I like this story very much. First it was typical game growth story at start.

Spoiler

But then at end when truth comes out about world and transmigration of MC. The story becomes of whole another level. I like the way I was trapped in web of different time lines to reach at conclusion

[collapse]

. It is being continued but not updating yet. Hope it can stay good as before.

I really love this story. It is full of twist and turns. Most are foreshadowed expertly. And the conclusion to each foreshadowing is done well. Plus Kumo-Chan is effing adorable.

The story has 3 main arcs.

*Spoilers* After arc 1

1- The Labyrinth Survival/Grinding Arc. Which consist of Kumo-Chan fighting her way through monsters (often stronger or more numerous then herself), and her learning the basics of that world.

2- ... more>>
Spoiler

The Holy Wars and Transcending the System Arc. Here after Kumo escaped The Great Labyrinth gets caught in a holy war. After a rampage against everyone involved, she is attacked by the original demonic spider. Which spurred her into wanting to be stronger. To which she evolved into an Arachne and eventually beyond the system of the world.

[collapse]

3-
Spoiler

The Demon, Human, and Elven War Arc. Once Kumo-Chan reaches a state of godhood she decides to help the "Demon King" Arale aka "her progenitor" aka "the Original Demon Spider" in her efforts to lower the population of the world and hunt the leader of the Elves.

[collapse]

Now for a more in depth explanation.

Spoiler

Kumo-Chan is the MC believed to be a girl reincarnated into a foreign world with heavy RPG elements. After surviving numerous near death experiences in the Great Elro Labyrinth grows into a powerful but lovable monster. Along the way she discovers numerous helpful abilities, including magic, and dividing her mind into separate personalities with each in charge of her different functions (body, calculations, and magic). During this time she meets a armored god speaks to another mysterious god. This will change the course of the very world.

Once free of the Labyrinth, she is mistaken as a servant of the goddess by a small city. After an army starts wiping out her followers and attacked her with powerful magic, she goes into a blind rampage and wipes out both armies. Only afterwards she is nearly killed by her (technically grandmother) progenitor Arale. Who though of her as a glitch or mutant from one of her numerous spider clones. By moving her consciousness into an egg she layer far away Kumo-Chan narrowly survived. She continued to grow and evolved into an Arachne (spider person) and eventually absorbed vast amounts of MA energy she evoked beyond the limits of the system into a goddess.

Upon waking in her new form she is greater by her progenitor Arale. Who ask for help in a plan to save the world. Which has been dying slowly for the last 1000 years. To save it they must pit the demons and humans against each other and lower the amount of life while using the life force of those who died to repair the world. To which Kumo-Chan agrees. And changes her name to Shiiro upon becoming a demon general. Joined by the dragon god, who becomes a fellow general, they lead the demon race to clash with humanity. Meanwhile the Elves are revealed to be a shady race. With a dark history spanning the last 1000 years.

Late into the war we find Shiiro leading the demons on a war path to the elven homeland. A secluded forest guarded by a mighty barrier. It turns out that the elven leader was the cause of the world's decaying. He was formerly a human scientist that lead in the world's bio tech fields. And was the one to discover the world's life force. He learned to convert it into energy as well as channel it into humans and actively evolve them. The result was the planet being s**ked dry and many humans evolving into the long lived elves. The dragons who generally stayed to themselves had enough, and stole the remaining energy and left the planet for dead. The angel Sariel who watched over the humans intervened by becoming the heart of the system. The goddess of the reborn world under the direction of "The Evil Goddess D" (Who spoke to Kumo-Chan in the Labyrinth).

It turns out the leader of the elves also continued destroying the world further. He sacrificed a vast amount of the world's life force in an attack on D. The result was the death of everyone in the classroom where D hid her divinity and played human. Thus she reincarnated all the humans involved plus the tiny spider that lived in the classroom into the other world.

[collapse]

Throughout the earlier chapters there's other reincarnated people who have their stories told in bits and pieces. Which eventually tie into the main story.

Spoiler

Kumo-chan's story starts nearly 9 months before anyone else is born. And later their stories intertwine in the demon, human war.

[collapse]

All in all it is a well thought out story with most of it planned from chapter 1. And Kumo-Chan is a wonderful MC. <<less

I want to write a review but those who rated 5★ mentioned it already. So now I will instead tell you to read this great novel.

I also want to tell you guys to ignore those who rated 3★ and below. Seriously, if they really read the novel then they are completely wrong. Some of them even rated and hated this novel because of problems in translation. I was like, WTF? You are rating the NOVEL here, NOT the TRANSLATION. Well, the translation have been fixed thanks to the multiple translators.... more>> You just have to pick which one you like in the list above. <<less

There are two types of reviews of this light novel those who really liked the first ark but hated what the second ark did and those who loved the second half and honestly if you enjoyed the second half good for you but for I hated it. The first part was fun it created a fun and interesting story with a cool premise that promised and enjoyable expiriance however the second arc completely destroyed that. Not saying you cant shift the tone of your story but it was so badly... more>> executed that I could barely handle it past a couple chapters. All charctisation up to this point in my view got tossed out of the window making the biggest mistake in these kind of story's that power level is a suitable replacement for story and character. Dont get me wrong I was starting to enjoy some of the supporting cast in the second ark but the drastic tone shift that left me completly isolated from the main charcter and lost wandering what exactly I was reading it just made me want to quit the series. Not saying you cant shift tones look at hunter x hunter for example but the tone shifts needs to be subtle and in line with the story presented so far not just im a god now guess I want to kill people done in one chapter. Last rant didn't like the pacing went to fast like the author knew they wanted to write the second part but decided it would be a cool idea to do a tone switch only to realise it was taking to long and decided to quickly get it over with if you ask me they should have split it into two series the first part being a spin off the the latter sections done after the climax of the story so the author could focus on what they actually wanted to write and you didn't split the audience. Personally I think its bad but whatever if you enjoy a boring death crazed main charcter I would suggest reading it. If not then the first part isn't worth the second <<less

Amazing! I haven't read it in a while after reaching all of the then updated chapters, but I intend on picking it up again. It may seem to some people that she is an actual spider that developed human intelligence instead of a human that turned into a spider, but the reason clearly stated in the novel explains all.

I point this out because of a particularly well-liked comment that made this a point in his/her review. The whole grinding arc in the cave exceeds 100 chapters by a lot. Some... more>> readers may enjoy the grinding arc, and others may not - at all. The later arcs include a lot more interaction with other intelligent life (like humans. A must-have). This naturally includes becoming more known in the world and astonishing people (from what I remember). I didn't like the change in her mindset when she reached the max level of that certain skill either, but the reason for that is later shown to be depressing, yet reasonable. Her actions later on after knowing about it are also for the better good.

I suggest you read the novel yourself.

(Note) : I would have heavily preferred to add spoilers inside the spoiler boxes, but no matter what I did it didn't seem to work, even after carefully looking over the Spoilers section of the BB codes and user answers. <<less

I loved this story when it was about the actual MC. She's adorable and fun to read about. Then it gets to the bullsh*t side stories, and it ruined an joy and love I had for this story.

4.5/5 for the parts actually about the MC

1/5 for the annoying side stories.

PS, someone desperately needs to fix the damn chapter index. There's like 4 different translators going, all doing different parts. It's a nightmare to look at.

You know the usual class transfer to another world? This is it, only everyone is scattered and we follow a baby spider! It's a bit annoying in the beginning listening to overly long monologue but once you pass that follows an awesome adventure with humour and interesting side stories. Don't be discouraged because it' on hiatus, there are plenty of chaps and you can even peacefully drop it after ~180 chaps coz MC's personallity changes due to revealing a certain mystery, and there are a lot of senseless power ups... more>> so the story loses it's innocent charm. Though I said you can drop it there, it's still good, say 3/5, also a word about translations, I've read only from Turbo coz his few grammar mistakes are negligible but if you really mind it then blastron has initial retranslations (which I haven't even looked at but I presume they are better). <<less

Honestly its hard to do this novel justice through a simple reveiw. The comedic aspect in this novel is one that fits people like me who like action and strategy but keeps it out of a too "emotionally deep" and "dark" tone.

While on the other hand, the way the characters are portrayed on a larger scale makes it feel closer to an epic. Then when you get closer you see the classic jp novel writing, groan in pain, then finally! You relize...... this dude is just a side character........

Kumo desu... more>> nani ka's main character is the spider, but she herself treats the world around her as a growth envirornment, a journey, as well as a playground at the same time.

Because of this, this novel has a very unique feel to it where, although the MC is the "mc" she's just doing her best to escape the jaws of hell and then goes on to help her new found companion. The MC can even be portrayed as a side character, or an end game boss type of characters throughout the majority of the currently written part (somewhere around 400chapters I guess?)

The ONLY con I can think of from this novel that isnt opinionated, is the complexity of it. There are so many different timelines, PoVs, and backstories outside of the main plot that it is extremely complicated.

Just a little heads up tho, the main story (POV of MC in original timeline) does NOT need support from the different side stories throughout the novel that make it complicated. Everything needed that is seemingly passed or acheived in the side stories is always recapped and portrayed in 1st person through the MCs thoughts once the side stories finished and the spotlight is back to the original story. The side stories are a positive aspect in my opinion, but dont force yourself to include them. <<less

I liked the first part of this novel, it might've been slightly boring but just interesting enough for me to continue. However, the further you get the worse it is.

Spoilers
... more>>
Spoiler

The main character decides to split her personality. This is when the novel starts to go down the drain. The further you get, the less the main character becomes relatable. It gets to such a point where I have no idea what the main characters personality is, goal is, motivations, etc. I finally dropped it when the main character turned into a braindead "god" who will do anything if she is provided food.

[collapse]

Interaction between humans and the main character is nil. The main character has severe social anxiety and doesn't communicate with humans. Of course, once the novel progresses to the point where the main character can converse with humans, their presence in this novel is already quite diminished. I can't help but feel like the main character is a side character, thus providing no "main character" in the story.

Overall, poor novel. Premise was okay, and only gets worse the further you get. <<less

This WN is amazing, I binge-read it all on the course of one month and I am honestly disappointed I didn't read it sooner!

The author really knows how to write with multiple POV's and unreliable narrator, there were so much "Gotcha" moments when all the confusing elements converged on the bigger picture, I can't get enough words to praise it.

A masterpiece.

Alright, My opinion is bias toward Xianxia genre and I read the web-novel version so:

What I like:

    • The MC personality of not really care about anything.
    • Unique concept of Isekai stuff.
    • Very interesting in the beginning.
What I don't like:

    • Too much plot armor.
    • The power system become incomprehensible after
      Spoiler

      The MC reach god level

      [collapse]
They just start to put in anything they want as part of the power system.
    • Poor side character design. It feel that there are less than 30 character in the entire story even though there are a lot of people which are just number.
    • People ideal are pretty basic, a saint to want to save everyone, every important character has they moral point which is like an ideology of a high schooler, wanting peace.
    • The way the story was written in English is really hard to follow, I read lot of novel, but it usually on a third person perspective always, but in this novel, they talk in first person mode, it was ok in the beginning because there is only the MC, but now, it become very confusing, I don't even know who talking, they don't put the MC"...", other"..." on so sometime I don't even know if they are thinking or talking, BTW thinking is '...' and talking is "..." for 99% of Xianxia novel. It very confusing not having those.
It suffer from thing that xianxia done better in novel, but it do give some of the character a personally that is unique, like the vampire girl, an the MC.

The story is a predictable Japanese story type because of the moral value, and expectation of a Japanese person.

I really want to complain a lot because of the suffering I get from reading the story, and since I 80% there, I don't want to drop it.

A lot of hints about the plot are scattered here and there and you probably won't realise it if you're not actively theorising and predicting the plot but even if you do, you may still not notice it until much later. Example:
Spoiler

She actually is a spider, it's hinted early on but it was not revealed until much later.

[collapse]

Finally, it became my favourite Novel after finishing Volume 5. The plot picks up it's pace, everything is slowly revealed. I got hyped. I wanna read more.

Maybe It's that I prefer Novels that slowly builds up until a boom rather than a plot that starts strong but gets boring later on. I prefer the long reads to be honest.

If there's something I dislike about the story is that the fight scene is too long XD and dragging. It actually feels like grinding on a level over and over again but with stronger enemies. There's barely any new information. I think it would suffice to skim through the fight scenes and only read the level up, skills info, and dialogues. It gets interesting later on with the introduction of new and actually talking antagonists.

So my score is 4.8/5 overall.

Volume 1, 2, 3, and 9 is a bit lower tho. In volume 9, there's barely any kumoko although I liked goblin boy but still:< <<less

It's a novel that really gives mixed feelings.. The transition between human to spider is very well done, we don't have much about her time before reincarnating. I personally liked it, it made it easier to have a 3rd person viewpoint and I thought it was good for this kind of story.

The story itself and developement is definitly 5/5 stars, it's a good dungeon exploration novel, and fantasy world one. It has funny moments, some exciting and stressing ones, where you may find yourself cheering for the MC.

Strongly advised for... more>> dungeon exploring readers, game elements and evolution fans. The sc-fi vibe comes late. And mystery leaves few clues too

ABSOLUTLY NOT ADVISED FOR LIGHT READERS!!!! The ' unreliable narrator' tag is very strong! Early is alright but at some point when X happens (won't spoil) it becomes very confusing!!!! <<less

As always, please ignore any grammatical errors I might make in this review.

Spoilers for the latest LN Volume ahead!

Reminder: This is a review of the Light Novel, not the Web Novel. They have a lot of different changes and new addition like characters and backstory.

First of all, let me say that this novel is amazing. One of the best light novel I have ever read, and it even made me buy the latest physical volume, something I rarely do for other online books. I have read the manga as well,... more>> but I say that it pales in comparison to the beauty that is the LN.

There are a lot of different reasons why I like this novel, but let me start with the characters and their development. Kumoko, our adorable spider, is an amazing MC, she has never bored me once and her antics just make me laugh so many times. She is quite a unique protagonist because she doesn't care about the state of the world and would let it burn to ashes if it doesn't endangers her or her friends. For what she does care for though, she will risk her life for them like with Ariel. This make her more realistic, instead of being overly 'evil' or 'good'. And best of all, I find myself relating to her shyness and introversion. She isn't completely a demon according from what I've read so far, but she isn't a saint either. I quite like protagonist like these. And of course, I love it when she contrasts with Shun, the secondary protagonist. Excluding Shun was one of the main reason I felt that the manga is not on par with the LN. Shun is a parody of the isekai protagonist we all come to know and hate. Naive, simple minded, wants to save everybody, etc. And while his character is something I have a bit of disdain for, I love it when the story uses Shun to compare with Kumoko. It makes me feel how great our MC really is. Of course, Ariel, Sophia and Wrath. Our side characters have their own emotion and aren't cardboard either. They've all suffered in their own way and because of that, developed into 3 dimensional character despite all having mental problems of their own. There are a lot of side characters in this novel, but every single one of them is memorable. The naked wizard Ronandt, the arrogant Sophia, the cold hearted villain Potimas. There is just so much and it would take me forever to explain why their character are so amazing. 5/5 for characters. World building is an essential part of any isekai story, mainly because this can decide whether the story itself is any different than that of the usual copy-paste garbage we normally find. And I'm glad to say that this world of Kumo Desu Ga is thoroughly developed. Skills, Systems, MA energy, Scientific Civilization, Potimas, Elves. All of those elements blends together and make this one far and above those normal isekai tr*sh. 5/5. The plot is quite simple though. And while there were a lot of twist and turns on the way, it have been quite straightforward. Not amazing but nothing to laugh at either. 3/5

As you can see, I have nothing but praise for this novel. So why did I decide to rate it a 4/5? It's because of the first 3 volume when Kumoko was stuck inside the dungeon. And while I appreciate her character creation and the world building, it struck me as boring 30% of the time. I find that people think it was the best part of the novel but I disagree. If you are able to patiently read through the first 3 volume, which isn't really that bad, then this novel will be amazing.

If you want a novel that can rivals actual literature instead of simply web novels, then this is definitely for you! And by that, I mean the LN, which is much more refined than the WN and is the official version. <<less

As other-world stories go, this one is great. There are a bunch of negative reviews, mostly based around the Taboo skill or that "Kumoko seems more like a human mind in a spider body than a human who was reincarnated as a spider."

Spoiler

SHE IS! Kumoko isn't the girl in the class that she thinks she is. Kumoko is a spider that was in the classroom that managed to tag along. Said girl is the Administrator D, and gave Kumoko a copy of her human mind for reasons that are entirely in line with her character T_T. She's LITERALLY a spider with a human mind shoved in.

[collapse]

All in all the characters are well done. They all have flaws, Kumoko doesn't even try to hide the fact that she's a flawed narrator, and the enemies are also well made. The fight scenes feel like actual fights, rather than I attack you, you counter with some bullsh*t op move, game over for me style BS that you see in a lot of isekais.

All in all I'd give it a 4.7/5, entertaining story and characters, a little too much "Nai wa!" Just... it begins to grind on you with how much the author uses that phrase. <<less

The first 120~ chapters were really good, 5/5. Kumoko is a cheerful, happy-go-lucky type character. I laughed and smiled a lot watching her overcome all sorts of obstacles in the first 120~ chapters. Side note: read blastron's translation, the others are a bit like reading Google Translate IMO.

After that though the story quality (and translation quality, as blastron stopped translating around c122) rapidly declines. The main character becomes FAR too powerful, and turns into an alcoholic sociopath over the course of the next 100~ chapters. She's still the same person,... more>> she just no longer has any real goals or challenges, and basically just goes around f*cking with people.

Side stories are largely optional in my opinion. They're a bit like reading about a war that happened 50 years ago in a country you've never been to -- interesting, but largely pointless. I can't really say any more without it being a spoiler.

I tried really hard to power through the story, but it just kept getting worse and worse. Do yourself a favor and just read blastron's translation, ignore most of the side stories, and use your imagination to fill in the rest of the story. <<less

I didn't read the 'Past Arc' yet (I temporally jumped over it like what I almost did with the sidestories) but to me the only the protagonist is Shiro even if it is hilarious to see the difference between the another point of view since Shiro is rather emotionless with a human body XD

I'm reading the manga now and I can't stop squealing over how cute she is, I really wish for more novels like this one.

So...

This novel is the story of a simple spider who had to survive in a world where everyone else was stronger than her while thinking she was a human in a body of a spider monster and evolving herself to survive while dealing with the awkwardness of not knowing how to act around humans, it is really complex... and I love every second of it, I have no doubts that I'll read it again and again when I feel nostalgic or then more chapters shows up

A fairly "decent" novel which does something a bit different, although it can get EXTREMELY repetitive and boring at times, especially after the countless chapters of nothing but wandering tunnels doing the same thing. Just reading countless chapters of killing shit, in largely similar ways, and gaining what seems to mostly be inconsequential minor stat/skill boosts got pretty boring after the novelty wore off. And it wore of f*cking quick. Moreover, the humour eventually got stale for me (especially once translation quality tanked when I had to switch from... more>> Blastron). But, still, it was something nice to casually read, as long as you turn off your brain as much as you possibly can. Plus just when you think "WOW, finally the MC might actually do something and get involved in the story" or you think "Nice, finally we can get some actual character interactions between the MC and other characters" it just doesn't end up going anywhere. The MC just decides to continue being alone, killing shit, boringly, as numbers go up in her status screen. At one point she finds the baby reincarnation of one of her former classmates and instead of trying to find out more, talk to them, interact with the humans somehow... I don't know, instead of just doing SOMETHING with it, she just gets up and leaves...

The majority of this novel at chapter 160 is STILL just killing sh*t (only now OUTSIDE), wow I'm OP, eat it, talk about how it tastes, level up mostly meaningless shit, repeat. The sad thing is this could have been actually really good. But it is as if the author is, on purpose, trying to make the story as boring as they can. When opportunities for stuff to actually happen and progress come up the author decides to purposefully turn away from it. Probably for some cheap subverted expectation gag. But that doesn't make a story good. It makes it disappointing and boring.

It might improve later but I'm at chapter 161, if the story does get better then it is too little too late IMO. I will probably continue reading and update later (because I have nothing better to do) but the fact that I'm at chapter 161 and it still feels as if the story hasn't even started is a big turn off. It feels like the author is, deliberately, wasting my time.

Also, one of the biggest shames here is that Blastron dropped this novel. His translation was by far the best and is vastly superior to the Turbo translation. With the horrid turbo translation, I found my enjoyment stunted even further by the sub-par translation and localisation. Perhaps if this was all done by him some more of the humour would have survived through translation and it might have, to some small extent, alleviated the endless tedium. This is something to check out if you're a massive fan of the whole goes to another world reincarnated as a creature trope, especially if you're someone that really doesn't mind sub-par grammar and unnatural sounding sentences (when you go to turbo). If that is the niche you like then this is a decent example of it and you should give it a go. You might enjoy it and it isn't as if I didn't enjoy anything about it. It's just that it wears you down after a while, and my enjoyment eventually began to wane. <<less

-Very Game-like, like very very. You must be very fond of status windows to the point of having a fetish because oh boy/girl/spider, those are so long and big and will repeatedly...! Nvm.

-Relatively short chapters (when Kumo is simply the best).

... more>> -Literary as much "Other Viewpoints" (and without Kumo) as Kumo's Viewpoint (when Kumo is simply the best).

-So many different Side Stories (without Kumo and when Kumo is simply the best).

-Kumo is simply the best.

-To be frank I am not really interested in the villains and how "circumstances" conveniently don't allow for a swift resolve. A problem which literary all works with "Gods" have but welp, there would be no story if for once they were competent but I do not care, for I read this because of Kumo. The story I do not really feel compelling at all, kinda standard "evil" and standard subversion of expectations.

-Too many "details" take away from Kumo

-I want more Kumo <<less
