If The World Sees Gentleness

When Xu Ting came back from the army, she found out that her boyfriend and her best friend had an affair behind her back. She had no face left!

She immediately went racing and fell from the steep mountain and died. But she did not expect that she would actually be reincarnated to Dayan Dynasty, where women were superior to men. Women were the breadwinners, and men were meant to take care of the house.

Wasn’t this just right?

Men were virtuous and beautiful, gentle and small, more likable. If she chose a man, she would love him wholeheartedly, he would rely on her unconditionally and they would never betray each other.

Du Siyin’s life is like a joke. He is obviously the legitimate son, but he is not as good as the bastard son. His father died early, his mother did not like him, and even his servants were sarcastic and negligent towards him. He is obviously virtuous and beautiful. He is good at piano, chess, calligraphy, needlework and poetry. He was graceful and refined. But even after all this, his fiancee broke off their engagement and instead pursued the son of an ugly and unrefined merchant. He had become a joke among the noble sons of the capital. He was unmarried at the age of nineteen and was maliciously speculated against by countless people.

At the end of the summer of the fifteenth year of Wenqi, the Queen of Zhenbian returned to Beijing, and Xu Ting, the Princess of Zhenbian, who was the dream candidate of countless sons, appeared before anyone. But Du Siyin had a dead heart and did not have any hopes of having a better life.

Who knew how, but this big pie fell on his head!

Once the marriage was bestowed, and a good relationship was formed, Xu Ting treated Du Siyin with gentleness that the world would be jealous of.

Its a nice good reversal, but due to it there are much errors in he/she when the traslator its writing about the royal family and minor characters.

Also nice twist (its not much of a spoiler since it was revealed in ch 1) that there is another transmigrator (they both drove off the same mountain lol) in the fiancee than abandoned the ML for a "ugly" merchant son (he is manly handsome by modern standards and capable in inconventional things by his society standards)

I really like the MC 3 views... more>> so far, by example:

Spoiler

Xu Ting still had some fellowship with Lu Zhilan, and she also had some appreciation for her as a woman who dared to challenge the tradition, but now, all of these have turned into disgust.

Lu Zhilan herself is also a woman from a society left behind by patriarchy. How could she not understand the difficulties of men in the world of matriarchy. Even though she knows, she can still say such words. Now that the weak has become the strong, not only does it not pity and protect the weak, but instead uses its good luck to turn over and become the master to harm the other party unscrupulously, as if a villain was gaining power. Xu Ting was very disappointed with Lu Zhilan.

Disappointing.

I hate harems. But still wanted to try a novel with the matriarchal premise. And so, I was really happy when I found one that promised a harem-free HE.

I was looking forward to read how the author would tackle the concept of a strong and independent military woman from modern times transmigrating into a matriarchal society after a heartbreak and thrive there as a general who goes agaist the norms to be loyal to her man, while STILL BEING THE WOMAN!

A woman, that still had to deal with all the... more>> problems that came with the gender- like periods, period cramps and pregnancy. Yes, I wanted to see her make her enemies bleed as she too bleeds out her v@g!n@. Or chop enemies with the same ease as chopping cabbages while being preggo. But, nope. That's exactly where this story failed me.

The characters are basically written in a way that the females are now the males while still being called females, and the males are now females but are still called males. I mean, 'males' in their world are gentle, delicate, dependant and beautiful; follow the Confucian principles of Three Obediences and the Four Virtues; AND get pregnant. While the 'females' are valiant, strong and handsome; and think with their lower-half... well of course, how can you be the 'dominant' gender otherwise.😒

I wanted to read femdom not maledom masquerading as femdom after swapping pronouns. Honestly tho, what I got was the very cliche premise of 'Overbearing Tyrant Pampering His Gentle Meek Wife' with all the usual elements:- the ever wary monarch, poorly thought out imperial power struggle, evil step-'moms' suppressing the child from the dead and unloved first 'wife', broken engagements, the slew of 1D jealous/psycho cannonfodders pulling cliched brain-dead tricks to try and get the 'wife' to 'embarrass' themselves during a social gathering/ to get them r@ped, etc. etc... BUT, it's in ?genderbend! Wow! How novel!!

It's like the author ripped-off of a very generic novel with that concept, changed the names of the characters, switched all the pronouns to the opposite and expected no one to find out. Extremely lazy writing imo. But I guess half the fault is mine for not reading the tags properly.

Moreover, the writing was a bit... dreary. At times it felt like I was reading an essay from a middle schooler's writing competition, instead of a novel. And the translation! Well... let's just say they too seem really confused about the genders/pronouns (and considering how preschool science taught me too that female of a species is the s*x that produces ova/egg or bears young, I really can't blame them for it). MTL version's got a near similar readability so no worries~

So, why still the 3⭐? It's all because of this one instance. The reviewer @FEMA has already mentioned it before.

It got me thinking and I liked it so much that I struggled through 63 chapters of this ridiculous cliche plot just 'cause of it. And if not for it, I'd have rated this at 2.25/5⭐ instead, and that too mostly just for translator's efforts. This was my first matriarchal novel and I was excited to read it. but now, all I'm left with is disappointment.

P.S: if anyone knows a good matriarchal/femdom novel where females remain females, please ping me. Luv u! <<less

I MTL’s the whole story and so I can’t be 100% sure on what happened, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I like the whole concept of a reversed-gender-role society, but the whole plot of the novel was not the best.

A lot of moments were summarized or time-skiped and so the whole novel/world buildings seemed a bit underdeveloped.

Spoiler

For example, the whole struggle for the throne between the seventh princess and the fourth princess was not really descriptive. Furthermore, there was little mention in what the MC was doing during this whole struggle; was she working? Was she staying at home? Hanging out with her husband?

[collapse]

I felt a bit disappointment with how little the MC seemed involved with the whole plot.

Spoiler

She doesn’t really get involved with the whole throne struggle until the end which is understandable since she wanted to be low-key, but then, why focused so much on the fourth princess and her evil deeds? I want to focus on the MC more.

[collapse]

I just feel like the story is not as focused on the MC as it should be.

Overall though, I enjoyed reading it. <<less

tbh three stars are only because of how interesting the concept is.

i know matriarchy related novels are ver very few and even good ones are hard to find and even if there is a good one its either a reverse-harem concept or only a short arc in a QT novel (which I have no issues with)

This novel, like another reader has mentioned, just brushes thru all events and even feels like there are time-skips which makes the flow chaotic and vague. In fact its been that way from the... more>> very beginning.

-poor world-building

-poor backstory

-no character growth

-plot holes everywhere

-poor plot flow

-interesting concept with appalling execution.... seriously it's like a 12 y/o wrote this

Honestly, the whole transmigration was so useless IMO. the other transmigrated character lol she only appeared a few times to annoy MC but then disappears. we don't even know what happens to the MO dude.

at the very least the romance could have been given more attention to. <<less

About the novel, I gave it five stars (↑4.5) because it showed that mutually treating one's partner right is soooo easy, esp with the power to do so. Here in this matriarchal setting, it's nothing more than switching the labels but it's worlds apart from some Het texts where romance is overly tangled and complicated (splattered with dog blood). The romance here is quite straightforward and reminds me of "The Transmigrated Li Jin's Daily Farming Life" (BL). Maybe why I craved for "seme protagonist" tags in danmei for a long... more>> time now and I stumbled upon this gender switch text XDD.

This novel is interesting and heartwarming. It's a nice light read since the tags are all quite healthy. Kinda weird setting but if it's about an MC who has well-formed three views, and knows the importance of communication thus preventing misunderstandings... Ehm spoiling one's husband, WHY NOT? <<less

I'd give it 3.5 stars. As other have mentioned, the gender role reversal is just a matter of switched gender pronouns. The norms, behaviors, and attitudes of men in this world are exactly the same as women in the ordinary world. This might have been more novel if they focused on our transmigrated MC being a fish-out-of-water or having to adjust to these differences, but there isn't even that. We come into the story with MC having been in the world since childhood and claims "her psychology must have adapted"... more>> to the point where she even feels "controlled by her lower body" the way men in OG world do. There's a second transmigrator who's set up as sort of a mini-antagonist, but honestly her story seems like it would have been more interesting to read since she marries a man who is considered ugly in their world but is handsome by the standards of our world. A way more intersting dynamic than the very bland, very cliche (if the gender roles were normal) romance between FL & ML.

That said, the FL & ML romance is very soft and sweet. No drama or misunderstandings and it's very respectful. If you want a simply, sweet couple with no drama then you definately get that here.

Another big flaw is the writing. Someone else said that it feels like a 12 year old wrote it and I'd agree. Or if not a 12 year old, a bot who took a bunch of cliche scenes from the most cliche historical romance CNs and spliced them together with little to no transitions. Literally, no transitions. There's one scene where the ML is being embaressed by the catty prince by being forced to perform in front of a crowd. FL plans to save him by volunteering to perform instead. Before she can volunteer, another character suggests they do a duet. The chapter ends, with this suggestion and the next chapter begins with them returning hope after the banquet. What!?

All in all, I wouldn't rush to recommend this, but there's nothing particularly offensive in it. It's just very bland. <<less

I really thought it would be the FL choosing the ML in the end and protecting him from all the other discriminations that's why I removed a star lol. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly appeased at how smooth and easy they fell for each other that I initially thought that their love wouldn't be so deep. Like they were in an arranged marriage by the Empress Dowager and fell for each other at first sight. They also even had their first night during the wedding (which I didn't expect since other... more>> novels would wait for the two lead characters to know each other more first). I do like it tho and I even hope my future marriage would also go that smoothly.

The world in the novel is a female-ruled world (matriarchal) where the females ruled and had power while the males had to be conservative and are the ones to give birth. Anyway, it wasn't my first time encountering such a setup since I've read so many CN novels already. FL is the daughter of the best border general and is also an excellent general herself. She was transmigrated but was able to adjust smoothly in such a world that no one even noticed that she was from another world. She fought wars and gained her own achievements. She is a very heroic and blunt woman who is completely loyal to her wife (husband ML).

ML was the son of a deceased princess and was talented in various types of art. He looked docile and gentle but is very smart and knows how to fight back in his own way. He easily fell for FL after realizing how much FL seems to treasure him. He supported FL from behind despite being a man to which FL was very proud of.

This novel also contains a lot of intrigues and fight for the throne. It also contains some tragedy which honestly would make you feel bad for the ML and the future emperor/empress. It's honestly a good historical CN novel and it's very short too so you wouldn't spend too much time reading this. The only problem this novel has is that it's difficult to MTL if you're a beginner lol. <<less

Well I liked the story. It was cute and the ending was extra satisfying.

although there were many annoying side characters who were s*upid and annoying it was not unbearable. Things to consider:

    • if you are a new reader just go to the MTL. this translation is actually a Google translation. Whoever uploaded this didn't even bother to edit it out.
    • Ah but if you are a new reader to ancient historical novels. You'll never understand half the book. Since the uploaded chapters are also a MTL with no explanations are given for words like Wang, Wangjun and many more.
but it's not the authors fault and it's just that this is not a translation but a copy of MTL. so you can't blame the author for this.

Yes it's just gender pronoun switch on a regular face slapping novel, which is utterly disappointing. Also, not sure how to put it, the author is very biased towards the MC (Xu Ting) and act like the other transmigrated girl (Lu Zhilan) is a b*tch.

Spoiler

It's true, the other girl is wrong and just selfishly ending her engagement with ML (Du Siyin), simply because she likes modern man (Mo Zian) who takes charge instead of meek man who act like a girl which was the novel's common sense. Even though the way they broke up is bad, it still is the right call, rather than her just getting married to ML and living miserably with him because of character incompatibility.

The spoiler above mentioned that 'Xu Ting was very disappointed with Lu Zhilan.', but basically MC (Xu Ting) let her subordinates talking tr*sh about this 'macho man' (Mo Zian) while they dine in restaurant OWN by Lu Zhilan (which by the way the most popular restaurant in town). And they did it while Lu Zhilan and Mo Zian were ON A DATE next door listening to their tr*sh talk. I mean, someone slandering your man ON YOUR DATE, how can Lu Zhilan just not angry? Do we expect her to just accept it when other women tr*sh talk her man?

Personally I like the shy and pampered man one, but I won't call macho men ugly or whatsoever. MC did apologize to Lu Zhilan, but did she thinks that it's enough to apologize on behalf on her subordinate while she just let them go freely and just scold them with one sentence after she talks big about men difficulties in their world? As a reader I'd understand that Lu Zhilan wants to take revenge and tr*sh talking Du Siyin too, just to make MC feels the same as her!! FL apology has zero sincerity. She let the man being tr*sh talked, and while the author said she feels bad but she does nothing to stop her subordinate until Lu Zhilan confront them.

Imagine, you heard next door gossiping about your man and then after you confront them, they apologize lightly without feeling bad, because, hey, they are a noble and you're a commoner, so you should be grateful that you get your apologize and not being jailed for disrespecting the nobles!

And it's just seem like MC has zero leadership from my point of view. As the supervisor you should be responsible for your subordinate. Maybe because it's romance so all of this competent general is only a background and written carelessly.

MC is in position of power, and while it is sweet that she's angry when Du Siyin is being slandered, she seems perfectly okay with the macho men being slandered, called ugly and tr*sh talked by her subordinate which she should be able to control. All the things about 'understand the difficulties of men in the world of matriarchy' is empty talk and only apply for Du Siyin because he is her man. It's not difficulties of men but difficulties of her lover!

'Xu Ting was very disappointed with Lu Zhilan', but I'm disappointed with MC.

[collapse]

For novel (that I thought) attempting a gender equality, this is no different with the normal usual ML who uses all his power in ancient times to only thinks about beautiful FL and sweep her under her feet, just reverse the he/she pronoun.

I actually don't have any issue reading from the characters, but the protagonist and author infuriate me that I just have to come here to root for Lu Zhilan instead. I get that you want gentle female matriarch, but author just had to depicts Lu Zhilan as the bit*h to spice up the drama despite her just being just a normal person who wants to pamper her man who is different from normalcy in society for me.

The protagonist is a hypocrite and I just can't read it when the protagonist has this kind of virtue because I really can't root for her at all. (Phew, that was a long rant) <<less

It’s an alright story. The romance part was a bit rushed it didn’t feel there was much romance building. The FL is actually the hero and is an army general- she is strong virile and very masculine in general. The ML is actually more like a female lead, soft, virtuous, smart, etc.. The world is reverse but there is no novelty in that reversal hence why my score. I’ve read other reversal world novel and liked their portrayal better, the heroine stays an heroine without embodying the equivalent of a... more>> male lead. <<less

Story is pretty good but the translation is rough. I ended up just reading the raws because how confusingly the translation is. The plot itself was readable but the world building became grating in that instead of strong females you just get females trying overly represent what a 'man should be' (by societal standards)

Not enough romance for me.

MC kind of just accepted everything and blended in.

Idk how her love developed but it just did.

It was like she became an ancient person but had more understanding of the opposite s*x and was monogamous.

Everything was solved too easily.

And we don't know how some side characters romances develop later on.

I felt like it ended kind of abruptly too.

But I really felt sad when ... more>>

Wang ningshan died and her lover saw it happen. Honestly that was the most moving and interesting part of the whole novel. Everything else was bland to me. I also loved how xu Yue accepted that ningshan would always be loved and she could grow to love him too without forgetting ningshan. That's honestly why it's even a 2 for me.
