Some reviews said something about weak willed MC because he let himself be controlled by others like small girls or nobles....

Well, they weren't wrong. But can't say they have the best insight.

MC is playing a game. The game has story mode. In any game with story mode, the game controls you. You do have some degree of freedom, but in the end, you're playing a game and the game controls your character. Got it? Oh and about the game character being a kid. Do you have the same complaints when... more>> you play pokemon? Or zelda? Or animal crossing?

And in his real life he doesn't let himself be controlled by anyone else. He make deals and even bought a whole company for him to live freely. You still think this man is a wimp?

People, if you want to review, let go of your f*cking biases. You dislike this genre, don't read. You dislike jp isekai, don't read. You can't even read up to 30 chapters, let it go. Don't bit*h about your inability to enjoy novels due to your personal tastes. We also don't need to taste your existential crisis due to your ugly rants regarding how MC should act. We don't care. This is a place to enjoy novels, not some haters subreddit.

Ok now my real review:

Average. Nothing new. Game world, isekai, cheats, your average jp MC but with a bit of spicy real life side, switch between isekai and real world. Verdict: an ok read to kill time. Nothing to praise, nothing to badmouth. If you enjoy those tags I mentioned above, give it a try. If you don't, just don't waste your time. <<less

The story started good. but like all other Japanese novels, it became ret*rded. The thirty something year old MC started acting like a five year child after the initial few chapters.

And like all other other Japanese MCs this one too lack a backbone.. Allowing from little kids to old men to take advantage of him. Each time I read the next chapter I wanted to beat the sh*t out of the MC...

The only reason I'm reading this is for the interesting story concept..

I'm dropping this because it is too frustrating to continue. The final straw for me was when:
Spoiler

The main character treats a noble's son's illness, but the noble's daughter ends up claiming credit because she badgered MC to do it in the middle of the night (he had offered to do it already and was scheduled to do it the next day) because she was bored. The noble offers his daughter "if you have anything you want just say it." The MC is mistakenly thinking he is getting that offer until the daughter replies "He cured my brother and seems interesting. I want him to be mine." At which point the noble says that it's a good idea without asking for any input from MC.

Cut to the next chapter and MC is her damn servant even though he is a literal god in that world and has a dragon demi-god on speed dial that would do pretty much whatever he asked. He even mentions that unlike every other servant he isn't being given a salary, and there was no mention of an actual reward for healing the son either. He instead has to ask for things that he wants and they might buy it for him, but that is somehow better than having his own money that he could save up and keep with him when he leaves the job.

[collapse]

I can deal with a weak willed MC. I can deal with pushy side characters mistreating the MC. I can't deal with bad writing that puts these characters as allies and love interests. It would be somewhat redeemable if the main character was at least upset by his treatment even if he was too weak willed to speak up about it. Instead he has no problems living as a doormat and he and everyone else act as if this is normal. This wasn't the first time that MC was treated this way, and I highly doubt it is the last. Avoid this unless that appeals to you for some reason. <<less

All in All the book was quite a good read. The God concept was interesting and the Author explored concept well... In the beginning. After the original world building arc of the story, things started to go down hill, in my opinion.

First of all the MC's personality is incredibly jarring. He is your basic bit*h character that allows pretty much anyone and everyone to push him around. And his severe lack of confidence just makes me want to beat him up for some reason. I'm not sure if this kind... more>> of character is popular in Japan or in the east in general, but personally I don't feel that the genre translates that well to the "western" community. This is probably one of the main reasons I felt forced to drop the book.

Second of all is the side characters in the book, mainly the women. Why are they so annoying?!! You've just met the MC but you are already treating him like your s*ave!!! I just can't stand a Book that consistently treats the character, that the story's point of view is from, like dirt.

All of that said, I lost the will to read the book. I have no reason to torture myself so I won't. Hopefully if you are reading this, feeling the same way I do, you'll realise you don't have to torture yourself as well.

Well I've said my peace I'm out hopefully to find a different God protagonist concept book.

"Reborn as a GOD" on Webnovel is a good read if you are looking for a GOD protagonist book. <<less

Safelink sucks. I rather liked this one, but have to throw it into the unreadable bin because I can no longer access the chapters with the removal of the direct link. I have tried the safelink link and it just leads to an endless loop between the false chapter and the table of contents.

On the story front, it is an interesting concept that is generally well written. By well written I mean that, as of chapter 19, his reactions to his situation are very realistic to how a real person... more>> would react. The MC feels like a real human rather than just a character in a story.

His rather passive reactions to some situations are typical of many Japanese MCs and are of course sometimes irritating from a reader's standpoint. We want to see him DOING something rather than sitting there in bewilderment. The thing is that if I put myself in his situation, lacking almost all information and thrown into a completely unfamiliar environment, I realize my own reactions would not be all that much different.

And it's still early in the story, he hasn't even really had a full 24 hours since things got real. There is a lot of hope for the future where he gains confidence, information, and power. I'm really looking forward to the future where he grows into what he could be. Or, I would be, if I wasn't dropping it for now because I can't actually access the chapters..... <<less

Pros:
- Witnessing the world's creation
- Interesting abilities and powers.
- Finding out differences from the rules of the "other" world and the "original" world, and the consequences of bringing items from one to the other is interesting.
- The switching between the real world and the other world feels like you're alternating between two stories at once.

Cons:
- Female falls in love immediately upon rescue, which makes no sense. Not only is this cliche unrealistic, but the female was even strong enough to defend herself. The guy is... more>> like some plain middle aged man too. She has absolutely no reason to fall in love with him.
- Powers receive has absolutely no explanation as to why they were given to the protagonist, as of current chapter. This could change, or it could be completely "that's just how it is" and we'll never mention it ever again.
- Author sounds like they're making excuses about a character's actions to the reader.
- Protagonist gets dragged along by a selfish side character, to force the story along. In other words, the protagonist don't have their own will. The story might as well be about the side character, because he's just being pushed around.
- Protagonist just rambles on and on and on. His monologue is way too damn long, usually about the same thing. It's like when someone has a 500 word essay and they're trying to reach the word count by rambling on and saying the same thing 50 different ways.

Overall:
- It started off well, but the pacing is starting to become stale due to how it drags on. <<less

I want to make one in an attempt to sort of offset the shade being cast on this story. I will say yes, I agree that what many people are saying about the MC is sort of right. He is a far cry from an alpha male. As someone who in a sense stands at the peak of life, it is somewhat inexcusable. That said what I will say here is, somewhat contradictory. Still, I want people reading this as much as possible to try and understand where I'm coming... more>> from when I say this. "This story is not about the MC in the least bit." It is about the world, and how
Spoiler

it crosses over to interact with other worlds.

[collapse]
The MC can be thought of as more a gardener. One who gets caught up in situations concerning a garden he has been "Tasked" with looking out for. Even if he raised it from conception. No understatement to say that the MC is not very worthwhile. The truth is other characters are better, even the MC feels he pales in comparison. Especially to his most reliable "Son" who he at one point in mental monologue wonders if he would not have been a better choice than the MC. The MC is not a forever doormat, but rather a sort of parent who will step in when they see their child cannot handle things. Before that he is someone who tries to objectively fit into his world and find out how people are living in it. Find out that people are enjoying it. I feel that the compassion and kindness he shows in his position is not only a demerit but in some situations a strength. Like there is more than one occasion where the world spans guys who can be considered "Terrible" who think of the MC as their "Father". They expect that yeah they have done bad things in the world. That the MC could not possibly forgive them, but that is not the truth he sees the world as a place for his kids to grow. At the same time, he is not more than necessarily going out to stomp out any and all forms of conflict. That occurs among his "Children". He is more hands-off and "if they need me, I will help". I personally would not like a character where the MC is going down where ever possible and killing all sources of conflict that just makes him a Tyrant. The story recommended in earlier comments "Reborn as a God" the thing is exactly that the story of a tyrant. It is a large wish-fulfillment story. As opposed to here where the MC is a creator but not all-powerful that story has allowed the MC too much power and free reign.

That is what many were expecting when they start reading this. That is why they end up disappointed. This all said the work is not Great or excellent to the point where it is hard to put down. Still, it is not bad enough where people have to throw it down and gripe in vexation on how terrible it is. Honestly, there are much worst. In the MC defense try to look at him as a new father whose children grow faster than he seemingly can keep up with. Even in the current chapter's one of his "Children" has done something really big and the guy is stuck between admiration for his child's innovation and horror that it might be a cataclysmically terrible thing. What it could mean for the type of "Adult" his child will grow to be. I ask people to try to see, that the side characters are more the Main Characters here. They each have a story so compelling that they could become well-crafted novels of their own. Yet they are all intersecting on a guy who does not stand out much to people. It is reasonable to feel frustrated but it is still worth sticking it out. <<less

  • The translation is a MTL that straddles a fine line between average and borderline unreadable
  • The plot reads like it written by a 12-year old tripping on cough syrup
  • The MC is abnormally apathetic, and sometimes takes action in ways that defy any sort of logic, lack consistency, and make simple problems take way too many chapters to solve
Yet, for some reason, I've kept up with this novel, and even find myself enjoying it. I'm confident 98% of people that try to read this would get bored and/or angry. However, if you're... more>> in that 2% of people desperate for stuff to read, you really could do worse. Maybe I've spent so long staring into the abyss of awful isekai tr*sh that I've reached some sort of unholy enlightenment... or maybe I've just gone crazy. You decide.

I considered a 4 star rating, but I'd have to scrub myself down in the shower for hours afterwards from how dirty that would make me feel. However, I do think the author has gotten marginally better over time, and the release speed is definitely a plus.

Spoiler

Momiji and her onigiri obsession is 60% of what keeps me going tbh

I really tried to give this novel more credit and read on until chapter 83 (I'm a very patient person when it comes to novels) but this was just exhausting to read. First of all, this story is mostly set in a first person perspective so, if that is something you heavily dislike, I'm giving a fair warning. Now, regarding the main character, I have the same sentiments as the other reviews on this novel. MC is frustratingly weak willed and lets the people around him drag him along. He's... more>> passive to how everyone else wants to treat him. Even in the later chapters, when he starts being more proactive, it's still a very generic story that I'd give a 3 at most.

I think what I hate the most, though, is how he doesn't seem to have a goal or anything like that. He's just doing things on a whim. Like when
Spoiler

he chose to buy a company for himself because he felt like it. It didn't really benefit him in any way, he just liked the power ig

[collapse]
. The author should give a better justification for the mc's actions. Otherwise, it just feels weird and distasteful.

Overall, I don't recommend this past the first few chapters. If the author had gone in a different direction, perhaps this would have a higher rating. The author could have paid more attention to the world building, for example. If he wrote more about the kingdoms and tried to show the contrast between their worlds (in views, economic/social hierarchy, governance, prejudice, societal beliefs, religion), I might have rated this a 4, maybe even 5, star. As it is now, though, I'd give it a 2 at most. <<less

The premise is great, and the game is something I would very much enjoy playing myself (even without the alter ego thing, purely as a simulator), but sadly the writing isn't quite as brilliant. The characters are flat and dialogues are extremely short.

The translation is mediocre as well, so it's possible that it is further hurting the novel, but from my point of view it simply doesn't hold up against the really good ones.

Another thing that's a little strange is that the fantasy setting isn't limited to the world the... more>> MC created, but there are people with supernatural abilities and their own fated fantastic battle coming up, which I'm predicting will be beaten by the MC due to his high levels gained in his own world. Compared to this, among the isekai novels that feature travelling back and forth, I much prefer arbitrage and overtechnology.

In short, most of the storylines follow interesting archetypes, but lack in execution.

The safelink thing is annoying, in particular because there's no real chapter navigation. I basically had to open all chapters in new tabs fron NU and then tab through all of them to click the link and then do the same thing another time, and on the first chapter that had a link like that, I needed several minutes until it stopped crashing the tab. This doesn't affect my rating of the novel, but I do hope that the series is eventually picked up by a better translator with a properly functioning website and direct links. <<less

the MC of this story is so bad, I can still accept if he is a pushover tr*sh MC because it's his personality but he don't even show any mental development that a 35 year old man suppose to have, it's like his thinking patterns and experience stop developing somewhere.

to put is simply, his thinking patterns is like a 2 year old baby and can only show simple emotion stimulated by simple thing.

Spoiler

when he know that a 8 year old girl is a genius his reaction is “Buhooo!!” and he can't fathom how this can happen, even a normal 18 year old teenager will no react like that, if he is a mentally handicapped person then it is acceptable but the problem is he's no mentally handicap

This novel was on the border of dropping for the entire time I read it. Mostly mediocre, with some good parts and some bad parts, but not really great or awful parts. After a certain point I realized, I'd read so far in the story and I had no real interest in any of the characters or the world setting. There are certainly things to be resolved, there's reason to believe it should be tough, but I can't help but feel like the protagonist will just sort of... more>> continue to lazily wander around, have all the answers to any mysteries handed to him, have any strength he needs handed to him, and if there's something he can't do himself someone will randomly show up and resolve it for him.

There's no tension anymore, but at the same time there's not enough onigiri fluffy slice of life, so it's mostly not enjoyable. <<less

not so typical isekai but still it's genre is isekai so you know what to expect.

rate this 3.0 borderline 2.0,

our MC is too passive, apathetic, no emotions sure it's because he's "semi immortal" and still lack a reality of his ability, but this makes it so hard to read.

... more>> EDIT: DOORMAT, yeah that's the word for this type of MC,

chapter 26 is the gatekeep if you can tolerate it sure go read more.

typical of japanese MC always swept away by the flow, can't even make his own decisions even against a child, but any other japanese in this story are an aggressive characters I don't know why every author always create MC so "different" against his peers eventho they're always got portrayed as ordinary. <<less

I like the story concept, yeah, just the concept. Everything else, is disappointing.

The most annoying part I find in any story is the filler content to reach the target number of words. And this story has it as well. And a lot of it. I often times find myself skipping paragraph after paragraph of pointless explanations just to continue the story.

The next annoying part I find is this strange desire of the author to explain every action the protagonist does. Over and over and over again. For one, it makes... more>> me feel as if the author thinks the reader is an idiot that needs to be explained what is happening. Second, it breaks the story flow.

The next annoying part is that the protagonist lacks integrity. If I would have to compare the protagonist with something, he would be the same as a leaf in the wind. No purpose, no direction, goes with the flow and barely shows any intention of planning ahead.

Next are the characters. Shallow. That's what they are. They can simply be characterised by one trait, worship, filial piety, dedication, blind love, family love, glutton, and others. Do not expect any complexity added to them as the author just focuses on these traits and nothing more. He even emphasises this even further through the pointless explanations.

Next, as someone who has connections to the top powers of the world they created, the resources he can gain access to, the author does a disappointing job in using them. There is an attempt once during the story, but it was only done for short sighted reasons. Not only that, as the story continues, certain characters and elements are ignored, forgotten to be used once again.

Lastly, the author tries to do a mix of everything (e.g. Slice of life, power up, action etc.) and fails at it. It shows that the author struggles with maintaining a concept and tries to delude the reader until the transition to the next 'significant' event. It seems that the author does not understand that certain elements do not match together (e.g. Slice of life vs power up journey), no matter how much he tries to.

The second thing I like about the story is the nickname for the protagonist: Onigiri-man. It's funny when used in certain situations.

Summary

    • Concept +5 stars
    • Too much filler -1 star
    • Pointless explanations -1 star
    • Useless protagonist. Can't connect to any character -1 star
    • Shallow characters -1 star
    • Poor use of resources -1 star
    • Failed attempt at implementing different elements -1 star
    • Love the nickname: Onigiri-man +1 star
Outcome: 0 stars (However, the lowest is 1 star on this platform).

PS: Don't even attempt to read the manga adaptation. It is even worse than the novel, not only the story, but also the art. <<less

Honestly I was skeptical because of the bad reviews, but after reading 30 chapters I found out its really a fun read! It's got a fresh take on things. Personally my favorite novels are ones like 'traveling between worlds using space time magic', 'after Leveling up in another world I became peerless in the real world', & 'shinka no mi'. So this is right up my alley. Although the translation is a bit wonky at times, it's not difficult to get into the story. If love to see this become... more>> a manga, the authors descriptions of the characters need a little polishing and that would do it. <<less

I really like it so far and its a shame that it’s only in the thirties

i only wish that there was more worldbuilding like in ‘low dimensional game’ or ‘world keeper’

Still, im interested to see how things go with the shimigami girl, dragon god, and world tree

however, stories like this can easily go south if the writer isn’t carful.

1. I think the idea of his power become relevant in "Real" world and even mingling with the people in it is a bad idea, theres couple novel also use this kind of plot and it become the most uninteresting part of it

2. the MC follow the usual beta cuck japanese troop, usually I dont mind it, but man... this guy super iritating, not only he just let them pushed him... more>> around, but the unecesaary monologue is just too much
