Don't be fooled by the prologue of the mmm story, the MC is a spineless coward that bends and bows to pressure, and who acts like as if he is some hot sh*t when he is getting the crap beaten out of him.

Most of the supporting cast are boring, and some of them really need a beating, but don't expect the MC to do it, all he will do is act mysteriously while smirking and smoking, as if ln everything is going according to some plan

Its good and all.

But sadly, with how this novel goes *politics chatters, schemes chatters, planning chatters, literally just talking for 90% of the time* I doubt we would see more of Isaac 'revenge play' in the near future, considering *well like most good web novels out there* the rate of the update, I think I gonna put this one in my 'stockpile for 2-5 years' list, and read later to see if there is any major developments. :D

I really couldn't stand it. It wasn't worth the time and I wanted to skip every part. He is just a lazy brat who doesn't do anything. And doesn't have any talent. The story has sooo many loopholes and the MC is really frustrating. And with what I saw, it seems there won't be any kinds of level up or power ups. Since he has no talents for magic or sword. I'm dropping this off

This is a story about a crazy insane psycho who does makes mistakes and goof ups but is always being preyed upon by those in power to make

him a tool. If you have any of the previous sentence leave now.

Lets start with what readers who hated the novel found flawed:

    • The world is full of holes in the early building where they depict it as being extremely meritocratic
Spoiler

You gotta read forward to understand, its actually that this is what is shown to public for past 300 years. Its from this period that they came into contact with earth and started a war, so copying earth their technology and culture moved forward leaps and bounds. To adapt to this hyper change and to keep the war a secret from public, the weird meritocratic system mixed with hereditary monarchy was set by those in power. In this 300 yr period anyone born considers these weird facts to be commonsense and whoever doesn't is either already in the know/ recruited / erased.

[collapse]

    • MC is weak af, no op magic skills to throw away enemies nor super sword skills to cut through mountains.
Spoiler

NGL its true, but that of itself is a charm. How many novels have people who can truly act crazy without being op? And in that regard another aspect that shines is his utter disregard for morals, ethics and his life itself that allows him to act as he pleases without a care in the world

[collapse]

    • MC makes ton of mistakes and idiotic choices.
Spoiler

tbh am used to MCs who make perfect choices that it feels idiotic when MC here messes up. Ig its done by author to

1. Make him seem more human, as his atrocities, apathy and thought process can make ppl feel distant.

2. To show he ain't a op or have absurd skills, that he's just a psychotic normal person who has a lot of experience in war and human psychology and no other specialization

3. Links in the story, if he doesn't show an opening for his enemies to strike they won't and story won't progress

[collapse]

    • Useless back stories of mc
Spoiler

this is definitely a huge spoiler

If you pay proper attention to the actual world scenario and stuff about the war that MC tells other than the fighting details, then you'll realize it explains stuff that is said on queen's side

[collapse]

    • Annoying Duke's daughter.
Spoiler

Rivelia is spoil meant to highlight MC better. She plays the typical role of a rich and sheltered person who has everything in life and wants to play hero of justice. Her lack of political education adds to it. She's highly judgemental that the weak must always be helped and that those in power are always working to better society. Her lack of accepting mc's words is denial at reality and trying desperately to hold on to her colored outlook on life

[collapse]

Now to the points I found bad on this novel:

    • They keep MC alive, this is my biggest issue and the most confusing part of the novel, they know how dangerous and insane he is yet don't ever take the chance to kill him once and for all by forcing him in a situation where his 'i will take everyone ' threat won't work.
    • Spoiler

Director of surveillance's support for MC, its the most absurd and reasonless one so far, its like keeping a ticking timebomb for no reason

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

author forgets the stuff he puts earlier/doesn't explain how/dumb illogic parts, he shows a bomb stuck between 0 and 1 countdown and says stuff from that world will not work correctly here, he never explains why in the bomb's case or somehow forgets it exists when the tons of stuff brought from other world are shown later and yet none have issues. Then there's one where MC finds a warehouse near the gate with stuff brought and thinks its a secret exchange for mana crystals by insiders but forgets the SUPER ISSUE OF WHY ITS STILL THERE AND NOT CLAIMED BY THE INSIDER IF THEY WERE EXHANGED

      [collapse]
    • Everyone be like 'MC is dangerous, lets limit what work we give him bcuz of his absurd behavior' then again go like 'lets mess with him/try to fk around with him instead'.
    • MC almost has no allies at all, almost everyone has their agendas and are using MC for it.
Now the good parts:

    • MC is batsh*t crazy and will always pull absurd stunts.
    • The cruelty and evils of society are displayed fully.
    • MC doesn't spare his methods, ethics, morals and laws, to hell with those
    • author has gone deep in psychology and mental battles
    • MC is weak af and still crazy, a combo hard to keep.
    • the plot and teams keep switching and changing dynamically, the twists and turns, make it hard to predict
    • There's no good team/ perfect allies

This novel is straight on sexiest

Women become dumb as soon as beauty products are bought up? They can't live without makeup? These successful women with promised future and fame are only interested in seducing men?.

I somewhat liked the prologue but the academy arc was just disgusting. I know this is fantasy and it's bond to have a harm but this is too dumb to read.

"Yay I acquired waifus by giving them food and not having a meaningful conversation with any of them" type of thing.

You want an edgy, cynical, and partially suicidal MC? Ding ding ding! This is it!

The guy is named the terrorist! Guys c'mon! You want him to be productive? Nope ain't gonna happen.

MC is a soldier not a general.. He isn't the most clever but the sneakiest and quite shameless too btw with alot of experience.. In a world full of chivalry and nobles that care about appearances he uses methods that they'd never dare to attempt or think someone would. That's why our MC wins. (First half of the story)... more>>

But wow things just start to get serious now, alot of plot holes get solved by time so be patient ppl

I personally like such MCs I have big crush on this insane guy ♡ <<less

If I am to give this novel a title, it would be "Crazy Pawn" which is rather similar to Joon-young's title on earth which is Crazy Terrorist.

Isaac is a typical soldier who is dulled by betrayals and war. It's pretty realistic to me on how a soldier like him would want a lazy life. He treated the new world as a vacation world but for reasons to be revealed at the later parts, he never got the retirement he wanted. Not all transmigrators have to be ambitious.

Disregard reviews for the... more>> first 60 or so chapters stating that the politics is childish. On the later chapters (around 70 - 90), we see the deeper meanings of these actions. And what was revealed are just the tip of an iceberg. There are many more to be unveiled. I'm not a politics expert and there are holes here and there. But it's so much better than most transmigration novels I've read.

By chapter 97, I only have a few inklings on why the powerhouses or the world are out to use Isaac.

He's lazy but he doesn't want to be manipulated and discarded after he's been used to the fullest. That's because of his past life. And that's also the reason why he takes down his laziness from time to time. It's pretty good since there's a limit on how lazy a person could be.

Some might say that he's s*upid for not actively looking for answers for all the questionable things happening to him. However, Isaac knows that "Ignorance is bliss" at times. The more you know, the more you would want to know. And as a pawn, there's a limit on what information he could get so why waste effort?

He is not OP, he is just crazy. Just because he was a soldier doesn't mean he knows the military like the back of his hand (like how other transmigration stories portray people). His knowledge has limitations. He is not the smartest MC but the perk he has is that he doesn't trust people from the other world. And he's right to do so, so far.

Isaac has no friends so far. This is the only transmigration novel that I've read which grasped the psychology of humans aside from Princess Medical Doctor. But this novel definitely is at a higher level when it comes to realism on that part.

This is not the most exciting novels because there is no camaraderie. Just profits. But that's the charm of this novel.

Plus I want to commend the translators, editors and proof readers. I got to appreciate this novel better because of their notes which explains the working of things on the level that's just needed. They don't comment unnecessarily. <<less

Everybody gangsta until Isaac rolls in.

This novel, relative to most other Asian novels, is phenomenal.

The concept itself may not be enough to make this novel #1, but the writing itself makes this worth reading.

... more>> What do I mean?

The paragraphs aren't full of redundancies in an attempt to increase word count and the plot moves forward at a steady pace, skimming over things that should be skimmed, while not speeding through events to the point where you stop caring about what is happening.

I highly recommend this novel

Although keep in mind that this is not a novel about the smartest character or the strongest character.

Spoiler

To address the other reviews. Its not that the other characters are s*upid. Its that the MC's head is f***** up to the point where he will go further past morality for a solution than most others would dare think about. Its disappointing that I even have to have this in here due to certain reviewers trying to act like this novel is dumb when they didn't even realize why the MC triumphs over others in the first place. Also on the topic of misunderstandings, its sad that people mistake the MC for being the type that "wants to die" rather than the type that "doesn't mind dying" and go on to complain that the novel doesn't make sense as the MC keeps "trying to live."

[collapse]

This is a story about a soldier with a screw loose in his head from war, being transmigrated into another world that... (Story spoiler)

Spoiler

has already killed off hundreds of other transmigraters

[collapse]

... and mentally crushing whoever messes with him by weaponizing psychology rather than using martial/magical might. Ironically,
Spoiler

this last point is the reason why people keep messing with him and won't let him live the quiet life that he wants (Due to the second spoiler). Vicious cycle much?

[collapse]

Not sure why this review keeps getting cut off when ending with a spoiler...

So I'll add this:

Romance: At this point in time there is no harem. There is no romance. There are multiple potential relationships, but we're not there (yet). <<less

There was one depressing twist but its actually an original well thought development, the MC isn't smart nor s*upid, didn't fear death nor suicidal, he tries to survive as much as he can. He's not arrogantly impulsive so he never bites more he can chew unlike most MCs that irritated me up until now with their plot armors, he schemes his way out of trouble taking advantage of his situation. What ruined this novel for me is that it has an unnecessarily complex plot that the story becomes kind meaningless,... more>> the more you know about it. <<less

Hunnng. I can't... resist... the teddy bear. Definitely worth following just for the teddy bear. The cute teddy bear will bless you.

Enough with that rambling. There is no OP MC, no magic and sword for him either. A story about a transmigrating crazy Korean soldier with a questionable ending for Korean peninsular combine with a stock template of 'a bastard child of a noble' into fantasy land. It progresses slowly with a bit of time skip but what making it intriguing is the world building. It gives an acceptable explanation... more>> for this and that with minimal plot hole which is rare on this website. <<less

This novel damn f*cking good.

I haven't laughed this much from a isekai novel not the op sh*t generic dungeoneering cringe beta MC f*cktards from other novels. MC is actually so cunning he doesnt need any swordmanship magic talent or someshit.

Dont listen to others rating this one star, they rated it one star cause they expecting some kind of otherworldly power development on this novel they have tr*sh taste. Oh ya this novel is pure comedy. One of the best novels ive read.

I can get past the edginess, the lack of detail, and the blatant plot holes, but if you make your MC a complete idiot on top of it, I can't even bother anymore. The prologue serves little to no purpose for the story other than introducing the MC in a drawn out story. The lack of world building is atrocious to say the least. But the nail in the coffin for me is the MC being far beyond one of the worst written MC's I have ever seen. He is... more>> essentially a chihuahua, all bark no bite. I've only started reading this a few days ago.

Honestly at first, it's quite a confusing story for me, but as I went and read chapter after chapter, it started to show its appeal as a good and well-translated novel. The things I didn't understand at first eventually makes more sense as the plot goes deeper, the complex relationship between the characters, and also Isaac's sarcastic personality (which I absolutely love lmao) sat quite well with me — though others may not like it. Still, it's truly worthy for a five... more>> star rating. DEFINITELY A MUST READ! <<less

Why do all politics in novels suck?

Well it's probably because it's usually tacked on, so to save time templates are inserted. Same system, conflicts and villains in EVERY SINGLE NOVEL. So imagine my surprise when I read a purely political novel and it turns out great.

The story starts slow and Isaac himself isn't too interesting, being a very passive MC. His backstory and solutions are cool but is very averse to action. Only when constantly pushed does Isaac and the story truly come alive. This story is an allegory to... more>> the biblical story of Ishmael, Isaac is constantly being lead like a lamb to slaughter only to violently refuse and resist fate.

It definitely isn't for everyone but those that can get past it's slower beginnings are in for the time of your life.

Personal thoughts:

Spoiler

So when the big twist happened, I HATED it. I actually wanted to stop reading right there but continued because the characters were so entertaining.

I felt blueballed when this psycho specializing in terrorism finally broke while in possession of a extremely dangerous weapon. Then not 10 chapters later he is captured, followed up on an exposition dump of unrelated information and he is back to his usual.

I fully understand he is biding his time but I would be lying if I wasn't upset. Also all that expo was just to introduce technology and future villains. They then reverted back to the standard formula (i.e. Self-contained) for the next 2 conflicts.

Strategies start small. But they grow big and complicated as the opponents grow fiercer.

Plot that takes care not leave any plot holes.

Charcters are all over the scale. Some are truly bad, some are truly good almost naive. But this one has characters that are truly neutral almost inconsiderate to others.

Main lead ISAAC, I don't know how it ends for him but I won't be able to forget that character.

Isaac would have been a much more welcoming novel if it had more depth, characterization, and worldbuilding. A novel that combines comedy, some psychological warfare, and interesting overarching story sounds promising, but in the end, it's also hard to manage.

The novel just lacks detail. I think that the author was trying have a delicate balance of "kind of ridiculous plot" but also "barely believable." It's a good idea, and a nice way to have a decent comedy novel out of it, but he fails just out of failing to implement... more>> the details needed for this concept to work. On one hand, you have Isaac, the ridiculous MC that performs seemingly nonsensical actions that end up being good decisions in the end, albeit with some extreme ends. He utilizes his street smarts, knowledge from his previous world, and unique personality to build the foundations of the novel. The problem is that the plot is not believable at all, instead of the "barely believable" part. And the main issue is lack of characterization and detail to the ideas that Isaac implements. It's great that we get to see how he handles his startup for his ideas, but the foundation for these ideas don't go very far. He thinks of an idea, and manages to profit off it without much backstory, and he always manages to get the support he needs to go through with his ridiculous endeavors without going into how, and he also manages to always salvage the situations without much thought.

That's the problem. Characters kind of just go with the flow of Isaac's plans, and they're kind of spineless even though they're in a much better position that Isaac ever was. Sure, some of this can be resolved with convenient plot armor placed throughout the novel, one of them is a spoiler, but the other is his identity as an important person and the consequences of dealing with someone of his identity. This is good and all, but the way Isaac uses his cards is simple minded at best, and I just can't see why the novel developed to this way other than the fact that the author can't actually handle complicated plot arcs. And don't get me started with the characters that randomly befriend him. There are a few of his friends that he makes that actually make sense, but for the most part, random people seem to be helping him out due to their friendship after some s*upid encounter to progress plot. Plus, there is little development in these characters, and a lot of the times, if they're not needed, they will be thrown away until they're needed again to provide support for Isaac. As a result, characters seem a little stale, and that's entirely due to the novel's focus on plot, but when the plot is bad, then it's irredeemable.

There's a complete lack of thought put into the story when you consider Isaac's plans, and the idea that characters can easily deal with Isaac is thrown out the window due to the ridiculous plot devices and armor that he can employ. While I don't mind reading these sort of ridiculous novels, and there are definitely examples of these types of novels succeeding like Amagi Brilliant Park (only example I could think of on the spot), there needs to be some sort of likable characters and reasonable plot. The fact that the plot is a little too simple for the plans that Isaac concocts. It seems like Isaac just deals with his opposition's plans, and their opponents are just there to lick their own wounds in the aftermath. Isaac's actions seem to make sense and the plot seems to work out, but that's only because he manages to garner a lot of support by people of power for seemingly no reason other than plot armor, and his opponents, while not s*upid, are restricted to their actions with dealing with Isaac which again, is plot armor. I can't say reading such a simple and restrictive narrative is interesting. <<less

The same arc again and again. MC gets targeted, needs to scam someone, gets away with it. There's a shady organization that seems to rule everything behind the scene and literally anyone at any point in the story can be one of them. This sounds cool in theory, but is extremely frustrating in practice since the web just keeps growing with no sign of a payoff in sight. The only reason this isn't a 1 is because there are some funny moments due to the admittedly pretty funny MC which... more>> can serve as some entertainment. <<less

I did not hate the first few chapters because of its outlandish scenario, but the absolute cringe dialogue/monologue. The word cringe has been very, very watered down, but if you want to read actual cringe, read the first few chapters on this novel. Holy f*cking shit, I was literally laughing my ass off at how bad this author is at writing. It was so bad, forced, and try-hard that it ended up being a parody of it self. Yet, the surprising thing, is that these few chapters are actually better... more>> than the transmigration arc, so you can imagine how bad that is. Every single character is dumb. When I mean dumb, I mean not capable of logical or any sort of objective thought. This novel plays like a bad dream, where no actions make sense, and scenarios are just thrown at the MC with no explanation. The worldbuilding is terrible, and the only exposition is used to explain the one dimensional motives the other characters have. The MC's personality changes every chapter, but not in a multiple personality sort of way, but as a "what would be badass to describe the MC as this chapter?" The author try's so hard to make the MC seem cool and dark, but it comes off as forced, and he's honestly nothing more than a passive p**sy. The author constantly tells us that the MC is badass, cold, uncaring, scheming, etc, but he never does anything besides scam a few people, smirk, and complain about how hard his life is in monologues. Even if you turn your brain off and try to enjoy this, it's not possible, because there is nothing to enjoy. There is no plot, no goals, only tell and not show. Very, very bad. <<less

The plot is well thought out, the pacing is great. The characters are well defined.

Every chapter has a clear take away, unlike that disgusting novel Moon's Labyrinth which uses several chapters to reiterate the feelings of the characters to the point that it's become disgusting. Like seriously, why the hell did Wuxiaworld translate that garbage???
