It’s Not Easy Being a Master

Shen Zhixian transmigrated into a book as a cannon fodder master who hatefully severed his disciple’s spirit root. This disciple fell into the devil’s path and returned to make mincemeat out of him.

Shen Zhixian just happened to transmigrate into the last moment of the master’s captivity, and then he was reborn again.

After rebirth, he devoted himself to fostering and supporting his disciple, only to discover later that his disciple was also reborn.

Even worse, the disciple still retained the memory of his life before rebirth.

Shen Zhixian: …Disturbed.

Afterward, he realized one truth: Being a master is a high-risk occupation. Not trivial at all!

There are many mysteries on this Novel. MC's body he transmigrated over has a heart illness & his memories are not complete. Actually both MC&ML don't have their full memory on their present second life. It's throughout reading that the story slowly unravels what happened to the first life. Well it's actually interesting just take note that this is more on adventure and sloooow romance. One of d fun chap for me is the last xtra chapter about the dream, iz just fluff hahaha

At first I thought it was very similar to SVSSS but the twist completely changed my opinion. At first I ML remembering his past was a major annoyance to me (even tho I liked the concept in Transmigrating into the Reborn Male Lead’s Ex-Boyfriend) with the twist everything made sense. A nice and light read (compared to other novels of this genre). Would recommend.

Plus, I enjoyed the translation.

This is a novel of a master and a cold-fluffy type of ML that listen to MC everytime. Also, there is no r*pe or force scene and very but very little vinegar scene.

Most of the novel is centered outside of the sect and trying to discover the culprit that is framing them.

If this is ur type, them I would recommend to you.

Although this novel is short but it is pack full of interesting plots and characters. With all these details it can actually be a 150+ chapters novel. But the author is able to make it into <100 chapters novel. Impressive! Highly recommended.

Personally I prefer this kind of condensed form of novel (rarely found) to the usually dragging on and on (which happen a lot) kind of novel.

Rating: 5/5- Wow, where do I even begin! This is what rebirth/transmigration novels should be about it. Totally worth it!

When I started this novel, I was worried it would disappoint me like a few other novels of the same genre, but soon after the first 3-4 chapters, it just picked up and it became such a smart and beautiful story. It doesn't have major plot twists or OP type characters. It's a story that feels good with just the right amount of everything and that is what my review is... more>> based on. (Don't compare it to Scum Villain, that's my advice)

I really commend the author's storytelling skills as well as the translator for ensuring such a well written story, comes through.

Firstly the characters are really beautiful, very wholesome and the author spent time developing them and their backstories. The plot flows brilliantly with mystery and suspense egging you onwards to turn the next page. Side characters are just as substantial and you can connect with them.

The imagery and secret realms were a big plus for me because I genuinely enjoy secret realm stories and plundering spoils as well as various cultivation types.

I loved the little side stories with the characters they encountered on their journeys. The heartbreak and pain as well as the joy and love really came through without feeling rushed, untimely or half-baked, throughout the novel. Even though I personally love cultivation novels with emphasis on the ascension to immortal level and foundation building. This book wasn't as heavily xianxia focused but it still drew me in. I think the mystery around the characters and the truth about what really happened in their pasts, was enough to hook me.

In a way the respectful, satisfying and wholesome relationship between the MC and ML was a highlight, only second to the well written and tied up plot. The ML as well was really great because he wasn't the common trope, even if he had tsundere vibes now and then.

I'd love to explore some side character relationships and even read a spin-off or two. Of course, little Caoya was amazing as well. Plant spirits are my new thing!

Overall this is such a wonderful novel! I really had a great time following this story. Well paced, neither too long or short and satisfying overall. These characters are simply fantastic and the plot is truly fantastic! Currently this has to be my third favorite cultivation novel after LMW and MDZS.

Just give it a go! <<less

While the beginning of this novel was similar to another popular story, it quickly developed into its own original by about chapter 3 with something Exciting happening in almost every chapter. What made this novel memorable for me was the author's descriptions of various, cute demon beasts, which seemed (almost) sweeter than the romance. Almost.

The premise is good, I got really hooked towards the beginning.

Especially when the author manages to link the "original" body's owner and the current owner together in the later chapters.

Spoiler

I think it was genius how the current owner was living in the real-world but that was actually deemed to be inside the novel created by the bald guy to nurture his soul. Truly didn't see that coming.

[collapse]

Perhaps I'm a glutton for punishment but I would also have wanted more regret and angst by Yan Jin, especially when
Spoiler

he finds after killing SZX that he was actually possessed. Awwwww sweets

Chapters I love: 1+, and 60+.

Rating: High 3.8, nearing 4. Bit of confusion near the end due to the mystery element <<less

I want to give this novel a 5 but because of reasons listed below I’d put it at a solid 4.

First of all, I went into this thinking it would be similar to Scum Villain because I love the master-disciple trope. However, the plot of this one is definitely not what I’d call a “rip-off” or “copy” of scum villain. While they do share similarities between characters, it’s more of a trope thing rather than intentional plagiarism.

And as for the plot, I’d read other reviews for more in-depth info, but... more>> I’d say this was a solid, enjoyable read with both adventure and the pining romance we all came here for~ My heart ached for the characters and their misunderstandings, and I enjoyed every interaction they had. There’s a lot of mystery and the past plays a huge part so definitely don’t judge this by the cover!

Now the reason I rate this a 4 instead of 5 is the fact that the mystery part was kind of... confusing. After reading through the whole thing it starts to make sense, but the way the mystery is revealed is so slow and incremental that it gets sort of frustrating. But the reveal was rather satisfying so it was enjoyable nonetheless!

Basically, this is a decent read for those who love a good master-disciple, red and white relationship with a ton of mystery to unravel and shocking plot twists!!

(also this is my first review bc I felt like it and I’m on mobile so I’m not sure how long this is! Ty for reading~) <<less

i can’t believe how thorough the author was tying up all the loose ends, they even came up with an explanation of why the demon beasts feared MC so much LMAOOOOO. Only thing I didn’t really get was how the MC got into the modern world

At first it seems to be the classic transmigration story, but it’s a little bit more complex. It will seem hard to understand in the 2nd half, but the author explains everything and in the end you understand everything clearly. I enjoyed it, already read it 3 times and every time I find out a small detail which I missed.

4.5/5. This one is really nice and really refreshing from the common rebirth/transmigration novels because both the MC and ML was reborn. It gave of a new feeling and I really liked how both of them were well-adjusted and can cope with the situations. I get why the ML was really cautious and doesn't blame him for it. Very light read with a bit of angst and many fluffs. You'll enjoy this for sure.

I really liked it so far, there are some mysteries on the back-story of the characters, really nice.

I feel that the relationship between the MC and ML it is a slow-burn, but because it is slow it feels more genuine. Brings a warm and comfortable feeling (UvU)

In the beginning it really made me remember "scum villain's self-saving system'' novel, but it wasn't a bad thing at all for me and soon it was shown that it was only some facts that made the two resemble each other.

Let's start off with the important part of the review, this novel was amazing!!!! I would definitely recommend everyone to read it. It's full of mysteries and it really makes you want to read more of it.

Now onto some things I see in the comment section, to be frank I really hate the fact that people keep comparing this novel with SVSSS. There's some similarities in the story, but that's not because this novel is a 'shitty ripoff of SVSSS'. It's more because SVSSS is already pretty cliché so it's... more>> not weird seeing these tropes in similar story settings. I could go on and on about the differences between these two, but that would defeat the purpose of spurring people on to read the novel and uncover the mysteries by themselves. Also, , how can you write a review of something you haven't completely read???

To be honest, those reviews almost made me not want to read this story in the first place... But I'm really glad I did in the end, because I really really liked this story a lot.

They're both good, INEBM and SVSSS. But I think that comparing the two is quite, , dumb. Both have good things and bad things, but never the worst.

That's why I want any reviews readers read this as it's own story, and not as a shadow of SVSSS. ? <<less

The story is cliche of transmigrated master and revenge seeking disciple, it was not bad but not the best I read. The translation was ok with some grammar mistakes and typos but nothing extreme and easily ignored.

This is your typical disciple- master novel (seriously, if you have read 2 of this genre you have read them all) but nonetheless, it was pleasant to read. The MC is clever, the ML after a point cares for him deeply and what I really liked about this novel was the fact that the MC properly accepted his feelings and cared for his disciple, it didn't follow any unfortunate "dubious consent" tropes. It properly deserves a 3 star rating more but the ending was really sweet, I can't help myself.

A... more>> big thank you to the translator (s) for giving us the ability to read and review this novel. Thank you <3 <<less

Not bad! Tbh I did get a little bored halfway through so I was considering rating it 4 stars, but I decided it deserves a whole extra star because ML is classic devilish OP tyrant WITHOUT ANY sort of r*pe or dubious consent or force on his master!!! Too rare for this to be the case, so I'm extremely happy about this. All s*xual relations are 100% consented and enjoyed by both parties (but entirely censored out). IMO the better version of Scum Villain.

I also like the way they tied... more>> the whole story & transmigration explanation together. It's quite smart, but I do think it could've been foreshadowed a little more earlier on. Basically, the story changes drastically like halfway through lol. I also feel like there was quite a bit of filler, where instead (side) characters could've been developed more instead. Some of the arcs felt unnecessary tbh.

All in all, decent. Thanks to the translator for their hard work! <<less
