There once lived a pair of close twins. Although they were so different, their friendship pleased their parents, and the two sisters always cared for each other deeply.

Their peaceful routine soon began to distort as the elder twin was chosen to become the Emperor’s queen. It soon lead to ruin, however, and in one stroke, both sisters and their family lost their lives.

When the younger twin opened her eyes, she found that she had returned to the starting point when the tragedy was about to take place.

As she looked at her sister’s radiantly smiling face, she made a vow. She would become the queen on behalf of her sister to prevent a repeat of events.

Don't get me wrong, it's nicely written but this is genuinely the definition of the kind of stockholm syndrome romance story you must avoid. And that's coming from someone who been reading a lot of such story.

Imagine forgetting you hate the ML because he has a sad background and only to remember you hate him when you realize he selected you cause you are barren smh. How could you even forget such event where you were beheaded? I mean he has a sad background but that does not excuse his incompetence and guilible.

[collapse]

This story perfectly represent exactly the "women fighting another women and the men getting no blame". The previous empress is toxic AF but let's not forget it was all due to the emperor being a lustful dog. Similarly, it was that mistress doing the scheme but it was all thanks to the ML that she can do that. Honestly I don't wanna bring gender issues on this but it just perfectly represent one of my hatred for this.

The only redeemable plot here is the side story:

Spoiler

they had children!!! THOUGH how dafaq did you not go try it out, you could have discover this waaay earlier if just did the thing than have an old doc say it was a hoax. 🤦‍♀️

This novel is THE enemy of happiness. It's been months and if I think about it I still get upset, mostly angry.

Worst ML ever. The ending was not satisfying and the author decided to give us side stories idk, not about the main couple being happy (you know... after all the misery they've been through during 108chs) but about what happened in the original time line where mc's sister dies (spoiler: it's just more misery but now you're stuck with Rose as a narrator).

It's not bad. I love the political... more>> plays and revenge and seeing our MC ruining plans before the villains can even make 'em but you know... she fought for so long alone, she deserved a happy ending. Alone or with someone who could STAND besides her.

At least her sister is happy. The other side story is about her and her cute husband. Very cute. <<less

Intensively plain. I can't. I tried and stayed for the drama but once the 'villainess' Rosemund is gone, the romance not only is plain, but it just boils your blood. The ML, after tricking the FL, abusing her, ignoring her, goes to just "full love" her, so he ignores her wishes to leave the palace in a very very egoistic way ('do whatever you want but don't leave me'). He is a baby child that needs a therapist, not a wife. Trizia deserves better. The writing was ok until when they 'trap' Rosemund, which was bland and poorly done. Lucio then becomes a helicopter who doesn't let the FL live her life as she wants. Everyone around her pushes her to conform to her married life (when ML married her so he could later divorce her, so it seems plausible to believe the divorce could have been done). And the FL just... has no resistance. She's like "oooh poor Lucio", and is being carried away by the current. There's no romance there, just staying with the mu*derer of her family out of pity.

5 stars for our badass queen. But I took off one star because I don't think Patrizia deserved this ending for ALL that she sacrificed. She practically carried this novel so I hoped for a more impactful and conclusive ending for our strong MC besides a quick 'they lived happily ever after in love.' The later lovey-dovey chapters do pull at my heartstrings and I do feel terribly bad for Lucio but what he needs is therapy. He can have this happy love story later plus I think I much... more>> rather the main leads end off as friends. And as for the "villainess" (is she even worth mentioning?)
Spoiler

You'd think the "villainess" who lived and died once already would have more clever tricks up her sleeves... what an amateur.

Interesting plot with strong-willed female lead. I think people should continue to read till the end chapter instead just reading the novel half way, and talking sh*t about this novel. The most satisfied chapter for me, are when the FL confront the ML saying, she loath him very much. All the frustration that build up from the first chapter hitting up the ML.

This novel has a good start and potential for development. But storytelling is poor and characters development also.

ML is basically masochist and enjoys being hated by MC. And MC, although I find her quite pitiful and admire her guts, I cannot grow any further positive feelings for her. Basically there is no romance and bizarre if any arise.

Romamce sidestory of 2nd characters is not interesting either.

I give 2, 5 stars as sometimes it’s annoying but not as bad as I want to drop (yet).

I understand why many would hate the ML, however, give it a chance and read on.
I Initially do too, until I realize I shouldn't compare him to all those Strong Male Leads out there...
As he has his own issues and had no way to deal with it until later in the story with the help of MC
at least he had his realization fast and does not victimize the MC after that...
(Although sometimes I want to ask him to just... do something and help her... at the same time, I can't blame him for acting the way he did... It's already amazing that he still hasn't given up hope and continue to live...)

The MC is a strong one, the reason that I kept reading... everything she does to protect herself and survive is really admireable.

rereading this novel and suddenly realized why I dropped it in the first place, I had 2 fundamental issues with this novel (albeit that they might be "resolved" in future chapters that I never got round to reading, but they still leave a bad taste in my mouth)

Firstly-

Spoiler

If the ML Emperor was sooo traumatized by what happened to him as a child, with the tragedy of the empress and his commoner mother, why the help would he essentially create the same recipe with his current relationship?!?!? I don't care if he was plotting the dethrone her or whatever the scenario is basically a copy+paste plus or minus some superficial nuances. like can anyone be that dumb? Even if the mistress is his life saver or whatever, this is beyond ridiculous as a plot line. Am I the only one who see it, surly not.

[collapse]

Secondly -

Spoiler

Why the hell is the Emperor the male lead after the rebirth? I dont care about his trauma, redemption arc, his difficulties, blah, blah, blah.... this due mu*dered the girls whole family, he is her sisters ex husband, he is repeating the same behaviors in the rebirth and no amount of therapy or understanding would lead a sane person to fall in love with him after all that... unless they had a lobotomy or something. So he had a difficult childhood, well boohoo for you, join the club... haha ok im getting over invested, but seriously it makes no sense

This is basically an anti-romance story. I should have read the tags first.

For the first 50% of the novel, the reborn, dignified Queen FL tries to live a quiet life while her tr*sh, traumatized King is brainlessly in love with his mistress, the evil villainess, who is trying to kill the Queen. It's a marriage with 3 people. For the first 80%, there is basically no romance.

Story is 1 star. Not my cup of tea, but to be fair, the tags are pretty honest and it was my fault not... more>> reading them, so adding a star there. Translation is excellent and translated to the end, so another star. <<less

I don't know why webnovel marked this novel as completed because they miss several extras. Few of them even contain MC and ML's ending. I tried to find the raw for the remaining chapters but it's so hard to find it. Fortunately, someone posted the remaining chapters in novelupdate forum and satisfied my curiosity. So for the new reader, I suggest to read it after all the extras are fully translated.

Now back to the story.

Well, ML is definitely not my favorite character so far but I don't hate him. I... more>> just wonder, is it okay to have him as an emperor?

Spoiler

Many praises him as a good ruler but in fact, he is mentally unstable and easily influenced by people around him (yes, I talk about you Rosemund). As an emperor, those flaws are unacceptable. No wonder in the 1st timeline, nobles rebelled against him and forcibly took over his throne.

[collapse]

And Rosemund, I don't know what she was thinking. She was clearly given a second chance to do better but she didn't change at all and even had a bigger appetite.

Spoiler

Yes, she is also back to the past after she was executed in the firsr timeline. Instead living a humble life to avoid being executed for the second time, she still resumes her scheme like in the first timeline. Unfortunately, she doesn't know that MC is also a reincanator and she was executed again after losing miserably to MC.

[collapse]

As for MC, I'm really happy that she gets her happy ending. She really deserves it, considering her tragic ending in the first timeline.

Spoiler

She was loved wholeheartedly by ML and she also wasn't actually infertile so she could bear ML's child. ML didn't have to appoint another royal concubine just to get a heir (ML refused of course but MC persuaded him to do so because he needs a heir and she couldn't give him that).

Ah, I skim this story for each chapters. ML behavior was just frustrating and anger inducing. There's certainly not enough groveling from the ML considering he did kill her in the past life!

The amount of yelling and flailing from a wide range of emotions cannot really describe how I truly felt for this series. I mean this in a good way.

The characters are rich with so much history and backstory to delve into. Everyone's grey, some colored darker by the ambitions they hold in their hearts (i.e Patrizia or Rosemond's choice to becoming the queen to protect their goals). The story really makes you side and feel for the main character in her quest as queen, a daughter, and a sister as... more>> well.

What really made me love the story is the character development for everyone, the things that force people to change in the palaces for better or worse, or the people that come into your lives. I say this especially for our ML, Lucio, who I consider tr*sh indeed but you can't help but understand where he's coming from and why he is the way he is (and even to an extent, Rosemond herself).

The only reason I'm putting a 4/5 because I felt near the end things were being resolved too quickly in comparison to how thought out everything was beforehand. Felt like a bit of whiplash but I wonder if the side stories will make up for that later on. <<less

Okay, I think we must agree that in the first half, we all hate the ML. However, there's a reason for it; he has a weakness. I know, still, it's not okay to treat the FL like that, so it's okay to hate him (or it's not?). Please bear the beginning and read at least to chapter 66, I stop for a while in chapter 65, because it's already 5 in the morning ?, it's agonizing. And then I found chapter 66, it turns out I'm only a step away... more>> from salvation ?. This novel has a simple plot base, 1 ML, 1 FL, one annoying thing, as the story roles, as I read (and from the spoilers I get), one by one the truth revealed, it's like peeling onion, there's a reason behind every scheme. I think the author succeeds in developing character and the storyline. It's a dark theme novel with a little romance, not your so happily ever type. I feel so emotional when I put my foot in Patrizia's; she's a tough young lady, with not much help (not like in the other isekai of stories), but she adapts and survives. GO, Patrizia! <<less

Y'all, I am obsessed. I keep up with every chapter as it comes out. The characters all have rich backstories and motivations for their actions! I love! Not just the story, but the translation is amazing! The word choice is awesome and the style flows nicely. If you enjoy main characters being decent people, but still ruthlessly outwitting their opponents, then this is for you!

I loooove the story. FMC is not a mother theressa kind of girl so I really want to know what would she do for revenge. Although it might seem that this (revenge) might slowly eating her like her sister said. But more than ever, I just want to hug her and said everything is alright. I hope she will be happy with whatever choices shes made.

Many said ML is s*upid and I do agree. But he is also traumatic from his past and I do feel sorry for him. But... more>> still, after the pregnancy test, I bet she could never see him like before. I wont if I were the queen. I cant wait for his karma. <<less

A bit of a glimpse at the characters and the premise:

    • The MC, Patrizia, is a clever and sharp-tongued count's daughter who is selected to be the queen.
    • The ML, Lucio, is the Emperor who's hiding a dark secret and burdened by a tragic past.
    • The villainess, Rosemond, is the Emperors' concubine of low birth who wants to climb up the ranks and give birth to the Emperor's child.
The story begins with the public execution of Patrizia's family, the Grosteschers, with a guillotine, which was ordered by Lucio, who was her sister's husband then. But instead of dying, Patrizia gets another shot at life and goes back in time. To avoid a repeat of the horrible events, she volunteers to enter the queen selection in place of her twin sister and ends up being chosen.

Knowing that Rosemond is out to get her, after being crowned, she focuses on her queen duties instead and tries to stay away from Lucio and his concubine as much as possible. As Rosemond continues to scheme against her, Lucio starts to see Rosemond's true colors and falls for Patrizia's honest personality and comforting words, despite her indifference to him.

I'm only giving this 3 stars because although it was a good read, I feel like it was lacking in a couple of aspects.

The MC felt too cold for me at times. I love scheming, b*tchy MCs and I know she's been driven to the point where she has to use any cards she has that can turn the tables in her favor, but some of the tricks she played left a bad taste in my mouth. I also felt like her catfights with Rosemond were written too exaggerated /aggressive. Like they were trying too hard to bring each other down.

As for the ML, he wasn't likable until the end. He's the most spineless and indecisive ML I've encountered so far. He's not a total scumbag or a fool, but he wasn't great either. Even after his redemption arc, he didn't gain any brownie points from me. His romantic gestures near the end were cute, but that was it. The conflicts in the novel were created and resolved by only the MC and the villainess. He pretty much acted like a bystander as the plot unfolded. It was like he only existed as a romantic interest for the two. To sum it up, he felt like a side character to me by how passive he was.

If you're also off by things like the ones mentioned above, then you may want to reconsider reading the novel. Otherwise do give it a try and decide for yourself after reading a couple of chapters. It might be your cup of tea.

Well I completed the main story, but I really wanted to see a side story with Patrizia and Lucio, but guess what, that didn't happen because we only got side stories of literally every other couple (even with Lucio and the s*upid Rosemond girl, even though Rosemond is supposed to be dead, and even though they aren't a couple).

Ugh...

But seriously, props to the translators for the excellent translation. I'm just bummed that it's not being translated by them anymore because the OG K-novel people requested to stop the translation (pretty... more>> sure that's what happened). Actually, the translation wasn't even stopped either, it was just completely taken down, which sucks for new readers who have to go through the whole waiting process again for another translator group to put it up again chapter by chapter. At least I got to read the whole story (even if I didn't read all of the side stories). <<less

If you'll give the ML the benefit of the doubt take into consideration the second chance tag, a sucker for slowburn romance, angsty/tragic redemption arcs followed by a satisfying fluff at the end then this series is an easy 5.

4 if you're picky ❤️

I personally think that the psychological theme must be highlighted too cuz it plays a huge role in the characterization of the ML. And I think that is the reason why a couple of people hates him so much. I think that if you have a clearer... more>> understanding about psychology and trauma then you can bring yourself to sympathize with him more.

I seriously love this series. Try reading it with an open heart. You guys won't regret it <<less

This story is very well written and has a very competent FL. You can read her thoughts process and see her motivations on why she makes the decisions she does, such as choosing not to love the emperor since that was what caused her sister's death previously. Though she can't help but care for him ML gets a lot of flack and its understandable but his back story is f*cking tragic and it's no wonder why he's attached to the antagonist. At least he doesn't outright do anything to the... more>> FL and instead does what he can to help her even if he can't eliminate the antagonist. I can't wait to see how it will end. Also this story has such a good antagonist that makes you hate her so much becaude she's super cunning. Very much not 1D at all. <<less
