TL;DR: Started off strong as a weak-to-strong post-apocalyptic story but quickly turned into a Gary Stu power fantasy with a harem. Solid dialogue, but the comedy's a bit lacking. If you're expecting deep moral dilemmas and survival, you'll be disappointed. Overall, it's decent if you want something light and easy to read.

It started off with a lot of promise, like it was going to be one of those weak-to-strong stories set in a gritty post-apocalyptic world. But somewhere along the way, the author decided to turn the protagonist into a... more>> total Gary Stu. The shift in tone kind of threw me off. What could have been a deep dive into survival, the harshness of a dying world, and the moral complexities that come with it ended up being a wish-fulfillment power fantasy, complete with a harem.

Now, to be fair, the dialogue is solid. The conversations feel natural and flow well, but the comedy? It's so-so. I didn't find it as engaging as it could have been, especially considering the potential of the setup. There's this lingering feeling that the story was initially aiming for something more meaningful, something that would make you question the characters' choices and their will to survive in such a brutal world. Instead, it pivots towards a more generic plotline, where the protagonist becomes overwhelmingly powerful without much struggle.

That said, it's not all bad. It's decent for what it is, a casual power fantasy with some entertaining moments. If you're looking for something light and easy to read, it might be up your alley. But if you were expecting a more intense survival story that explores human nature and the darker side of a post-apocalyptic setting, this one might leave you wanting more.

PS. While I don't dislike harem genres, and I appreciate the usefulness of the heroines, their jealousy can be annoying. <<less

Apocalypse, Harem, Shounen, MetaFiction.

This novel starts with MC being average guy who gets a skill that pretty much tells him 'hey you've been living inside a novel your whole life.'

By reading comments he can get future information and he uses this to try and survive the apocalypse by meeting the original protagonist and creating a harem in the process.

A few people have already left pretty accurate descriptions of this novel so I won't go too in depth.

Yeah it starts off promising, but man does it trail off quickly. The seeing comments thing is interesting for a moment but is quickly reduced to stuff like 'we need to solve a riddle to open this door'. Cool I randomly chose a comment and it just happens to be the answer.

MC's skill makes him see the world as a novel and allows him to make cool and rational decisions (kinda of... more>> a 'cold blooded' trait). So basically he all of a sudden starts seeing his beautiful childhood friend and class bully as artificial humans created for the story and loses all emotion towards them.

Initially you think this could be interesting... Maybe MC will be indifferent to everybody and grow more human over time?

But nah MC completely forgets about this attitude in like 5 chapters and becomes a generic h**ny Korean protagonist. The ability is then relegated to blocking psychic attacks and keeping his d*ck in check when the girls start talking about each other's breasts in the shower next to him.

Basically it just turns from what seems like a gritty survival horror story into a competently written power fantasy harem manga where every guy hates MC and every girl is a supermodel who wants to bang him.

I don't hate harem and I don't think this novel is badly written per say, I just find absolutely no reason to keep reading it. <<less

Starts off with an interesting and relatively unique concept initially, but eventually devolves into a Gary Stu collecting his harem story with a life of plot conveniences and good luck - regardless of how well-justified the author may think it is - I just find it outright boring. The protagonist is also super ultra handsome and perceived as righteous by everyone who meets him and there is not a single woman in this story that doesn't want him bad. The author himself acknowledges that his first skill is a cheat... more>> skill in the Author's Note, but regardless he keeps getting more and more ridiculously overpowered skills and weapons.

Men for the most part are throwaway one note villains who are (a) trying to mu*der the protagonist or (b) have seggs with his harem or some combination of both. The author also mentions that the novel is going for a fourth wall-breaking concept primarily, but I don't think the humor is really on par to make that a selling point. I came for the yandere tag, but in the 46 chapters I've read nothings really developed beyond Hyena, a harem member, getting jealous in the same boring and repetitive way every time a new woman tries to seduce the protagonist.

The only remotely redeeming feature of the story is the semi-decent dialogue, but that's not enough for me to stick around.

TL;DR: If you want a generic harem power fantasy with an overpowered protagonist and semi-decent dialogue this is for you. <<less

This story should have been better than it is. It feels like it takes inspiration from ORV and the world building all seems pretty unique.

However, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind with the amount of times I've seen an author give their protagonist the "I have to be cool and expressionless" ability right at the start of a story. ENOUGH

I can't be the only one noticing this? I mean, this cannot be the best decision for any author when writing. It just reads so unbelievably boring. But... more>> I guess we all like our cool guys to be as stiff as bricks when they interact with anything.

Anyways, the story is pretty meh. World building is cool but the potential isn't realized. Characters are horrendous, and the action is decent.

Overall, I wish I was reading ORV. Missed opportunity, but let's be honest, this story failed the moment the author chose to make it a harem novel.
