The novel starts off as any other novels, and it feels like your typical slice-of-life. Once you get to the later arc, it gets serious conspiracy and political, becoming a good read. It's around chapters mid 80s when you start learning about the conspiracy.

At first it was really enjoyable and had lots of potential but when you just continue reading it. It sorts of lose itself, at first it seems very dark and sinister then became a bit lighter in term of the mood. It keep changing throughout the novel which is fine however the author keep bringing in names such as harry potter, George Bush, Jack Sparrow, etc. It was funny at first but when you continue on, its just not that funny anymore.

This webnovel can be summed-up entirely as bait-and-switch. The synopsis, tags, and cover art drew my attention. I love hybrid Eastern/Western fantasy. I love decisive masculine characters who actually earn their power. Even the cover-art looks good. Most webnovel cover art is either terrible, or outright stolen. This cover actually looked competent.

It starts out with a few decent chapters and an unusual setting. Analogue colonial Europe with magic seemed like a very interesting premise. Even better it promises some form of devil or alternative weak-to-strong cultivation/magic system. After a few... more>> chapters however the cracks begin to show. (Minor spoilers ahead.)

On a storytelling level the author has no idea what he is doing. The tone and pace of the story are constantly shifting. There is no overarching plot and the main character just stumbles around weak and powerless. The comedy is awful. The author thinks that referencing real world names is hilarious. This would be fine if it only happened once or twice, unfortunately the author finds it the peak of wit. Constant jarring and immersion breaking moments abound as the fleet McDonalds captained by Jack Sparrow sets sail.

Finally, the main character can't use magic despite magic being his primary motivation and goal. The story teases a variety of possible fixes ranging from star magic, universal law power, and devil cultivation. Despite all of these potential solutions the character remains stuck as a weak fourteen year-old. I don't mind waiting for the slow crescendo leading to the payoff, except in this case the story promises a payoff the never materializes. Instead the MC is dragged from place-to-place relying entirely on a cast of uninteresting or underdeveloped secondary characters to do all the heavy lifting.

I don't know if the main character ever ages past fourteen or gains any power. I quit reading at around chapter 100 and by that point the series had been dropped by no less than three separate translators. I speculate they quit translating for the same reasons I quit reading. <<less

The hate for this is mostly unwarranted. Sure the naming conventions can be a bit silly, but it doesn't detract from the overall fun story. For some that might break immersion, but I don't see why it would. It's been a while since I read it, but I was satisfied with the silly names because he is at least doing something with his past life's experience instead of just being a random reincarnator that does nothing with past life knowledge. Which I find more absurd than a fleet of McDonalds... more>> galleys. <<less

As of Ch.75.

A nice premise, where an ordinary Earthling was reborn into a noble family. Deemed to be a fool due to his silence since birth, the MC was left to his own devices, eventually being exiled to a far off province to avoid spreading his ‘contagion’ to his newly born younger brother. However, several twists of fate meant the MC would find himself being acquainted with powerful magicians and warriors, sending him further and further away...

The early chapters were good, very nice world and atmospheric building, even though... more>> the MC is a little unlikable early on.

Spoiler

His predicament was brought about by his stubborn reticence, causing others to thought of him as a mute ret*rd. We are never really told the reasons for his jaded personality, readers might almost think of him as the most pessimistic crossing-over MC ever for not taking advantage of his rebirth.

[collapse]
Other reviewers have noted their dislike about the name-dropping from pop culture but actually it is interesting to see a MC to use such names as an inside joke which would obviously be foreign in his new world, yet it is something us readers can relate here. However, it is another thing entirely to have native characters actually having names from our world, eg Solskjaer, David Beckham and later, Saddam Hussein (wtf).

Having the MC giving Earth-names is acceptable, the denizens having such names ‘naturally’ is off-putting. It is a minor distinction but I can’t help but feel distracted whenever the name ‘Saddam Hussein’ pops up.

The story veers off to strange paths, I was enjoying the ‘being a minor noble heir’ part when suddenly he was whisked far away, not once but twice. The focus from wealth building suddenly shifted to magic and later on, martial skills made me question the direction of the story. There are many unexplored mysteries and fortuitous connections within the small cast that are continuously being pushed into the back burner, and some characters were built up only to be written away because they don’t fit the current arc.

The translation quality is wild, the early chapters were very good but later on some names/spellings were changed, and again from one translator to another. Someone who reads slowly can easily get confused, someone who binge-read like I am would be irritated.

Decent, have to read more to recommend it. Requires time-investment and patience. <<less

This novel is a very good one and fun to read. If you are thinking of giving it a try or not, ignore the bad reviews which people left after reading only the first few chapters and go for it !

The novel picks up and its a very fun one with a lot of elements of magic, beasts and gods, with 2 secret "continents"/zones separating them, one side of humans and another side of beast which includes: elfs, orcs/goblins and Dragons ! That’s right dragons !

. The biggest problem of this book is the plot. The plot is all over the place, and the plot transitions are awful. Character actions do not follow what there character was defined as, and is often incoherent from their personality, especially the MC. His thought, actions, and reasons are all contradictory from what was shown in the past. Plot armor is used to force plot scene transitions. I forced myself to read this far as I just wanted to read a cultivation novel... I should've dropped it way earlier. The best part of this book was probably the comedic filler side plots for creating money <<less

Pretty good isekai. Shame nobody is currently translating it. It keeps a good pace and has a lot of action. Doesn't get too boggled down in describing minutiae. Lets you imagine things. Does grind to a snail's pace when they get heavily into explaining the theological hierarchy of the world's religion. Slog through it and it gets back on track. Somebody pick up the translation!

This hasn't been updated for a fair while, but there seems to be a new translator on the scene. I hope he continues to translate it till it is complete. I have enjoyed this novel for what it is, even if it hasn't been updated for a long time. I have been eagerly waiting for him to finish it or someone else to pick it up and now they have I am glad, and will be reading vigorously.

I know there are parts of the novel some people don't like e.g... more>> "Mcdonald's fleet" and all that, but if you can get past the silly naming convention, it is actually a very enjoyable novel to read. I hope people give it a chance, and here is to the future of LOD. :) <<less

Was a pretty interesting read.... right until there were no chapters to read, took more than a year off fro reading it thinking there would be loads to binge later.... and came back to something like a handful to read, looking at novel updates here it looks like theres been quite a few updates for 2019, but im thinking some of them must be reuploads or something as I cant remember reading so many in 2019 after a years break, pretty sure there was only a handful, if that which... more>> I hadnt read before I gave up.

So um yeah, not much point reading anything if im going to be a senile old man by the time its maybe finished. Doesnt help that when a chapter is released its not a complete chapter but a "part" of a chapter making the whole thing more dire than usual. <<less

Despite of the promising beginning, the story has its up and down. While at the beginning the famous names from the real world may make you laugh or surprised, but the author keeps pulling the stunt and it gets boring.

As I said, the story has its own ups and downs, some arcs may be seems boring, some chapters contain many unnecessary rambling, but when it gets back up again, things really became interesting. 3 stars is fair for this novel.

A canny MC surrounded by unexpected combination of side characters.

An MC who uses everything and everyone if he could 'but' in an interesting and tricky way. A regular person from the modern world who was reincarnated. But still thinks of his past world. He knows how to make fun of names from his previous world which can only be thought by a sly and playful character. It's a fantasy that may not have the MC starting with a strong power but has a lot of tricks and brilliant ideas that... more>> makes him strong. The other characters are interesting too that you'll really be able to illustrate them in your mind. ^_^ <<less

Believe me or not but this novel’s MC makes me think a lot about Rudeus of Mushoku Tensei. Truthfully, I had dropped the novel in my stand-by list for a long time because I had begun to dislike the slow pace in the arc where Duwei was building his little empire after being exiled by his father. This arc was beginning to smell like an annoying slice of life story. Hopefully, it was only a single arc and when reading it again, it became suddenly less annoying. This novel is... more>> really well constructed on many points :

– The MC has a well defined personnality. He is not empty and can really be described as crafty, ingenious, smart, cold, and a little evil because he has really a peculiar impression on this world. He is not white at all.

– There exists characters with OP-ness but it’s not our MC. Weirdly, perhaps because he is so out of the world, he can be called OP in some way but this OP-ness isn’t easy to deploy and our MC has a lot of work to do on himself. That makes things more realistic and logic.

– The pace of the story is steady and really adventurous. This two components makes the novel more balanced. And this balance makes the novel more interesting.

I can say that this novel is a very good work. But it’s normal that it won’t please everybody because this novel, nor slow nor fast, has a really progressive pace and he takes time to deploy its bases. In some way, it’s far more mature. As for me, I have a good impression on this novel, even if it’s not my favorite one. <<less

It is one of the most interesting novels that I have read, and believe me there were many. This story has captured all my attention from the very beginning, and the more I read, the more I became more and more interesting, and I just could not stop. Of course, in the beginning there was one thing that I was very irritated, is that the main character denies the fact that he belongs to this new world. And so it was not quite interested in anything, even in mothers who... more>> gave his life and gave him love. But then everything changes, it starts to quietly find their place in this world that really pleased me. I was struck by a few things that you will not find anywhere else. For example in this whole new world, he led us to a new all the familiar game, but that is not in this world, and this is football. The balloon will make a splash in the world where people will be able to easily and securely to quickly get anywhere and see the world from a bird's flight. Also in the pop up and the word makdonals, appear Jack Sparrow, Black Pearl, Dzhorsh Bush, Harry Potter, and he will have many more ideas. And what is most interesting is that the protagonist is not yet strong, but he always gives in such a difficult situation that he has to exert all his strength, his intelligence and ingenuity to 120% in order to survive or to cope with a particular problem. He learns SUCH secret that the mere knowledge of them is a great danger. By reading this novel necessarily, since you will plunge into a new world and just excellent will spend the time for his reading. <<less

You should ignore the bad reviews and start or try reading this light novel because it is definitely amazing. There are some jokes like harry potter, jack sparrow etc. But you can just ignore it if you don’t like humors because the plot of the story is really good. Continue reading until chap. 100+. I won't tell any spoilers.

It started getting weird with all the Harry Potter and Jack Sparrow stuff, but still its a breath of fresh air compare to the other cliche type works going on. Sometimes the plot is on point and its interesting but other time is can get weird and off plot, but as I mentioned its still something refreshing to the other works going on currently. I would recommend this novel for those that have read everything basically and need something new.

This Web Novel started out Ok and then around chapter 40 it slowly started losing it's charm, it would have been best if they have never tried to have the main character act so silly after establishing early on how he was always a silent and aloof guy. After the Jack Sparrow and McDonald's fleet parts I stopped reading this seriously. This is my opinion however so good luck to anyone who reads this my advice is don't let the beginning lull you into a serious type of novel and... more>> just go with its flow otherwise you will be a bit disappointed when you get to the silly parts. <<less

Decent start, but dropped after 100 chapters. It's all over the place, with lots of nonsense plot-armor.

It just doesn't have that "one good thing" to keep me reading, it has nothing going for it really.

Save yourself the letdown and skip.
