I tried to endure it and keep reading. I really did, but this is ridiculous. MC know his father tested him and he has mortal roots, so why does he still want to go to test it again? Instead he gets into more trouble

Secondly, out of nowhere some old master decide to entrust his store to him because he believe the MC can save his store just by looking into his eyes. MC background was a fallen prince that turn into a crazy person for awhile and is also a... more>> beggar. Giving him 50%shares and calling him a master without even testing the MC skills or knowledge. This all happen in just 1 day the MC ended up in this world. There is a limit to plotarmor! Hope the story actually get better and have some common sense in it, because the beginning did not impress me.

There is nothing special about the MC. His personality is very boring and common. There is absolutely nothing interesting about him at all. Just your everyday average guy. He keep hoping for something better and author would just throw him something nice whatever the plot needed it.

After 200chapter is get boring. Basically the MC is a passive type of person. When someone say yes, he would too. He rarely does anything special and just go with flow. Barely ever argue and let most of the females boss him around. And somehow it always turn out well for him. Massive plotarmor. His mister nice guy act really irritate me. He always has to repay favors (when clearly he give away too much) and be like a sage. Trying to save others he only knew just for less a day, because they say a few nice words to him. He always has to explain to others if he think they misunderstood him. MC has zero caution with anything he do and the moment someone try to probe him, he spit everything out. His planning really suck and sometimes I am amaze he actually survived that long. You could say he always appear at the right moment and has amazing bullsh*t luck. <<less

For the moderately intelligent, they would quickly realize that the author has little to no idea of how pharmaceutical drugs are made in industry.

Well its usually not from plants, not really chinese plants either. Penecillin comes from fungus but somehow the MC managed to find and identify the right fungus from some unknown place and produce penecillin. I atleast expected this to be realistic based on the setting of the mc's original world.

Other than that the story seems ok. I just hope the MC stops attempting to make real medecines... more>> with an uninformed authors imagination. <<less

So far, a completely lackluster story. There's hardly any fights, and no notable cultivation differences from anyone in the story except for color flashes at the testing site. Sure the MC is still on the bottom of the totem pole, but he hasn't even seen a single technique being used, no magic treasures, no excitement over anything at all.. Just a middling novel.

This is a pretty cliche martial arts fantasy story. Everyone is arrogant and willing to kill if you look at them funny. The main character runs around without any real plans but still crushes all enemies because he's luck incarnate. Every problem is solved when he gets a cheat item, secret technique, etc. Very unrealistic and boring.

Very s*upid MC, s*upid villains, s*upid people all around. Author keeps on telling us MC is smart.
MC is tr*sh that can't cultivate, until he does and becomes the strongest ever.

MC compulsively offends everyone and survives on massive plot armor. There is actually a scene where the MC's lady liege tells him to not offend the princes they are about to meet. and he replies with "I know, obviously, you don't have to tell me that"... when he literally grievously offended 2 different princes in the past 3 days. And... more>> not for good or even mediocre reasons either, just because the princes didn't give him face (by ignoring him as if he didn't exist, and then say "why is this mortal servant talking to me?"), because he is a random mortal servant who can't even cultivate at the time.

The MC has been attached to the lady liege as she goes to the testing ground for sect recruitment as thanks for him helping her find some herb she can then gift to someone important (MC joined her expedition into the danger zone to find it). Well, one of her guards shows "loyalty" to the MC by telling this important person "she is lying, she didn't find this herb, the MC found the herb and gave it to her". She fires said idiot guard and he is given a beating. MC is angry at such an evil act when in fact that guard got off very lightly for his s*upidity.

The author also keeps on harping at how s*upid real medicine is, and the glory that is chinese traditional (fake) medicine. He is also hilarious ignorant, thinking penicillin is produced from various herbs via alchemy.

Timing don't make sense MC is chasing to rescue a girl that disappeared into a death zone months or years ago, stumbles across her just as she is about to die and he can save her... repeatedly. Then later after years of timeskip MC shows up just in the right second (literally) to save friends/girl/innocents that have not seen him in years, repeatedly

Oddly enough I am finding it readable. So I am giving it a 3 instead of a 1 despite its many many flaws. <<less

There is a Chinese proverb whose gist is "if you don't seek death, you will not die".

MC is a whiny bit*h with hero complex who keeps thinking "i was great scientist, why should I respect/care about.... ", he keeps provoking people for no reason and when he suffers from the retaliation he makes bull sh*t reason like I need strength or ungrateful or other sh!t, he wants to be safe but isn't able to because he keeps making new enemies and riling up the existing ones.

he becomes brain dead when... more>> it comes to women and any beautiful women in the world deserves to be with him only and strives towards that goal.

I rated this novel 3.5 stars. In fact I would really like to rate this 4 stars but the attitude of the MC ruined this. Man, the MC here was an advocate of a term 'equality' in status. Really? Equality? In a world that law of the jungle prevails and you seek equality? Man, even here in Earth, it was already hard to maintain the equality here.

Second, the MC for me was narrow-minded and a rash person. You could already see it in the first tens of chapters. Like when... more>> he started to create the penicillin without even considering the consequences, and the way he was too arrogant to the others with social status even though he already knew that there was already an assassin tailing behind him. Really? Is that a cautiousness for you? And the reason that he was arrogant? Because he was a top botanist in his past life in other world. Seriously? You became so arrogant because you are a top botanist in your past life even though you did not even have strength and status in your current life!

Man, yeah I just read a few tens of chapters of this novel, but I would still write this review. Because man, Im sure that there was already no character development here because the MC here was already matured because it was already his second life.

Edit: Okay I already stop reading this. And I also want to rate this novel 2 stars. The MC just want to offend many people. Man, really? He just opened his first meridian and his status was basically a servant right now and he just go around offended many people? Seriously? Wheres the fcking cautiousness there? I think the one who tag the word 'cautious protagonist' in this novel did not even know what that word means. Fck this!! <<less

If this is your first 5 cultivation novels, it's epic in its own way. The ending showed us the author's abilities, not a decent one.

If you've read many cultivation novels before, this has a lot of fillers and plot repetition. In fact, this can be shortened to only half of the 1230 chapters as the ending is pretty much showed that the author ran out of idea.

Let me first write about where this novel is good:

The first 300-600 (idk anymore) chapters are pretty good, at that time there was basically in almost all chapters the phrase "It only gets better" too read and it was true, it got better... till it got repetitive, at some point the author seemingly didn't bother to try a new plot and recycled the same plots over and over again, that did continue till the last or second last story arc.

Still, the story was not boring, but you will feel annoyed... more>> about some decisions and how the MC seemingly couldn't learn about his mistakes and do them again and again but each time it was said "he got smarter" or so

Now to the bad parts:
In my opinion there are almost no storylines which got completed, they always got interrupted by some sudden black hole and warping the MC elsewhere.
The worst part is the "open-end" which is basically the author not having fun with his novel anymore and dropping it. Saying that the ending is rushed is an extrem understatement. Right before the end where many things which basically said "here comes a new plot". And then suddenly the last chapter which you could think of like the following:
You watch a series, there is a sudden mayor development in the story but the episode is at the end with all signs shouting "to be continued".... aaaannd the series got dropped.

Rival:
Spoiler

Lets talk about the mayor rival/enemy of the MC, he was almost everywhere where the MC did go, sometimes they would miss each other, sometimes they would meet and fight, sometimes he was stronger, sometimes the MC was stronger. At some point the MC got way stronger than him but did not kill him. At the end (last story arc) he randomly got where the MC was attacked and attacked too, then, also randomly friends of the MC got there and helped the MC. Suddenly the MC becomes strong enough to kill almost all enemies there, including the Rival which had no chance

[collapse]

Romance:
Spoiler

Romance 1:

Spoiler

The romance between the MC and his dao companion was not bad at the beginning, they helped each other out as fellow disciples of the same sect, ofc the MC got an enemy, which was some h**ny dude saying she belongs to him etc. When the romance between MC and his dao companion really began it was kind of innocent, they helped each other while exploring, both began to feel something for each other but did not say anything, MC saved her live and so on. Later the MC was almost killed but she used her live to save him and her last words where "I love you". Later the MC revived her by saving her soul and putting it back into her body but one of the many black holes brought the MC elsewhere and they never saw each other again till really really short before the end.
But you could say they where no pair of lovers since they only said they are husband and wife but that was all there is too. When they first said it, it was only to protect her so that another random h**ny rich guy can't coerce her sect into forcing her to marry him (becoming his plaything).

[collapse]

Romance 2:

Spoiler

The second girl was saved by the MC again and again. After he saved her the second time she fell in love with him. After the third time even more. The fourth or fith time was when she was basically like "f*ck me or I kill myself.". So the MC did "cheat" on his first "dao companion" and they had s*x, which was at max 50 chapters from the end.

[collapse]

"Harem":

Spoiler

As always the MC did "collect" many many women which fell in love with him but was "too s*upid" to notice it. Here I only mean the women which whom he was friends.

[collapse]
[collapse]

How he choses his friends:
Spoiler

MC did chose his friends that way:
he randomly did offend some mayor power, if his friend candidate is near but does not help MC against mayor power, candidate is not worthy of being friends with. That way he did "test" a few people at some point it happened successively.

[collapse]

Short:
Not a bad read but not one of the best out there. Read it if you got too much free time^^ <<less

This is a good reincarnation story.

I would say that the first 800 chapters are good.

But the amount of loose ends for certain characters is just too high.

... more>> It becomes ridiculous by the c1000s.

The MC for me remains one of the best MC. Very relatable and modest in his Dao. Unlike what reviewers say he isnt looking for problems but acting in accordance to de mindset of his dao.

In fact it is how rotten the higher spheres of cultivation in each realm are which is annoying for example Cough cough heaven beyond, god domain. And morons who will go and extenguish life to obtain a treasures.

Overall it is better than those overated cultivation novels when it comes to reincarnated individuals. <<less

Before I go into my in-depth review of this novel, I'll urge you to not to be dissuaded by its low ratings.

To start off, the initial chapters are bad, like terrible. Not only you'll find almost every overused cliche in these chapters, the execution itself feels rushed. It's like the author was in a hurry to be over with the premise and move on to cool stuff. I almost dropped this series when after enduring once cliche after another, ... more>>

Mc's servant who was his only known relative at the time and the only reason I kept reading randomly got taken away from him due to her talent

[collapse]
. Perhaps I was really bored that time, but I decided to stick around for a few more chapters, and I'm glad I did.

The first few chapters are probably the reason for the low ratings. But once you get past them, the story does get better, a lot better.

Pros: 1) The plot armor is not ridiculous. MC doesn't instantly become all-powerful and remains an underdog for a good while before gaining his footing.

2) Some foreshadowing to keep things interesting, though the execution could have been better.

3) The story leans more on adventure side than thrashing arrogant young masters

4) Females aren't all jade-like, voluptuous figures and are portrayed as actual people.

5) Cultivation, though not anything unique, is interesting and easy to follow along.

Cons: 1) Low on satisfaction. Like I said before, there is some foreshadowing and a few intriguing mysteries in the story, but the conclusions they are given isn't that satisfying.

2) MC is alright, but hardly noteworthy.

3) Romance. I usually don't expect have high expectations regarding romance in these type of web novels. But I was still really annoyed by the one in this novel. It actually first raised my expectations then mercilessly crushed it. The relationship between MC and his potential lover was slowly but surely developing; you could actually feel their relationship progressing, but then the author decided to

Spoiler

kill her off

[collapse]
.

Moreover, to top it off, I feel as though MC's servant, whom he'd treated as a little sister, will be a potential candidate in future. I hope that isn't the case. I would rather have no romance than with his sister like figure.

All in all, you won't find the exceptional world building of Ergen, storytelling of IET, or fleshed out characters of TJSS, but it's still a better story than 90% of other stories which are repetitive and heavily rely on shock reaction. <<less

Immortal Mortal truely fits its title. Unlike most CN which focuses on cultivation, Mo Wuji is very close to what a "mortal" is. Unlike other novels, this novel does not present an exagerated leap of strenght, an epic showdown of annihilating clans, an extremely smart MC who creates upsets at every turn, but displays a mortal trying to claw himself in an Immortal world.

As a novel it doesn't fly along the high action packed and crazy killing sprees of ATG, MTG. Nor does it offer the extreme wit and intellect... more>> of WMW, TGR, Spirit Realm. It floats in the "averageness." but this state of "average" is what drew me to get hooked to it.

Edit: Well I made the above comment a wee-bit too early. I didn't expect that a few chapters pass 150 his cultivation skyrocketed. However, I still stand by my observations. This is an "average" amongst dragons. But definitely worth the read. <<less

  • There's no NTR in this and there's only one female lead.
  • The story is somewhat a parody of the wuxia novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils written by Jin Yong.
  • This novel's pace is similar to Strongest Abandoned Son but much better without a harem.
  • In a scale of 1 to 5 of Goose Five's best novels, this one scored 4/5, SAS 3.5/5, and GOGF 2/5.

Why are there so many 1 or 2 star ratings? I noticed that 90% of them are from people who read the first 20 chapters or so. I feel like it should be a minimum of 200 chapters before any sort of review. I rated it five stars first because I rated it as 4.5 in my opinion, second reason is because of ret*rds reviewing way too early on. I highly recommend this novel, only thing I don't like about it is the MC is growing in power to quickly.

People say, "Oh, it's like Gate of Good Fortune." and give it a bad review without really giving the story a chance. Problem is that their understanding of GoGF is often awful as well. If you haven't actually read GoGF then you should stop writing rumors about it. There is no harem in GoGF and none of the MC's female friends have gotten r*ped. There are some people getting cheated on/NTR'd but it's not the MC nor are they characters we know. GoGF is by no means a perfect story... more>> but it's certainly better than the average I've read here.

As for Immortal Mortal. This is also a rather good story. It's cliche? What cultivation story isn't filled with cliches? That's like complaining about there being some plot armor. It's reasonably unique and this is one of the more unpredictable authors in the genre in my opinion. The MC's growth is very slow at first. The author takes his time to set up everything properly and you feel like the MC has to really earn his OPness. Since his foundation has pretty much been set his training speed has been rapidly catching up with his peers so he no longer seems weak.

The MC has a consistent personality and you often know how he's going to respond to provocations and favors. He'll immediately pay you back if he can but has no problem waiting years for revenge either. The story focuses much more on friendships than romance for those interested in such things. He becomes friends with both men and women in good numbers so you don't really get that pseudo harem feel.

All in all it's not a perfect story but there are no huge negatives for me. I'll probably be following it to the end as I trust this author's work to be of a certain quality. <<less

Boy with bad cultivation talent uses alchemy and alternative cultivation path to survive and grow. The first 80 chapters that have been translated so far have this nice atmosphere, where MC is very weak and vulnerable and has to thread very carefully, hiding his talents, to avoid attention from powers that would want to kill or ens*ave him.

It looks very nice so far and the scenery changes so often you feel you have read more chapters than you actually did. Really looking forward to see what his fighting style will... more>> be like. <<less

to the point where I actually flipped back through the story because I was positive I'd already read that chapter before and there it was word for word (don't know if that was the author being lazy or a translator mistake mixing up the chapters).

[collapse]
the author is also inconsistent and forgets what they have already written on several occasions, leading to repeat scenes.

the biology/science thing was interesting but it's not long before it devolves into regular alchemy just like all the rest. there are interesting moments in the story itself, followed by long arcs that repeat themselves with minimal changes. it's very predictable.

Spoiler

MC is considered tr*sh, he offends someone and almost dies and runs, grinds cultivation, shows his greatness and face smacks a bunch of people then vanishes (is s**ked away to elsewhere), his friends/family/sect are killed because of him, he gets blamed for a lot of bad things he didn't do, comes back, runs, grinds cultivation, defeats everyone and gains back his reputation and avenges the dead then moves on to the next level. MC is tr*sh.... the only variation is sometimes he just runs and doesn't come back, leaving a huge mess behind himself.

I had a hard time liking a MC that always gets his followers and friends killed, along with 10s of thousands of innocent people. it's character growth if it happens once and he learns from his mistakes but in this novel, it happens again and again and he never learns. he gets angry and acts surprised like it's the first time his actions have led to so many people dying when it happens every time. by ch 800 I actively disliked the MC, especially because he claims to be so righteous and straightforward. sure he got pissed off after the fact but they are still all dead and half his anger is because someone dared mess with what's his and there's little genuine sorrow and remorse that they are dead.

[collapse]

that's pretty much 3/4 of the content of the story. there's some revenge subplot but that's not the main part of the story. In my opinion, this is an average story with very poor editing and a MC that started out OK but who, in the end, I disliked. if you want something better by this author I suggest reading Gate of Good Fortune instead. <<less

The Novel was fun in the beginning. Mo Wuji was someone who used tact and cunning to achieve his ends. Suddenly his personality changed, and he became an Overpowered ret*rd who killed everyone to achieve his ends.

No matter whom Mo Wuji is facing, you can be sure that Mo Wuji will win. Maybe it is because Mo Wuji is too strong, or it is because Mo Wuji has a superior skill, or it is because the world is restricting his opponent, as long as you are opposing Mo Wuji, you are dead.

If you like reading crap novels like Emperor's Domination, Against the Gods etc., then Immortal Mortal is right up your alley. If you prefer something better, then try I Shall Seal The Heavens, Death Sutra, Ze Tian Ji (Way of Choices) etc.

Theres a scene in this story that is extreme short but really explains the entire story in one go. Basically the MC and a side character go to a lecture. The side character then explains that sitting in the front row will cause young masters and higher level cultivators to attack you because of reasons (face? I really do not know). The MC laughs and immediately sits down in that section without a thought. The young masters come in and immediately start a fight to which the MC beats them bloody and threatens to do it again anytime they see him in the future. The young masters go and get higher level cultivators to kill the MC forcing him to flee for his life.

I actually wouldnt hate this scene at all but there is one glaring problem, this is a cultivation novel. The MC as a cultivator who has transcended mortality should have no problem at all with hearing a lecture from any sort of distance.

[collapse]

Simply put, this story insults the intelligence of the person who reads it. There is little to no logic behind any of the things that happen. The author will introduce large events that seem like they can heavily alter the trajectory of the MC's life and then immediately forget about them. Its almost like listening to a young child actively make up a bedtime story, just with better vocabulary.
