“You’re just like a background character in a rom-com.”

One day, out of nowhere, someone said that to Kohinata Seiya. It was in that moment that he realized he was right. He had always seen himself as just another extra in the story.

But he didn’t want that anymore. No matter what, he wanted to be the protagonist.

With that resolve, he dedicated himself to change. A year later, on the day he entered high school, he happened to step in and prevent a fateful collision at a street corner—saving a delicate, almost ethereal beauty named Mizusumi Akari and a calm, gentle boy named Kanzaki Yuuri.

Seiya had no idea. He didn’t know that his world truly had rom-com elements woven into it, nor did he realize that the two people he just saved were the main heroine and the original protagonist of that story.

Unaware of everything, Seiya grew closer to Akari and Yuuri, becoming someone they confided in. He listened to their worries, offered his help, and before he knew it, Akari grew deeply attached to him. Without even realizing it, he ended up saving the so-called “losing heroine” of the original story. Even the reincarnators who were supposed to take over as the new protagonists found themselves sidelined as Seiya naturally became an irreplaceable presence to the heroines.

This is the story of a boy who, after becoming self-aware of his “mob character” status, fights to break free from it. Sometimes with passion, sometimes without even realizing it, he overcomes various challenges and, alongside the original heroines, creates the best youth story of all.

While browsing through NU as my new daily routine as I, have reignited my flame for reading WNs. I was mostly looking for bad~mediocre novels as most of them are. Then, I happen to stumble upon this. Reading the title, I thought that this would be another generic mob novel. And wow.

I was pleasantly surprised.

Kohinata Seiya doesn't know the "Original Story" Is a very very good novel. I may be abit biased as I just finished reading the recent chapter but alas, here is my review on it.

It starts off... more>> on a fantastic first chapter. The itself writing is gripping as if wanting you - the reader to read more and more. The first chapter actually made me think about my Mob Mindset too. "Unless you change that mindset, you'll always be nothing more than a "mob character". Those words struck a chord in me. After all, deep down in our hearts, we want to be a protagonist in our story. No matter how much we make excuses for ourselves thinking that we'll be fine as an "extra". Of course, not everyone thinks that way and thats completely fine. But anyway, enough babbling about that.

The first chapter is, once again, very gripping. It's a lengthy first chapter but fantastic nonetheless. It sets up a few mysteries really well. Like, who was the young man that Seiya talked to in the beginning? How does Seiya not have any memories from his past life as im definitely sure that he's a reincarnator. But alas, I may just be overanalyzing and he may just be an actual mob in this story and was just moved by that young mans words.

Edit: By reading another review, it seems that Seiya is just a mob. Im illiterate.

Seiya himself is an interesting protagonist. Wanting to become a protagonist just because of someones advice, and changed. Nothing I can really say much but for now, he's entertaining and decent. His speech was moving too.

Akari herself, is cute. Again, nothing much to say though other than her wanting to break free of her heroine status.

Yuuri needs more screentime though I'm intrigued as he was the original protagonist.

The Reincarnators are just haters. Nothing much to say here too.

All in all, this novel is a very refreshing read. But i'll hold off scoring it a 4.5 since theres only a few amount of chapters released. If the author keeps the momentum, this would for sure become a great novel. <<less

This novel explores the struggle against destiny through the story of Seiya, a true background character—just an ordinary "mob" in an original world. Unlike typical "mob reincarnation" stories, Seiya isn’t reborn with special knowledge or powers. Instead, his journey begins when someone points out that he's just like a minor character in a story. Refusing to accept this fate, Seiya fights to become the protagonist of his own life.

As he pushes against the limits of his supposed role, Seiya connected to the main characters of the original story. Interestingly, they... more>> too seek to break free from their predetermined roles, rejecting the paths set for them by the unseen hands of the story's creators. Along the way, reincarnators—people who know the original plot—try to interfere.

This novel offers a refreshing perspective on agency and self-determination. It proves that you don’t need reincarnation, foreknowledge, or external cheats to rewrite your story—you only need the determination to become the protagonist of your own life. <<less
