A comedic spin on the transported to a fantasy world and getting a harem of girl trope that is so prevalent in Japanese novels. Instead of getting a harem of perfect girls he gets a harem of bargain bin beauties who are messed up in various ways, and must defeat the demon king with them. Surprisingly the harem aspect is pretty good, all the girls are interesting and unique. If you want to read it just for the harem aspect this will probably be the best harem novel you will... more>> have read. None of that generic tsundere crap everyone loves so much.

The story doesn't take itself seriously and therein lies it's charm.
Its an extremely funny ln. And along the way subverts the tropes of usual Japanese ln.
A great comedy and a fun read.

Template of this LN:

MC does something amazing, bad outcome comes because of his “luck”.

That’s all that will happen to this LN. I enjoyed it when it happened to the first volume but if you keep on repeating that again and again it will start to get into your nerves.

Great story with normal MC (except his brain), useless goddess, oneshot magician, and Crusader with no demage

Spoiler

despite that this was good another world comedy, sadly MC only really serious (all out) in volume 5

if you ask what scene is my favorite, its was when MC steal the Bride in volume 7

If you bored with isekai OP MC story, then I recommend this one for you. The MC don’t have any cheat (well technically he bring the goddess as his cheat, but rather than a cheat it’s more like a drag) but he make do with his brain (and a lot of dirty trick and his luck). The story does feel a little bit like a harem but since the MC only feel them as a drag he don’t feel like having a harem.

This story is a lighthearted comedy series so... more>> don’t expect a drama or character development. <<less

First, don't take it too serious. It's a comedy-shounnen-novel.

A nice MC, amazing side characters, a lot of focus developing every single important character.

Extremely funny, the story flows at a nice pace, funny as f**k, the growth in the characters personality is noticeable in every single volume, and funny to the point of making you laugh loudly.

i really liked alot the first 4 volumes, they are amazing as well, but I must admit that volume 5+ the story got even better, and in my opinion, with every new volume the novel... more>> gets better and better.

Its for sure one of my favorite novels/book/story of all, and I really love every main character in the series, to be fair I think some of them are actually in my top 5 best characters.

And the most important thing to say: megumin best waifu ever. Peace.

Just a side note I like to make. I now it's annoying to say this, but if you like the series, try to buy it even if you have already read the previous volumes, buy the licensed versions, to support both the company that brings these contents here, as well to support the author. <<less

Just 2 things:

first of all.

DO NOT COMPARE this novel to serious novels like Mushoku Tensei and the like (the guy above who compared this to MT srly irked me) since this novel focuses more on the comedy part of its genre rather than its adventure genre. Yes, they might have adventures every now and then but the adventure that they have will probably lead to some comedic scene rather than something serious.

Second, you will probably like this novel if you have a thing for light hearted stories since there will... more>> seriously be no serious event to escalate in the future that they will have an extra hard time dealing with. <<less

I mean the harem but total sexless "made literally for anime" environment is a bad cliche, and then you know every time the party saves the day that it is just going to lead to something bad. It is ok for a joke, but that is exactly what it is - just OK, not good.

By volume 4-5 the "harem" members are just constantly treating him terribly. He may be a bland loser MC, but that is really a lazy "joke". Honestly this would be a much cuter and smoother read... more>> if the man MC was left out altogether. <<less

This one is pretty funny. Nothing ever goes as expected. The MC dies and meets a Goddess. The goddess tells him to go fight the demon king and that he can choose any one "cheat" item to bring with him. MC chooses the Goddess. That's where it all goes wrong. The MC's comrades keep getting him into hilarious trouble. His outstanding luck gets negated but the foolishness and bad luck of his comrades. There's also an anime for this novel, if you liked that, read this too. I recommend reading... more>> this for the laughs. <<less

This is just for shit's and giggles. Even when things start to feel serious, it just ends up with them fighting with each other like children.

There is a plot, although it is very slow, so you should instead view this as a slice of life; and is almost episodic.

This is hilarious and I love the characters, hence the five-stars, but by no means is this novel worth five-stars. It's just that all the bad is completely outweighed by the good; I'm also biased, so I gave it a good rating... more>> because I like it so much.

So in short: No serious drama, it's funny as hell, characters are ridiculous, the plot is slow, and it has good world building. If you just want a fast-paced slapstick comedy with shounen like tendencies, you will love this. <<less

This novel is a special one. Rather, it's pretty much tasty tr*sh, as long as it lasts, but after a while you'll start feeling queasy from reading too much junk.

I really enjoyed the anime and I've quite enjoyed the novel, at least for the first several volumes. The only, and I mean ONLY, charm point of this novel is that it's a nonsense type gag comedy with nothing serious going on, everyone just acts like morons 24/7 and that's what we're supposed to find funny. And it IS funny, at... more>> least to start with. Aqua, megumin, darkness and kazuma makes for a misfit team of losers that screw eachother and everyone else over. Nothing ever goes as they want it to and life hits them in the balls all the time. It also turns the turtle that is isekai novel common sense on its back and beats it with a stick as if to ridicule clichés by making things as s*upid as possible. Things are often the reverse of what is considered "normal" and the author tries hard to make dumbfounding things happen.
Spoiler

Hunting monsters? Nah, why not hunt cabbages instead? Female knights assaulted by male orcs? Nah, why not female orcs assaulting male adventurers? An OP magician that knows endless spells? Nah, why not a one-hit expendable mage? A holy crusader defending everyone with her sword and shield? Nah, why not a muscle woman masochist that can't do anything but be hit? A serene, powerful and holy goddess that helps the hero? Nah, why not a ret*rded (literally), drunkard and irresponsible goddess no one likes and that acts like a spoiled kid? A hero that does his best to survive and get stronger? Nah, why not a worthless dude with no potential who was a neet and tries to stay a neet in the new world, who takes every opportunity to act like human tr*sh? You know, that kind of thing, that's the type of comedy you can expect here.

[collapse]

His misadventures feel amusing and the cast is decent enough to feel entertaining. If it had kept this quality all the way through, it would've been a 4/5 or perhaps even 5/5 depending on what I rate it by. The disappointment here is that it doesn't. The author fails at several things which are extremely important in order to keep a novel good all the way through. For example, he doesn't update his gags, he's re-using the same gag without any notable change dozens of times over. At the end of the day, it makes the entire novel look stale and boring after a while, the characters all feel stagnant despite his attempts to develop them, they display zero learning ability and keep on committing the same mistakes over and over. It's also never funny to see the exact same development several times over. If he had kept it at 6 to 8 volumes, it would've been fine, but things TRULY start to get boring when the same thing and punchline keeps on happening. It's simply not amusing anymore, it has stopped being funny and started to become annoying instead, even occasionally pissing me off. Imagine some moron in your office telling you the same joke every day, only changing the names or scene of the event, like instead of a normal park, they're at a car park and instead of johnny and anna they're named william and sophia, but the actual joke stays the same, it might've been the most hilarious joke ever that made you genuflect in laughter but wouldn't it just be a matter of time before you'd feel like opening the window, grabbing the guy and throwing him out of a high-rise building because he's so damn annoying? It's the same thing here. Changing things up is needed, otherwise it'll grow boring or plain annoying, but sadly the changes in this particular novel are minimal at best.

Also, around volume 5, romance starts to develop, which becomes more and more prominent, at volume 9 the romance starts to become more intense and I'd say that's the place, or perhaps volume 8, where this becomes bad enough that it's not worth the effort anymore and should just be dropped. This author, quite plainly, isn't good at romance. I've seen issues like this far too many times to count. The girl who starts to take the "lead" heroine (kinda) place changes a lot and that in turn ruins most of the comedy. Too much emphasis is placed on jealousy and romance. For a novel that only has gag comedy as its redeeming feature, this is quite a fatal change. Things are made worse because the author can't seem to decide if it should be harem or not, kazuma is ridiculously indecisive and won't decide anything properly and the author keeps on force-developing multiple routes at once without making the mc's preferences clear, does he want a harem or not? This in turn leads to even more jealousy and s*upid scenes that just can't be seen as funny or even interesting. It's like a subpar love drama at some points. So, not only do we have gags that haven't changed much or at all since chapter one and has been abused to the point of being annoying at times, we also have romance that gets in the way of the only charm point this novel had.
Spoiler

Also, I'm not sure about you, but I'm honestly quite peeved with a novel that has a main character so utterly incapable of taking the initiative that he can't approach girls actively, he doesn't know his own preferences, he doesn't chase any of the girls and feels nothing much for them before they actively pursue him and even when they try to push him down, he'll worm his way out of it no matter how much they try to push him, making s*upid excuses not to take the next step even though he wants to. This romance isn't about the MC falling in love with someone and deciding to pursue them, this is about the MC somehow falling for any girl that tries to push him down or tells him they love him. He literally falls in love, if we can call it that, with a girl AFTER they pretty much confess to him and who it is doesn't matter, it's way too pathetic. He has girls he likes, like eris who he said is his ideal girl, but he doesn't try to pursue anyone himself, he just passively lets himself enter into a relationship because a girl wanted him to. That's part of why this is so infuriating, can't he at the very least decide who he likes and if he wants just one or if he wants many? But with his wishy-washy attitude, he'll give in to anyone and everyone although he also shows signs of wanting to just be with one girl, yet soon after he declares to himself something that completely contradicts that statement. This crap makes the novel that had already started to become boring and stale because the gags were re-used too much into a novel that just becomes frustrating to read because the romance can be taken too seriously and it gets in the way of actually funny scenes. Honestly, this novel would only work with a harem if it wants to keep itself as humorous, but it seems the author might be aiming for something else and the effects started showing for real around volume 9, the jealousy and romantic squabbles are very cringeworthy to read

[collapse]

My tip, watch the anime, it brings this novel to life and incorporates the best moments of the novel, it's a whole level or three above the novel format because the expressions and voices are just needed to make this truly hilarious. The novel feels rather stale in comparison, while still amusing it lacks energy and high pace. Rather than rapid firing jokes and hitting true every now and then, we have to read through lots of garbage text that isn't interesting nor funny and have too much time to think about the actual plot and characters, which makes one hate them more and more the more time you spend reading.

If you absolutely feel like reading the novel I recommend going for fan translations, they're actually way better compared to the official release. Tried the official first but the sentences and general flow was very awkward destroyed the whole experience way too much.

I personally had to drop it at a certain point, already around volume 9 did I have thoughts of doing so but kept on going in the hope that things would work out better than expected, but it didn't. <<less

Good series with a lot of comedy. Unique characters appear and more, but things turn out towards the harem route in the end (good or bad depending on how you like your story). Plot twists occur in almost every corner of the series that will keep you questioning what just happened.

MC is smart, not all to strong, but his partners are fun to enjoy

Kazuma who entered on Megumin's route now entered on Darkness's route without knowing ?! Relation progress but there is no romance? Or there is?! We don't know anymore!

A chuunibyou mage named Megumin (lol) who likes Explosions and lives to show off explosions. A goddess who's INT won't increase (meaning her brain cell won't multiply) no matter how much she levels as she is a priest who's EQ is lower than that of an idiots. Aqua (lol) is her name. A masochist crusader who enjoys being punished and insulted who's name is known as Darkness (lol) And here, we have the MC being sane and smart; doing whatever he can to survive in this fantasy world where trouble... more>> always comes to him because of his 3 female members. I have never read an Isekai that made me laugh as hard as this one did.

And I've been binge reading a lot of Isekai over the last five years.

KonoSuba is created as a big subversion of the Isekai-genre. It's a world that is seemingly normal compared to other Isekai but that's where you and the MC quickly discover that its anything but. It feels like the entire world is made just to spite the tropes and all that goes with it, though later volumes do focus less on them and... more>> simply move on with worldbuilding. And boy, what a crazy world it is shaping to be. <<less

Hmm how should I go about this I have a mix feeling regarding this series. On one hand the unique personality and ability of the characters is refreshing but on the other after so many death struggle I expect the characters to at least change a little but two of them don't.
Spoiler

When the MC dies he chooses reincarnation and is gifted with an ability or an artifact. Due to the goddess' haughty attitude he chooses her instead thus our problems began. The goddess is that of an op arch priest with terrible luck and acts like a spoiled 10 yrold. (Of all the character in the story she's the one I dislike most.) The only way she can return to heaven is to defeat the demon king with the protagonist. (Also the MC can return to his world after defeating the demon king). At first I'm find with her but she still doesnt change after 6 volumes gets on your nerves a little. I don't mind he's getting dragged into problems but the author could do a better job initiating the conflict.

Great Read. Just don't bother listening to the vocal minority. (Just look at the rating/review ratio)

They are probably expecting something else from this novel (maybe they think they know a better protagonist). Thankfully Kazuma wouldn't have it.

This has great and memorable characters, good comedy, action, romance and some bits of drama the author manage to pull out at crucial areas, keeping the excitement at the right moments. Honestly, it's the type of novel you'd just want to continue on (forever) because of how lovable the characters are and their... more>> interactions are always fun.

Of course, such a daily life cycle wouldn't fit on some readers as they are probably expecting something else. Well, this isn't your fantasy self insert make yourself feel cool novel. It's a story about a lazy, indecisive self aware neet, with crazy good luck (attached with a crazy bad luck), creative enough to overcome adversities thrown at him either through said luck or some modern knowledge and a bit of skill (trickery) because he failed to get a cheat and instead a useless (not really) goddess of party tricks (water/holy/resurrection), and his interaction with her and the residents of that other world with enough characterization they are probably going to be another cliché or overused by future authors.

It's better to read this light heartedly, perhaps that is why it is categorized as light novel comedy. Don't expect story heavy elements and just follow the antics of the main characters.

Spoiler

As for Aqua, despite her capping her intelligence as the story told us-which gave their party plenty of trouble throughout the entire story, has major but subtle character expositions nearing the end of the novel. Although subtle, you can tell her hidden emotions. Thank fully, Kazuma, being with her long enough to understand.

The kind of story that draw you in from volume 1.

The other have said a lot about how funny and unique it is, so I will talk about something else:

The Harem. There is basically no Harem. By Vol 9 Kazuma is basically lock in Megumin route and the other two acknowledge it. And it keep that way toward the end. That why I like this story so much. Even at the end the other is at best hint at something compare to Megumin one-step-before-marriage.

Did he get confess to by Darkness?... more>> Yes, but he turn it down (He welcome her s*xual assault tho). Did Megumin the main girl give consent to Darkness? Yes, but Kazuma still not go on the Harem path. <<less
