As most wuxia I've come across, it starts out strong - when concepts, and imaginations are able to conceptualize fantasy wuxia easier; though, LGS stands out due to the length of that exclusive origin building stage. It's been awhile since I was last impressed, and I mean Desolate Era - era - impressed. The story continues to build, and it does have its drawbacks, but I would recommend to any new or experienced wuxia/xianxia reader.

This novel is just not good, few times where characters are about to die (millipied) but then they miraculously survive and then are never talked about again, it would have been more impactful if they had just died. The main thing is that MC is just not appealing, he's annoying, he's apparently a idiot and a ruffian, his entire character just feels contrived.

Also there very many problems in the novel (cultivation system? the author is trying to constantly nerf him?) but I keep reading beacause certain ambitions he set for... more>> himself (power, women, blah blah)... but then he just forgoes those things (falls in love?)... fine character development I guess, but actually not (starts cheating on her... and also then author just kinda ignores... why? add just pointless characters), because the author just puts the character in a moral and plot-wise maze... overall wish I had stopped reading immediately when I felt things were going bad... what a waste of time! btw xiao an only good character <<less

This is one of the novel that I love to read. When I first read this novel, I was so addicted that I did not do anything else but read this novel only. Especially the banter between the characters.

This is one the best novels. I had even read it through lntML (don't know if it is in hiatus after 1662) . The translations are great and the kind I like to watch (nearly all other novels are just arrongant young masters cliche novels, strongest in few chapters and once you advance and dominate the land, you realize there are other millions of enemies at the same realm elsewhere then you again level up and it goes in a cylce hahaaha).

The translations are also best one I have... more>> read so far. I would love to watch this novel to the end <<less

Overall, I have enjoyed this novel. Although undoubtedly having it's ups-and-downs, Li Qingshan is a fun main character to follow in his journey.

It's a refreshing contrast with other typical CN MCs, who have to portray some aloof-cooler-than-you persona 24/7, whereas Qingshan just does what he wants, whenever he wants, as long as they don't cross his own bottom line (which I'm glad to say has remained consistent as far as I can remember up till this point in the novel).

It's also fantastic that most characters introduced somewhere at the beginning... more>> of the novel still appear at the forefront even now, 1000 chapters later. It's allowed me to really care about these characters, unlike other CN novels where Side Characters A-XFD get introduced across the same amount of chapters, where I couldn't care less if they lived or died or even just didn't appear again. <<less

I really loved the novel until he started getting a harem.

The pacing, power levels, world building was amazing. And then randomly (literally out of nowhere) the protag is saying 'I made a promise in chapter ~5 that I was gonna have a harem, so let's just start now'. The romance isn't gradually or slowly introduced or anything, you don't care about the 1st female of his harem.

For what it's worth I generally avoid novels with a harem, but I am able to enjoy novels with a harem. The part of... more>> novels with harems that I don't like is that the harems seem like they are written by someone with no concept of romance and are forced in because the male readers need to envision themselves with 5 girls with no personality within the next 10 chapters or else they'll stop reading.

I will revisit the novel after a while when I can get over this forced harem that is happening because I love everything else about it. <<less

A novel with potential, which is rare for CN webnovels, but it partially failed to deliver (which is more like normal CN webnovel).

Basically, the idea is great: we have a human cultivating as demonic beast (or whatever they call those in the novel, it's the same thing as usual anyway) in addition to his human cultivation, so it's an interesting rendering of double cultivation trope. It's a pity that human cultivation is lackluster, but the setting makes it reasonable, and the MC himself also recognizes it early on. There's also... more>> another facet to cultivation,

faith

[collapse]
. It should've been one of the main aspects imo.

Characters in general are above average. There is, of course, a crapload of cannon fodder ret*rds, but there are also quite a few intelligent and nonstereotypical characters, including those among rivals/enemies of the protagonist. Some of them were strong enough to land MC in really dire strats (and not s*upid enough to fail to do this), and some of them will leave you wondering just what the hell is it they want (some have weird mindsets it'd seem). The protagonist is quite not bad too, having an actual character growth. Since his cultivation technique affects his personality, you'll see it clearly.

If there is one group of characters that really suffer, it'd be love interests. Honestly, aside from the implied most important love interest,
Spoiler

Xiao An (and implied coz MC doesn't quite want to be in a ship with her, but there's been quite some foreshadowing)

[collapse]
, the rest is not that interesting. The main wife has pretty much little screen time, much less than she ought to, and she's more or less being left behind by MC. You'd think he'd use the shitload of resources he possesses to actually help her cultivate faster, but no, they cultivate separately, and he doesn't really help her keep up with him. Their relationship ended more like lovers or s*x buddies (let's be lovey-dovey when we meet, but we live separately and deal with separate affairs).

The
Spoiler

"elf" lovers

[collapse]
are more like concubines, being subordinates at best. MC claims he has feelings for them, but I can't quite see it in the case of the one he supposedly has stronger feelings for.

And don't even get me started on another woman,
Spoiler

Qiu Haitang. The way she was introduced was good, with her being in unrequited love with another man (it was interesting compared to common trope of love interests falling in love with MC for no reason, especially since the author wrote their romance not that badly), but once MC kinda gets together with her, or should I say is on the verge of getting together with her, he dumps her in some hideout to cultivate, and she hasn't appeared for like 200-300 chapters by the time I stopped reading...

[collapse]

Overall, this story is overly boring, especially after some 500-600 chapters. The pace is a bit too slow imo. The MC is supposed to transcend to not just one, but (it seems) two realms, but he's really taking his sweet time. You'd expect more urgency from him, even if he has a distant deadline (10k years).

To sum up, the story is good (for a Chinese webnovel), but has more potential than the author could deliver. <<less

Good plot and setting almost follow the journey to the west. Harem and others good, MC also has children. There are 3 important characters in this novel, One, (Mc) Human/Deamon, Two, (Companion Mc), Human/Undead, Three, (Adopted Brother Mc), Buffalo Sage.

Legend of the Pro Gamer
Legend of the Great Saint is one of the best stories in its genre

The Genre being MC with OP cheat code, starting from a humble beginning, face slapping a thousand people on the path to becoming universe boss with a harem of hundreds.

Exaggeration aside, we all have seen 100s of stories that fit into this mould. This is one of the best executions of the same.

... more>> Why?

World Building

A coherent world that largely behaves consistently is built steadily by the author, the "conquer one area, start of as a weakling in a stronger area" troupe is absent, rather the plot progression as well the power levels of places make sense.
You don't have 100s of gold cores and billion nascent souls pop out of the author's ass.
Similarly from the get-go there is a clear path the protagonist has, his journey makes sense and to some extent seems logical.
It isn't an infinite seek treasure seek revenge plotline.

Characters
The characters in this novel have emotions, at the very least are 2 dimensional, you can empathise and relate with them in comparison to other Chinese novels.
Side characters aren't forgotten, and they are relevant, they are not 1 D, they serve purposes other than being jokes or hype guys.
Fortunately, the fat guy, How dare you offend me villain, etc troupes are missing.

While the villains aren't amazing, at very least they aren't s*upid, which is a very accomplishment for webnovels.

Romance
An attempt was made.

Action
One of my favourite part about this novel, it has great fight scenes.
The MCs has a fixed number of moves, he doesn't call out a gazillion number of names.

Stakes
The MC can fail, he isn't invincible, kind of, the plot isn't always predictable.
Stakes exist in this novel and it makes a compelling read.

For a web novel, it is 5 stars

Strong start, but the story becomes unrecognizable. You go from a guy maxing out his abilities to a god thirsty for his next power up. Another example, all the clever stuff that happens earlier disappears into pure power match ups, and it's not fun if you continue to see the same "weak until midfight power up or utter domination".

It's a fine read, but you can tell when the filler hits, because the plot becomes random. Some of the characters are superb, but they get less and less screen time as... more>> the story goes on. When the story tells you "beyond the nine heavens" they mean this story will go on into infinity.

The novel is pitifully monotonous and dull which is a shame because it started off extremely good. It set up a dark grim and gloomy world especially for our protagonist. However, it quickly falls off from that as it just checks all generic cultivation novel trope Ultimate old master trains MC, eventually leaves, leaving behind extraordinary cultivation scripts to get stronger quickly than everyone else on the plain, Joins school offends rich young master and teachers alike, offends someone powerful goes into hiding only to comeback stronger and massacre everyone... more>> else.

-Some novels are just so bad that it turns good where as some are good from begin. However, this novel is just mediocre through and through. The battles are never interesting because there is no high risks or stakes involved and MC always has a sure victory but battles still drags on for chapter, it could have widely made up for romance but as soon as MC joins school just couples chapters later he elopes with a random tomboi female cultivator with average talents for cultivation who our Hero knows he has to leave her behind eventually when he ascends and also despite the fact our protagonist has way better chemistry with any of the female characters that have much better talents.

That being said, the final nail in the coffin for me was the cultivation speed of MC.
Spoiler

It takes him 420 chapters just to complete first realm of cultivation and after 750 chapters, he completes the 2nd realm. It became a generic cookie cutter cultivation novel where MC can fight people higher realm than his and there are no risks or stakes. I don't have problem with that, but these fight scenarios are so dull and monotonous because they sometimes go on for chapters when you clearly know MC can easily win it. He has given absurdly impossible final quest in the beginning to reach beyond the heavens and after 800 chapters, he is still only at 3rd realm of the first table even that is fine, but the other side quests he has to do are just pitfully boring and whenever there is a fight scene, I just skimp it

[collapse]

I thought this novel would be a breath of fresh air in the sea of cultivation novels that follows the same old trope and also sitting at 4.3 rating. Highest cultivation novel rating I know of, although I admit, in the beginning it was really good. <<less

The pacing is very good on this novel making you forget the time until you've caught up with the chapters. The different sides of the MC leaves you wanting more.

Spoiler

The main cultivation techniques cultivated by the MC and his main companion are also very original, I don't think I've seen any similar in other novels in the way they function and the techniques they contain. Similarly, the world-building in this novel is also quite solid and consistent, with good explanations why cultivators ascend from their birth-world when they do, what relations there are between worlds of different levels and such. The MC has yet to ascend from the initial world, so we have yet to see the full details of ascension, but we already have quite some context on the cosmology of the novel.

Sorry but I cant understand why this got high rating.

In my Opinion this is just another cultivation story full of arrogant characters waiting to be face slapped, the only different is that the MC choose the path of daemon.

Im only at chap 110 so I might be wrong, It might get better later on but Im just too lazy to continue.

I'll start off by saying it's a good novel, better than the usual out there.

The biggest drawback is that the beginning is very slow and can be a little boring. But if you manage to stick it out until he reaches an actual city then that's where it gets really interesting.

The main character can be chaotic and funny, which makes the chapters about his interactions with characters way more interesting and comical to read than the actual supposedly tense fight scenes.

The world building in this novel is excellent.

Where should I even begin? I have loved this novel from the start because how his brother ox didn't play around with saying you need to do good to pursue power; he told him what he needs to do directly. How he differs from the other main characters I have read before. He shocks everyone where he goes, and that's what I like about him. I like that from normal human being becomes strongest under nine province world, what's interesting is how he gives names to the things he gains... more>> like he names Lil navy fatty, its super funny how he names particular very important existence and gives them funny names. I very much like the innate abilities of his daemon and divine transformations. It is very interesting to see how his transformation affects his emotions and how his very nature changes because of transformation. I am very excited to see what his new transformations will be after the Qilin transformation. Sometimes I wonder in which category his human transformation will fall into? <<less

This work is on the level of "Peerless Battle Spirit" and "Martial God Asura".

It has taken the "pseudo intelligence" from PBS. Every time the author tries to write something philosophical it turns into shit. Literally one of the worst novels out there.

Even by standarts of Wuxia and Xianxia this is bad.

Spoiler

I stopped when he was starting to revive the novel department. Purely self-insertion, cringe af. Yes, antagonists are idiots. I mean, how did nobody write "cultivator in a universe full of idiots that gain memorization but not intelligence" out there? This should literally be my next title, dont steal it from me...
Forget about pacing, forget about harem being good or bad, when you cant even write semi-intelligent characters, why do you even try to make them seem intelligent?

[collapse]

For anybody interested in starting to write novels, please learn the technique of omission. Dont let your characters "droll out of their mouths when holding a spoon" like the MC or really anybody in this novel. <<less

Great Novel. Although the story is long it inevitably has some cliche story lines. Though for the most part, the author seems to be aware of this and does his best to avoid it, writing a very fluid and interesting story that keeps you at the edge of your seat. If you hate novels that are boring, repetitive, and have female characters with no personality or depth, then this is the novel for you. Each character has its own story, and each arc/area seems to carry its own vibe. Very... more>> interesting story and a fun read. <<less

This novel follows my favourite type of cultivation system (Qi Condensation -> Foundation Establishment -> Golden Core -> Nascent Soul) etc. At first, it reads a lot like RMJI, having the MC explore the martial arts world (the jianghu) without interacting with real cultivators. Then it slowly progresses into a real xianxia with flying swords, demons etc. It starts strong, has great world-building, the characters are interesting, everyone has their own aspirations and develop very well.

Not gonna spoil much but it differs from your traditional Er Gen, RMJI novel because... more>> it has harem and MC cultivating two types of systems. And I'm not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of that. Also, the MC has what I can only describe as a "very fiery" personality where his goal is to "explore the universe, sleep the most beautiful beauties and drink the best wine". It's not bad, but it certainly makes me miss the good old rational monogamous MC, like the one in RMJI, where most of the time the only thing that guides him is his cold rationality and desire to be immortal. Here the MC will risk offending people stronger than him to serve justice if he thinks it's necessary, even if that means killing hundreds of people or offending huge organizations.

Nonetheless, this novel is very worth recommending. You should try it for yourself. <<less

This is by FAR my favorite novel. Its consistently interesting, the stakes and characters are believable and the world is alive. Our MC does become fabulously strong but he doesnt intrinsically change. He is still LQ but when he does change it makes sense given the context of his powers. Wonderful novel, with top quality, consistent translations.

It's great. The fights are awesome, world build quite awe inspiring too.

It has lots of races, many paths for power, and whole kinds of artefacts. It has many lessons for life too. Really one to read if you're looking for a grand adventure.

Bad part is that it feels like 90% of everyone in the series will be a ruthless mu*derer with even the slightest of insult. Farmers, neighbors, children, even someone you happened to pass by so it's rather exasperating to read at the early part of the story. But... more>> that too will gone after some time.

I find this novel has my favorite MC so far. <<less
