Inconsistencies Inconsistencies everywhere

Only gave 2 star for the translator. Although chapters are short, sometimes extremely short, it was translated at least above average.

First of, grandma you're a 40 year old woman, act your age, or at least be mature enough to not get flustered over a 5 year old's smile, and the one who acts like adults were the kids (specially the prince). How come a 5 year old kid is knowledgeable about the shadowy nature of nobility's? Even if its minuscule information a kid not even old enough to... more>> leave their mother's side will never comprehend such dark things. I get the feeling the person who wrote this isn't even an adult, much less has any experience as a parent. The "40 year-old" MC acts more like a child than the actual children; despite spending decades in her original life learning how to maneuver herself socially, she's extremely stunted when it comes to picking up any sort of social cue. It's to the point where you have to wonder if she's alright in the head. The "heroine" of the original story is also s*upid beyond saving, doing things that... more>> would probably get her jailed or killed several times over. Honestly, the entire childhood period was rather brutal. Now that they're onto the school arc, I'm not expecting the novel to be better, but it will converge a bit to be more like the standard 'reborn as a villainess' stories which is going to be a lot more bearable than what we've had to deal with so far. <<less

A reincarnation into otome game genre series with thin game setting (the protagonist didn't need to try hard breaking flags since aside from characters and world from the game, almost everything else is different). Which is not bad, it's cute but it's not providing anything new in the genre. It's mostly light hearted and only at some points containing a little bit of drama. The drama is not too heavy since it's usually resolved within a few chapters.

The latter arc is pretty bad though, it feels like a forced drama.... more>> New obnoxious male character popping up towing in with a lame plot... The author seems giving up on this plot since she's ben in hiatus for over a year after getting into the middle of this plotline, it's exactly after 4th volume of the light novel published to boot. <<less

Please skim or skip my review if you're not interested in another person's opinions or if you want to go into this blind as this may contain minor spoilers. This may be updated with time.

I was reading another similar story, and I realized I never made a review for this, so here's that. The translation is smooth, easy to read, and relatively free of mistakes. Any confusion are mentioned in the side notes which are easily distinguishable from the story.

I must admit I was worried when I first read the... more>> summary but was happily surprised when I found little body-shaming in this. Certainly, the main character was unhappy with her body, but the author was sensitive with the words she used to describe her and Cosette doesn't go to great lengths complaining about her body or degrading herself. In fact, none of the characters hates on Cosette for her body and the MC is actually friends with the villainess. What the author portrays is a character who wants to change for herself, not someone who changes because she hates what she is.

I love politics, I love intrigue, and I love a good drama with deaths abound. This is not that story. I don't care much for the side-plot revealed later on, especially since the execution was rather clumsy - why would you tell a relative stranger about the secrets of the royal family? - But to my relief, it quickly moved back to it's lighthearted slice-of-life chapters. The story isn't anything new and the characters aren't extremely memorable, but they're likable. Cosette is OP in her own way with too much knowledge (something found in 98% of all reincarnation stories) and she doesn't act like a woman who died in her forties, but if I ignore that, she's cute. The only dislikable character is the Heroine and there are many hints that the Heroine has also reincarnated. I don't care much for females hating on females, but the Heroine hasn't appeared often so I won't complain too much.

I like the occasional sweet and lighthearted stories. This isn't the best of that genre, but I like it for what it is. Try it if it interests you and if you have time to spare. <<less

So far it's like a mix of "Common Sense of a Duke's Daughter" and a bit of "Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith"

Like Duke's Daughter, MC is creating and selling brand products, except they're mostly different kinds of shoes. Not as serious/mature as Duke's Daughter though, mostly slice of life fluff for now. Happy and loving family and all. No drama, and a hands off kind of business management. She's also just a mob character, not the usual villainess. MC is super obese so... more>> she's trying to lose weight. Story skips through most of the dieting phase though. It's more about the creation of new (dieting) products, shoes, and fashion trends. I like it so far. <<less

extremely long, there are about a third of the pages that are telling something, the rest is infinite babble going from dieting to cooking, to shoe fashion and bringing useless 21rst century products in another world and it's business model which is never questioned (bless commmercials and marketing, don't plug a brain)

the manga is way better as it cuts bad corners a lot

the story part is very common, and the characters are very much 2D

the only possible interest could have been conflicting memories between a child and an adult... more>> past life, instead of that, it seems like the persona of a 10year old is being entirely suppressed or distroyed by the past life self - in the end, the MC behave like the child or teenagers she is, zhen she doesn't sprouts beer needs, or granny behavior

it coul have been fun, but it's at at a disturbing place, she was ne born with past memories, they came a bit at a time, and even then, memories are juste that, we all have them, some that are really influential, but not so many that shape us... also she should be clear, about who she was and who she is now... how come the one time revelation of a 10 year old has so much influence in her life even after so many years ?

it not played nice, and it is very long

lastly, viva "please save my earth "if you care for a manga about past life influences, but as a novel, that one is really poor <<less

I'm a sucker for Otome games novels and read them all. This has the typical japanese approch to these reincarnation novels exept the MC is not beautiful at the start (but that changes quickly).

Rather than focussing on the relationship and Otome game part it instead centers around the MC inventing products which are mainly diet related.

Honestly to me personnally it's pretty boring and I skip read most of the chapters. The fact that diet slippers are a high class fashion trend alone, is making me cry in bed at nights.

But... more>> like I said earlier, I devour novels of this genre. So I'll keep reading with hopes of improvement.

Better not dissapoint me! <<less

The MC is cute as she tries to lose weight and unintentionally creates "new products" (pretty much just what she saw/used in her past life) with each passing chapter. Not really any plot development besides the fact that she did lose weight (does this count as plot?). Just your average shoujo slice of life novel as you follow the MC as she lives out her daily life as a mob character.

I enjoyed this novel as a break from drama and thrill seeking hahaha

If you want to read something relatively drama... more>> free this is the novel for you. <<less

TLDR: It's a light fun take on the villainess genre tossed in with modern people know things. Toss in a good translation and it's 4 stars a fun read.

There's nothing unique or particularly special here. Just basic Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court, with a romance tossed in, some weight loss, and building the ready to wear industry in a primitive world. While it may be special it is done well, and it's fun to watch our girl from mob character to protagonist.

Bottom line: A fun read when you don't... more>> want to think too hard. <<less

This story is similar to Common Sense of a Duke’s Daughter. This is because the protagonist’s both make and sell their own products. And for the most part, it seems like that is their main interest. However, I really liked that aspect of the story. I also think that the MC’s relationship with all the other characters is very cute. It’s nice to see how some of the characters change for the better because of her.

This is a cute, fluffy slice-of-life comedy about a Japanese woman and mother who is reincarnated into an otome game cannon fodder character. She doesn't have strong feelings about the game or characters since she didn't play the game, but her daughter was addicted to it. She doesn't have any interest in romance and decides to just live life how she wants to live it. She enjoys designing shoes, reinventing Japanese foods, and gardening.

There's no magic, but it's not a realistic setting either. The world isn't particularly fleshed out, and... more>> it's just light-hearted. None of the characters have much depth, but they are distinctive from each other. Even though the MC was middle-aged in her previous life, she acts more like a naive and oblivious little girl who hasn't even hit puberty yet (even when she's in her mid-teens) rather than someone with as much life experience as would be expected from her. The person who reincarnated as the game's heroine has questionable moral character and has a strong sense of self-entitlement. However, she hasn't taken up much of the story thus far except to be rude and pick fights with people, so she's gone before she becomes too obnoxious.

Spoiler

The self-proclaimed heroine should be, at minimum, the prince's cousin or, at worst, his half-sister. The heroine herself doesn't seem to realize this and wants to marry the prince, which suggests that she may not have completed the game in her previous life.

[collapse]

There isn't any blatant fat-shaming, but the women are heavily to lose weight all the time while men are leaning toward a bodybuilding trend. I was concerned that the MC herself was developing an eating disorder until it was revealed that she snacks all the time. Body acceptance and living in a healthy manner, rather than developing unhealthy dietary restrictions, are definitely NOT themes for this series.

The first 50+ chapters by UnicornsGalore still have Japanese text and some nonsensical translations, but Japanese dialogue is so vague it has a reputation for being exceptionally troublesome to translate well.

Overall, this is a light, funny series that is nice for wasting time and getting a few laughs. <<less
