Lin Xinghe, who used to be the villain of a Mary Sue novel, received an acceptance letter from the Modern Era Department of the Villain School.

On the first day of school, her deskmate told her-

“Every new villain that comes here thinks that they’re f*cking amazing. At best, Modern villains like us know how to earn money through mu*der and cause trouble for the male and female leads.”

“Whatever you do, don’t provoke the Western Fantasy Department. Before coming here to reform, those big brothers would wipe out half the world with a snap of their fingers.”

“Also, don’t hang out with students from the Ancient Era Department. Those villains are always conspiring to overthrow the throne and become principal.”

“And you absolutely cannot have any fantasies about the Xian Xia Department’s grass, Xie Wuan! That! Guy! Is! A! Big! Pe*vert!” (1)

Soon after.

Lin Xinghe’s deskmate saw the big brother from the Fantasy Department using his fire magic to dry clothes for Lin Xinghe. The big brother from the Ancient Era Department had Lin Xinghe’s cat lying on his shoulder and the grass of the Xian Xia Department was placing vegetables into Lin Xinghe’s bowl.

Lin Xinghe’s deskmate: …

very chill read, felt like the pacing was a bit fast but I guess there's not much you can do with just the power of luck and bullshitting. the concept behind the whole villain school idea is pretty original and new from most unlimited flow novels but not super exciting after 1-2 worlds. most OP players don't have much depth to them so that kinda ruined the novel for me.

i was looking forward to a female MC but got bored around the 3rd examination, I wished she actually gained skills... more>> or something but her EE luck is just too OP and full of sh*t lol. at first I tolerated it because I don't mind lucky MCs but it got boring really fast.
Spoiler

like ok give 3/4 of the player population supernatural/fantasy/martial arts powers but lets make the MC stay mortal except for her OP pet cat/daughter who can't even be used in situations when the MC needs her but that doesn't matter bc MC somehow wins anyway bc she yaps a lot and things just work in her favor bc it just does. I was looking forward to a MLM/ cult leader type of MC but ehhhhh she just has the power of bs on her side.

the ML is boring af even for his cold exterior stereotype.. and the whole "this illustrious one..." inner monologue makes me wished the refrigerator was the real ml.. yup I said it.

examinations/worlds so far:

Spoiler

1. snowy mountain/village snow maiden

2. ghost cruise ship/hadal ogre

3. mechanical city/holy city/mermaid city

4. pvp world?? idk dropped on the beginning of this one

Started off quite interesting. Despite having a koi physique, MC actually had the wit to back the plot up. In the 3rd arc, the excitement understandably waned down because you can only go so far with an OP Mary Sue FL. Plot at this point also started to develop some holes. ML was very obvious and his antics/personality bored me when it was expanded upon. Fun while it lasted.

So far, so great. Up to chapter 66 and the translations are spectacular. Lots of other glowing reviews really hyped it up, and it's met most expectations.

  • Get ready for a FL who will gaslight gatekeep and girlboss her way into your heart. She's not afraid to get people to join her MLM scheme with the power of good ol' luck and confidence. As the readers and side characters say, she's "full of nonsense" in the best of ways.
    • I expected a bit more laugh out loud moments to be honest, but it's only been 2.5 arcs for me. Still early out of the 188 chapters out there! Everything is pretty funny, but not to the point where I've bellowed in laughter like I expected.
    • The FL is 100% OP over here so if you're looking for someone more flawed... ya might want to pack up and look elsewhere. She's super likable and we're here to be her #1 fans.
  • Wow, the plot twists!
    • It's a simple start but not-so-simple ending. I MTL'd the last chapter to know how the story will end but other reviewers' have hella plot twists in their spoiler tags. The author got me there!! When another review said this is plot-driven, it lives up to that. At first you think the FL's just trying to do her exams, but there's something else going on.
  • Great great translations. Thanks for the awesome footnotes with added context/background and care taken with how characters speak (ex: the ML!). He comes from the xianxia division of the school and for some reason kept his formal speech, so seeing the contrast in dialogue is fun.
    • Speaking of school divisions, I haven't seen the scene in the blurb with the powerful dudes at the beck and call of our FL yet. Not sure if it'll even happen with how the story is going.
  • Exams = worlds. In the villain school, you live using points and earn them through exams that basically feel like quick transmigration worlds/dimensions. I thought they were pretty creative and enjoyed how the FL MLM'd her way to the top. Go Xinghe!
    • Exam 1: Snow Maiden in a Suspicious Village
    • Exam 2: Mystery Thriller Cruise (+ Underwater Ogres)
    • Exam 3: Sentient Machines vs. Humans vs. Mermaids
    • They sound pretty cool, huh?
  • Pretty light romance thus far but it seems to be on the backburner throughout the story. Exam 3 is the first close-counter interactions they have of each other and they're both ~intrigued~.
  • According to another review, a lot of loose ends are tied up so I'm looking forward to all the reveals once the chapters complete. Recommended for an adventurous QT-like story with a FL who doesn't follow the rules!

Just so I know what chapter I'm on lol

But since this is technically a review, I might as well write one. I say it's definitely an interesting read. All the different examination rooms, the strategies she comes up with to complete them, and her calm yet funny character I love. The thing that took me by surprise was the mysteries she began uncovering about the school, which showed how deep the plot actually went. The only thing I was saddened by was how there were times where her luck just... more>> gave her what she needed or she just relied on it in certain scenarios where I felt that could've been so much more if she hadn't had that luck, or at least for it being used in that way.

For example,

Spoiler

in the first exam room, she literally stumbled upon money after she asked for it, how she simply "dodges" things because of her luck and ends up without a scratch, etc.

[collapse]

But the majority of her is relying on her strategies. She reminds me of those perfect/op characters I see in some CN Xianxia novels, which I find fun.

I feel it would've been a lot more exciting than it already was, and it would've been exactly what I was looking for. Because of my personal preferences, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I would like to mention, however, I read a spoiler that may insinuate that
Spoiler

there is a reason for her luck. I just haven't gotten to that part of the story yet. Nonetheless, I don't take back what I said before about how I disliked how it was used sometimes.

I actually want to give this 3 stars, but the rating is full of 5 and I don't want to bring down the average.

It was a very interesting read. The lore and the setting were written so well. I just got bored a lot of times. The only thing that kept me going is the romance, which is so few btw that I was just picking up crumbs. ML and MC's interactions were so cute. It's quite disappointing though since this novel has "romance" as one of its genres, but... more>> the romance is such a tiny part of the novel. <<less

It is so good and worth the read. The MTL is very readable. I’m so glad I found this novel! I’ve read so many on NU and this one is a gem.

The romance was exciting and fun without being toxic or too predictable. The background characters were engaging and the plot was great!!

I’m not good at writing reviews, but definitely give this novel a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Ok, this was one of the most well-written books I've ever read. There is a clear plot.

I absolutely love the MC. She is charismatic to the extreme. She draws people in so well.

To be honest I usually read novels about individuals going on adventures, usually with like a pet as a companion. This is because usually, people in other novels betray the MCs in the end. However, this novel is all about working together and I'm here for it! Also unlike other novels, people stay loyal to the MC till... more>> the end.

Spoiler

I have always loved and will always love Livestream novels with peoples' reactions. It always feels like I'm part of an audience and makes everything lighter for some reason

[collapse]

This is a light novel that still keeps on your toes without killing off the Mc's loved ones etc., you know the usual strategies other authors use.

Perfect story with a satisfying ending. Not too long either. Just enough <<less

Wahhh it’s so good! 10/10!

I had so much fun reading this! At first I thought it’s a simple school attending type of novel, then out of nowhere came the conspiracies and intrigue!

The best thing about this novel is the characters! And my only gripe is I wish there were extra chapters, post story. I would love to see ML and MC + cat’s day to day story after the novel’s timeline.

Slow romance, but everything was tied up together.

Very amusing and novel world hopping novel - just for villains! Although the MC doesn’t have unusual powers - she is smart and persuasive and asks all the questions readers do. Why should I go in there? Who benefits from these crimes? Whose the big boss behind the unsuccessful ones? Along the way, she gains a lot of admirers but they become more of a crew than a harem. It’s a complicated novel so stick around to the very end to see the real twist!

While you can't rate or review on the translation, I'd like to give a thumbs up to the translator they have done an excellent job.

Unfortunately the novel the novel isn't worthy. First the synopsis might as well be for another novel about the only thing that it gets right are the character names and there's a school. The novel is actually a take on world hopping, with the school sending it's students on missions in various worlds. There's almost no school experience and certainly not enough to rate featuring it.

What... more>> the novel is about are the various missions, which take the form of spy/detective arcs. It's a hard form to do well and this novel doesn't manage it. The resolutions are all out of nowhere and usually explained by the MC's insane luck. The mission arcs fall flat and since they are the bulk of the novel, they bring down the whole novel. <<less

IT'S SO GOOD! I love every arc/novel world she took as it allowed MC to show her strengths against her own weaknesses. Others may think that she's just too OP, and maybe that's true, but reading it till the end explained a lot of things about her including why she's so confident about herself and her skills.

I hope this doesn't spoil much but she's actually someone that was very strong, and something just happened which is why she is the way she was at the start of the novel. Not... more>> to worry though because even if she's physically weak, I tell you, it's as if she's much more stronger than anyone else because of her quick-thinking and observation skills. I love how she has atleast one or two or maybe most npcs in the exam/novel worlds that she gets to be allied with. I love their relationships, her bond with everyone is so fluff material. Specially our baby Xiao Xue Ji!! Also, her bond with Xie Wuan actually surprised me. I didn't expect that she's the reason why he collects those figurines. This novel just gave me a lot of plot twist that I wasn't expecting.

This villain novel is very different and unique compared to most novels that I've read. This one leaves a very distinct impression that I think I'll remember for as long as I read. I've actually read this before but I stopped because it was at the time when it was still being uploaded, and I just reread and continued it again when it's finally completed. It's very good and well paced but I also do think that the ending was a bit rushed. I wished the author gave us just a tiny bit more interactions with the characters just to give us a final closure that everyone is fine and well and is happy with their actual lives now. But overall, this novel is now one of my favorite novels! <<less

This story is like those horror survival game but with a little twist. It’s has alot of mash ups and silly plots and plots hole, but doesn’t matter. Its a fun read. But near the end chapters, the translation take a dip dive to mtl. So use your brain less. Lol.

MC is very op. But with this mash up the author has a sound bg for her. ML bg, will be revealed in the end. Romance wise not much going, but have some dog food sprinkled here and there. Most... more>> of the stories were how MC tried to passed the exams (aka, makes money and take over the world as a villain should be lol)

Overall it’s a enjoyable read. Even though there’s alot of of things should’ve turn off your brain to read, but you can’t help but dig deep and looking forward what MC gonna do next. Thank you <<less

A really interesting and cunning FMC in a generic and aimless "academy" setting.

I can see why this novel has such a high rating— it has a godlike MC, and it's super fun to read about her wacky deeds and how the other characters react to them and her unprecedented luck.

Yeah, that's her talent, having an insane amount of luck, and it's actually awesome. It's the main driving force of the story and it makes everything way more enthralling.

Whenever she needs money, she will literally bump into a suitcase full of... more>> it. Is someone trying to kill her? Don't worry, she just starts dodging randomly and by her sheer amount of luck she will avoid every single attack.

She is so lucky that anything is possible, and the story could be heading to anywhere! And she's intelligent enough to make the most of it every time.

Spoiler

Oh, a rapist villain wants to torture her? It just so happens that he has a small penis, and there are security cameras right in the kitchen where he's raping another girl, and it includes a whole streaming setup. Now everyone knows he's a quick unloader.

Wait... what?

[collapse]

Now let's talk about the problems.

As the name of the novel suggests, there's a Villain School in the afterlife, and its goal is to reform villains from different eras, worlds and even novels into good people... or that's what they say. What we actually find is a nonsensical academy setting where the villains have to earn points to come back to life, yet it has nothing to do with becoming a samaritan.

As the description says, on the first day of the school, the classmate next to our MC warned her: "hey, u don't need to pay attention in class, the teacher just reads sutras all day, just memorise them. And be careful, people actually get killed here, like, all the time, just remember to avoid some of the most powerful villains"...

Excuse meeee, whaaat?

How is this school reforming villains if they don't get punished at all when they kill a classmate? Why is the graduation based on s*upid missions where the more powerful you are, the better chance you have to survive and earn points and get the hell out of the school? Yes, you can actually die on those missions, but I pity you, cause your teachers are more worried about you taking a living creature out of those exam worlds than you surviving the test.

Spoiler

Remember the rapist I mentioned earlier? Oh, he's just raping every cute girl he sees, as long as they're weak. Not sure how this dick-head hasn't been killed yet. I guess there isn't any reponsible person in the academy.

[collapse]

It could have been a really intriguing setting, making me wonder how each villain would become good, but no, it's just a subpar MOBA (multivillain on-school battle arena), where the villains battle each other for points and the school just streams their fights to their sponsors to earn some good money, as they don't have our MC's superpower.

And of course, the exams are just an excuse to take the novel to a new scenario with new rules and make everyone fall for our MC, as she displays her luck and her incredible analytical prowess.

That's a 5/5 MC in a 1/5 setting. Oh my.

And what's worse, they are all supposed to be the main villains who faced the MC of their respective worlds...

Spoiler

yet in the second exam, noone knows how to fight the ligui ghosts, not even the seasoned veterans, and they all need the MC to find the solution in the always-available school market. Are you telling me noone even tried to look for a useful item there? Are they so s*upid that they even forgot to use a basic function of the school? Has noone ever seen or fought against a similar monster in all the years they've been in the academy?

[collapse]

She makes everyone else look s*upid, and that has nothing to do with her luck.

The side characters up to this point are just either bootlickers, small fries who oppose the MC or the superpowerful interesting mysterious ice-cold villains who surely won't end up just serving our MC, right guys?

Spoiler

No, Xiao Xue Ji, you're not a side character.

[collapse]

I can't give this novel more than a 3.5/5, and that's just cause the MC is exceptionally good and the interactions are funny.

I'll change my review if it gets better.

Never got bored of it, but also never got the ultra satisfying kick out of it.

The plot is awesome, even though by the end it feels like not really well planned from the start. I guess it felt rushed.

The romance tag is slow, steady, and not the central gear in which the story moves, thus I like it. Quite nonexistent, actually.

So basically it is some "koi" girl or a super lucky girl who was judged as villain, died and got a second chance to reborn by entering the villain school.

But there is some point that is intriguing on the plot in the beginning.

So the MC is a super lucky girl, her data is a villain who drowned on famous and her luck and goes astray, jealous of heroine who beat her continuously try to do evil and fail been hated by harsh comment can't accept it then su*cide by jumping... more>> from the building.

The point is if she is a super lucky girl, why she always lose with some heroine. It is a very weird point from my opinion. And she died struck by thunder when she is not yet become a villain at all.

My guess is the heroine is some villain that success to live again after graduate from villain school. Then using some golden finger to steal our MC luck and brain power.

Then it makes sense why with the MC super luck attribute she died from thunder and got sent to villain school. Because by doing so, she also can rebirth and got a golden finger to shield from the 'villain turned heroine's cheat. <<less

Just. Wow. I'm so impressed.

I'm enjoying this novel so much. Never a boring moment with MC. The story world was so vast yet contained. It's like reading a mix of mystery-horror-action-puzzle games like The Witch's House, Ib, Fatal Frame etc with some otome game and comedy elements. Also, this villainy trope was used so uniquely by the author, so it's quite a treat if you like School for Good and Evil, or if you like a darker twist of Hogwarts' Legacy, or Alice in Borderland or plain ol' Squid Games.

The... more>> QT worlds are also written differently from what I usually read. This novel's a definite rec for people who like video games and fiction novels.

So good! It's goofy and fun. Lots of cute and interesting side characters :) I also love how the FL is shipped with literally everyone/thing she meets because she is so dynamic and charismatic 😂

No annoyingly contrived drama or frustrating misunderstandings. Also no romance as of yet. FL isn't annoyingly moral/righteous but also isn't a heartless b****. Also, I love how she subtly practices "women supporting women" 🥰😮‍💨 (ie not supporting blaming the other woman, supporting the torture and mu*der of rapists/abusers, and helping rebuild the life of abuse victims)... more>> (keyword: subtle. Because it's definitely not the focus but just a little point that made me happy)

also, basic plot is like: after death, villains are sent to this "school" to reform. Students have to take exams which are the "unlimited flow" part of the story. For certain reason, all the exams are broadcasted as individual students' live streams. Most of the story consists of the exams and live streams. Students in the exams cannot see the live streams or messages but everyone outside of the exam can.

totally reminds me of Scream Queen (except no boyfriend and she is less of a b**** (don't get me wrong tho, I love the FL from scream queen!)) Because both have FL that are pretty and look delicate but actually are pretty hardcore and never show fear and find some absurd way to solve every problem whilst gaining endless followers. They also refuse to suffer at all, they turn survival games into luxury vacations. <<less
