I regressed because I was sick to death of their clinginess.

I vowed not to even speak to those b*tches this time around.

But… something about them seems different…

Another Academy Regressor harem novel. surprisingly good.

Let me start with who will like this, and who wont.

spoilers on pretty much all of this.

I recommend this for

Readers who enjoy dark regression stories with complex, borderline yandere heroines, don't mind (or actively seek out) very heavy and frequent smut interspersed with plot and action, and can overlook pacing issues caused by said content.

i DO NOT recommend this for

Readers who dislike gratuitous fanservice/smut, prefer consistent tone and pacing, are looking for a purely action-focused story, or are sensitive to themes of manipulation and questionable consent within romantic/s*xual contexts.

[collapse]

This novel is a ride, its got a fairly cool dark fantasy plot buried under... layers of other stuff. The core mystery and the MC's messed-up psychology are compelling. The girls are all kinds of crazy, which makes for good drama if you're into that yandere/obsessive type.

BUT. You absolutely cannot talk about this novel without talking about the smut. It defines the experience. It's not background spice; it's a main course that constantly interrupts the other main course (the plot).

Did I enjoy parts of it? Absolutely. Was I often frustrated by the pacing and the sheer amount of explicit content breaking the flow? Also yes.

It's... unique. And definitely not for everyone. Go in knowing it's like 50% dark plot/action and 50% hardcore erotica, and maybe you'll survive. Maybe.

Here's some details on what I liked and didn't like specifically, queue spoilers.

THE STRENGTHS, OH GOD

The power system is good, using Equivalent Exchange, the story forces MC to have a cost benefit decision quite often, allowing the author to "in the characters words" pick out the route to go, without it feeling like a self insert. The addition of Lightning God, Eve (>>:)), and the later soul-based mechanics make this system feel interesting.

On top of that, the threats are there. From the academy rivalry and the cult attacks and the god like beings, it sounds like a weird whimsy of "one thing to the next" but the MC is almost always outmatched, and forced to rely on his wits, sacrifice, and the witches themselves. And on to the witches

This is definitely a harem, the girls are fraught with obsession, manipulation, trauma bonding, and genuine, but twisted affection. The dynamics between the main heroines (I'll list them here so you know what to look for) is the driving force of the entire story.

Yuri, Seol, Soo-yeon, Se-ah, later Irena, Camilla, Eve, Sera

Worldbuilding is good, plot will slowly reveal the truth behind the regressions, the nature of the witches, sacrifices, the altar, the overarching conflict with Setia and Se-ah. its fairly nice.

THE BAD STUFF

Solutions appear conveniently, Se-ah's regression and interventions feel as if they guide the plot, and with artifacts and allies appearing at just the right moment, its a bit unappealing. On top of that, the pacing isn't in the right place. The story itself runs fast, but some arcs feel rushed on top of feeling fast, like the Kim Sung-ho conflict, and others can feel very repetitive.

the MC is very reactive in terms of figuring out the emotional landscape around him until sh*t hits the fan. It feels very typical and I just dont really like it too much. Guy's dense from the trauma.

AND HERE

I get to write a bigger more overarching opinion. This novel is a roller coaster. It will lure you in with familiar, tacky academy/regressor/harem elements but quickly goes past expectations with dark themes, morally grey characters, explicit stuff, and a heavy dose of manipulation. Its not perfect, but its a memorable and addictive read. I wouldn't wait for TL groups to translate. Learn Korean, or run the raws through an AI. <<less

Regression type story.

Simplistic writing that feels like a script rather than a story, zero description or detail. Extremely gamified setting, with system and skill menus galore for everyone (Be the first in your grade to do something? Get a permanent boost to "reward drop rate" and "skill proficiency gain" [sic]) despite how this is supposed to be a real world. Strength is determined by the skills you're born with (S Rank and so on), or in the case of the protagonist, given to him by the system with no choice... more>> on his part. Short interactions between characters, and none are well hashed out. Lack of an interesting main character/description of his backstory. If you're reading because of the s*x and R18 tags, sure it's there, but it's the lowest quality of smut imaginable.

Can't say I found anything worthwhile here, so that's the end of my review. <<less
