposed to have more magic power than any person on the planet for the last several thousand years, if not ever, yet everyone else grows much faster than he does while he gets weaker somehow. And it's not just his strength that is slow to develop, but his romantic relationships are glacial. <<less

Long story short, it has good moments and a lot filler~ish short story arcs that don't really make the MC or the main story progress that much... except for few side skills the MC gains from magic stones but are not really that relevant at least so far. The good side in this is that for once there is a lot of side characters that stay with the story. But as of c226 there has only been one bigger main story arc so far. I did see that soon there... more>> should be another from the translation sites table of contents so I'm hopeful there will be some actual progress for the MC or the main storyline. While the small story arcs and goofing around with side characters can be fun read I think I would like some actual progress soon or I will propably drop the rating to 3/5

Even though I may sound negative I actually enjoy this quite a bit so give it a try if you don't mind slow progression and like fantasy/reborn in another world <<less

I started reading this novel and got hooked for about 100 chapters but dropped it since it got a little repetitive for me.

Still a decent novel though and I will probably go back reading this once it is finished translating the entire novel.

A story that starts with an op MC, neither subservient or arrogant. Not bad for a jp novel MC, not the usual wishywashy pushover. The novel has an interesting strong start but after it meets the female MC, it goes downhill fast with boring stuff that nobody wants to read. The MC is a transmigrated person inheriting the knowledge and items of extremely powerful legendary MC, even his body is artificial. But his secret is spilled pretty quick to other important characters fast. This makes the mysteriousness of the MC... more>> go down the drain and makes it kind of dull. <<less

For now I like the story. The MC or Rei sure strong at start but not OP. He just a countryside or rural 17 years old boy. So you can guess he had a laid back personality. This also mean, if there is troublesome event happening, Rei choose better not take part in it. Rei is someone like "You good, I'm good. You bad, I'm bad.". He also not impulsive justice person which always saving anyone in trouble.

Spoiler

Rei has the body of a construct made by the best magic and techniques. Which mean he has an immortal body, high mana capacity and I think there will be no longer growth for his body. He inherit the Magic Beast Art, the knowledge of the world 1000 years ago, and the knowledge of Fire magic after fused with Zepairu. Which mean he gets the theory but not the practical experience of using them. Therefore, the knowledge is a little bit useless for a beginner magician like him. In fact, he cannot even sense magic in the first place. So he need to learn it step-by-step. Magic Beast Art is more like the better Rei's griffon, Set, and the Death Scythe the stronger he become. Thus, Rei is not an OP character.

Plot?? I don't know about the plot of the story. For me, this novel is more like your daily stuff happening in your life such as interesting event, boring day, and etc. Does your life has a plot? Of course not. What about goal or objective of your life? You only have them when someone ask you. Most of us just going with flow or just doing things the way we want. Even we have them, sooner or later the goal will change. For now, Rei's goal only to get more magic stones to learn skills.

Romance?? For now, the kiss scene is done. And just like your usual virg*n boy with no experience but only theory from reading LN and manga, Rei getting shy after kissed.

Overall, I like the novel. For now I don't become annoying on the MC because of his decision making just like some or most of the novel out there. To remind people, this is "Slice of Life" novel. Thus, the story will progress slow like snail and have a lot of side events. <<less

It is really good and painfully slow. The protagonist is very different nfrom your isekai cutout as he will punish anyone the wrongs him and give you that feeling of catharsis, characters can be seen as shallow and predictable though

Now the really slow part, as if the over 1800 chapters didn't clue you in, as it likes to start major plot points then go into filler that can go to over 10 chapters of not very interesting stuff

I think it's a very good read and very well written. It's certainly an entertaining story with a lot of potential depending on the Author.

Cons: Even though he starts very OP I think his growth has been very slow. He has acquired about 5 level on skills over 150 or so chapters. Even if he is growing it's hard to tell. There is no clear improvement in his abilities after months on during the book.

Slow paced / slice of life Isekai novel, with only a few inconsistencies / open questions in 173 translated chapters.

Even though he should have one of the greatest magic capacity and power of all beeings, it's never properly shown. The only thing that happens is a running gag of afraid mages.

His power level is artificially kept on low A-rank level. Based on his magic it should be top level beyond S-rank. The scheme is: He doesn't use fire magic, because it will destroy the magic stone for the upgrade of his growing weapon / magic beast. But then again he never trys to buy magic stones from other people.

It's never stated, how exactly he can grow stronger. Till now it seems, the only strength increase will happen through his growing weapon / magic beast and new equipment.

The magic system is vague, at the beginning it's stated he has only fire aptitude. But at some point he uses mixed magic of holy + fire.

At the beginning it's shown his griffon likes treasure, afterwards never again.

There is only one deus ex machina moment, with a unclear ending of the cliche villain (escape).

love the story, I love the way his power works but the author needs to write dialogue better. 500 chapters in u dont need to explain to me every little thing again.

Also your backlog characters give too much exposition in their dialog. For example after MC takes part in a war 30 chapters ago he walks into a guild hall and 2 people are talking about him and one says "yeah he particpated in the spring war that as u know I couldnt participate in because I was injured"... more>> this is just a person that that is their only line and only part of the story. Their injury doesnt affect story in any way. And it seemed awkward.

Also at 500 chapters in everyone getting shocked by everything he does is s*upid. You cant make someone famous fir being an adventurer with a griffon and then have people not aytomatically recognize them. I mean thats s*upid. <<less

Legend is a bit of a mixed bag. I'll try to keep it simple and go over some points.

Plot; it's got a slice of life feeling. At chapter 85, where I'm at as of writing, there are hints of some overarching potential plot points, but nothing major or concrete at all. Just a random, kind of disjointed sequence of events. It's like reading a quest log or a journal, not a story so much. Feels like it might change around chapter 100, but that's 100 meandering chapters.

Main character; Rei is... more>> the MC, he's a quiet and reserved person of few words. I can't fathom what his life in Japan before he was isekai'd was like, it's like he never interacted with another human being? He was 17 when he got isekai'd but acts like he's 50 and had lived in a mountain like a hermit for 40 of them. Leads to his character feeling a bit bland and boring at times. But he's smart and doesn't act like an idiot, he's levelheaded and cold, he's a cautious character, and he does have his moments of emotion. He's also powerful, but the author was confused when he wrote the MC I think. Rei's written like he should be a super OP character, and he's certainly strong, but then the author went and put a ton of restrictions on him - giving him certain magic with limited use and a weapon weak in certain situations - in the end Rei doesn't feel very strong at all, just your average experienced adventurer; not like an OP protagonist. It's consistently written though, so it's not a big negative, just if you're looking for an OP MC Rei quickly meets people that are his equal or superior.

Side characters and relations. There are acquaintances that are introduced, but everyone's super generic character types like people who cheer for MC and people who are pointlessly arrogant and pick fights just to lose horribly. Rei is too cautious of people to form any real bonds, and nobody stays around long. Up to Chapter 85 there are people he sees frequently but he's still solo, so we don't get a chance to see side characters much and only passing relationships are made. However, that might change around chapter 100, or it could go back to solo...

World. The politics are briefly covered, other countries are touched on once or twice 70 chapters in, up to Chapter 85 is all in the same part of the world. There's virtually no worldbuilding and monsters are introduced as they appear. Not much depth to the world so far, a bit disappointing sadly.

I'll give my overall impression now.

It's a slow story. It's not particularly bad for a slow and relaxing read, but it gets a bit monotonous not having any meaningful relationships. A big part of the story is Rei's poor communication and interpersonal skills - which makes no sense as he's a 17 year old Japanese person who went to school normally, but I digress - so over the course of the story they're improving, but it's very slow. Meanwhile we're left with a socially inept MC who's a bit boring. The combat is interesting, but the Magic is one of the worst I've ever seen. Magic isn't explained in the slightest, but the MC has the most in many whole worlds and is described as mana in human form. Magic is said to use a chant and a mental image, but the chants are random and not explained, and can't be used in combat apparently, magic can be super strong but MC never uses it and it ends up feeling like it exists so the author can do whatever he feels like. The world feels small and confined, the story feels very suppressed. The MC and his Griffon have the ability to learn skills from absorbing the magic stones in monsters, how it works isn't explained, it's an ability that the MC would kill to hide from others. But he never goes out and just hunts a whole bunch of monsters for the stones even though he's got the ability. Instead he's raising his adventurer rank to the level required to kill them, but it's not a game setting so it's not like they don't spawn unless you're a certain rank, and it's not as though he's unable to defeat them. Lots of plot holes like that one that just don't get explained but seem pretty obvious, all for the sake of a slow story.

Now that's a lot of negative for 3 stars, but it's 3 stars because it's not a particularly bad story overall. It's just a very slow story without much going on and very little in the way of character development quickly. I think lots of people will enjoy it, because it's not unpleasant to read, it's just not a super high energy story. I'd give it 5 stars if there weren't so many plotholes and there was a bit more explanation and world building. <<less
