So, what I will give this novel as a very solid kudos, would be its balancing. Our protagonist Xiao Chen aka Ye Chen aka Purple lightning demon aka Dense-as-f*ck aka Closet Pe*vert, is op but not to the point of being untouchable.

He is not solely getting loot from the sky like other protags. He does get a lot of items but for the most part he has to earn them he isn't just getting an apple pie from nowhere all the time. People in his age group are outclassed not... more>> because he is spamming cheats, its more to do with there mindset. He was forced into a route of tempering his physical body for 15 years while everyone was training essence and leaving him in there dust. He catches up but isn't just blowing past them and going toe to toe with senior gen.

He isn't the only that dual cultivates either. Other characters have done it as well. This author does a great job of balancing out the fights. They aren't a one sided massacre, they are actually well written and methodically thought out. Similar to a manga/anime series, whose fight sequences I adore, HunterXHunter.

One bad side to it would be the realm jumping abilities. I think the author needs to amp it up a little more in the differences between each realm. If he is at the disciple level (level 2) and is going to toe-to-toe with grand masters (level 4) something isn't quite right. Maybe the author wants to establish a qualitative over quantitative perspective but the way he does it makes the cultivation levels seem like a joke. Only reason I am not singing a negative tune is because a lot of these realm jumping fights are situational and not his shoot from the hip ability. <<less

This novel needs alot of reworking if possible. There are many interesting parts which can make it a masterpiece but the flaws are great as well. The martial and immortal cultivation stages are not explained properly and many times unexplained and confusing. Many things are left as it is after introducing it. Various realms and worlds are confusing to imagine and are contradictory alot of time. The mysterious of the thousand releams could be introduced more. More than half of the story concluded in the kunlun realm which is not... more>> good as too much had been invested in the foundation.

There is one good point that I find unique and quite realistic is that the people supporting MC are left behind with world progression and not needlessly dragged along. The MC has a clearcut pride that he protects as much as possible.

If possible again I think much more refinement needs to be done to the storyline. <<less

Tbh the story is a little meh but it manages to be a nice long story without ever really being offensively bad. It's a nice story to switch off to and enjoy much like a shounen anime or similar. The main character is kinda boring but not offensively so. Overpowered but not offensively so. Whilst there is power creep the it's not too much. The cultivation ranks established at the start of the novel are still relevant 1500 chapters later so in a way it's much better balanced than a... more>> lot of novels <<less

I gave this so many chances but I finally decided to give up on it... the story is not too bad but the MC is so annoying... he has a terrible habit of underestimating the enemy and overestimating himself...

Usually I give novels the benefit of the doubt because reviewers leave reviews after reading a fraction of the novels. Today, I'm gonna be that guy because this novel is just that bad. Things didn't make sense from the get go. How is the MC fighting people major realms above him, why does the MC have to get into fights for no reason, how much more plot armor is the author gonna give the MC, and why are the antagonists so s*upid. These are some of the questions I was... more>> asking myself while reading the novel. As I kept reading, I got bored and put off reading this novel, and eventually realized that this is just a bad novel. So here is a one star from me. <<less

This story is almost really really good. As far as the genre goes it's near the top in terms of quality, but unfortunately it fails to transcend the genre's usual shortcomings.

The main character is mostly likable and interesting, and not a drag on the story. When the author decides to wax philosophical it's mostly ok, though you'll see better if you read enough of them. The other characters are what they need to be when they need to be, for the most part. The author mostly knows when to keep... more>> them in the story and when to let them go.

The biggest shortcomings of the story come near the end, which just comes a little too quickly and leaves just a few too many loose ends to be satisfying, but it's not enough to leave me with a sour taste. If you like this genre, you'll like this story. If you don't, maybe don't start with this one, and don't expect it to have cross-genre appeal. <<less

MC is a transmigrator to a new world bringing along a manual of all sorts of immortal cultivation knowledge. Apart from the convenient cheat to let him rise above others, his transmigrator status is forgotten early on by the author. He doesn't act or think like a person from Earth, making this a generic novel with nothing special about it. There's no comedy, no joy, no sadness, just a singular bland feeling for the reader.

There's your typical auction house scenes and the constant exploration of xyz forbidden grounds with different... more>> side characters each time. One especially annoying thing to me are the amount of geniuses showing up. Said genius is this and this and this specialty but gets defeated by our MC. Out pops another stronger genius, and then super genius, then super dooper genius, then holy genius, super holy genius etc. I feel like the definition of genius and peerless and unfathomable has been lost to most chinese authors.

The next thing that irks me is the cultivation levels are broken into so many micro levels. If there's a person already at the Great Perfection Emperor realm, there's actually another step after that, maybe called Super Perfection Emperor realm, then there's a Ultimate Perfection Emperor Realm. The word perfection is already at the limit yet now the limit has been exceeded, contradicting the definition of perfect. There's so many micro levels that I get lost when they mention so and so at something cultivation realm. I really don't know how much stronger that person is compared to the MC and others.

My advice is to go ahead and read it if you have nothing better to do, just don't have any high expectations. <<less

The bad thing about novels with 1k+ chapters is that their authors may always have the brightest way to f*ck it up.

We start with the character development and drama (*forced* drama) : lazy, insulting readers.

Cultivation system: equals, (=) whatever they write, what respect for your own novel, just write what you want, f*ck it up nothin' wrong with that. Progression of so and skills is just terrible *make wind go first then the weapon* so as to alert before the saber hits, nice one smartass -Fiery Moon-, good... more>> one.

Battles: it's already obvious it's bad if the cultivation system is already so bad, so only gotta say, might as well hypno yourself that there ain't cultivation but everyone's power increases with willpower, whatever you think you can do, like I can bit*h that dude that is a big level willpower user. And that's it, just the same.

Sub. Cultivation, like alchemy, crafting, bloodlines, inherited abilities or soul thingy: awful. If you thought this part could be solvable since it isn't directly related to cultivation progress, prepare to cry: it's basically nice words and cute visionary descriptions, that won't do sh*t and is tasteless as f*ck. Might as well be drunk and play w your peepee 'cuz you bored and no one can see you, and voila the whole novel's structure at its finest.

And allow me just to say, that'd be PASSABLE, if it wasn't for the huge reason that I didn't mentioned MC because Fiery Moon really THINKS he can toy and insult us with such POOR, lazy and talentless situations where MC -just cause- falls into a deep-hole that was in a naruto spin-off of 20y ago where it was only a joke, or where it suddenly appeared in the power rangers universe 'cuz he didn't see a huge spatial tear of 100km wide 500km tall while walking towards it for 55 minutes with perfect view. Oh f*ck, what a f*cking idiotic, cuck-writer author, 'm done.

-If there isn't a *Edit* note below at some point, means it remained tr*sh and I dropped without a need to update it.

[[note of why I still want to keep reading]]

Spoiler

I just realized that when MC went to get a new scabbard for his saber, the old op dude gave him an already made one, I don't remember if it was in the box that he had there (presumable the divine weapon -box-) but then I just thought while reading, oh shit... it could be! :) It ended up with a "oops! I forgot that in the ancient eras, divine weapons were made to fight fiends! you can't steal it! oops! *bonk* ;)

[collapse]

Edit*

Ok, i've arrived at 291 and I admit, it's torturous and is like Fiery Moon lost all sense of belonging to his novels, now all his characters, ofc including MC, are worst than npcs, worst worst worst.

If there is a chapter without a fight against someone he can barely deal with, is because some noble and heroic soul possessed Fiery Moon at that day and sacrificing its entire being, it wrote about other stuff. Yes, that's how it is, there is barely no single chapter where he doesn't have a complete life-and-death struggle, even worse; ever since the beginning was like that and whenever there is a good chance of drama, of plot twist of MAKING YOU FEEL YOU'RE NOT JUST READING CODES AND IS IN FACT A GOD DAMN NOVEL, nothing, it ends up bland, they're not existent they're like codes programmed, and Fiery Moon is selling it to you as the best novel with incredible sensations to make your blood boil.

One little thing, there are SIDE-characters, throwaway characters that have weaker cultivation realm than the MAIN-character, he isn't able to deal with them. Have fun, good luck.

-So, take my words seriously, but the novel itself, its skill and decency, is there. Pity. <<less

Reminds me of MGA, a lot of potential gone to waste, idk how, but both authors somehow did it, all they had to do was: to not forget certain things, not make certain things, and that's all, just go with the initial plan at a good pace without any s*upidity within but the pace always changes, too fast or too slow, certain things that are unnecessary appear, are given meaning to them and afterwards are forgotten... also author should understand that to love and protect something, they are desires too,... more>> is it wrong to desire to not want someone you love die even tho the world wants it to happen? what's wrong about it? I know author wanted to make some good ending and sh*t but was rashed, the black dragon and divine master literally died faster than any other villain, the two strongest antagonists literally died faster than even the weakest antagonist together, and afterwards spilling bullsh*t like this, Is like hearing Wang Lin after suffering so much to revive his wife and son, be like, is wrong to have desires and give up on reviving them and decide to be a mortal and die.. WTF? <<less

Translation quality is pretty good and the overall feel of the book seems decent, the one thing I cannot stand is how s*upid the MC is. This is the first time I've read about such a dumb MC.

when someone tries to kill him and he wins the battle, literally has his own blade against the enemies neck. HE DOESN'T KILL THE ENEMY, NOT O LY THAT HE DOESN'T EVEN EXTORT OR ROB THE ENEMY. H***S**T

Also the author cannot for the life of him decide on his writing style. One... more>> moment the MC is so OP he punches 1 major tier above his weight level, memorises and replicates skills after seeing them once and the next moment he forgets how to use it or some bull****

Overall 5/10 a good book to train anger management <<less

at first, I read this because I thought that the MC has a cheat like a knowledge thingy, then the fckn MC is useless, only ruthless, seeking trouble everywhere, impulsive, easily offended but offend others. yeah and plot holes. I only reached 112 and... maybe in the future

If you had a lot of time and don't have anything to read, you can read it.

Promising at start got really bored after a few hundred chapters, the elements of the novel were good but was not done good in my opinion. This does not have the worst romarce i've seen but it wasn't good either. Where I'm at now all the MC does is hide his appearance that's also annoying. Overall not the best espcially for having over 2000 chapters.

I will be a little bias on this review. When I read this novel, I still didn't discover about NU, I just saw this in someones recommendations on whatever site it was. I didn't notice the 'Harem' tag on it. I really don't like harem novels.

I enjoyed the novel (plot wise) tho. I'm not like some of the readers who easily spot plot holes and other problems in the novel. If it maintains my interest, then I like to continue reading. I stopped reading it when I caught up to... more>> the translations, but I got impatient and read some spoilers. Well, it ended up the reason on why I dropped this. (I read this on April but I wrote the review just today).

Spoiler

1. The first reason why I dropped this is because it's HAREM. It's really not my cup of tea, I prefer to read no romance than harem. I am actually very happy at first since there's no sign of harem and the romance is slow paced. The romance is just a subplot, it made a very little contribution to the main plot. Well, until my current read, he has only one love interest.

2. Based on spoilers, the author often drops plots. For example, the most interesting part for me in this novel is the 'immortal cultivation', but the author throw it away. So why would I continue reading? I think I'll just read the spoilers for the main events. But yeah, I encountered it sometimes, the sudden drop of plots.

[collapse]

All in all, until my current chapter (c1131), it's good for me. There's mystery that will pique the interest and it has enjoyable arcs, at least.

I like Chu Chaoyun. Tho from my current read, he is still a mystery. Even though he's creepy and annoying and have a villain vibe, I like him lol.

So, this novel is an easy read for me. If you're looking for a very good novel that have strong plot, or have a planned storyline, I think you may not like this much. If you're an easy reader like me who is like a spectator that only watch his adventure, then you can try it. :) <<less

Just dont reject the Novel cause of bad Review. I have read far worse Cultivation Novels where the MC has Plot Armor +999 with Luck at Max.

The MC in Dual Cultivation has a good level of Plot armor just Right he can get the things ge wants but some time he can't. Some say he has found a Martial arts trains it about 7 Days and wins against someone who trained his own Art for Years but loses, but I say and? Like in many Novels the MC isnt s*upid... more>> not slow but Talented. In Cultivation Novels what most average Cultivators need Months or Years can take Talented one Weeks. Not to say that the One the MC faught and won with the Years of training is only 16 Years old and in a Small town with a lower Martial Art then the MC.

Well just try it isn't bad. As Long the Ending isn't bad even Average Novels are good to Read if you are Bored. If it's up to your Taste/Genre. <<less

I can't, I wanted to read this and enjoy it but similar issues with other reviews. It's just bad. It's not that the author is poor at writing or the translation is tr*sh, the inconsistencies and utter nonsense of abilities or techniques is the most upsetting.

Not even going to mark spoilers because this is all first 100 chapters and for 2k novel that's barely the prologue.

MC can fight people an entire realm above him, but then when major important battle happens he's having trouble with people of the same cultivation... more>> level.

MC claims he wants to make firm foundation and thus doesn't want to advance too quickly, afterwards eats fruit jumps 2 small realms.

Biggest nonsense is his immortal techniques are too amazing but without any semblance of logic. I understand this is fantasy cultivation novel, but that doesn't mean carving tiny figurine instantly gives you bodyguard 4 big realms stronger than yourself. Same with formations chapter 80ish
Spoiler

uses his blood essence to make formation capable of killing 500+ enemies all between 1 and 3 big realms above him, really? Author can at least be semi logical and have MC buy beast cores at the Martial Saint level to be used for formation cores, that way formation killing the martial saints would have been believable

[collapse]

Chapter 40
Spoiler

Some spirit jade thing that stores spirit beasts, author initially made it out to specifically used to carry multiple spirit beasts that you didn't need to train from childhood just subdue them into entering the jade, I guess? After MC gets it he apparently can't subdue adult fox beast? No explanation given, especially when other clan had that exact motive with that exact spirit jade. Instead MC gets weak child fox, like alright? Author obviously just changed his mind about not wanting MC to get too powerful support.

The Good.

I like it because it does not really emphasize on romance and the girls are not blindly falling in love with the MC. The MC is also not a sperm head and acts pretty much like a normal human being should act when it comes to romance.

The Bad.

1: MC does almost always leaves the villains alive. He does not even cripple them or punish harshly enough. The Noble clan scions from shy dome realm almost always tried to kill him at every chance they got. He was even forced... more>> to be on the run and hide is identity because of those scions. What did the MC do to get back ? When he was forced out of hiding he just defeated them in a match which was not even life threatening to the scions and forgot about revenge after that. The same story repeats in Kunlun realm. Every other person he meets try to kill him and he just lets them go so they can scheme more and create problems throughout the story.

2: Throughout the story it just feels like the MC is not on powerful enough. At every level there are always thousands of other geniuses that are stronger, younger and have better cultivation than the MC. Author makes it seem like MC's cultivation speed is fast. But the rest of the same generation is getting strong as fast if not much faster. It is like the young generation is on steroids. The sect leader and elders of all of these scions families or sects are surpassed when these scions are in their teen years. If that was the normal cultivation speed then what was the previous generation doing when they were young ? Just does not make sense.

3: The author cannot just make up his mind and decide who is going to be the MC. The supposedly MC is almost always taken advantage of by the other mysterious character Chu Chaoyun. And this is the main reason I am dropping this Novel. I just cannot stomach this Chu Chaoyun character. <<less

No matter how low ratings are this novel is a very good one... it's not overly flashy and goes into deep problems of being a cultivators rather than just being an overpowered idiot... if readers read this to get a instant hype from overpowered MC doing face slapping then you will get disappointed... if you an veteran wuxia reader, you will find lots of plots from other series but the way authors tells the story is good one.

OK..... first 29 chapters

MC is an inconsistent moron with a lot of plot armor.

Spoiler

Finds some powerful people trespassing... what do you do when you are a couple of teenagers and you know that at least 2 of the trespassers are actually stronger than both of you... do you:

  • A - Go back to your clan (or even send one of you back) to let them know?
  • B - Follow behind them risking death without anyone even knowing what happened?

Naturally the MC chooses B because he's got all this plot armor to give him a power up....

Claims he doesn't want to get distracted by women until he's reached the pinnacle of cultivation... but he's out buying makeup for them shortly after?

Claims he needs to be low key but then decides to be the arrogant young master....

Challenges someone to a duel to the death BEFORE he has any power (or any real guarantee of getting any)

It's not a masterpiece but it's a really good novel. I really liked main character. He reminds me of Meng Hao from I shall steal the havens (beside the money obsession). It's true that at the beginning he is young and reckless and doesn't always make the right choices but later on he really matures and his character changes. The story is good, it's not repetitive like other novels and some side characters are really interesting. They don't just disappear after a few chapters. Some of them appear from first... more>> chapters to the end. Overall it's worth reading.

There is just this one thing. Author at the beginning often changes his mind about world building and forgets about some things or randomly changes them. After around 400 chapters it stops but you have to go through this to enjoy this novel (the beginning is not bad of course just sometimes confusing).

I really liked this one and I'm going to miss Xiao Chen. <<less

This novel is translated by DragonInWhite.

IMHO, he have do a fantastic translation. The word he choose, the vocab that went into it, make this novel such good literature to be read.

On the novel it self, it is a jewel. While it is not perfect; any novel written in a long period of time, influence by reader and marketability is never is. It give such fresh POV. This novel give human depth, connection and different outlook on eternal life. It give Gu Long vibe on human interaction on friendship, loves, and... more>> vicisstude of life. Our MC are not always on top, he have low point too. Thus it explain why he choose what he chose at the end of the novel.

In term of cultivation system, it also good, it get me excited and going to.

Maybe those who dont like this novel calling MC s*upid are those hooked by the generic Chinese Xianxia about being OP. But for me, the human connection to one self and others make this novel jewel. It makes MC very human. It breaks from those cliche and bring something else on the table. There is also character he meet that you get to see till the end. No throw away character too much.

On tieng up loose end in the novel, well we can used our imagination on those. Our MC journey has end, but the characters life and world do not moves around our MC, they have their own lives. So even tho it does not give conclusive ending, it give somethong for us to talk, discuss and imagine. <<less
