Meh

The author just keep writing on and on about something insignificant for over 10 sentences. (Eg. She keeps writing about his father shop like how he does, what he sell, what is it, bla bla). I thought this would be interesting after reading description, so I gave it a try. But I feel bored, even though I have been skipping and scrolling a lot, it still hasn't ended. It would be great if the author didn't try to do a longer paragraph by writing something the same thing over and... more>> over again for multiple times. <<less

Its ok, I won't rate it since I can see other people liking this but it's not for me. I enjoyed the majority of it but the beginning 20 chapters and when they get abit hypocritical are too much sometimes. There's a lot of things that made me go '???' but I can stomach it. The overall novel is still fluid, easy to read and goes by quickly. Overall the story is fun, but you have to grind your teeth to get through the first 20 chapters

Hello, I'm the translator of this novel, here to give you a short idea of what to expect.

So, although this novel does have ghosts as a core factor, it is by no means scary. Our main character starts off very scared of ghosts, but in fact, most ghosts in the story will be friendly, and there will be no horror elements to the story.

What you CAN find in this novel, however, is a MC that very satisfyingly makes himself stronger to protect himself and his loved ones, and all in... more>> all characters with a LOT of personality. Be it Ruan Bei himself, our ML, or even side characters like their family members, I personally found all of them extremely fun to get to know in their own way.

I'll put the next paragraph under spoiler just in case, but it's a very generalized statement on the ghosts we'll encounter during the story.

So, I will warn you right here that the stories of the ghosts Ruan Bei befriends are often very sad. However, I assure you that everyone that deserves a better ending will get one by the end of the novel, or even earlier.

I have conflicting thoughts about this novel. I enjoyed it enough to MTL and finish, but there are parts that really felt lackluster.

MC- he is fine, typical sweet, pretty, everyone loves him type. He does have his own cultivation, but of course he has to rely on the big strong ML. Loved him to begin with, but got tired of him towards the end.

ML- only 1 year older, kind of cold and tad possessive, but mostly just a teenager in love. His cultivation is really strong. He is okay.... more>>

Their romance was fine, nothing groundbreaking or overly sweet, but was just enough in this type of story. The whole I can put myself in harms way but you be good and stay here part was an eye roll.

If I rated this novel just for the first part up until first year of college, I would say its a solid 4. The later half though really left me unfulfilled and disinterested.

The later face slapping parts felt very juvenile to me. I didn't get any satisfaction from MCs revenge and at times his revenge seemed ooc.

The ending is rushed and is basically an overview. It seems a bit disorganized and disjointed. This author really struggles with transitions and has a habit of being overly wordy. A whole chapter can be spent saying the same thing, but in a different way.

The whole Song Jiaxi part rubbed me the wrong way and I think a Chinese netizen commented best about it

As a victim, the recipient has the right to not forgive and hate Song.

As a bystander, the reader has the right to pity Song, who has not yet turned bad.

The two are not in conflict. I don't understand why being pitiful should be called a saint.

Not everyone reads novels from the perspective of the protagonist.

Most of them are bystanders. Does it have to be based on the protagonist's likes and dislikes?

I just think the addition of Song in this type of feel good black and white novel was misplaced. His extra was also kind of weird, would have rather him just moved on.

Lastly the whole big reveal and subsequent followup was a big yawn.

I will say finding out the uncle from the sect not only had a crush on MLs mom, but his dad too was a twist I never saw coming.

If you can, I would wait for the translation to come out. Most of it is easy to MTL, but towards the end there are so many names and ghost cultivation terms that can get confusing. When/if this is ever translated I will probably give it another go and see if my rating increases.

MC and ML aren't dense, they just take a while to poke the paper. MC tells his roommate he wants to wait until his 18th bday to confess as puppy love is a nono, but really it's because MC wants to deal with the switched at borth stuff first as to not drag ML down. ML over hears this and his happy and the confession from them both happen on MC 18th bday

come to find out they were not switched at birth. LS is literally the dove occupying the magpie's nest. MC was thrown in a tr*shcan and adopted by the Ruan family, that is why LS keeps trying to kill the Ruan parents, because they can tell the truth that LS was put there.

the whole thing is because a woman who was MLs moms junior sister was in love with ML dad and the junior sisters distant cousin who is MLs sect uncle was in love with the mom and dad. They leave in defeat to wander and in the process the junior sister gets hit with an aphrodisiac and the distant cousin refuses to "cure" it, even though she just saved his life.

He leaves her there and from what I can tell she gets knocked up by a ghost? This is why LS needs MCs luck. Then it comes out that LS is just a body cultivated by the jr sister and the Ghost King for the Ghost King to take over, but he needs yin yang eyes... not sure why, that part is unclear.

The jr sister was the offspring of a good sect that went evil trying to transplant yin Yang eyes and she and her brother are using the Ghost King as an experiment to see if it will work and if so the brother will use it to fix his blindness (honestly I kind of lost interest here and not sure exactly what flimsy reason the author was trying to push).

They kill the ghost king easily and then fall into the last layer of the formation where MC of course befriends the judge of underworld and they find a substance that is blocking the yellow road and it of course it brings China to the top. Then ML sets up a business in the underworld.

Endings

MC and ML are winners in everything they do and everyone loves them

LS become a waste. Mr Lu divorces his wife and brother Lu gets dumped. Really not sure why they got off light

Song gets a dream of his previous life and realizes why MC hates him. LS did save him in the previous life, but it was later and LS waited until Song was almost naked to save the day. He stays away from MC, but is still obsessed. He does get married, travel and have kids, but follows everything MC does. MC talks to him when they are 50 and he breaks down crying. Would have rather seen him truly get better and move on.

1 roommate is completely forgotten and the other gets his own extras, but didn't read them, was pretty done with the story after the Song extra.

The jr sister commits su*cide, but she doesn't turn into a ghost, I guess?

The distant cousin (ML sect uncle) gets forced into writing arrays for the bureau as punishment.

The school ghost gets recognition after the world learns ghosts are real. He make a lot of contributions to the country academically

The white bone ghost willingly goes to the underworld with some lackys and will most likely be like a type of police

Nuinui is reborn to a teen mom who abandoned the baby, MC and ML adopt her. Not sure about the dog, he the baby next to nuinui?

Mrs and Mr Ran rebirth together and are fated to love again.

MC family is fine I guess, they don't get much mention.

This is a great book! The reborn protagonist focuses on his current life, without any grandiose plans of revenge or getting rich quickly. He simply lives happily with his family and best friend, making up for all that he missed and lost before. His friendship with Qin Gu is soft and gentle, with a full trust and honesty, which is rare. The Ruan family and the Ran family are full of colorful, lively characters. The ghosts are all well-characterised, with their own purpose in the plot; from the summary I... more>> was afraid this would turn into a mystery-of-the-week story, which thankfully didn't happen.

It was also very nice and refreshing to see a "true young master returned" never forgetting about his birth family but actually preferring them all along and attempting to go back since the birth family were scumbags. <<less

I like that the MC and ML are not OP and all-knowing. They're just entering adulthood and though they're talented, they don't have the experience, influence and power yet. When dealing with problems that are beyond their capabilities, they do ask for help from their elders and seniors.

Such as when fighting against a ghost king, MC did not use the chain on the ghost king because he feared he'd just get dragged away by it. But once his powerful senior brother arrived, he tied the ghost king with the chain and passed the chain to his senior brother, daring it to drag his senior brother away.

The story is not just about face-slapping MC's biological family who mistreated him in his last life. He mostly wanted to avoid them and live happily with his adopted family. Along the way, he learnt that he has talent in learning cultivation to deal with ghosts and he became like a ghost whisperer.

The extra contains the aftermath of MC's death in his past life. His biological family and the fake son did not have a HE after MC's death. ML avenged MC before dying himself.
