It started off good, but then it became annoying. First, the MC is in love with a girl that already is in love with someone else. When another girl confesses, he wants to remain "faithful" to the one he loves, even though she has shown zero romantic feelings for our MC. Second, the MC is lazy and a freeloader and he likes it that way, but when he fights someone stronger than him he cries and asks why is he so weak? The MC has a skill that makes him... more>> strong, but he never tries to improve, even though he was offered a chance to be trained by someone else. Lastly, the girl the MC is in love is really one dimensional to almost non-existent. The MC just happens to mention her a lot during his monologues. <<less

Review as of v2 c11:

This novel is fairly unique in that it’s a Chinese author trying to write a Japanese magic swordsman fantasy novel with lolis and harem tropes (similar to Absolute Duo, Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance, Zero no Tsukaima, Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut, etc.). So it contains references to both Chinese as well as Japanese ways of thinking. However, it’s a classic medieval fantasy in a Western world, with magic and demons, but no martial arts cultivation (so shouldn’t be labelled xianxia). Mo Lan is a Chinese high... more>> school student who got transferred into a fantasy world and picked up by a young noble mistress, who he serves and falls in love with. He also has a cheat skill where he becomes OP if he holds a blade (sword, knife, etc.) Originally, he dreamed of a comfortable life in a magic academy serving his mistress and attempting to get her to fall in love with him, but the plot makes some radical twists along the way, and soon he is thrust into the center of competing factions at war with each other while he tries to protect the girl (s) he loves. On the whole, the story is not bad. Story pacing is a little rushed, and the author tends to use infodumps a bit too much, telling you rather than showing you through careful world-building or character development. Characters tend to be a little one-dimensional at this point. Still, the mixed CN/JP references are fun, and the plot twists do make it stand out a bit from the norm. Plus, there is good usage of a ‘ticking clock’ foreshadowing technique – can you avert a prophecy of doom and death by the god of fate?

Even though their is only 4 chapters that have been translated (by a wonderful speedy translator, asd398), the story creates a wonderful and interesting plot, the MC and the person who saved him have an interesting relationship, which forces you to keep on reading to see how it will advances (I have no clue, but the latest chapter really makes me hopeful, not gonna spoil it for you). The MC doesn't seem to evaluate himself as someone who is super strong, even though he is super OP, and has become... more>> OPer, and the person who helped him is sort of an enigma, at the start you don't really get to know that much about her as she rarely speaks. Overall I'm thoroughly addicted to this story, and can't wait for the next chapters. <<less
