I Really Don’t Notice

Life isn’t dramatic.

Takasugi Shinsaku once mentioned, “The mind to bring interest to an otherwise uninteresting world”, but if you’ll let me have my say, “An otherwise uninteresting world is also interesting”.

The world is just right with this level of boredom.

That is the conclusion to the results of my, Kagoshima Akira’s seventeen years of lived experience.

It’s not like anything’s ever going to happen.

I mean.

Witches from other worlds,

and cyber soldiers paying a visit from the future,

and psychics fighting under the instruction of research institutions

don’t exist, after all.

This novel true to its tittle The MC don't Notice so for you who rate this story low because the MC dense as fuuuuuuuuuk, news flash it was in the f*cking tittle, if you hate dense Protagonist just avoid this story like plague.

The translation is good as expected from Yoraikun. Enough said.

The story is good I got some giggling from a couple of chapter but in the last of 2 chapter from volume 1 the comedy effect become less funny because author use the same comedy over and over (MC... more>> being dense and heroine make excuses).

I really want to give this 1 star but I notice the tittle of this story I Really Don't Notice so it was not the story's fault to have content like that and I don't like it. <<less

Ok, I'm not so great at reviews but I'll try.

The translation quality is pretty good, with only a few errors here and there that I noticed. It's nice that we were given the entire first volume to start us off.

So, the novel itself was "ok". The MC is surrounded by a time traveller, a person from another world, and an esper. These people have their own reasons for being there. All fighting some "enemy" who happens to choose that particuilar world/time/town to let loose their schemes.

Now, the main character is... more>> dense. Think Infinite Stratos x 1000. This MC does not notice ANYTHING.

Spoiler

MC has his arm lopped off, loses enough blood to almost die, gets healed with magic by a witch/ magic girl, MC faints, MC wakes up thinking it was a dream, MC can't move due to blood loss, the girl reaccounts what happened, girl realizes she messed up and tells him she found him asleep on the ground, MC believes her.

[collapse]

The logic in the spoiler is used throughout the novel. Sometimes even worse.

Spoiler

making a movie!? REALLY? How does that explain her FLYING.

[collapse]

The author gives a s*upid explanation for the MCs obliviousness as well. It's an explanation that, while answering WHY, leaves a lot to be desired in terms of plot. It's such a simple and s*upid reason.

I rated this 3 stars because while the MC was annoying, I didn't hate the rest of the characters.

This review seemed to turn into a rant more than anything. Sorry about that. Try this out if you think you can look past the obliviousness. <<less

I'm here after reading the synopsis at NUF

What can I say, so cliche and I'm kinda hurt from all that chuckling I did while I was reading this novel

This is one funny novel and it's surprisingly good

... more>> The first volume ended and left me with a satisfaction, this is kinda rare on today's novel since cliffhanger is almost everywhere and mysterious background becomes more and more general

To you people who's expecting a review here, I can say this one is comedy and a light read.

No twisting plot hard enough to fry your brain or whatsoever. This is a good read and binge read it if you can, with how volume 1 ended up, we can actually expect more on the next volume.

I give this a solid 4 since it can actually use a cliche topic/plot and turn it into something delicious. <<less

Gave it a 5 star because it's well written.

The first volume is an introduction to the real MC (the girls) and to display how ridiculous their lives are.

The cliches and what not surrounding our dense MC is just used as a contrast to how mundane his life is compared to the feMC and you should read this for the interaction between the characters and character development, pretty interesting and you kinda start to understand mc's denseness.

Hope translator doesn't drop this project and that there's a vol. 5 in the works.

The story is pretty much what's written in the synopsis and while it's full of cliché I still thought It was passable, a 4 star because it was somewhat original and I liked the fact that the MC generally was something akin to a bystander but then the author just had to give him some sort of unique "role" thus turning the story into a mediocre harem.

Of course this is just my opinion and other might like giving more importance, a true reason to fit into the big scheme to... more>> the protagonist, I'm just staying it's superfluos and that simple attraction between the girls and him was enought.

Hope this review is usefull <<less

I don't normally write reviews but this series deserves it. I will just say, if you think this will just be a generic harem comedy, you are wrong and should read it. If you want to know why you are wrong, read below and be warned that while I will try to avoid spoilers and be vague, some things have to be spoiled slightly to express what makes this series so good.

Spoiler

First and foremost, the premise. The premise of this book is fairly unique and is the main source of the comedy in the series as well as actually being fairly integral to the plot. Specifically that a character not noticing, or being literally unable to notice, the weird world around them is leads to many hilarious situations, usually born from misunderstandings, that will have you holding your stomach in laughter. These range from diaper play and fisting jokes, no I will not give context, to the main character seeing those around him as being potentially ill, depressingly lonely with a sort of split personality, or even a cosplaying exhibitionist for a super niche and unheard of manga series.

As for the plot I won't say much, but it reminds me in part of Neechan wa Chuunibyou and its discussions of worlds, stories, and characters, but with the twist that by not noticing and not participating actively or knowingly in a world, you are not dragged into that world knowingly or actively. I won't say much beyond that this is the mechanism that allows the main character to unintentionally build a harem full of unique girls like a psychic, time traveler, magician, and an onmyouji instead of being pulled into the world of just one of them.

The second point in regards to humor comes down to the members of the harem and the typical genres they represent being deconstructed to some extent, usually via trying to explain away their weirdness and at some times real introspection like living in different worlds, how things appear to an uninformed viewer, and the excuses to leave in a hurry to be heroes.

While I am trying to avoid spoilers here I will say that this next section is where some spoilers are needed, but I will try to keep them as vague as possible. One of the more serious and interesting parts of this series is the philosophy on display, particularly in regards to peoples feelings and how those feelings may change based on a persons perspective. Again similar to Neechan wa Chuunibyou, the series uses books as a metaphor to discuss a complex topic like godhood. Specifically with god being the author and everyone else affected by god as the reader. There is also some discussion of happiness and morality, specifically in if the wicked deserve happiness and who should make that decision and from what viewpoint someone would judge such a discussion.

I can't say much more without really spoiling things so I will just outline why I only gave such a good series a 4/5 instead of a 5/5. This is due to some perceived contradictions between characters ideals and actions that are seemingly glossed over for a "greater good" reasoning, as well as some minor but interesting loose plot threads. Specifically the future of the time traveler, as in what they will do once their mission ends;, the implied love of the harem with only one real confession and lots of hints, what the main characters parents do for a living as they are always overseas and send rather large sum of money, 100, 000 yen or $1, 769, 989 every 3 months in hard cash, and a passive reference to avoiding banks because of money laundering;, and the real backstory of a certain side character that is usually portrayed as a puppet.

This novel is quite interesting, going from all casual, all the way too way too serious at the end. I think its worth a read, got me hooked till the end!

It's well written and a light and easy read.

It's also not meant to be taken seriously. The last volume feels like a write pull, but I like that all loose ends are tied up. I don't like brickt-agonists, but the MC here is a cool guy who actually has a real good reason to be a brick.

4/5. A cool read with no regrets, and I do like the characters
