Why am I reading this...?

As much as I enjoy cute slowlife ger farming stories and interstellar dramas, I hate, HATE "transmigrate to change food culture" novels.

If this society has become so dependent on tasteless nutritional mash to satisfy thier food needs to the point that they don't even know other things are edible, what makes you think their digestive system can even tolerate "normal" food? They won't have any of the enzymes needed to process fiber, fructose and such. Strong flavors would probably be quite off putting as they've literally... more>> never developed any sort of pallette.

Then there's meat. If you watch someone butcher a live animal for the first time, you're going to be squicked off eating to say the least. And all the cultural baggage that might come from killing something for food in a society that doesn't even have a concept of that? Yeah, fighting an uphill battle there.

And then we get into how human could have lost all knowledge of food in the first place. Why? It's like the most basic skill we learned to do as a society. "Hey, if I grow my own tasty berries near my house, I won't have to go look for them!"

And why is the mash tasteless? Food gives as much dopamine as s*x. And some sort of variety to our diet is a basic necessity to stave off depression. We seek out tasty new food like we seek out life itself. Even if we did develop some sort of perfect super food that replaced all "normal food" everywhere, it would not be tasteless!

AAaaaaaaaargh!!!!

Then there's the instant love mode ML who not only doesn't have a personality but also doesn't have memories, the saintess MC who looks like he's 10 but is somehow a love object, and the annoying System/neglected third wheel.

Ugh. It's only 30 chapters in, but I'm out.

I won't vote and drag down the score for my own tastes. But I'm warning you now; sacrifice braincells all ye who enter here. <<less

Am I the only one very creeped out by the fact that the main character is a 16 years old that looks like a starved 12 years old when he gets married by a full ass grown man?

I mean how often do you have to say that the MC is small, cute, and looks so young?

The ML has pedo groomer vibes and absolutely no real love for the MC, just a weird performative possessiveness that lets the MC do absolutely nothing, forbids contact with other people that even looks at... more>> MC or gods forbid try to talk with him. Also zero self control. If the MC looks like a starved 12 years old, he is certainly not ready for anything physically, like carrying a child to term.

And for those that says the MC is 16, that is not better at all. In a culture where you live to 200 without difficulties 16 is still way too young for a full adult general to marry. It's way too young in our earth where you live to 80ish. <<less

Ook so lemme talk about the good thing first. The interesting point is that someone from ancient china (-ish) transmigrated to the future. Not to mention that it's his first time seeing women, the little times he got shock from the technology and "lumps of cancerous meat at the chest" is funny. MC's characterization is done well IMO. As a traditional ger from the old world you can see how his values and opinions reflect that and that did not change despite living in an interstellar era. And, it's been... more>> a while since I last read a simple cooking novel. I missed salivating over food descriptions NOM. The whole novel is a toss between farming and cooking (and using it as business). The cooking process is detailed and there is romance *dog food* inbetween.

However the MC of this story is very naive... too naive. I do not mind the ML protecting the MC to preserve his innocence but I hope he let him learn a bit from it in order to guard from others tho. I think MC has potential for character growth if the ML isn't too overprotective. I guess there should be readers who would love a pampering and (over) protective ML. Aside from that, I am still pretty much okay with the MC. He's not annoying and thinks positively even though he grew up with a scum family. (Unfortunately, that scum family is one dimensional so I enjoy the moment where ML took time to mess them up as they deserve). I love ML's family. Kudos to the author for creating a lot of kind female relatives/in-laws that treats him well. As for the couple that took in the MC when he's just transmigrated, I don't understand why the author kept foreshadowing their story only to leave it hanging in the end? I even went to lengths to look for the author's other works about them bcos I like them so much haha. But an important thing I found out is that a couple that appeared in the last arc actually had their own story! So it's basically a cameo

Spoiler

When the ML charged to the forefront he met a prince from the opposing Galaxy/Empire and later met him again but the second time, they were with their partners and the two partners were coincidentally transmigrators. Now I want to read the story of that couple hahaha. For those who are curious it's 帝国男神饲养法则. Unfortunately, it is yet to be translated. I also found that this author gives cameo appearances of characters in her other stories too so I'm interested in checking others.

[collapse]

TDLR; The main issue is that the writing has loose ends. But if you can tolerate that, this novel is generally an okay read with interesting points here and there. The main cpl's end is satisfying tho. I like that reverse transmigrate bonus where ML faceslap mc's scum family. If you are you like tropes like food p*rn, cooking+farming business, fast development+love at first sight, smooth sailing love life, not much drama, supportive in-laws, naive shou, gong who treats everyone cold but turns dere/loving with his shou, then this is will be a nice past time. <<less

Okayish read at best. Don't go in expecting logic.

Gary Stu MC and frozen faced, emotional-towards-only-the-MC-jealous-of-even-their-child ML.

Unnecessary long descriptions of food preparation. It takes up whole chapters sometimes.

Repeated sentences of how good the MC and ML are (cute, handsome, beautiful, frozen face, etc., etc.) and how everyone else is just a foil.

Let's also forget the logic of the MC being only 16 when he tramsmigrated (ML age not given, but at least 30s with his military experiences and achievements)

Spoiler

MC and ML get married a few weeks after getting to know each other, indicating MC is just 16-17 y. O. When they get married. How do interstellar laws even allow that!?

They then rush to have a baby and ML has no self-control or self-reproach about the MC being so young!

[collapse]

Then you have the female villian who was the ML's fiancée, who had a truly miserable end. Not sad about her end, but the bit in the middle made me horrified to read. They author had such a callous attitude towards ab*se and ra*e in this books, it's disgusting.

Spoiler

Firstly, the woman was the fiancée of the ML, acknowledged by all parties (friends and family).

In some random press conference, they (ML's family) suddenly announce that she was never a real fiancée to begin with and the engagement never existed, but was a joke between the elders. WTF!!!

She goes on to marry the other villain who is on a power trip and compares himself to ML everywhere. It is his purpose in life.

He's very dissatisfied with his wife (female villian). He only married her because the ML was to marry MC.

He treated her like his personal punching bag and baby making machine. There are scenes of abuse and r*pe (granted she also physically abused her manager).

Once she failed to conceive within months of their marriage, he promptly finds another woman and divorces the female villain and publicly humiliates her.

The whole divorce scene takes place during a banquet held by the ML's family for MC. The people just watch the man (male villian) blatantly cheating, abusing and insulting his original spouse (female villian). They only point fingers and gossip, no one steps in to stop them. Once found, ML just asks body guards to throw them out after the show is done.

No one has an aota of sympathy for a woman being publicly cheated on and physically abused. They're more interested in watching a fun street play.

[collapse]

The way this woman was treated just puts me off and was the reasons I took off 1 star.

Granted she wasn't the virg*n Mary, but she didn't deserve what she had to go through.

Spoiler

When she came back home to her family after divorce, they asked her to apologise to her ex-husband and beg him to take her back. The didn't even care that their most beloved child was abused and r*ped and lived in fear every day!

They put all the faults on her! And when she refused to go back to her ex, she was kicked out of the family and a new replacement was found!

[collapse]

Final verdict: Don't bother reading it. I've wasted my time already. Don't waste yours. <<less

I really can't continue to read this anymore. I knew this should be a fluff that doesn't need much thinking, but the brain hole just too much for me.

MC was an abused teenager country bumpkin ger that transmigrated to interstellar world where there's no food culture. Then, he bound to a food system with a fluffball appearance. The system who should be more mature since MC wasn't it first nor second host is extremely childish and love to boast, thus a naive boy meets a toddler. Later MC found ML... more>> who was hurt badly, taking care of him, and ML woke up in amnesiac state. Then ML magically attracted by MC cuteness and foods.

The brain holes?

1. MC was too proficient for someone who was terribly abused.

2. The system was too useless, it doesn't even know it's own capabilities, just thinking about food and getting MC's attention all the time, a genuine brat.

3. MC should have a 10 year old boy appearance due to heavily malnourished. But somehow this fact is conveniently dismissed after ML came and attracted to MC.

4. MC has no common sense and the author protect him, duh!

Spoiler

the main food in interstellar era is nutrient powder which cost 100 points and MC sold his 20 pancakes for 5 points each, later by ML's help became 10 points each which means he only got a measly 200 points. Yet he can go shopping in supermarket, buying this and that with only those 200 points for both of them!

[collapse]

If you can ignore these, it's not that bad, just a simple very typical story of a real white lotus shou and cold gong who pamper his wife. <<less

3.5 for me. It's an ok read.

MC, an ancient ger, abused and despised by his own family, fell from a cliff, and came into an interstellar world, where's there only male and female and no 3rd gender like him.

The plot itself for how MC and ML inexplicably fall for each other at first sight is a lil bit baffling. MC is simple, he came from an era where even talking to a opposite s*x is rare and can be embarrassing, but ML being a cold person before the accident suddenly... more>> turn into a possesive and (yet) protective toward MC is a lil bit too fast even if he lost his memory.

But pass that, it's actually not bad, if you ignore some details. It's just nice that MC can meet ML and love each other, bcoz MC simple wishes included finding a husband who loves him, considering how unloved he was before. And the system elf being silly has its own charm. I don't think the simple MC can even deal with an intelligent system as he is.

In short, MC's life after falling the cliff is straight happiness. The slight drama by the "villains" actually doesn't really affect him now he has this "Chen" brand bodyguard/hubby to protect him. Like how much the world rejects him in his past, is how much the world loves him after. Or as he said, his past luck is all used to meet ML in this life.

So yes for the romance, meh for the character settings in the beginning. Plus the cubs are cute, eventho they stay little in the few chapters they were. It's not that bad for me. <<less

MC kinda gives me a white lotus vibe which I dislike.... more>>
Spoiler

ML got hurt so bad but MC feels like he doesn't want to send ML to the hospital for some reasons (Well ML is handsome and looks powerful thats why...). And considering that MC is a ger but he decides to let an unfamiliar man live with him so easily, he leaves me with a bad impression.

[collapse]

But if you don't think too much and don't dislike a naive MC, it's an okay slice of life farming in an interstellar setting novel <<less

Why are people rating this novel so low? Even their comment doesn't justify the extremely low rating for the novel. It's actually a pretty good read! The MC and ML are super adorable and likeable, their baby is also very cute and the whole plot was a feel good interstellar cooking plot. If you haven't completed reading this novel and insist on giving it a low score maybe you should have just drop the novel and not say anything. Yes maybe to some people who want more plot development this... more>> is not the novel but to any reader who likes to read fluff and just a feel good BL with cooking elements and childcare, give this novel a chance. <<less

2 stars: Translation is good, story will be hit or miss depending on your tastes and despite ticking a number of preference boxes for me, as it goes on the misses keep piling up.

A ger from an ancient times world gets isekaied (guess it's not transmigration technically because his whole physical body is transported rather than his mind taking over a different body) into a non-ger interstellar world that lacks food culture as well as literally food knowledge/awareness because, of course, everyone survives on flavorless nutrient solutions and powder, and... more>> the ger falls in mutual love with an amnesiac mecha pilot who crash lands nearby and who ends up living with him, helping him to farm and cook on their rural planet. While I liked the mixing of two different genres and the twists on them, the story itself is somewhat off-putting in some of its details, predictability, and extremely generic tropes. But if you like mindless fluff and those tropes don't bother you, you'll probably enjoy the story a lot. The translation is also good, it's clear and easy to read.

What bothered me: Mu Yan was abused by his family his entire life and by the time he transmigrates is so malnourished that even though he's 16 he looks like a 10-year-old, like, it's repeatedly emphasized how small and childlike he is due to malnutrition to the point that everyone mistakes how old he is—which is a lazy offensive description I always hate in web novels because stunted growth due to malnutrition is a really horrible thing with many severe health implications, yet has become lazy shorthand for "this character has a tragic history of being abused that results in them looking delicate and childlike for their age". Mm, no.

If it were just that one lazy shorthand, I wouldn't be bothered beyond rolling my eyes, but I ended up getting creepy pedo vibes from the gong, who is the complete and total archetype of Cold Robotic OP Military Warrior Who Is Only "Sweet" Toward His Lover and is like 7 feet tall and the Manliest of Men—and he immediately falls in love with Mu Yan whom we are repeatedly told looks like a ten-year-old child (even from the gong's POV) and they end up married after just a few weeks and Mu Yan is pregnant soon after. It's even worse because Mu Yan is an innocent country bumpkin from a poverty-stricken background who was severely abused by his family (although in typical hand-waving fashion he's pretty untraumatized by the abuse) and although the gong Mu Chen has amnesia, he's controlling and possessive of Mu Yan and clearly used to a position of power and authority as he dominates Mu Yan's life. Naturally his controlling, possessive nature are styled as "love" and "caring", and his jealousy as "romantic". I can usually ignore or get over that with this gong type but he's really archetypical and coupled with the pedo vibes, it's even worse.

As the story progresses, the gong gets more and more controlling of the shou, often forbidding him from doing basic work and insisting on doing things himself and scolding the shou for doing things on his own, and while that's generic gong behavior, how often his behavior crops up and gets worse seems worse than generic—he wants to keep Mu Yan to himself to the point that he often ends up restricting him in the name of love, like, if this were written from a different POV with the same details this would be an abuse novel featuring a toxic romance and he'd be a yandere except he's not sweet-seeming enough for a yandere. It gets even worse when Mu Yan becomes pregnant, especially because gers and male pregnancy are unknown in this world. There is (thankfully) a huge time skip though so we don't have to endure even longer chapters of Mu Chen's obsessive smothering for the whole pregnancy since it pretty much skips from the shock of discovering pregnancy to giving birth.

And then there's the trope that I really, really hate in mpreg/childcare novels: The gong being jealous of his own infant child taking up his partner's attention and generally loving his own child less because he sees said child as a rival for his partner's affection. GTFO.

The pregnancy also had a weird reveal that came out of left field since it was never before mentioned as part of the world (and also in the spoiler tag is more detail about what a horrible, horrible father Mu Chen is) :

Spoiler

This isn't just an interstellar story, it's an interstellar beastman/therian story! Not everyone is a beastman but there are rare bloodlines/individuals who are "orcs" that are born in animal forms and can turn into humans once they turn a year old, and can later learn to swap between human and animal forms. Mu Yan knew none of this and was shocked when he gave birth to a tiger cub, and I too knew none of this and was shocked when he gave birth to a tiger cub. Everyone else involved with the delivery was all joyful smiles though since orcs are common knowledge although rare in reality, and Mu Chen thought it was totally normal because I guess despite having amnesia he knew he either had orc blood or was an orc himself? I dunno. It's not clear at this point (ch 90) if Mu Chen has an animal form.

Mu Chen is a horrible dad though and a disciplinarian who, after his one-month-old infant son tries to crawl toward the kitchen because he's hungry while his parents are minding the store, spanks the baby and threatens him by telling him that if he doesn't eat "on time" from now on, he'll just have to go hungry because he won't be fed after mealtimes anymore, because he doesn't want his son to get used to getting his own way. WTF.

And then when Mu Yan tries to take the baby out for a walk to stop him from annoying Mu Chen, Mu Chen grabs Mu Yan and says, "Have you forgotten your husband now that you have a son?" (ch 90).

Gross, Mu Chen. GROSS.

Just as gross, a couple paragraphs down, Mu Yan thinks this: "Mu Yan was plainly aware of the problem [of Mu Chen being a jealous ****], but his son was only a month old and still a baby. He'd have no choice but to wrong his husband because he was so preoccupied with Qiuqiu." This comes after a previous scene where Mu Chen pointedly wanted to have s*x because they hadn't been able to really do it while Mu Yan was pregnant, and he basically tells Mu Yan to hurry up and recover already because he wants to get it on. What a loving and considerate partner he is to Mu Yan, a teenager who looks like a 10-year-old due to malnutrition who just gave birth to their first child.

Some of this can be explained that Mu Yan has a very old-fashioned attitude and understanding of marriage which was focused on a lot in the beginning of the story, where the husband is basically god and the wife must worship and obey him, but the rest of it feels like more of Mu Chen's being ab*sively controlling and isolationist and conditioning Mu Yan to put him above all other things—even though I'm sure this is supposed to be portrayed as romantic so naturally Mu Yan reveres Mu Chen as #1.

The interstellar future, for all that it's painted as socially advanced and diverse with things like same-s*x marriage being totally fine, sure is heavy on good old-fashioned sexism and rigid gender roles.

[collapse]

Mu Yan finds himself bound to a food system after transmigrating and the system is one of the most annoying systems I've ever encountered. It takes the form of a gluttonous flying fluffy little animal that only Mu Yan can see, and its goal is food culture restoration and to eat yummy food!! Although for some reason it appears to know pretty much nothing about food. The story tries very hard to present it as cutesy comedy relief and Mu Yan's friend and confidante but I found it more and more grating as the story continued, and later in the story it seems like it disappears for whole chapters at a time as if the author forgot it existed.

The majority of the plot is very typical interstellar foodie stuff, with Mu Yan gathering heretofore unknown/unrecognized foodstuffs in the wild and cooking extremely basic dishes that are regarded with shock and obsessive reverence by the taste buds of those lucky enough to get a bite. He then of course builds his way up to a little food stall and then a full-blown store while expanding his ingredient base and cooking repertoire per system rewards and quests.

Mu Chen's amnesia and identity are presumably going to be future plot points.

This is one of those stories that I'll probably keep reading to see what happens and how much worse it gets, because I have too much morbid curiosity for my own good. <<less

3.7 in my opinion their setting.. With ger from feudal era transport to intersellar era (?) I mean he have real body so it's transport and not transmigration isn't it? Lmao ok let's continue, this setting is actually good, and have many potential to become rich, but sadly our author not executed it brightly and just put dis and dat into it.. Sometimes the logic was on but often being so off that the image is so blur, and turn to be degradation of ordinary in intersellar transmigration kind of... more>> novel, and many of important aspect such a appearance, fashion culture, lifetime, and ability to produce of our MC is being neglect, author just shot u with everything they want, I actually want to give applause to myself that I still read this until complete with mtl, ok that's the bad part.. The good one is ofc their idea to make ger form feudal era to intersellar era.. Second is our ML family, third is the cubs that's it. <<less

I read it until ch 8 now and so far it still good at least for me.

You cannot read this with common sense, I saw people commenting about enzyme in digestive system, tbh the whole thing about transmigration alone cannot be jugded by common sense, so I choose to just ignore about the digestive system of interstellar people that cannot accept "normal" food 🤷‍♀️

I also read comment about abusive behavior to a child (MC), and again I choose to ignore it because I've seen a lot of novel that has... more>> that kind of background story. I'm sorry if any of you are uncomfortable with that please just leave and dont read it.

Overall I give this 4, 3 ⭐ <<less
