This novel is incredibly unique and its style is entirely different from almost any other Chinese novel I have ever read. This makes it more "slow-paced" but also much more descriptive. It reads almost like an English book, and not at all like the short, choppy webnovels I've been reading lately, where battles take precedence over dialogue and development. It has legitimate depth and description, a whole cast of unique characters, and plenty of potential. I am very impressed at this point, and would undoubtedly recommend this to anyone looking... more>> for a higher quality novel. <<less

Just caught up, only took a couple days I enjoyed it so much.
As others have said it is slow especially in comparison to most other xianxia, there were a few occasions where I got pretty frustrated and I don't like to think how annoyed I would of been if the translation was only at that point.

However the slow pace has a very good reason, this story is a lot more in depth than most TL's. It doesn't just jump from major plot device to major plot device. Each story... more>> arch is thoroughly explored with heavy emphasis on characterization, be it MC character progression (ie a little young and naive to begin with but getting progressively more mature in line with his experiences), interpersonal relations or a more in depth view of the side characters. It's something I've been looking for for a very long time in xianxia, something I actually didn't expect to find. So yes, the pacing of the story can be pretty slow especially at the beginning but it's a very interesting, engrossing story that I find myself thoroughly enjoying.

Looking forward to more chapters. Thanks very much for the translation :D <<less

Not your typical xia story. The story moves forward slowly, but there is constant progress. Lots of slice of life, few battles. The characters are well developed, there is a strong focus on the formative years of the MC and the experiences that drive him to want to pursue the path of martial arts.

He takes a while to start learning martial arts, and only starts cultivating ki at ch150ish. (Although he has been learning some basic supernatural arts before that). Whether this is acceptable to you or not will vary... more>> on your personal taste <<less

I'll just tell why I dropped it.

1) It's not just tag slow at the start, It's more like slow all the time, chapters are big, and when I see that there are 5k of this, I thought about su*cide.

2) The characters speech is too formal and long, Its makes this novel reading even slower. Although it seems good to add it sometime, but author has some really have some fetish about it and make it so everywhere.

3) MC is really waste, I understood that he is the child, but when... more>> you are MC you need to be MC, not some random boy with heaven luck, oh yeah, they definetly forgod to add tag lucky MC,

4) There is tag destiny, but when every decision he make is the best (like hiding some information) he always have some bul**it reason to make it seem coincidental, just make him a little smarter. Maybe it's because I haven't (can't) read more, but mc's character growth is too lacking.

5) Even though there are some mysteries, that keep interest, also the world that author describes seems interesting, it was only enough to keep me this much, maybe it's my fault for being too impatient, but wasting time in search for something interesting to read seems more meaningful to me that waste more time on this. <<less

I kind of hate the MC because he experiences all these things and doesn't tell anyone about it.

Spoiler

He made a martial art by combining a bunch of less important martial arts and then he starts feeling Qi when he practices it. He can feel Qi or whatever from outside the body which he supposedly isn't supposed to with his new cultivation method. Like he just needs to tell people what he experiences with either thing and people would be able to tell him that he's like pretty amazing but he just acts like a tool by asking about stuff in a roundabout way. I guess that could be considered child like.

[collapse]

Still good. I enjoy reading a slice of life stuff in martial arts more than reading 4 chapters worth of one fight. I can't even imagine sh*t happening in that fight so I don't care about those type of novels. <<less

Very, very slow paced and deliberate. The world is desolate as far as cultivation talent despite tons of people cultivating, so while it does a good job at building relationships, it also explores the amount of powering up in 150 chapters that most works do in 5-20. The deliberation makes for a nice view of the journey... it just may not be a very good journey.

I have just started reading this novel, I know that this has a slow pace story. But Im already in chapter 20 but there is actually no progress in the story and they don't focus that much in the MC. Can anyone tell me when or what chapter will MC advance in his path so called CULTIVATION GOD? I know I'm being impatient but I don't wanna waste my time in this kind of story.

I recommend it. It's somewhat a slower paced but quite an interesting novel unlike typical xianxias. Not much there to say as of now but I am certain that our MC - Zhang Xiouhua slowly develops his mind aspiring to attain unsurpassed and complete attainment on his road to Jianghu. Signs of OP power confirmed :)

The first 1200 chapters are great. The build up is slow and is more like slice of life novel but it's enjoyable. The MC is nice and throughout the story you can feel his progression. But around the end of what is essentially the first volume (around chapter 1200) the novel changes drastically. After that it's like this volume never existed and the MC has amnesia but never really gets better. The pacing of the story and the direction is changed completely and it feels like a generic LN (those... more>> that are really bad). At this pointit feels as if the author has changed, So I suggest not to waste your time with this novel and skip it directly, because it has around 5200 chapter and a sequel with 4700+ chapters, which is too much. <<less

This listing needed the "Slice of life" tag.

The novel pretty good and character development, albeit slow, is excellent.

The pace is slow, but it's not much slower than any ordinary "Slice of life"-style novel. Things get more interesting when the MC starts cultivating inner energy, but sadly the translation stops there. I hope we will see releases by another translator without the need to have it translated from ch0 again.

Geh. I'm done. I can't take this anymore.

This novel had/has so much promise, but the writer sucks! He doesn't know how to introduce a world, characters, or what plot points to go in depth about and what to skip over.

At the beginning, I was excited. Even up until a bit after they were building the well and the MC found the bracelet thing I was totally on board and was loving the pacing. It was great. Slow, but develops the story and deliberate.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be a total... more>> fluke because the next like 25 chapters were a struggle to get though. Jesus Christ, the author elaborates for like 10 fricken chapters about an adventure to a mysterious treasure land with 5 characters we were barely introduced to and know NOTHING about. The MC is not even remotely connected to it. I'm reading it and I'm like why am I reading this? Am I supposed to know/care about any of these characters that were introduced literally in one paragraph and that we don't know at all, introduced through two characters we barely knew before too? The author even spends honest to god 5 paragraphs detailedly describing each round of a Rock Paper Scissors tournament that these unknown people play for the final treasure box. I was thinking maybe something goes wrong and these experts get injured and that sets up the MC coming into play soon, and that's why it's being focused on so much, but the trip goes exactly to plan and they leave peacefully afterward. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MY ENERGY. Dude, author... When you build a world, you introduce the world through the MC, a newcomer to the world, and we share in his awe. Not elaborate in such detail about this dumb boring stuff we literally care 0 about that doesn't include the MC in any way.

And then the author chooses to freaking go on in detail about the mc's older brother's (Xiolong) love life with the other girl, and with the detail that the author goes into, you'd think that this novel was a love story between the MC's brother and that girl. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the author started describing a love story between the MC's other brother and another girl too while he's at it.

I appreciate developing side characters, but that's not what the author's doing. He's attempting to introduce the world by just telling you through random side characters and evensucks at it. The MC is honestly a side character at this point.

Although, I will give the story credit, although it doesn't focus on the MC much, the MC is good and I like his personality and all that (at least so far), and some characters are well developed (kind of).

For a story called "Legend of the Cultivation God, " it's a really boring pile of shit. Well, it's not that bad. But I feel pretty annoyed about persevering for so long and getting nothing out of it. I feel like if the author can get his sh*t together in the later chapters, it could get pretty good. But I'm not banking on it and dropping it now. Also, the world is kind of boring and shitty. <<less

A great novel with plenty of potential depending on where the author took it, we will see as more chapters are translated over time. My only comment is that when reading it, I was bashing my head against the table for the first 100 odd chapters and didn't truly enjoy the story until his first kill and would advice that if you are doing the same, stick with it. It gets a lot better, but without reading the first chapters you will miss major key points in character development and... more>> foreshadowing. <<less

You just can’t feel the “drive” or goal in this novel. Currently waiting if there’s anything else to this novel aside from various interactions between many sects and people.

Going at c94 still hoping it would pick up a bit..

@Chapter 863

It seemed like such a good novel when the MC was younger, with more nuances despite the occasional usual stumblings of Cnovel of being more tell than show like the grand standing foreshadowing (... little the MC know by doing XYZ he is going to change cultivation world in N number of years etc) and at times the author breaking the third wall to directly tell the reader how the MC is going to be great.

Despite his flaws the author had painted an endearing MC but now he has... more>> turned into a psedo-harem protagonist all of a sudden. Meng, Nie Qianyu, Kong, Zhang Ping, Chen Chen and Chen Chen (two separate characters with same name and similar personality). I feel so cheated into investing my emotions on a character who has turned unrecognisable. There were so many places where he could have made a dao oath which were more warranted, but he made one for a character that seems to be just for adding more weightage to the likely pairing of the MC. I vehemently stay away from harem and reverse harem novels and as of now feel hoodwinked into reading an implicit one. <<less

Just want to leave the author's notes from chapter 314 (mtled), long but fruitfully.

"""

The setting of the book was slightly different from other books. In other books, martial arts was something that came before cultivation. For example, when one's martial arts reached the Connate level, one would be able to cultivate Qi. The setting of the book was that martial arts was an improved version of the Immortal Dao. The meridians of the Martial Dao and the Immortal Dao were the same. It was just that the True Qi was... more>> different. Therefore, the peak of martial arts should be comparable to the fifth or sixth level of Qi Refinement in the Immortal Dao. Furthermore, the Heaven Earth Yuan Qi was insufficient now, and magic arts could not unleash its power. Of course, it would be inferior to martial arts.

Of course, Zhang Xiaohua felt that he was no match for Ou Peng, Changgeng, and the others. However, he was belittling himself. He already had the Earth Escape, Fire Escape, and Flying Sword. He was already in an invincible position. If he could not defeat them, he could... escape.

Another tourist said that Zhang Xiaohua's godly powers should be due to his wrist guard. Why didn't I explain it in the book? Hur Hur. I think the other books are written in such a clear manner. Clearly, they are like the television dramas these days. They treat the audience as... well, they have to add a voice-over or explain everything. They are afraid that they don't understand or know. That's why I didn't write it. Actually, the readers are all very smart. Even if I didn't say it, wouldn't the tourists know? Oh right, there's also the forgetting of martial arts moves. Firstly, it emphasizes that Zhang Xiaohua's martial arts skills are different from others. Secondly, if a few words can explain the moves, there's no need for a master to teach it. In particular, giving the male soccer team a training manual would have long dominated the World Cup. Yes, it seems like the so-called training in the country should be top-notch in the world.

Everyone needs to understand this is a slice of life Xianxia story. Well that’s the excuse I was going to give it. But even the author has to fast track some events in order to push the story forward. So a little contradictory.

The story started off well but the multiple POV can be a nuisance. However it helps shape the story and link everything together. Readers need to accept this is not the common web novel where majority of the story is from the main character’s POV.

The main character is... more>> Zhang Xiaohua. You will find that he is a character shaped by his experience. He is not a transmigrator so you got to accept he is not as savvy as kids in the modern age. But even though we think we are smarter than people from the ancient world. Throw us into the jungle we will be just as clueless and naive as them.

There are many sects and in general very well linked if you focus on the plot of the story. However although there is an interesting plot twist at the end of the first arc. You will be dissatisfied by the author’s direction of the story.

The cultivation stages are very bizarre in this novel and will leave you exasperated. Firstly due to lack of explanation, secondly main character reliance of external help. We all know these stories always have the main character getting a “good fortune“ at the beginning.
Spoiler

But eighteenth level of Qi Condensation Stage and absorbing and integrating the Phoenix into his body. Sorry had to spoil it. Is just plain ridiculous.

[collapse]

I suggest people avoid this story to avoid wasting your time. Like I said the decision made by Zhang Xiaohua/and the author is very disappointing at the end of the first arc. <<less

this is the most slice-of-life cultivation novel I've ever read. Not bad, but I can see how those who were looking for a new xianxai might find it boring in comparison to the usual as it has a much slower pace. I'm normally good with SoL but even I had a few times when I wanted the story to get on with it already. I'm also not a fan of stories that have so many multiple points of view that the MC is just one character among many and this... more>> story jumps right into the multiple povs so this lost a star because of that (I always end up skipping chapters looking for the parts that actually have the MC in it).

I've only read the translated chapters so I don't know about the rest of the novel. Between the novel being over 5000 ch long and the fact that translators keep dropping the story, I'm guessing it might never be completely translated/won't be finished in the next 20 years. I'll revisit it if it ever gets picked up again. <<less

The beginning starts out pretty boring as f##$ reason being that the writer decided to write multiple parallel perspectives, some good and some pretty epic boring, like god-level boring.

Imagine 1/5 of all chapters only focusing on MC. That's how bad this novel is. The MC stuff; It's pretty good, except for his mundane matters which is pretty epic boring too.

Some side-stories are OK but we can really do without them. This would be a 5/5 novel if the author didn't add soo much filler content.
