I absolutely love this story idea, and this story isn't really half bad. So why the low rating you ask?

While I don't doubt the author of this story is a writer, I believe this is the first novel that he's written, or this is a project that he just threw together as something while taking a break from, or to pass time in between serious works. While this is a good story, the author is writing a chapter or three, then re-writing the same exact chapter (s), but from another... more>> character's point of view, making the story, long, drawn out, and downright boring as hell. It's a tactic some amateur authors use to try to lengthen their work, or use when they're experiencing writer's block, hoping to come up with new ideas, which is another reason why real authors use outlines.

Also, there is no real character, or story, development. Every scenario is too short and underdeveloped. There are too many cliches and borrowed ideas. I especially hate the over used bit about the male MC walking with beautiful women, and surrounding men looking at him with "mu*derous eyes" - that's so shounen. In my 50+ yrs, I've only seen envious stares, and stares of wanting, but we are not animals. No woman (except very shallow ones) would pursue a man who injured the one they're with. It would only draw their ire and malice. Same goes for any man trying to demean the man they're with in front of them. Those shallow women that would, only do it in secret. (Also only in movies) I don't know - maybe that is the way it is in Japan, but I've never seen it anywhere else I've been. But still, just too cliche. Mentioning it too often gets too old too, like in this story.

The translating is halfway decent. The TL even notes when something is confusing or questionable, which earns my respect. <<less

This novel is really cool and I totally love it (Ok, I love low fantasy novels), I've readed all the RAWs and what can I say? It was fun. Some people will compare it with "everyone in class got summoned to a different world except me" but there are just a few elements close to that novel. This one is about 10000 times better. The characters are likable, there are a lot of interesting arcs, a nice romantic subplot, the MC is not an idiot and there also some nice... more>> real life tokusatsu!!!!! The returned hero novels aren't that common and its a seinen since it has the point of view of a poor university student.

The new translators are doing a crear job, so just give it an oportunity. <<less

The plot seems interesting, it reminds me of the other novel "everyone in class got summoned to a different world except me"

But the grammar is the translations is so awful it literally hurts my brain trying to piece it together. Couldn't even finish the prologue.

Will come back to it if the grammar/translation becomes better as I enjoy these types of stories.

I was apprehensive at first delving into this novel however once you get past the first few chapters it really takes off and becomes quite the gem, the comedy works rather well. (Intimidating a few angry customers into peeing themselves with intimidation, a curse to make a guy get diarrhoea when excited etc.)

One incident I found amusing was a random news broadcast: (MTL so be warned) ... more>>
Spoiler

At dawn last night, a 45-year-old plumber, Mario Mao, sued the current criminal for repeated dangerous driving on the Metropolitan Expressway. According to the police, Mario suspected that the speed of the turtle shell was thrown to another car, repeated width adjustment, meandering, etc. In addition to a significant speed over several hours from midnight on the same day, and did not follow the stop instruction by the police A lot of drugs have been detected in the mushrooms found in the suspect's car and suspected that the brother Luigi ○ Rio who escaped from the scene I am pursuing my suspicion of being involved in the incident and pursuing the guilt of Mao's suspect.

It never seems to go over the top and the comedy moments while cliche in places are employed well.

My only concerns are:

That despite being in a world without magic, people still have levels and one girl for instance can sense/see magic power which just feels like plot convenience, either everyone should be able to see it or no one should unless they are monks or something.

Dense MC to the point of disbelief, this guy is around mid twenties at this point, was offered various marriage partners including the princess whom is also a saint and even had a maid offer to give him a no strings quickie before he went back to his world and he treats it all like it's a joke, (The princess and various concubines were offered by the king in front of his subjects too.) he also has a girl he's known since middle school who's had a VERY obvious crush on him to the point of asking him out to eat food etc, and he's completely oblivious to this when everyone else is aware, she even refers to his sister as a total brocon whom competes with her. (This point makes me drop it from five stars as the unrealistic events from this are just too strong from this one point alone and will seemingly continue.)

The novel plays out as if the girls are the MC's of this story with good personalities and entertaining hi-jinx whilst the MC is the tool for plot progression. (Which is normally the other way around in novels.) <<less

It started off great, but wandered into doofus territory and flopped.

I understand that it's the standard for young male Japanese protagonists to be easily pushed around by females, but the trope is lame and worn out. It might be okay if the protagonist showed signs of growing out if it but, like it happens so often in these stories, it seems more like he's just getting worse.

It's a slice of life novel. This is the most important thing for your readers. If you don't like this genre, I don't recommend this novel.

You like slice of life novel? Then here's my impression.

MC past as a former hero did affect his action, but it wasn't to the point where it affects his relationship (aside from attracting girls due to his gait and aura). The characters aren't that fleshed out, but its good enough that the comedy the author tries to deliver get delivered to reader. This novel didn't... more>> stand out as an amazing novel, but if you want slice of life, you get slice of life. There's no heart pounding moment where the characters get a villain where they struggle to defeat.

In conclusion, its a slice of life. The action is not that amazing, it doesn't get your blood pumped out. There's no adventure, beyond an adventure where you ride a motorcycle to go on a trip. Honestly, 4 star is pushing it... but I'm not good at giving votes. <<less

useless note:

I wont beating around the bush, I'm here for the harem end, but in the middle of the story the MC turn down a sub heroine (a very minor character), then I dropped it right away. Lol

Actually this kind of story what I hate the most, why would the fuc*ing author need to introduce a heroine also gave here a background story, a problem needing our MC to solve but in the end just to be rejected and neglected.

Man, I know something like that happened a lot in RL, but can you for a moment be more consistent with the tag you put in your story. It's harem story man, it's story where everyone should be happy. If you're dickless man without a will to create a true harem story, just stop write harem story. I'll be sure to never read a story from this author anymore.

For now I've only read prologue and first two chapters but story looks really good. Well, even if I say 'story' these first chaps give us pretty decent MC. Why is he good?

Because:

    • He isn't exaggerated (not overly dense or perveted etc.)
For example, he do regret a bit that he has no girlfriend but he doesn't rush for relationship.
    • He reacts very naturally, as people would
When he find himself standing on chair after being repatriated he doesn't shoot something like 'I'M HOME!!!' but quietly comes down while feeling a bit embarassed.

And then he thought that he forgot most of his study material. And that's perfectly logical but always left forgotten.

And to conclude, this novel presents the most natural way for MC to realise that he have power (just used light magic out of habbit)

P.S. English isn't my native so I'm sorry for any errors

Edit:

Read up to 60th episode.

I was a bit wrong and MC ultra-dense but luckily his girl (though most likely it will not be girl but girls) is bold enough to make up for it.

Next, it seems, excluding MC's mother, Queen and girls who already have boyfriends, almost all other are in love with MC. Well, since they don't seem to be empty templates it's still good enough.

For now the story is easy-going and there aren't any worldwide conspiracies or world threats so it's easy to read. Recommend this novel as one of the best light read I found to date. (For me it actually 4.6-4.7 so I leave it as 5)

3/5, readable but with nothing worth really mentioning other then the interesting setting.

Romance: 1/5, as the MC attracts females just by existing, overwriting their rational thinking if they had one to begin with

Action: 4/5, it's ok and with nice pacing

... more>> Storytelling: 2.5/5, the little ingenious and innovative parts of the story are submerged by tropes and uninterestingly stereotypical situations

Characters depth: 1.5/5, might be harsh being only 19 chapters in (21 currently aviable), but the characters seem really flat and stereotypical, with very little to distinguish them from the mass of secondary characters in any other novel

Lenguage: 4/5, the narration (and teaslation) is clear, making the reading overall enjoyable. That's the biggest reason I'm still giving this novel a passing grade of 3/5.

If you haven't read similar novels already, this may be for you. Otherwise, you may find this uninteresting, considering how many similar (and definetly better developed) novels there are in the genre <<less
