Ok, this is a story about a guy who is born in a noble household in a medieval setting but, after 1 month, he was magically transported away from his home and sent into the future (basically to modern times). After spending 18 years growing up in an orphanage and graduating high school he's finally magically summoned back to his time by his parents who found a wizard to bring him back, they re-unite, , and the story starts. Well, it the process of the summoning his gender changes... more>> to that of a girl but, well, that's the risks of time traveling!

It's not every day you come across a story where the MC is summoned (or re-summoned) by his original parents. So that's something new I think, but there's problems as well, IMO. The translator does a great job, but the story is, well, I'm dropping it and all because of the MC. Firstly, why make a gender swapping character when he was already originally girly even as a boy? He doesn't go through any of the conflicts that most boys would go through if they're suddenly forced to live as girls.

Spoiler

Wearing dresses without complaint even though he never wore them before, letting the maid bathe him just because that's how noble girls have their baths done... this in itself might not sound bad in itself but keep in mind he really didn't want to, not complaining about the high heels even though he was AFRAID of tripping in those things when walking down some stairs, and etc.

[collapse]

Really, why make the MC originally a guy that then becomes a girl when his personality is already that of a, well, girl and a very passive one at that? Alice Tale did this too, what's funny or interesting about going through the added effort of making your character a gender bender if he adjusts to his new gender without any issues at all?

And then there's his personality, or lack thereof. He's passive, he's very passive, he's just so freaking passive with everyone about everything. I've already read stories about passive MCs 101 times, I'll admit I tend not to like them, but this guy takes it to a whole new level... but, ok, not everyone has a problem with passive MCs so let me mention the extent he takes it to.

Spoiler

Even though he grew up in modern times he let's his parents dictate everything to him, doesn't even stand up for himself in front of the servants like I mentioned in the spoilers, and even accepts it when his maid mentions that his parents will arrange a marriage for him in the future... even though he's mentally a man! And not gay! And spent the first 18 years of his life in modern times! This guy is a complete 100% doormat. And the worst thing is that he doesn't like some of this stuff (including the likely future arranged marriage) but the most he can do about it is lightly (yes, LIGHTLY) complain about it in his head. He's not just a beta, he's a cuck.

[collapse]

I acknowledge that part of the reason I gave such a low rating is because I hate passive MCs but he takes it to such an absurd level that I don't think I'll be the only one face-palming at this. Now, we're only 15 chapters in so we haven't seen how the MC more modern education impacts things yet, all the other characters seem to be written OK from what I can tell, and as for the MC's parents I'm actually glad they have medieval values... they're not bad people and they clearly love the MC, they just have different values. Unfortunately, the one guy in the series here with modern values is an utter doormat that's too much of a wimp to stand up for anything, so a lot of opportunities for conflict was flushed down the toilet and I see ALOT of wasted potential.

If I hear some good news regarding this series in the future then I'll take a second look. But, I'm done with this series for now. The doormat MC that never expresses a contrary opinion (outside his head) killed this series for me. I gave this 2 stars. -1 for the, IMO, unnecessary gender bending that serves no purpose other than to look cool and -2 for an MC so passive that he makes many of the standard passive Japanese MCs look like freaking alphas. Pity really, I could see myself giving this series 4 stars, potentially 5 depending on future story development, if it had a better MC. <<less

It's a bit unfortunate but this novel is pretty lackluster it started off strong having a few things to spice up the story and make it interesting but quickly throws them out the door leaving me wondering why it even had those things to begin with. The gender bending doesn't add anything to the story and leaves me wondering why it was included also the transported to another world is kinda of pointless as well the MC acts like she was a rich noble girl from a fantasy setting to... more>> begin with and not a male orphan that grew on earth. <<less

It's funny how the themes to be explored, like affronting the medieval values from his family or the dramatical change from being an orphan boy to a sheltered girl are left untouched. Instead we get more than 15 chapters of descriptions of the mansion :/
I expect something from his/her lessons with the old man, meanwhile 2/5 is all it deserves.

Ai-chan has always loved gender bender stories, they're so fun. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about this story. While the premise is fine, it suffers from one debilitating problem.

And that is... it's f*cking boring!

Seriously! I can understand slow and to some extent, I can enjoy slow. This is beyond slow. The protagonist has absolutely no personality. He/she is something like "Oh, I'm in another world. Ok." and "Oh, I'm actually not an orphan. Ok." and "Oh, I'm actually a girl. Mm, ok." and "Oh I'm a rich girl. Mm,... more>> ok."

Like put some emotion into the character already! Even a sterile person who can't show emotions in front of people can be interesting, but this is completely boring. <<less

I want morrrrrrrre ?
I like it so much already

I didn't think I would like it since its tagged 'genderbender' but it's really different from the generic genderbender because...

Spoiler

he was born as a she so when he was transported into a different world his body went back to a girl's

[collapse]

So there isn't this feeling that her gender changing is an unfair thing because it's meant to be :)

What a interesting concept with exceptional execution. We have a poor orphan boy ready to set on the world only to set into a different not as a boy but as it should of always been a young miss. It's a good story that most wouldn't want to miss.

I really love this story. It's a very lax slice-of-life story about family and also some romance sprinkled in there too.

The people who are talking bad about how passive the MC is probably didn't even reach till the end of the first arc of the novel.

The first arc is very slow and might be boring for some people, but you don't have to read all that immediately, take your time. One chapter at a time.

If you're gonna judge the story, I'd recommend reading the second arc at least. That's where... more>> its all at.

Spoiler

The mystery behind her disappearing, the most romantic aspects of the story where she meets her fated one and whatnot, it's all in the second arc.

The third and fourth arcs are some little adventures she ends up having in the other world... can't really be called adventures, but I'll go with it.

The third arc is about cleaning up the mess that the second arc created in places far away. She meets James Charles too... well, at least that's how I interpreted that new guy to be (people didn't like him very much, they saw him as a love rival for some reason...I don't get why, he was obviously joking that one time when they first met and never showed any signs of going after the MC... in fact, he seems to be very supportive of their relationship, like everyone else. And he also seems a little gay to me.) You also get some cute romantic scenes in between with the MC and ML in that arc.

The third arc is about dealing with ghosts the week before Christmas with her dead ancestors, and although people say its got a lot of plotholes and such, I found it to be one of the most fun arcs of this story, after the second arc. Also it ends with a very romantic scene.

And then finally the fourth arc which is the wedding arc. It lays the story down gently, the pace softens up and everything finally seems to be coming to a close with a nice big wedding and some happy goodbyes.

[collapse]

People say how the MC is passive, but honestly, that can't be judged really cause she never gets the chance to show it. The only reason she seems that way is because she goes along with most things, she's slightly uncomfortable wearing girls' cloths but she doesn't hate it and also wants to get used to it. She doesn't do anything when people tell her she's not worthy to inherit their house cause she doesn't want to inherit it, she won't get into a meaningless argument with someone she doesn't care about so she just tells them the truth. She is dissatisfied when she finds out she is expected to be married off to a man, but she doesn't do anything cause that's way further down the line, and anything can happen during that time, she can deal with it when her parents bring it up, which they never did. (And something does happen... she falls in love.)

Really, her life in the new world is so easygoing and simple that she can actually afford to be passive. But when it counts she actually doesn't just sit back, when someone tries to approach her suggestively, she immediately turns them down and gets angry, even if the other person was just joking. She doesn't let everyone do everything for her, she just doesn't have the power to help, but she tries, in every way possible she tries to be useful and that's something.

She's not passive, there just had not been many situations where she had to speak up. It's a very relaxing novel so no major drama going on. There's absolutely no love rivals or whatever, nobody actually aims for the MC other than the ML himself. ML is a decent character himself. Also MC is not oblivious when it comes to romance or tries to deny it, she is actually very forward and initiates a lot of steps too, although very shyly, like when giving him a lap pillow or asking him to take her on a date.

MC is not passive, she's just not an intense character at all. Its a really good novel if you can see it for what it is, a very slow and relaxing love story that's also about family. <<less

A surprisingly nice story. Mainly SoL, generally lighthearted exploration of MC's new situation. Not much comedy, though.

Some reviewers criticized the GB theme, and complained how MC accepted the change so quickly. IMO not everyone has a dire attachment to their old lives. There are many who can change and adapt to a new situation.

Overall well written by the author; generally good translations by both translators.

Many people's self-perception is tied to their own body. Consider the common story of teenagers who start suffering from acne, or the stories of people who... more>> become crippled in some way. Even the stories of long -term employees who lose their jobs. Don't they change?

The MC is somewhat similar. Except she got something she wanted in return for losing her old body - her parents. Furthermore, she was rather as*xual in her old life, without much attachment to being a boy. It's not like she was some macho playboy who stuck it into anyone wearing a skirt. <<less

So, I started off this novel with high prospects.

but well, it started off good, and then selves into the usual Japanese archetype and generics.

A passive MC, who does nothing and comes as it goes. Legit, the MC barely speaks, she/he thinks more about furniture and how a castle rooms decorated then actually speaking sentences.

The other characters are actually more interesting than the MC. They try to get him to fit in and talk to him and reconnect, but since he’s so passive. It all just feels fake and just a... more>> mere joke.

And when something happens in this new world, you’d think the first thing he does is to go and tell the people who honestly care about him.

But no. He doesn’t, he f*cking just stalls it all out and acts all passive. He SHE. Has to be the most passive character I’ve ever read about.

i honestly thought the little brother was an interesting character, I thought he disliked his new sister, and was going to have drama.

And it’s be this whole, “I’m your sister. I’ll try to be a good sister! And look out for you!” Like cute sibling shit.

but it turns out the brother is a tsundere or some shit. And then things get boring real quick.

im tired of Japanese stories detailing castle architecture and furniture. I know it’s good to be descriptive. But ones attention mustnt always be on architecture.

This is quite an interesting story, probably the best Gender Bender I've read so far.

The main selling point of this IMO, is how the MC actually looks like someone that has been through a huge change on his to her life, being thrown into a different world with different gender all of a sudden and having to adapt to a totally new reality is quite a shock for sure, and the author does an excellent job in exploring that.

5/5 for sure, would definitely recommend for anyone that wishes to see... more>> this kind of psychological thing. <<less

I've never met a more uninteresting and boring MC than the MC of this novel!
The author could've turned this novel into a gem, but chose to kill their own idea into a stillborn almost from
the get-go. The MC is just "there", like a bypasser or an extra's extra. This novel is a total miss.

I'd like to start of by saying that I found this stories beginning to be quite unique which initially captured my interest.

Unfortunately I had to give this story a 2 star rating due to the fact that it has an interesting beginning, but a very uninteresting MC imo. Like some of the other reviews here I personally agree that the MC who came from a modern society such as ours, is much to passive. Things that we today would find abhorrent and would likely fight tooth and nail to prevent,... more>> (s) he simply meekly accepts.

Another reason I gave this review a 2 star rating is;

Spoiler

The people around the MC know that he came from another world, yet not one of them asks about it. Not about what it was like or anything. The only thing they learn in passing mind you, is that he grew up in a commoner lifestyle. Which doesn't tell them much at all. I mean come on... if it was me i'd be asking a million questions!

So far the story isn't really all that captivating for me, it's just MC getting used to her new life. However I suspect that there'll be development in some kind of plot in the next few chapters relating to the previous world. The gender bender aspect is not really all that focused on in the WN so far, it's just MC having a few insecurities due to the change in his gender and it doesn't really talk about them in much detail.

In the future I may raise the score from... more>> 3/5 to something else if there are any interesting developments. However, at the moment I believe this is a fitting score for this novel. <<less

people should really avoid giving a review after reading just a dozen or less chapters, you can't judge a book with a few pages. the 5 stars ratings are mostly from those readers.

Like most of the 2-3 stars ratings said, the setting was good, quite interesting and refreshing, but there's nothing happening in these 30+ chapters I've read... Saying that this novel has a slow pace is insulting even to a snail ^^' I liked the setting but after those 30 chapters, I was just here wondering "why am I... more>> forcing myself to read blocks of text with info that my brain just don't care".

Try it if you want, but only if you're a speed reader and can jump over to the important bit of the story.

I'm a bit sad since the translation is good :/

2.5/5 readable but a waste of time, at least till chap 30-ish <<less

Usually I like isekai story but this one, I don't really like it.

The MC is too weak in many place. I know the MC is a girl when he/she born but.. the way he/she act is make me wonder where the heck is his 18 years lived as boys experience??

Sorry not my cup of tea...

So far so good.

After finished reading chapter 4, this story seem to be a light-hearted one with a very optimistic protagonist.

Well, I still can't say anything much about this since there's still no actual plot revealed.

It's an alright story though the author has a tendency to ramble but that may also just be an issue with the translations being too literal. The beginning started out pretty well but for the last half I admittedly just started skimming chapters since I was getting bored but wanted to force myself to finish. The MC is herself is pretty plain, passive and overall most the drama was pretty boring and predictabl. You can also tell the author is a woman with how she writes this male character more... more>> or less just accepting everything without a single fight and she readily accepts the cultural shock far too easily. No one really asks about the world she lived in before outside some comment on her living the 'commoners life' and anytime its brought up its just shrugged off. And lets be honest here, our modern world lifestyle and technology would be considered living like an emperor to the people living in this medieval world and definitely not like a commmoner and they should be picking her brain to advance themselves similar to Ascendance of a Bookworm.

My other annoyance isn't with the story but the translations. The early chapters were done by people that seemed to hate just translating words and loved leaving romaji everywhere which can get annoying if you don't know the words. The point of reading a translation is since I can't read Japanese which means if it can be translated it should be. Though maybe I've just become spoiled by official translations by companies like J-Novel Club. <<less

As for chapter 3... well there's not much going on but I think it has quite a potential.

There's not much Slice of Life novel with Gender Bender twist in it to begin with. So we can look forward into it in the future when more chapter is released.

For now 4/5 is suffice since I'm looking forward to the future.

The very first realistic isekai slice of life that I've read, author really put his mind writing the details. The writing is kind of awkward though, both to the author and translators (especially Luminaeris' part.. Its kinda hard to read). Overall I love the character, Seiren, enough to continue this story.

Quick Review

Slow story more focused on Drama than what you'd expect from an Isekai or Gender Bending story. It's about the very passive MC coming to terms with being a daughter of a noble, learning about the world, and finding out what she should do. No action, no Isekai OP power, very plain Drama with an Isekai/Gender Bender flavour.

I'd rate it 2.5 Stars if possible.
