The novel has all the right parts, but because it's a short story the inconsistencies really stand out. A lot of conveniences happen for the MC, which create plot holes. That said, it's not bad and generally a fun way to spend 10 minutes, so give it a go!

Spoiler
  • The MC says that her filial piety is really a mask, and that she wouldn't bother coming back home to care for her ailing father if the ML wasn't there. That's a bit messed up, IMO?
  • The MC mentions that within a month, her barren territory transformed into a lush thriving market. How would her knowledge of medicine do that? And in a month, no less?
  • The king, at the end, has 32 concubines and somehow all of them are infertile? At least, he apparently dies with no children.
  • The king also supposedly loves the MC, but he never took any action in the several months after she went home? And yet he had the gall to complain about it and put his failed love in the history books?

This was such a cute story, and very well translated! It's a shame that it was so short, but it wrapped up nicely.

Well, that was one heck of a story! Whilst the Otome elements weren't really needed to make this story work, they did add a contrast to the possible outcome had Shiris decided to turn into a villainess. As for the crown prince, we see a ramification for him casting aside the woman that he would concede to have truly loved in the years that would follow.
However, the real power of this story comes in the wonderful dialogue between Shiris and Darius as they were able to confess their feelings... more>> for each other. It was so beautifully delivered, with plenty of emotional punch. It was easy to root for these two characters, making their confession and acceptance that much more gratifying.

In conclusion, this short story, as per the kirileaves translation, is a masterclass in good storytelling. The character development is spot on, world-building excellent and pacing kicks *ss. It works so well that I will likely reread it again soon. <<less

The story is short fluffy, cute and nice. The MC gets a happy ending. Prince got what he deserved and I absolutely love childhood friend Romances. It’s cute. I will love how the MC cares about her father so much, so kind. The translation is good and the characters are sweet except for the prince which you don’t get to see much of.

A five star in my book.

A good read. This is one of those 'reincarnated into an otome game' trope, but it's not that cliche and predictable. It can make you feel something.

if the otome game didn't stray from the original path, Shiris who died from planning to hinder the Prince's and heroine's (Anna) love story and Darius ending up getting revenge for her, this seems to have a bad end with a yandere Darius torturing them for killing her.

but since she "awakened" while the idiot Prince is breaking off the engagement, Darius got the chance to express his feelings sincerely and they got the happy ending they deserved. I do think that the Prince and Anna's ending is satisfying since neither... more>> of them died but they never became happy.

Spoiler

despite having Anna and 32 concubines, Prince Chris didn't even have a single heir. Doesn't this proves that he is the one who has a problem? Anna also has the lowest status in his harem of concubines and he didn't even acknowledge anyone as the Queen. Too bad (for the prince) that once a monarch/noble breaks off an engagement, they can no longer ask that very same person again for marriage.

It was very touching although I think it would have made more sense if the story didn't come from an otome game. A novel or a drama would have been more believable.

Slightly forced fluff, but very nice story nonetheless, supported by a good translation.

The reasons I give it 4 instead of 5 is because it puts the vast majority of the cast in the background forcibly, and it could have benefited from a few phrases to flesh them a bit, and because it would have been better off without the "otome game" setting, delivering the "would have happened" through mediums such as dreams.

On the plus side, the two main characters have way more character development than a whole lot of long... more>> running series out there, and they don't feel as flat.

In any case, very much worth taking a bit of time to read this, but it might make you wonder why a lot of other authors went for long series, when they would have made a much better story by not diluting their concepts (usually fairly interesting) and adding trope-characters just to pad the cast.
(the answer being because both authors and editors earn a lot more through series, and us reader always claim to want more when something is good) <<less

A nice short story with good premise and a proper conclusion.

I feel like the end part regarding the fate of ML and how it was supposed to be a test ruins the plot a bit. Feels like a last ditch effort to take revenge of the scumbag. Nevertheless, still a good read.

I think this is the third time I'm reading this short story lol. I was looking for sweet short stories and this came up. Halfway through I realised I had already read it, not once but twice. The story however was so good I kept on reading haha. This is good but I'll admit, the ending suprised me even on my third read. In a good way :)

I don't know why I'm not getting tired of this kind of story although there are many something similar. Maybe because usually I find something interesting in a few of them.

The story begins with a standard formula where MC got transmigrated to otome game, got engaged with the prince, and suddenly got dumped by that prince because he chose to be with the heroine. She's destined to be a villainess where she's ended up dying after confronting the heroine and the prince. But because now she regains her past memories,... more>> she decides to accept the engagement cancelment without drama and chooses to go back to her home. There, she finds her true love.

Spoiler

I'm a bit puzzled though because it's said the engagement cancelment is only a test for MC from the king to know if she trully loves the prince. But if it's only a test, why in the past the prince killed MC when she refused to dissolve the engagement for the heroine?

The angst is not overwhelmingly bawling. In fact its tolerable and enough to touch your heart.
Spoiler

The additional spoilers of their future in the ending is one of the icing in the cake.

Over all a good one shot. Its as satisfying as perhaps reading an expanded one, but not to reach 50+ chapters.

Short yet it hit all good marks for me - the plot and how the author and translator delivered it deserves a five star. This novel shows that there is more in every happy endings in those so called storybooks that we readers didnt know of and it also shows reality like the so called villainess isn't that bad and that there are people who actually loves her and willing to do any lenghts for her - breaking the every clichè. I'm weak to these kind of novels >3<

I loved every moment of it.

This was so well written and moving ?

And this confession scene was so beautiful !!! ? I don't think the otome game setting is adding anything to the story, but it was still very sarisfactory and not lacking in any ways!

Unlike other jp novel this is actually well written. Nothing ground breaking and somehow feel similar to chinese construction of the story. Maybe because of the general since most ML in cn novels are generals.

Loved it!

This one is definitely in my favorites.

I liked how MC was doing everything for her home and how she cares about the people in her territory but also did the things for herself.

... more>> Her love story was so sweet too.

But let's talk about the work itself. In my opinion, the characters are really likeable. MC is determined and her insecurities are understandable. The Childhood Friend is a joking person and made me feel at easy, he also have determination (fu fu). I liked how the people cared about MC and how her father treasures her too...

Spoiler

loved her father a lot more when I discovered he was helping ML get married with MC ? so sweet

I think this one is good from the start to the end.

Spoiler

In the end the autor tell us what happened with our beloved couple and the s*upid prince too. That made me very satisfied

It's a great story and I recommend for everyone that's looking for something short, cute and well made.

Pretty good story, but the Otome game part to it was, as you'd expect, irrelevant. Romance was kinda rushed but that's how it's gotta be done with one chapter. I honestly liked their friendship more.

I know it's a short story, but there's mostly just conversation instead is descriptions (although it happens)

Read it you're into the genre and don't have a lot of time.
