Jirei, the protagonist, thinks that if he becomes a hero and defeats the Demon King in order to become the king, he can spend his days in laziness.

To be chosen as a hero, he trained himself to become a hero, sometimes fighting higher-ranked monsters to the death. All for the sake of his future lazy life, Jirei nearly works himself to death in an effort to make it all happen.

One day while he was sitting at a café, he overheard a conversation and learned about the harshness of being a hero and how much money he can make. In addition, he learned that even if he became the king, he couldn’t spend a lazy time with paperwork and other things.

Hearing this, Jirei immediately quit the hard work and decided to build a small hut on the outskirts of the city and spend his time there.

He figured that a minimum amount of money was all that was needed, so he worked occasionally as a D-class adventurer despite his SSS-class abilities, and otherwise lived lazily in the hut.

One day when he was thinking, 「I wish this kind of life could go on forever,」 a hero girl named Letinore, who was chosen by the Holy Sword, visits Jirei. For some reason, she persistently invites Jirei to join her party. On top of that, the princess of the country also asks him to marry her.

Naturally, Jirei refuses, but both the hero girl and the princess are unlikely to give up……!

「I just want to spend my days in laziness. Just leave me alone!」

This is a story about an overly strong protagonist who just wants a lazy life, who defeated the Four Demon Generals and has attracted the attention of the Demon King, after escaping to another country, princess of that country also asked him to marry her and almost made him the king.

I mean... The story itself is pretty fun (it’s more of an Adventure tale than an Action one), but the translations & the lengths of each chapter (being short) are a detriment to the series. The translations aren’t abysmal, but they only maintain the flow of the story at around a 60% consistency, I’d say. Lots of the comedic phrases get thrown under the bus, so then the main appeal falls onto your imagination & what you can make out about the Adventure.

The romance aspect isn’t terrible & I’m impressed... more>> that such a cookie-cutter Setting bothered to flesh out its female cast - ya know, they’re usually just tropes and stereotypes with predictable responses, outcomes, behaviours, etc, so it’s nice to feel like the females are at least at the level of ‘boring human beings’ (compared to inanimate neon dolls), and who knows, I see potential for them to have some decent depth as this story expands.

There’s nothing original here whatsoever, but if you’re like me & you’re “overly familiar” with this genre, then you’re probably here to experience something that you already know that you’re going to like—and from that viewpoint, you’ll definitely not be disappointed with this title. It’s like arranging a collage with images you already really like, except you want to see it arranged in a creative & refreshing way that’ll tickle that certain ‘craving’. Although I’m yet to see the part with any “Yandere”s, it’s explicitly spelt-out how this story is going to develop—and I’ve gotta admit: besides ‘Running Away from the Hero’ (Ms Mental Bat & Co.), there’s few stories that manage to pull off this Setup without absolutely butchering it or copy/pasting straight from a Garbage Simulator or algorithmic computer-generated story... The only ones that exist are either A) excessively edgy & absolutely geared at young teen male fantasies, or B) so utterly uninspired & inane that a collection of Dugongs, high on DMT, arranging word-bubbles sourced from a kindergarten’s [English-Second-Language] quizzes could legitimately create “whamen” (not to be confused with the conceivably-existing organism ‘Women’) with more personality than 90% of the existing tales in this genre.

So yeah: when there’s more of this translated (or if you feel like going with MTL - cos there’s probably not enough of a difference to be fussy here), give this a shot if the above comments resonate with you at all. It’s Junkfood-level substance, but that’s why we read this stuff, right? It hits all the right notes for something with little expectations - just as its integrity deigned, after all. If you rightfully didn’t expect much when you cl**ked onto this story, then you’ll be thoroughly satisfied with that expectation.

"No good deeds goes unpunished".

This is the premise of this novel, and the event in the cafe mentioned in the synopsis above is where the MC belatedly realized it. A mainly comedy novel, MC will now have to deal with with the consequences of all his past actions when he still walk the path of heroism. His life is hell even if he is practically an undying invincible magical swordsman.

This is not a novel with good action scenes, and only the comedy is above average. What stands out here is... more>> the long flashback arc that ends in chapter 70 or so; the best part of the novel to date. That arc also helps MC's character development a lot (MC's automatic resurrection magic is a brilliant plot device by the author).

Still, the ending of this novel is obvious. It will end with a scene where a ship is sailing towards the sunset. <<less

It's not that bad, but it's not a good read either. The poor translation from Wisteria Tea Translations coupled with a really bad story telling Shiroao Toraneko really made some a hell lot of chaos out of your brain to try to understand, 'What The Hell Are You Trying To Convey?' from this series. It's like a kid writing a story for the story telling competition and got caught up with a lots of ideas and try to forced crammed them to the story. The chapters are waaay to short... more>> from Wisteria as they struggled to translate it. The concept of the story are okay. Not too cliché. I just wish the story will matured into an adults kind of way and not kiddies anymore. <<less

I almost didn't read this because of the reviews, and honestly I think they were way too harsh. The translation quality is totally readable with only a few minor mistakes (saying he instead of she) and such. The story is kind of generic and predictable but I enjoyed it well enough. Realistically this should probably be like 3.5 but I went in with such low expectations.

translation has a little problem with gender, it seems most of the cast are female (harem), but only use 'He' pronoun (probably author fault since japan has gender neutral pronoun) there is lot of notes, which is good, but some, I would like to be put at the bottom because it break the flow and makes it hard to read, the translation is a little confusing, but its probably, the authors fault, since you can tell he skips details to make it seems like all the flash back of when... more>> the MC wore a mask and pretend to be a hero, was someone else, I would like the translator to add more words, even if the author didn't put it to make it more smooth

story comedy, slice of life so far, lots of flashback of MC being a hero, all the female are clingy and keep trying to trap the MC from running away, MC common sense is backwords, he tries not to stand out, but like he casually use high class magic because he think his magic is low tier, without realizing the reason they are easy to learn is because its impossible unless your magic level is extremely high, not much happen so cant really tell how the story is but, its not bad, the MC is haunted of his past, because he used to be a chuunibyou, he isnt gutless is all I can say <<less
