MC is a guy from a Hunter/Gate world dies and is transmigrated into a fantasy world. The system from his original world carries over, and while MC's original abilities don't come back the system gives him a quest - to make someone king, or die. MC's body lacks magic talent, but he has to go to a magic academy anyway to find candidates. Daily life in a fantasy world with a system + foreboding undercurrent.

Going to wait to rate until there are more translated chapters.

Is it worth reading?

For me, yes. If you like an MC who uses his head more rather than strength, then this is for you. Oh, and with no romance too.

  • PLOT: The plot isn't unique but among the countless transmigration novels I've read, I'd say only a few have the kingmaker premise. The execution is okay... tho there's still some room for improvement. The plot twist about Raymond is quite a surprise. The pacing after the 1st year arc was fast but understandable

There was also kind of like a fast-forward part after the battle with the Duchy of Bartelbach, which made it obvious that the saved point would be used not only to save the MC but also because the story turned for the worse so it needed to be fixed. Despite knowing that the save point will be used, it was still unbearable to read cause it's a total tragedy.

Since this was already completed with 275 chapters, I could already somewhat predict the ending. Reading this novel is still fun tho.
  • CHARACTERS:
    • MC - Raymond is sly, clever, funny, will do anything to survive... and a professional gaslighter.😂 He reminds me of Cale Henituse from TCF. Not because they have similar hair color but because they're the type of character that's weak yet strong but uses their heads more rather than brute force. Just like Cale, Raymond also has a bluffing skill that makes him seem strong (tho it was only used once). He's the type not to care for a position in power but rather prefers a slacker life. He has a calm demeanor regardless of the situation (most of the time). He also "sacrifices" himself and gets hurt to achieve something and his friends get worried and frustrated. He has fainted quite a few times already. Despite the many similarities, he's not a "copy-paste" character. He has his distinct characteristics and personality. I like his relationships with the other supporting characters. I like how he grew emotionally as he encountered and connected with more people. Unlike his previous life, he has trustworthy and dependable friends in his current life.
    • Supporting Characters - Most of the important supporting characters are quite fleshed-out. The MC and Onyx's dads are tsunderes and frustrating yet quite cute when they're secretly doting their sons. (That doesn't excuse their poor actions of protecting their sons as a father though.) I like that the supporting characters are given enough spotlight and the story gets narrated through some of their POVs from time to time. There's one character that I get frustrated and annoyed with at times though. It's Adrian. It's cute when he's so obedient and clingy to his older brother like a puppy but he's too dependent on him. Like he doesn't have a sense of self at all, which makes him so susceptible to dark sorcery/spirit magic. And Somerset most likely knows this too that's why he keeps on bugging Adrian to work under him cause he knows he'd be easy to control.
    • Villain - Somerset is equally sly and cunning as Raymond. He's the type that will do anything and will use anyone to sit on the throne. He's a tyrant and treats people as chess pieces or puppets. He doesn't show his true emotions no matter what the circumstances are. I like that the villain isn't some third-rate, childish fool. He's clever so he devises plans well. It makes the struggles of Raymond & his friends more worthwhile to read. Wondering how they'll be able to get out of their predicament or turn it to their advantage makes it more intriguing.
  • BATTLES: There aren't many actions/battles. The most action there was in the story was the war with the Duchy of Bartelbach but that ended quickly too. Mock battles/spars between students are so-so. There are occasional scenes where the author showcases Raymond and other supporting characters' prowess but it's nothing grand. This novel is more focused on scheming, character interpersonal relationships, character developments, and Raymond plotting and being cunning to achieve his goals.
  • TRANSLATION: It's a bit off. Some sentences don't make sense. Pronouns are used incorrectly. Character names are either misspelled or used wrongly. Like for example, Raymond was obviously the one speaking yet it goes something like: "__" Onyx said. There are even some parts that were repeated in the middle and it disrupts the flow of reading. The latter chapters were a bit better though, with occasional misusage of character names. I've read worse translations than this so my brain kinda goes into automatic translation mode that's why it doesn't bother me much.
    Spoiler

I recommend ignoring the latter part of chapter 57 because it seems to be a mistranslation. Starting from the part where Ray approaches Yutah, talks about the new king candidate, and shows him the system on his device until the part where Onyx asks his uncle to search for the Key of Justice/Juste. I read a comment that he MTLed c57 and that part was nonexistent. Reading c58, it seems to be true cause everything flowed and made more sense in that chapter. This same issue of translation of nonexistent scenes happened again on c63 and c64 so it's better to ignore them.
