The NEET Yamano Masaru (23 years old) went to Hello Work and found an interesting job offer. [A sword and sorcery fantasy, test play for Miniature Garden of Razgrad. Extended period of time, preferred to be able to live on site. Monthly salary of 250,000+]. He immediately went to the interview and signed a contract.

However, the place of employment is in another world. Because of the contract, he’s taken there, and in order to survive, Masaru received a cheat but is told the shocking truth.

“This world will be destroyed in 20 years.”

Funny premise, so-so execution, bad translation.

The early translation is fine, and the early chapters are fine. It devolves into yet another Isekei slice-of-life, harem building, fantasy romp. Pretty standard stuff.

There is a HUGE drop in translation quality at the start of the third volume. The translator is admittedly neither an English nor Japanese native speaker. Still, many corrections are pointed out in the comments, and then completely ignored. Names change between the early chapters and later. Honorifics go from suffixes to detached words (eg, "Name - san" with a dash,... more>> offset with spaces! So annoying). Not to mention the standard mechanical errors.

Maybe the story gets better later. Maybe the translation gets better. But for now, this middling story has become _difficult to read_, so it's a drop from me. It takes too much effort for the quality. <<less

If you have read your mainstream reincarnation/harem novels before, then you have automatically read this too. Seriously, I can say nothing remotely new about the plot except for the fact that for once a Jap's MC actually sleeps with his harem, but it develops so quickly that you probably don't feel anything over it. Although, I did like the volume 1 because the novel felt more like focusing on day to day life in the new world and MC's interaction with his harem, a more of a slice-of-life genre with... more>> bit action here and there with of course RPG elements. -But from Volume 2, the pace of the story quickly escalated. I thought that Novel would take its sweet time to slowly develop the relationships, but as soon as we enter volume 2. MC buys a s*ave, 4 women starts to live together with MC out of nowhere, so far he slept with 2 women, and let me remind you, it all happened in one single volume. Although yes, there's nothing more hateful about a dense and indecisive typical jap protagonist, but I also hate where relationships just casually develops with no sense of progression, specially when women in the novel just absurdly accepts MC's harem and sleeps with him because it is quite common in the fantasy world? Then why Author wasted so much time in the volume I by giving us any sort of character development if by the end they were just gonna act as a items to satisfy MC's lbido?, and don't you just love when in the novel there are words as breasts, fine body and everything else to describe the female who just came out of bath and how author waste so much para into describing how she smells and how beautifully she looks in her wet hair YET the s*x scenes are always one liner. Sometimes you even get confused that did the MC really sleep with her or not? It is only much later you realized that he actually slept, but you don't feel anything or any sense of development over it because it just happens like that.

-Now let's talk about our MC. He is one of the most boriest and cringey character that you will ever come across. The fact that he is actually a NEET in his original life says enough, but more than that he is a wuss and easily cries over petty stuff. There's no end to how MC is constantly afraid of taking risky quests and how he doesn't want to join that guild or other party because he is afraid that he might die EVEN THOUGH he did kill a dragon with the help of others and got the title "Dragon Slayer", but it only ended up making MC realize that how scary are quests like these. It is hard to describe the MC's personality into words, but he is like one of those internet Canadian's meme stereotypes where MC won't stop saying "Sorry Sorry" over little things or how thankful and grateful he is. He just won't stop feeling pity for random people after defeating them because he has cheats or doesn't take any darn credit over any accomplishments because you guessed it right, he has cheats. He thinks that he doesn't deserve the fame, when people who trained throughout their work so hard to reach this level where as MC just does it by cheat. I get it that Author is trying to show us how our protagonist is down to earth guy, but this is pathetic. Why give him cheats in the first place then? I would rather feel much better if MC too worked his arse off to gain the benefits. I can still somewhat accept it if MC was actually a Kid/teen, but he is an Adult who is 20+. I hate how innocent and easy going this guy is like he buys a s*ave and to train her, he just casually hands her over to guild instructor and other male trainers without even giving a second thought. There are other stuff that MC does in this novel which raises lots and lots of NTR flags like when he invites two of his male friends over his new home for a treat where all of the MC's harem members are currently living because he felt bad for his male friends that he got a s*ave where as they couldn't. You know? Your typical asinine japanese friend circle who acts like you betrayed them when you get a GF or a female friend and stuff. :- I might have forgiven this, if this novel was really old, but no this novel came out recently in 2014 and it is dull, plain and boring through and through. You would think after so many, so many reincarnation japanese novels. Authors would try something new? But nope. Although, I have to say that MC in this novel actually sleeps with his harem which is one thing that I have to give credit for. <<less

I like it a lot. Not sure about future volumes but in Volume 1, it’s really slow. However, I like it. It’s kind of like the slice of life of an adventurer. The cheat ability is actually a little similar to the one in s*ave Harem in a Labyrnth. In the s*ave Harem one, the protagonist got the ability to reset his skills without restraint. And his list of skills is much more in depth. In NEET, his list of skills is your basic list and he can only reset... more>> it once a month. However, that’s all the similarities. The whole game mechanic is different. This one is very simple. The other one is like a convoluted loophole. As for the protagonist, he’s awesome in that he is very normal. You can see and relate to his actions. What he does is kind of what any guy you see might do, more or less. It’s not “I need to make a s*ave harem and then sleep with them like crazy with my enhanced libido.” More like, “there’s a really cute girl and I want to know her more and get closer. But I’m scared she might reject me.”

As for the adventures, there aren’t much yet. I can’t say too much about it. He only grinding low mobs and a young dragon, a huge contrast. <<less

The thing that really triggered me is, MC said he is a NEET, yeah he is really lacking in social interaction that understandable, but he also really lacking knowledge about isekai sh*t and rpg in general and doesnt really interested in otherworldly stuff. I mean what is he doing as a NEET? Just furiously fapping all day long? Holyhell

The MC is useless despite having a OP Cheat.

It has too many fillers! As much as I love fillers, this is just a waste of time. I don't understand what's the point of training when he can gain skills by EXP. instead of grinding, he lives his life idly and when a disaster happens, he cries about it. (Literally) Then he becomes a Shounen-like Character, "I must get stronger to protect them." Blarg! I'm going to throw up. You have OP Cheat! It's wasted.

I honestly felt angry at the MC for doing s*upid things like actually asking Priest if the Demon King coming back. Are you serious? Of course they wouldn't know! Only you know the world is ending... This caused the Priest to find out his identity as a Hero. And convinces MC to save the world. WTF wrong with this story.

So I kept reading and reading hoping it would get better... but this story very sentences hold many contradictions. That's when I felt sick, this not a cooking or start-business novel yo. It shattered what I liked about Isekas.

Vol.1 was the best. When the MC said he wouldn't save the world I gave a thumbs up and had high anticipations of him doing something different from the typical route and befitting a Neet would do. He's not a Hero but more like a defected Hero chosen out of a whim. So it's obvious he will prove wrong the God who summoned him. But it goes the typical cliche route. What was the point of being a Neet and expert on games when he doesn't even use the Cheat properly? He whines too much of his own helplessness and very shounen like...

Romance: They fall in love too quickly. I was expecting a Tsundere to put more of a fight. It's no fun. And her reaction for the Hero she always longed for was mild.

This has many contradictions. He says he does not want to stand out in his mind.... meanwhile casting a OP spell. He says he will not involve himself unless it's to protect his 'family' but they are already involve when your saying this... It's their world after all

This is just another self wish fulfillment fantasy. Nothing makes sense and characters are everywhere... everything forced and I can no longer keep up with this.

I strongly recommend Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaa-san wa Suki desu ka? The similarities are there... with the Rings and Tsundere. I cannot spoil further. <<less

This is a nice departure from the standard "In a game world with a god-given cheat power" story without abandoning the form altogether.

The MC is powerful, but not absurdly so, and he suffers setbacks and difficulties as well as triumphs and victories. Though he has knowledge and memories from modern Japan, the most earth-shattering thing he has introduced into the world is mayonnaise. The various ladies in his life have distinct and complex personalities, and well as their own lives to pursue. And there's a ticking clock to the end... more>> of the story, but that's 20 years away, so there is ample opportunity for the MC to change and grow as a person.

It strikes a nice balance between the godlike wunderkinds of some stories and the helpless victims of others. <<less

Top ten of my most most pathetic MC thats hides behind a girl and let the girl do all the work despite having cheat skills.. Very useless MC if I say but very eager when it comes to have s*x with his friends and wants harem but when to comes to fighting even weaker than him gets scared easily and let his s*ave girl do the work or his friends that are all girls.. This novel would have been a solid isekai if not for a major flaw: the MC.

The MC is your stereotypical isekai MC except for the fact that he just happens to be the least imaginative and least motivate character in the whole novel (if you exclude the cannon fodder and the occasional braindead opponents that gets thrown at him just to show how powerful he is). He never really thinks outside of the box but instead chooses the worst routes. By all evidence, he is motivated only by his libido... more>> or his laziness yet his harem adores him.

The lack of imagination is such a glaring flaw since even when he was brought over, it's almost blatantly obvious that the god wanted him to play around with the system. Unfortunately, MC proceeds to make the worst build you can clobber together by a newbie... and never changes it even when he's given the broken option to reset his build. Instead, he doubles down, makes basically a magic thief... then proceeds to get motivated by his machismo (what little there is thats not taken up by his libido) and insist on being the tank of the party when there's others in the party better suite to tank.

Everything the MC does is half arse. He seemingly never learns from his mistakes: MC treats everything like a game, reality bit*h slaps him, he crawls into himself, his harem becomes his moms and cox him out, rinse repeat. Every major encounter, MC either comes up with a half-baked plan and/or never comes up with a backup one, proceeds to tank terribly, panics and flails around, gets saved by plot. MC should have just stayed home, exclusively do cooking and such, making this isekai a slice of life sub genre instead.

TLDR the MC is probably one of the worst example of isekai MC, those that hate isekai genre would bring him up as an example of its most egregious flaw. Seriously, probably the only thing that would have made this worst is if he was a homicidal maniac like some other MCs (okay... he actually has aspects of that too, I kid you not). Um... recommended if you can speed read through the frustrating parts. <<less

I agree with sgrey's review so let me mention what I really like and dislike in this novel.

First the likes

The story is good, quite interesting and has more room for extra content. Good natured individuals, they are quite refreshing because I just recently read antihero protagonist with many bad guys here and there. Has cute moments.

My BIG dislike in this novel is the NEET MC. He is not consistent with his thought and his personality is a BIG minus to this novel. He usually has self deprecating monologue so it's quite irritating, I mean come on get over with and do something productive rather than self loathing there. Most of the time I really want to punch that MC dozens of times or throw my tablet so that I could vent this anger within me. I was hoping for the MC to change and be a better person but I was mistaken and he really never change even after having many wife.

You know that when you see, hear or read anything about negative emotions it is contagious? In my case I feel angry that I am imagining beating the brains out of this MC that has an idiotic thoughts every volume. The most that triggers my anger is that the MC is stubborn, s*upid, child mentality despite being an adult, not flexible at thinking, not smart (well that is redundant) but that's just the MC is. No character development

So read it if you guys want to waste time but BE WARNED: you will experience anger that you will or thinking of throwing something or you will become violent when you read at around volume 3. So that's all. I will stop reading it for now cause I can't take it anymore, I will resume when I cool my head. P.S. I'm biting my nail so that I won't throw my tablet. <<less

The story is surprisingly not bad. I like the events and progression overall. What is bad in this novel are the characters.

MC is useless, spineless and s*upid. As I keep reading it I am getting the impression that MC thinks the god sent him to another world to be a farmer until the world is destroyed. He keeps whining and whining how he wants to be a farmer and to live a peaceful life. He is a walking contradiction. He doesn't want to stand out, but he keeps doing flashy... more>> stuff, he got a cheat skill but can't fight. He can use magic because the spells are basically provided for him, but when he upgrades his physical talents, he is useless. His s*ave has the same level of physical skills and she is way stronger. He says he wants to keep stuff about him a secret and then blabs about it to everyone. I had the urge to punch the screen at least twice and flip the table at least three times because of how s*upid and contradictory MC is. He is never proactive, he dreams of becoming a neet in another world as well and stuff always happens to him. If he was not forced to do stuff, he would just shut himself in the house and never leave!

Let's talk about romance for a bit. MC basically says he wants a harem right off the bet. Then, of course, he buys himself a cute girl s*ave who has a condition which he cures. Of course, she falls in love with him immediately. She started to actively go after him and invite him for the night. So what does he do? He is running around scared and screaming: "this is baaad, what do I do, she wants to get naked, aahhhh, this is sooo baaad". I mean, are you for real? Isn't that what you want? Now, he meets few other girls and they all suddenly fall in love with him for no apparent reason. He keeps running around scared and then suddenly he f*cks all of them and before you know it, they are all married. I think the time span in the novel was one month between him meeting everyone and then getting 4 wives. Moreover, when other girls confess to him too, he is also running around scared and screaming: "why is this happening, what's going on? why did she say she likes me? what did she mean? what do I do?" And that is from a guy who actually likes the other party as well and dreams about a harem. To illustrate just how bad the romance is here - tsundere! confessed!! first!!! and told him she is going to marry him and he has no right to refuse!!!

Overall all characters are one dimensional. There are no character development of any kind. Ther is a minimum backstory given to each one, and they stay exactly the same as when they were first introduced. That includes MC as well. All characters get one trait and that trait gets emphasized all the time.

Overall story progression... every arc volume is structured so you get about 60-70% of idiotic meaningless stuff and then during the last 30% of the volume something interesting would be happening. However, the aftermath would generally be described in the next volume. I do like the actual story, it would be way more interesting if not for the moronic MC and one-dimensional characters. Honestly, MC just makes the whole thing so much worse. He just does so much s*upid sh*t that whaterver enjoyment you get from the novel gets negated.

Also, the writing is overall amateurish. There is a severe lack of emotion in the story. Even during the wedding and other moments that supposed to be emotional, it feels very dry. In addition, the translation is quite bad. The grammar is ok, and I can't say it is not english, but the actual translation is often incorrect. To be precise, this translator has a problem with verbs. The sentence that should be in the past tense is translated in the present tense. First person becomes third person, passive voice becomes active. The reverse is also true. Every chapter multiple times the meaning of the sentences would be reversed. I often have to pause and think of what is actually happening there. Not to mention, some of the sentences are really not english. I think about 5 cases were translated so poorly that it just a meaningless sequence of words. <<less

It's an overall enjoyable and relaxing read. One thing that other readers would probably like from this novel is that there is actually a progress in the relationship between him and his harem.

Just like others reviews... The MC is the worst part! But the author manage to bring us the most hated MC. We forgot that the MC was a NEET.

The MC is still a NEET and a coward. As we know that a NEET person doesn't have any motivation nor cares for others. A very selfish person indeed. Think only for himself (mostly)...

So here we are.. agreeing that the MC is a worst person ever depicted. ret*rded logic, coward, no motivation at all except for his own benefits. Yet the people... more>> around him always praise him and glorifying (is this correct?) Him..

Jut read this when you got the time... me? Just spend the time reading it while waiting other novels got translated. <<less

I'll probably read this a little longer, but overall, this story just seems low quality in every way. The writing is sub-par, and on top of that the world has nothing unique or interesting about it. Complete bum-standard fantasy RPG world. Similarly, the game system is so ill-defined, it just seems like he gets whatever he needs from it whenever he needs it. Any game system is inherently a bit of a deux ex machina, but it's seldom so crass.

The MC (whose name I don't even remember because he's so... more>> dull and bland) repeatedly makes poor or s*upid choices that should end up getting him killed but MC plot armor saves him and then he makes zero effort to mitigate his risks. The best thing that could possibly happen is that the chapter I'm reading ends with him getting killed, and then the novel moving on the a real MC with the old one being an object lesson in how not to treat his "adventuring" like a game, even when he's warned in the first chapter that if he dies in the "game" he's dead, kaput, gone. <<less

The premise is actually very, very interesting to me (an extra star just for that). But sadly, the way author writes the MC is just... Why? Why even bother?

His brain and balls is nowhere to be found. Oh, not really ball-less. At least he has enough courage to frick his harem.

It's very emphasized that he's a NEET (heck, it's actually in the title) and maybe an otaku. But the way he uses his cheat ability is like a total noob who has never touched an RPG game before.

Another bullshit, one... more>> of his harem (which of course a beast-kin s*ave), who haven't even touched a sword before, is a lot more proficient in being an adventurer than him despite he already become one for like a month.

Throughout the series (or at least up to vol. 4), all he can think everytime he encountered a monster is "I'm scared..." and can't think about a single solid strategy which always end up with him being a punching bag and then his harem comes to the rescue.

Another of his famous lines is "i can't use fire magic in the forest". He has the ability to reset his skill points yet he can't even think about resetting it and max out another element instead.

Also, since his party really lacks a vanguard, he always complains about it. Yet he didn't have the balls to reset his skill and become one and always cowers behind his harem. <<less

This is a bit of a mixed bag of a story.

The premise is as usual, MC is a generic Japanese male that gets thrown into a fantasy world with a special power. This time his job isn't to kill the demon king but test out a job system for a god. This means stat blocks and improving swordsmanship from level 3 to level 4.

The world has been reasonable enough so far. Nothing has jumped out and struck out as odd.

The characters are distinctive and easy to remember. MC isn't OP... more>> either, which is always welcome.

However, the plot takes a downturn after volume 3. Up to that point there was a proper flow of the story, the characters moved with purpose. From volume 4 the story started losing momentum. There's still your typical adventurer stuff but it feels like I'm reading generic "Bring me 10 orc arms" quests from a MMO rather than the main story.

This would be fine if the missing part was filled with proper slice of life or something, but it isn't. The story is lacking direction as an adventure and the details and interaction for a proper slice of life. It feels like the author had thought of the story up until this point and is now filling it with whatever comes into mind without thinking about the whole story.

The MC also actually sleeps with his harem, which is fine. However, reading how MC looks at his girls, gets horny and sleeps with harem member x every other chapter doesn't really add much to the story. Also, that previous sentence is the extent the story focuses on it. The whole thing just reinforces the "My dream adventure in another world" feel of the story.

Overall, the story isn't bad. The first 3 volumes are worth reading if you're looking for another typical isekai adventure. It's not the best story out there but good enough keep you entertained. Volumes 4 and 5 so far are readable too even if the pace falls. And who knows, maybe it'll get back on track at some point. <<less

MC... more>> is a 23-year-old NEET seeking employment. He finds a job offer to test an RPG game, but it turns out that some alternate dimension's god wants him to test out RPG-like progression of skills in an alternate world, optionally also to save that world from some kind of unmentioned destruction. The RPG progression (leveling up with combat) is kind of a cheat, since the people of that world don't have access to it. The setting is typical medieval fantasy world, simple magic system, fantasy creatures, demi-humans, etc. There is a harem, MC has OP progression but starts out at level 1, and there is quite a bit of slice-of-life. There is NO technology gap, world building, political factions, or much drama.

The story is fairly straightforward and linear. It's not bad, but not new to me. The harem portion does contain some adult details, but is still PG-13. I don't think the slice-of-life is too slow, if that is a concern to some readers. MC keeps a low profile, but uses his powers whenever he needs to. He was a NEET, and doesn't want unnecessary danger, as he is not OP and doesn't want to die. What is OP is that he can level up and acquires new abilities/spells in days or weeks, like a game, when other people cannot. The writing moves along, and doesn't have too many slow or redundant/irrelevant parts that some slice-of-life stories suffer from.

I think at least a 3-star rating is the minimum, but I like it well enough to bump it to 3.5 or 4. But I would keep it at 3.5, because of translation issues. The translation is currently on the 4th volume. The first 3 volumes were done by 3 different groups, and the 4th volume is being done by the 3rd group as well. The 1st group, I'd give them a rating of 4. The current translator is not a native English speaker, and most of the 3rd volume was unedited. There were frequent sentences that didn't make sense, or required rereading. I would give a translation rating of 2.5 for some chapters, 3 for others. He now has an editor for volume 4, and I think the rating has improved to 3 or 3.5, for now. Overall, this is a typical story with nothing really original. It is simple and straightforward. But the pacing, progression, and characters are done well enough. I think at least a small to medium majority of readers may enjoy this series. Other readers may find the balance of slice-of-life, the MC's steady but slow progression, or his low-profile personality, to be unexciting. <<less

This was a nice light story, but I dropped it. I just got bored. Its was nice to see the illustrations of happy smiling cute characters, I was looking for a slice of life, but it felt like filler too many times. If you have the time and patience read this.

It's difficult to say anything that hasn't been said already. In it's basic form this is an I've been summoned to a different world and there I make a Harem. In a less basic way this is not Hello p*rn nor is this When will something happen. It starts of mainly as Slice of Life with still a nice pace to it in story and relationship progression. Right now at the end of Vol. 2 it seems like vol. 3 will be going moe in the direction of danger and... more>> adventure. Hopefully this will not lead to a total disregard for pace. <<less

Update as of Volume 4 Chapter 16: The grammar is really rough, almost seems like there is no editor/proofreader. The word flow stutters about in almost every single sentence. Conversations feel forced, and characters feel like they are all side-lined at the moment. Marked drop in story quality for the last few chapters, possibly just due to translation being slightly lack-luster.

Starts out a bit rough... don't let that fool you. The writer, translator, editor, and proofreader do a great job at making you grow attached to the characters. You really... more>> start to feel like they are real and despite some character flaws, they are people you want to be okay. When something happens you feel sick to your stomach and end up getting chills thinking they might die and that would be the last you'll see of them. Not exactly an emotional roller coaster, but still something you will get invested in. The grammar and phrasing is well done on the part of the translation teams, for the most part. There will be some awkward phrasing and the occasional misplaced word, but over all it's done well enough to just breeze through it without getting stuck on it like most other translated novels. <<less
