I think the synopsis doesn't cover it properly, but it's a complete cyberpunk setting, including dystopia, implants, androids, megacorps, and lawless wasteland zones. It's honestly surprising how much was crammed into these initial chapters. The cover art seems to have nothing to do with the novel and might just be AI generated.

I somewhat agree with the other review on that regard that it will be helpful to have read or otherwise consumed cyberpunk stories before. I don't necessarily recommend this as the first cyberpunk story to read.

The main character has... more>> a very contradictory personality. The inner monologue is very cynical and egocentric, but her actions are altruistic and humble. Despite having ability and connections to live a comfortable life, she rejects rewards from regular people she helps and lives in poverty.

While she doesn't do the public work like the official saint and has exited the church, her actions and capabilities are comparable to one, and those who interact with her also see her that way - she just doesn't see herself as a saint.

This contrast and her brash personality are a constant source of comedy.

These first chapters have been a bit hectic, but it feels like an in medias res approach to exposition. Rather than starting from zero, her past is just brought up when it's relevant, and otherwise the story progresses without major flashbacks so far.

What I like about this approach is that it actually follows the principle of "show, don't tell", and characters' personalities are introduced through their actions rather than lengthy descriptions. To some extent this leads to developments that have not been fully foreshadowed, but based on the pace of this novel they might simply be the foreshadowing for later events. It remains to be seen if these elements will be reused in the future or if the entire novel is just a string of pulling out new stuff. If it's the latter, I'll have to revise my review, but at this point I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

I've enjoyed reading these first chapters, and hopefully the rest of the story will develop in a more stable direction eventually to get a pay-off for the setup so far. <<less

The world this story’s set in is rather interesting but the writing heavily hampers the narrative.

Cyberpunk-esque terms are thrown around without explantation making the reading experience very frustrating.

The gender bender portion of the story also barely matters as the MC is already established as some excommunicated nun with surgical skills. None of this is elaborated on while the author constantly adds new characters and gangs that don’t matter after they’re taken care of by the end of a chapter/arc.
