The Hero’s party was attacked by a large group of powerful devils. The party will no doubt be annihilated if this were to go on. One member of the party, the strongest mage, Rakku, decided to stop the enemies in their tracks.

「Leave it to me here and go!」

「But……」

「Hey, I’ll catch up immediately, alright?」

Rakku mindlessly defeated the enemies, over and over again. Using his special skill, Learning, Rakku learned the devils’ magic. As he studied and utilised the devils’ abilities such as Drain Touch, he continued fighting, without rest nor sleep. The devils got stronger and stronger, but Rakku grew rapidly as well.

Rakku battled for 10 years, until no devils came at him. Rakku returned to the capital, and was surprised to discover that his own name had become the currency, and a gigantic statue of him, albeit fairly beautified, was made.

Due to him relentlessly absorbing the vitality of the devils, he had become young again. An appearance unfitting of his age. Godly abilities.

「I stand out too much」

Rakku concealed his true identity, and decided to pretend being a novice adventurer by disguising himself as a F-rank warrior despite being an S-rank mage. His adventure in this now peaceful (?) world starts now!

Generic by the book story of a Japanese beta MC who is actually an overpowered old man, but acts like a hesitant bland harem teen. I've read nine chapters, but this is one of the few times I am sure the rest of the story will be sh*t just from that. Its just disappointing to see such a generic bland uncreative main character especially if you give him a background of surviving constant battles for ten years. I'm pretty sure anyone, no matter how overpowered, would act remotely like a... more>> grown man after experiencing that besides the fact the MC is forty years old.
So now you get to experience the unique story of a overpowered humble featureless MC who pretends to be weak and then constantly surprises a cast of cardboard cutout side characters who exist to worship the MC, with his opness, his bland kindness, and his wealth. I've never seen this before!!! <<less

If you're a fan of a story with some action and development of any sort and NOT a chicken watching simulator then this is not for you.

It's really bland and incredibly boring. No action, no character development, no fleshed out side characters, nothing.

A good summary of this entire story so far would be, "I'm back!" "Let's eat" "I'll help!" "Cluck-cluck!" "Grouf!" "Wow, you're amazing!"

I can't believe I actually read so many pointless chapters....

The writing style is weak, the story is uninteresting.

If I had to put in one way it feels like eating unseasoned food. The story feels very bland because there's no effort to stimulate the imagination of the reader, things are described in one short sentence when the author could have used a paragraph, you read the chapters but it feels inexpressive, without color or flair, it's like it's written by a robot (also, everything seems very simple so far).

I only read 9 chapters so I can't tell much about the... more>> development of the characters, but so far I'm not very interested in any character. I got drawn to this story because I thought the premise was interesting, it was impossible for me to not think about Gandalf's "level up" in the Lord of the Rings, but I have to say that I got disappointed. I expected the MC to be more interesting because of what he went through, but that thing about being left behind for 10 years doesn't add anything interesting to the story, so far this MC doesn't seem any different than the generic transported to another world strong MC (even though he is from that world).

I know it's very early to rate this novel, but I'm somewhat confident that this novel won't turn into something amazing after 50 chapters, it might be readable, but I don't think it will be something that will bring joy to many. <<less

This story reads a lot like someone who got MAX level in a game, then decided to restart the game despite being MAX level just because they liked the game so much and wanted to play again. In this case, it feels like Rakku's decided to be an adventurer again because he likes being an adventurer. It's a pretty relaxing read in that sense, because Rakku's not annoyingly arrogant (like most JP MCs), his friends are nice (bromance is strong, his hero friends cried over him), and Rakku's not out... more>> to do anything more important than having fun adventuring as a normal person.

Giving this 4 stars only because I'm picky about what I rate 5 stars. <<less

It feels lackluster. The MC came back and his comrade reacted like he just went to the toilet for awhile and only started to cry afterward but then, they turn back to normal as if he had never disappeared. There's no built up nor momentum, making the scene bland and boring.

The novel is not bad, but it is not good either. It is bland. The synopsis is interesting, but the writing lacks details which is a problem. Everything is brief like a summary, which causes the problem I will explain in detail below.

The author does not bother describing the environment, so you have no idea how you should envision the city/town/village. There's no way to absorb yourself into the world the novel is set it.

Battles are written like a summary, thus there's no detail of tension or build up. So... more>> it is boring to read.

I can't say much about the politics in the novel, since I have not read too far into the novel yet, however the novel impression doesn't seem to go into that route and would rather avoid that route unfortunately.

The conversation is another issue lacking in the novel. Too brief and no conflict at all. For example, the author could write the dialog between the guild receptions and MC when the guild receptionist is trying to persaude the MC to not go on the adventure alone. Instead, it is written off as a summary of the event that took place.

What is left is basically a bland slice-of-life. <<less

This one surprised me. I had tried reading it before when the number of chapters was short, but then dropped it due to how dull it felt to me, so I dropped it. Recently I tried reading it again and found it gets better once you push through a dozen of chapters. I perfectly understand that even then it is not that good, but compared to many other novels it aint bad either. I think it's current rating is a bit unfair, so I'm giving it 5 stars, even though... more>> my honest rating is 4.

Plot-wise I was getting a lot of vibes similar to Shukkaku Mon novel, but better in all regards except the humour. Also a powerful hero that made a comeback, also recurring enemies that make you wonder why didn't they destroy humanity in hero's absense (but not that absurd like in Shukkaku Mon), also surrounded by action girls but no romantic feelings to speak of, other small similarities. But compared to Shukkaku Mon fights feel much more thrilling, if for Shukkaku Mon it took 200 chapters to reach a challenging enemy then here it happens much faster.

I'll be adding Shukkaku Mon as the recommended novel simply to denote a similarity, couldn't really recommend it. Current recommendations are bullsh*t anyway. Two shoujo novels, are you serious? <<less

Tried reading this since I was a bit bored..... the concept is.... kinda okay maybe? Tho there are a lot of things like:

Spoiler

-apparently they're a 4 man party but one of em, the healer got pregnant with the leader of the party.... and then w/o a healer they charged to demon lord base? Are they f*cking serious? The only end I could see is them dying cuz there is no one to heal their injuries and give support, etc. Yet they somehow did it.... and pushed the demon lord back wtf.... and way to go leader of the party, the great "hero"..... maybe he don't want his woman to be in danger... but in exchange he put his other party member in greater danger.... sigh....

-the MC fought in demonsional space for over 10 years.... w/o eating or sleeping or f*cking rest..... he should've died out of exhaustion, physically or mentaly..... yet he's f*cking alive.... and sane to boot.... author throw drain touch to explain how he's still alive and said our MC using marrionette magic on himself while he's sleeping...... seriously author? He's a f*cking human not a machine.....

-the reunion scene with his old comrade is God level awful..... taking into consideration they're true comrades, friends and companions..... and considering what our MC did for them and all things that happened..... the warrior guild master should've rushed and hugged him while crying his eyes out and bawling as soon as he saw him right outside of the guild building..... sure he's aged, sure he got his position to think about, or other things, but if I were in his shoes all of it would fly out of my head when I saw him.... same goes for the now king party member......

-lack of detailed writing is also a problem..... it felt too simple and bland..... honestly I can't feel the emotion in this story.....

[collapse]

There are other things that I would like to point out about this novel, but writing all of em is a hassle...... 1/5...... that 1 is actualy for the only thing I found unique in this novel.... the "chicken" <<less

ok, as far I read through the chapters, it seems that this story becoming more downwards instead of forwards. In other words, it is lack of motivation. Not sure if the problem lies on the story or the author. I mean some how, the story were not focusing the "Main Quest" instead it focuses on the "Side Quest".

Let's say : the Main story was focusing on "Defeating the Demon Lord" was over and now " I have spent the 10 years of my life finishing the Main Quest, It is... more>> now to be relax and beat the Side Quest while enjoying vacation".

Addittonally, the bad thing about this novel: MC Old best friends were telling him to rely on them if He goes into dangerous places. And what does MC do ?..... Solo Mission. There are times where MC old best friends presence needed, the MC still goes solo again. It irritates me to the point of lowering my motivation to read further.

I gave his novel 2 star.

as a reader, the motivation to read each chapter becoming less and lesser as the chapter progresses. is it recommended or worth it ? well.. depends on each own evaluation. <<less

This will be my first time writing a review here~

This web novel is really unique, for me

Also, it's only 4 chaps for now since the actual source have only 4 chaps. (It seems like it's a new web novel)

As for how why it is unique I'll list it down here

Spoiler
    • The main character actually live through out 10 years without dying. He only relied on his skill "Magic Learning" to survive, to the point that it regressed his body age. (Which is not actually mentioned)
    • Well, the flow "after final battle" story is usually used in some novels, I guessing that it might end up like Death March, but the MC is restarting to zero after he came back from the dimension gap.
[collapse]

*I might change or add my thoughts for this novel after some chapter updates.*

This is a "slow" story about the guy who is OP and without all the bullsh*t forced harem story. It is purely fantasy story with a little bit of action, a little bit of demons and evil gods and vampires and cute pets.

Here is the breakdown of how this novel (without spoilers)

Backstory: 4/5 - Has a nice premise, MC had valid reason to be OP (kind of).

... more>> Action: 3/5 - Don't expect there to be any decent action.

Characters: 4/5 - All characters are properly introduced and are there for a reason and unlike other side-characters in novel about OP MC, they don't go "kya-kya he so strong", instead are equally helpful and hardworking.

Story: 3.5/5 - After few chapters, the story is slow and revolves around OP MC who just want to spend his days. He doesn't have any goals and just helps his friends in his "free" time.
Spoiler

Half of the story is "grrr", "cluck" after 10-15 chapters, so that might get annoying for some people.

[collapse]

Translation: 6/5 - The only reason to consider reading this series is how frequent translator updates this series as well as quality of the translation. Translator doesn't put annoying TL/N after each paragraph like many other do and translation is clean, and looks professional.

Who is this series for? If you want a slow and refreshing story of adventure about a guy in fantasy world that isn't a forced harem isekai, this is for you. Just don't expect any "romance" or "crazy bad guy" or "action". <<less

I'm liking it so far. I often stay away from stories where op mc's hide their strength to live peacefully but that's because it's usually an isekai story where the MC jumps in with cheat powers solely for the sake of noone being able to mess with him as he goes around gathering 1-dimenssional harem tropes and doing nothing but cooking all the damn time. In this story the MC is an original inhabitant that returned after gaining strength while fighting off the devil king's army solo for all those... more>> years. Although he decides to hide his identity he still decides to go out and do some adventuring instead of just lazing around and doing nothing while constantly falling into forces events just for the sake of story progression. <<less

If you like to read a novel from the beginning to the update like me, this is a good novel. But I rated poorly because it seems that the author doesn't know how to control the flow of the narrative and flow of time, sometimes it takes like 10 chapters to narrate the novel from "yesterday to today" with meaningless stuff only. You must shut down your brain to skip the filling that the author does, it should be from 15% to 20% of the novel talking about barking... more>> dogs, clucking chickens, fondling pets, how the demi-human were waving their tails, eating snacks, drinking tea and ale, washing dishes. Don't waste your time reading those parts, skip it.

Sometimes they are like in such a hurry to save the world then the narrative gets so slow-paced that you forget why they were in such a hurry, idk if this could be listed as slice of life and easy going.

Translator-san does quite the good job 10/10 <<less

The novels good and all but there is one fault.
Spoiler

Identity. Perhaps its because the Japanese are too aware of the social positions. Its good in real life but in novel it just doesn't work. Even as a excuse its full of holes. I get it that MC would get troubles from political parties but, thats just a pain nothing else. Cause he is alone and a bit too OP. Not to mention no one knows how long he might live. So it sould have been perfect if the was more solid. Well, its only my opinion though

[collapse]

Still its good. Though am very interested in the following plot after the devils.

A great novel to read if you're bored at school/home. It is not a level where you have to read it seriously like goblin slayer. If you skim through and read it you could probably enjoy it.

Anyways im giving it a 4 and I think this novel deserves that.

A typical generic Light Novel. It's not that good but it's not really bad either.

The author surely have a good concept about the story but the author lack the ability to elaborate the details of the story. It feels like a Light Novel from a very newbie author.

From this point (c11), most of isekai story eater know what the story goes on. A generic story of op MC with care free life. What difference this story from other isekai just this guys back from fighting in 10 years than got summoned to another world. Other that, idk what difference MC guys with some op naive - immature MC in isekai story.

Honestly, translation are good and aside from MC the world building are okay. Author probably try his best, but failed to do different things from other story.... more>> Like, im not even got a bit goosebump while MC reveal his real power front of potential heroine since its like he just does that in purpose from my perspective.

Well I'm gonna edit this review later if story gonna get good. <<less

Ch. 14 The first 5 chapters are throwaway chapters. They establish the setting, history, and get the story to where he REALLY wants to start. They're so bare bones, it's more like a summary.

After that, it's only just starting really. It seems solid at least.

Ch 33 This story has become s*upid...

Several times in the past 190 chapters I thought "eh, I don't really enjoy this, I might just drop it", and then reconsidered. This was the last time.

To be fair, it's not like I hate it. I just don't enjoy it. It's just... okay. The review comparing it to unseasoned food is very accurate. Whether 9 chapters in or 190, it's pretty similar. I thought maybe the MC would be amusingly overpowered and you'd get fun reaction moments but... no. Basically, the MC is regularly overpowered; enough that he is... more>> never in danger but the author will be able to pretend that the next thing is a threat. The other people react with "oh that was pretty cool."

It all leads to a low tension, humorless, bland slice of life like novel that still pretends to have plot. <<less

Well, what can I say it's ur generic JP OP MC novel, it's a slice of life more than action or adventure, there was a lot to of potential in the fight scenes but the author didn't fall through.

On another note, tld is great and steady, well edited as well, if u want to pass the time b/w ur main novels this is quite well choice

It gets 3 ? Mostly because of tl's work and punctuality
