I cannot express how frustrated and angry volume 4 made me. I'm sick of it. The girls are all meek and suffering now and I'm enjoying it. I'm ready for the genre to change and turn into some horror revenge drama. There are no positive fluffy feelings left in me. Get the f*ck out of here with your tsundere immature s*xual harassment blackmail shit. I want to see them despair. I want to lay out in detail how b*tchy they are and guilt trip then until all they can do... more>> is cry. I want to kick them while they're down. Can't believe I enjoyed reading this before. I've never read those revenge stories but maybe I'll check it out. <<less

This is a common theme in LN today, but the depiction of the characters and the relationships between the characters are very good. Especially for the explanation of the problem that binds MC and Heroine.

This novel is easy to read, so read it right away

Have you ever read a story in which the FL is short-tempered, constantly misunderstanding and verbally and physically abusing MC, and is so annoying that you get sick of it and think "Man, what's this author's deal? Why did he picked up a tr*sh as main heroine?" If you haven't read one or you haven't had your fill of reading of these type, this novel is definitely for you.

The story is about two arrogant brats who think of each other as mortal enemies and the unique (read: overused) trope of... more>> forced into relationship by family shtick. While the MC is definitely too prideful in Volume 1, he gradually improves and tries to understand and compromise with FL. But the FL is a complete waste.
Don't get me wrong, she has her good qualities too but she is way too deep into misunderstanding, jumping into conclusion and then hitting MC at the drop of the hat trope; a trope that was (never) supposed to be funny and overused in harem anime in the previous decade. To quote a character whose name I can't remember - "Violent Tsundere heroine archetypes aren't in trend anymore". But not only did author refuse to admit it, but also he took it upon himself to make Akane reach a new obnoxious level of violent Tsundere.

Akane is absolutely childish who hates Saito merely because he is ranked above him but that reason is enough for her to see every action of his as villainous and filthy. Every volume begins with her being an unsightly, ugly and venomous person constantly finding faults in him even though he tries to understand her and make his point clear but she refuses to budge and hit him as usual. After repeating it for dozens of time, she would show her dere side at the end of volume which would falsely raise readers hopes that she has improved only for her character improvement counter to reset to zero in the next volume where she again turns into an utter tr*sh. And this cycle goes on EVERY. SINGLE. VOLUME.

Spoiler

And in Volume 4 out of nowhere the author casually drops the bomb that Saito actually has a girl he loved who he met only once when he was a kid. And it is implied that it was Akane though he is unaware about it. Dropping this info when there was no hint of Saito having loved a girl before only convinces me that the author decided to add this only to reduce the hatred Akane gets from readers. But author-san, no matter how good reason you try to come up with in future volumes in portraying why Akane changed so much from her innocent and good personality in childhood to her utter garbage personality now (though I am sure it would be another lame overused trope), it won't change my mind about her as an incorrigible piece of shit.

[collapse]

That said, I will rate it 2/5. There are two reasons I don't give it a 1 star- 1) There is an absolute cinnamon roll, the oasis in this novel going by the name Shise 2) Shise I have soft spot for CClaw Translation group as they are the fastest translation group I have ever come across for some of the novels I read like Gimai Seikatsu. The plot is generic, the characters aren't well fleshed out and the FL makes it painful to read. Read only if you enjoy MC being abused by tr*shy FL. <<less

I have no idea how this is so popular, the poor MC is always the one who is trying to be normal and live happy. The fMC is incredibly annoying and can never be honest, she's always jealous and snaps on him. I don't know how anyone can call this romance at all.

This used to be good, believe me

The premise is simple and easy enough, tsundere is a hood certified classic after all, but somehow the author went and screwed it up

There are 3 mainstays in this novel

A: Despite being a genius, the protagonist always takes literally each and every single word anyone uttered literally.

This isn't a misuse of "literally". One of the most basic exchanges look like this:

MC: How can you eat dinner after eating sweets?

FL1: I have another stomach for sweets

MC: what sort of human have 2 stomachs?

FL1: I'm a cow

MC's thoughts: that'd explain her erratic behavior

One may say "hang on, that's manzai. He's being a tsukkomi". Ah, but dear reader, manzai is supposed to be f*cking funny. This isn't. A proper tsukkomi understands figure of speech, this guy doesn't, which is f*cking exhausting

B: MC is being pushed around

No matter what happens, MC always meekly obeys. One of the heroines will use a figure of speech (for example: "I'll kill you a million times!") and MC will, out of fear, stay in line (thinking "holy shit, she might actually be able to kill me a million times over")

Put simply, it's not fun at all. There are plenty of spineless protagonists out there, but usually it's due to low self-esteem and they can grow out of that

That is not the case with this novel. The MC is a narcissist. He knows he's smart and he regularly uses it to his advantage. He does not think of himself as particularly handsome but this is confirmed by the girls: he's actually not that handsome. In other words, he knows his own worth and does not have a "low self-esteem", yet his body does not even have a slot where a spine can be inserted. It's maddening

C: both main leads being tsundere

Inevitably the main premise of the story rears its head and we get something good. The familial bickering is quite nice, funnily enough, because it's a welcome progress. Their desperate attempts to hide it from their classmates are also fun to read

The biggest problem with this novel is author's insistence on adding harem where there's no need. They jumped the shark at volume 4

Spoiler

This is when they introduced NTR. Heroine's s**tty little sister comes in because obviously one aggressive harem member isn't enough. The entire volume revolves around Maho seducing MC and ruining the married life, only for an unsatisfying twist at the end that doesn't elicit sympathy

[collapse]

It's a sad state of affairs but as they say: every beginning has an end, and for this novel that end is volume 3. That's because past that, with the introduction of more girls and the shift to focus to harem, the exhausting manzai routine gets ever more frequent <<less

Updated review as of v4 epilogue: there is not much change in comparison to the previous volumes. The romance is still not enjoyable and a majority of the content in this volume are, for lack of a better term, "filler jokes". Whenever there is an interesting conversations/scenarios coming up, they are immediately drown by the (supposedly) hilarious/funny/witty responses, mostly from the female characters. Some scenes are so potential and should have been served as critical plot/character development but sadly they are downplayed and forced to be funny.

I reaffirm my point... more>> that this series is good for you if you are into tsundere, and I mean EXTREME tsundere. If not, be prepared for a hate-read because you would feel bad for the guy and even angry towards the FMC Akane. Once again, the MC did nothing wrong but he had to apologize and ask the FMC for forgiveness. Once again, the FMC acts incredibly rude, selfish and childish with little redeeming points. (As of v3 epilogue) The first volume is really good, despite the common tropes forced marriage and cohabitation with a cute classmate, and all the tsundere acts, yada yada. However, the second and third volumes really make me question my interest in this novel. Subjectively speaking, I don't think this is a fun rom-com, or heart-warming, or fluffy romance plot.

First of all, the relationship between the married couple, MC and FMC, is not enjoyable. It was cute to see them fight in the first volume and despite the harsh words, you see a connection between the two of them. However, not much grows or changes after that. The character Akane constantly sh*ts on the MC, Saito for absolutely no reason other than the fact that she hates him. And why? Because he always gets the 1st place in academic ranking while she could not! Again, it sounds cute at first, but it gets irritating fast. She curses him as if it was his fault.

But, it takes me to the second point: some of their behaviors are questionably childish. We have the FMC, Akane, who is 17, but says incredibly childish/naive statements and actually means them, and we have the MC, Saito, who is constantly afraid of his life. Again, when you encounter these within the first volume, it's cute. But the same thing happens over and over again and both characters mean what they say. Example:

Spoiler

"Then, I'll make sure to clean up anything suspicious. Since it'd be bad if Himari walked up to the second floor, I'll put some tape at the stairs to block them off."

"With tape that says KEEP OUT, she'd only be more suspicious, right?"

"Why!? It's a crime scene! The police officers will get angry at you!"

"There's no police officers at my home."

Saito wished she wouldn't just tickle Himari's curiosity with something unnecessary like that.

"Let's set up a trap on the stairs then. Shooting arrows once you set foot on a pressure plate."

"People will die!"

"Nobody will. It'll be small arrows with poisonous tips that will make your body go numb."

"We're not being visited by some thief, it's your best friend, remember?" Saito pointed out, to which Akane's eyes opened in shock.

[collapse]

Maybe this is the author's attempts at humor. But I have trouble finding any of these interactions or dialogues fun. Or maybe, it was fun to Japanese readers, and somehow the English translation does not carry the same humor effects? Or maybe this is just me, and you find it funny yourself?

The MC, despite constantly having a shiver down his spine every time the FMC acts hostile, seems to love such hostility, claiming it to be her "being herself". He indirectly enjoys being dominated, yelled at, basically any forms of verbal abuse. He never gets angry, stands on his ground, or determines to change the relationship to be healthier.

ALTHOUGH there are significant character development, most of them occur in inner-thought form. The narration tells the audience how each character feels, and slowly opens toward each other, but the characters themselves barely revealed it. The MC is kind and decent but the female MC is still hostile, disrespectful and ungrateful toward the MC. It reminds me of Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha in terms of a one-way kindness from MC to FMC, and toxic behavior from FMC to MC. At this point, any other female character is a better match for the MC. <<less

I suppose this novel will be a good read if you are an open minded reader or enjoy reading violent tsundere heroine romcoms.

If you hate female main characters that are at the level of Louise from Zero no Tsukaima and annoying classmates then this probably isn't for you.

I can only say I have doubt on whether could this be classify as rom-com mainly due to how toxic FMC is, this practically the first I doubt even 10 volume of novel is enough to make this FMC likable even for abit ngl, first the author make her abit likable just to end up making her extremely disgusting and toxic af in the end in each volume like constant copy paste. The volume one was fun. Your kind of diabetes inducing LN. As the translator said himself, it is kind of turning to a Harem thingy. But I think it will kind of add some kind of tension and some emotional and cute jealous heroine moments. Thanks for translation of Vol1 and I'll be waiting for Vol2

Don't misunderstand me here, I only rated it 3 because 2.5 stars isn't an option. If you want an entirely, spoiler free review, scroll down to the last part (although trust me, it might just be better to read my review before embarking on this painful read)

Kurasu no Daikiraina Joshi to Kekkon Suru Koto ni Natta" despite its interesting premise and promising first three volumes, fails to live up to its expectations as a romcom. It ended up going for the harem route, despite it being clear from... more>> the very title of the novel that the main heroine would be the one winning. The novel has its moments, and beside the character of Shise and Akane's little sister, who I could never take too seriously, I don't have too much complain about the characters, beside the fact that both the leads are stubborn and dense as hell despite being "extremely smart".

One character that I really wish wasn't caught up in this whole (inevitably losing) battle for the mc's affection is Himari, the fmc's best friend. She is shown to be more than just a supporting character, and arguably volume 6 was more about her and Saito than it was about Akane. Yet, it's obvious that her feelings will remain one-sided, and so I wonder what the purpose even is of the author adding such developments of her with Saito. Why not just let her grow as a person rather than develop even stronger unrequited feelings towards him. It sort of reminds me of what happened in Nisekoi, although that manga was much better than this one at least. If you really just want a harem romcom with the fake-relationship troupe, then honestly just read Nisekoi. It's also quite long, but it has a great ending, and is often quite funny, even despite the harem setting, which is something this novel cannot claim to have.

To summarise, the novel isn't very great of a romcom. While the novel itself isn't too terrible, and in fact the last part of volume 7 actually leaves some hope for the future of the story, many parts of it are still frustrating and painful to read through with very little progress and more conflict if anything. This is the sort of story I would reccomend to people who don't take harem romcoms with multiple heroines too seriously. Cuz if you do end up feeling sympathy for one of the heroines, even the lead, it'll become quite painful. Just read Nisekoi <<less

Sweet slice of life light novel that is worth the read if you want some sweetness, it gets annoying on the first chapter but it gets better and so on. Volume 2 focuses on the relationship of MC and fMC I believe and it made some progress but I feel like that effort got reset the moment they enter epilogue so I dont know how I feel about that other than disappointment. Volume 3 I think it focuses on the side character's love for the MC and the MC trying... more>> to establish a friendly relationship with his wife, it got a huge impact for 2 minute worth of reading but then it vanished like the friendly relationship doesnt exist right after, which is a huge disappointment. Volume 4, oh boy, it somehow focuses on the side character X main character more than the mcXfMC. Its annoying with the new introduced side character, as I havent finished the volume 4 entirely, there is some info I havent brought up.

also keep in mind that im pointing out the "FLAW" of this novel, as you can see its major but its few so its still worth the read. I recommend you trying it out and deal with the flaws on your own. Great volume introduction illustrations and chapter illustrations are top notch as well.

edit: I also would like to tell you that our MC have a few emotion displayed and that is Fear, Calm (?), embarrassed and admiration. And im telling you this because there is one missing emotion that is equally important in everyday life, and that is Anger, never have I ever seen this MC been angry before and if he did, I think personally that he would have solved 60% of his problems in his daily life if he could show this emotion from time to time instead of being sh*t scared for his life.

the same goes for the female lead, she has one missing thing (?) and that is Honesty, sure she cant be honest with herself but please man, its been 4 volumes, when can she show her honesty fully? Not like - - (says something she's honest with)
- what? (Mc)
- nothing! Baka! (Something like that)
like come on man, 100% honest when? <<less

I don't understand why, because I consider his writing quite good, but author totally can't write dialogues, most of the time it's total nonsense far beyond boke-tsukkomi act. He has also irritating manner of switching scenes when something interesting could happen.

MC should have severe PTSD from that constant noise happening around him, getting CEO chair definitively isn't worth this.

--- v5

I must correct myself, author totally can't write. We all know how it will end, so why he's taking route that is avoiding most interesting part of the novel: their... more>> cohabitation and slowly opening to each other? Instead in makes s*upid plots just to avoid main topic and preserve status quo.

Spoiler

I don't understand why them living together is such big problem, their classmates have monkey brains but it's not like they cared about them in any way: MC is rich loner and FMC was conflicted with everybody anyway.

Instead we're back to square one every frickin time and Iam particularly annoyed with volume 4, with female lead's sister's lack of fidelity to her ways of torturing main lead, it goes down the dumps.. So this book is a nice read with good translation although it has issues. But overall if your just looking for a romance book then its a good read since the plot isn't that bad and the translation is good.

Some issues I had with it are...

Spoiler

Its first of all getting annoying that every single female character keeps falling in love with the MC, his sister is in a grey zone but now that the friend and maho (FL sister) have been added its just getting annoying. At this point in the story what I want is the ML and FL coming closer together and falling in love with each other rather than more bs "another heroine has appeared" that the author keeps doing. Then you have things like the aunt being a prick for no reason, seriously no idea why the hell the author added that... They added a loving mother like character to the ML and then made them be an ass to the FL because "My daughter is the most important" but that's complete bs since her daughters was actively pointing out to the FL that she was in love with ml.

Other then that there's the entire maho arc which was kinda a train wreck, the ending slightly made up for it but not really. Now, I will add that this part is probably very biased since I hate maho's personality type but she constantly ignores the ml's personal space, and just overall spoils the book... Although I did finally warm up to her a bit at the ending when she was trying to do everything for her sister since it vaguely works and means were done with her bs but then she ruins it in the epilogue by saying she's in love with ML now... seriously author, f*ck off with the sub-heroines...

I guess the last thing would be the constant s*xual harassment "jokes" in this book. Its ironic since I normally think that the people who write these reviews are too sensitive since its a book (though some graphic books are an exception) but in this book it just gets annoying. Maho (FL sister) constantly threatens the MC by sexually harassing him and then threatening to tell everyone he did it to her, and this happens over and over and over... And the MC never learns to start recording their conversations or anything...

Overall I think the story has a lot of potential for volume 5 as long as the author actually focuses on the ML and FL relationship... though I doubt that will happen... I'm not sure if the author is trying to extend the story or what but volume 4 basically did nothing for the main characters relationship, the ending leaves a lot of room for it in the next volume but if the author continues to make it focus on all the side heroines coming onto male lead then this series will go to shit. Not really related to the book but I really wish authors would stop harems, all they seem to do is destroy character development simply so every single weeb can fantasize which girl they will never get...

The novel overall is great. The whole cast of characters is diverse and easy to get invested into. The MC is great, he doesn't turn into a stuttering blushing mess at the slightest provocation and is actually a man, which is rare in light novels. The banter is most of the time fun to read and of course there are plenty of sweet moments scattered about to give you diabetes. A good blend of romance and comedy. Now for the drawbacks and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars.... more>> This is my opinion, you don't have to agree. Simply put, the heroine is a bit of a b*tch. Scratch that, she's an absolute b*tch. Sure, she has some cute moments here and there and she is very pretty but her personality sucks ass. Sure she is hardworking, compassionate (only to her best friend) and wants to help people but there are a lot more negatives then positives. She's self righteous, proud, s*upid, petty and unpleasant to read to be perfectly honest. By the end of volume 2 instead of the positive vibes I wanted, I only experience negative emotions whenever she's given 'screen time' so to speak. She doesn't acknowledge her mistakes, is downright horrible to the MC and is just a bad human being. It's like she's on a period 24/7, 365 days a year, like how can you remain angry and so prone to mood swings all the time?
Spoiler

Man, the other girl is so much better but for once the MC was s*upid af in thinking the heroine is better.

Currently waiting for the whole release of Vol. 5 translation, but so far I really enjoy reading this novel.

One of the things I like here is the fact that character development of the star couple is done very well despite the anger issues of Akane. I also like the fact that other potential rivals are starting to get m0re screentime as well to make this story interesting. Although I have to admit, I really like Himari more than Akane tbh.

My only problems with this novel would be Akane's personality. Reminds... more>> me of Louise in Familiar of Zero, which is why I like Himari better.

Overall, I'll give this 4/5. <<less
