To start with, the translation for this story is decent, and I’d give it a 4/5 stars. Easy to read, obviously proofread.

As for the actual story, that gets maybe 2 stars from me. The writing is simplistic, the story is shallow, and the whole thing is fluff. Now, in some cases that’s not a bad thing; it’s a great mix for a brain-dead story to relax to. However, the actual characters and story construction are so frustrating that it destroys whatever advantages it has.

Beginning with the MC, she’s a total... more>> push over. I can understand this trait at first; as mentioned in the summary, she’s been overworked and put down for a while. However, she’s doesn’t grow at all. She has little to no hobbies, no personality, isn’t charming or likable in any way, and if the people around her asked her to jump into a volcano, she could probably be persuaded to volunteer. I’ve had pasta water with more flavour and depth than this MC.

As for the ML, he’s actually more likable than the MC. That is, if the MC is pasta water, he’s salted pasta water. At least he seems to have things he likes, and occasionally has opinions, even though his justification for marrying the MC is as flimsy as wet paper. (And believe me, I have read A LOT of ‘fake’ contract marriage stories. It’s that flimsy.)

As for the actual story itself... look, there are reasons someone would read a story with this summary. If you’re looking for a shallow, if quaint, slice of life, you’ve come to right place! If you’ve come looking for romance, you’re probably not going to like what you find. The two have no chemistry whatsoever, and the ML is doing all of the heavy lifting. I almost feel bad for him, being stuck with her, even if she is talented at magic. For goodness sake woman, you’re bored, and your fiancé is buried in paperwork!! Pick up a pen!!

Now, if you were like me, and was hoping for the sweet, tr*shy, self-indulgent trope that is ‘overworked genius finally escapes and the people they left behind crashes and burns in glorious HD without their help’... you’ve also come to the wrong place. The old palace is barely mentioned, and the only consequences appear to be on maybe two of the characters dealing with her new workload. No description or larger consequences on the overall supply chain of magical goods at all. It’s unsatisfying to the max.

One final complaint; they skipped a bunch of the fun stuff! Right after he proposes
Spoiler

it time skips right past her leaving, breaking the news, and even the wedding! Jumps right to her already having settled into the palace.

[collapse]
It’s like it’s skipped the whole story and I’m just reading a really long epilogue.

As for why I didn’t give it a 1 star review; look, the translation is good, this isn’t going to be a long story, and it’s good for mindless reading. It’s not actively repulsive or incomprehensible, and it takes a lot to get 1 stars from me. Plus the tags are pretty accurate, so I gotta give it points for that. <<less

That was a very unsatisfying story.

I liked the slow romance. It was definitely "hey, now that we've gotten to know one another, I actually kinda like you."

I don't like the abrupt ending. There was no closure there. It wasn't even a proper confession. The bad guys are still loose. They're still on the brink of civil/international war.

File this one under, "if you've got nothing better to do."

Relaxing slice of life about an overworked woman finally taking a break.

I like the pacing, I like the characters, and the I think the plot is OK.

Honestly it's a nice relaxing read. Great for downtime.

I wish it was spicier, but c'est la vie.
