The journey to save the world of the hero who was liked by the last boss!

Just before the battle against the demon god【 Demiurge 】that destroys the world, the hero Ares is hated by his friends and is left alone. In fact, it was because he couldn’t get his friends to join him in the fight against the last boss who might not make it out alive, so he dared to play the role of the hated one to get them to leave him. Ares, who had to fight【 Demiurge 】alone, was supposed to restore to peace in exchange for his life…… but somehow he is still alive, and next to him is the Last Boss. I was enjoying this WN at the beginning. At the time I didn't think it was bad, after all, I was enjoying reading it. But then everything changed. I won't even talk about the story because it's mediocre at best. Nothing is happening, it's like a never-ending prologue.

TL;DR: I read ahead of the translation but since chapters aren't enumerated I didn't pay attention to it. I'll just say... The harem is goddamn awful. It felt forced even if it was "accepted by the main wife". Such an easy way to... more>> start a generic story. If you harem and give 0 f*cks about the relationships themselves. Read it, you may at least find it entertaining.

I recently mulled over "Why do I hate harem stories so much but at the same time enjoy some of them?" and got to the obvious conclusion that I have 2 different ways of deciding it.
*If the relationship development convinces me. (if the harem doesn't increase for s*upid reasons)
*If it's a novel with a focus on "Ero" like Shinmai Maou, DxD, Incubus Banishment, Musou Gakuen, etc.

This doesn't have any of the two.
The MC is devoted to the FL and constantly repeats "I only love her", "I won't be with anyone else". One would expect that the story would end with only them together but no, they decided the s*upidest way to add someone to the harem and it's the worst possible one to choose. Heck, I would even accept his ex-party over her...
I can't say I dislike the MC saying that kind of stuff and then going against it. The problem is that it was handled in the worst way possible.

----Unpopular opinion----
If I were to compare the whole development of the MC of this novel with "Hajime" from Arifureta up to the point of accepting someone else than the FL and starting the harem, the latter was handled 100 times better. It had a good progression up to that point and (even if some may bit*h about it) it was deserved, made sense, and it had a point.
This one has none of that. Just force a harem because I don't know how to write a story with only one winning girl while having a lot of waifu thirsting over the MC. Just take a page out of SAO. If that author (who isn't the best writer) knows how to make it, everyone should. <<less

No harem till ~100 chapters
Typical JP plot point of self-sacrifice and protag trying take the burden of everything upon himself. Gradually lets others help him as he develops. MC generally just goes with the flow of things and just wants everyone to be happy.

There are some heavier plots, but mostly just sugar and fluffy SOL and romance.

Currently in the process of taking over the translation with Travis as previous TL dropped it, but this is my first MTL so things could always change.

Edit: Sorry, MTLs are hard with school.

This book is just not really that good. I like the concept but it feels like the author isn't a very good writer, there are just countless plot devices in this book that just feel off and represent that not much thought has gone into making the world building. The fight scenes feel sub-par and poorly done, the character development like his party members still liking him after 2 years, overall its hard to explain but its like every single character is just an idiot with the way they act.... more>> Every single enemy is overconfident and s*upid, the main character acts like a 15 year old boy, its hard to explain but its just written in a way where I cannot care about any of the characters for any reason... I think it had a good starting point but its just not enjoyable to read. <<less

For now the story seems interesting. Right now, it is very slice of life. There are some world building elements. The MC has a goal now but I don't see any threats that can really affect the MC yet. However, it has good potential.

Update:

I read till 90th chapter which is very close to the chapters released till now and I have to drop the rating to 2.5 stars. Mainly because

  • The story is very slow paced.
  • I know I am only reading because I want to find out the reaction of the original hero party when they meet him.
  • There is not much happening in the story right now.
  • The MC is too timid and indecisive for me. There is no need to keep looking down on yourself.
  • A lot of things don't make sense. Since, the MC was a hero and so strong, why does he need to use the powers of the monsters and the FL?
  • The most frustrating and in my opinion forced part is the harem. The MC was reluctant to do it and so was the FL but no, it had to happen, so it did.
  • The translations are decent but could have been better.
The translations were already very slow but now they are dropped. So, I am not sure, what will happen to this story.

Where to start with this train wreck? The story was good... for like 4 chapters, then we get an MC who becomes the very personification of "beta male". It's infuriating.

The harem is forced, and makes little sense. The members of said harem have the personalities of a block of wood, and the story itself would not suffer in the slightest if everyone but demiurge was removed entirely.

I gave a ln extra star, for 2, because the translation is good. So good job, and tha ks for your effort.

The thing I dont like about this story is the side characters. Especially the Tree Spirit. They pretty much only exist to interrupt the MC and his wife's intimacy.

There is this one scene were the tree spirit interrupts the main character and Demiurge bathing, and another were she comes into the mc's room and makes him allow her to wash him or she will make it seem like he put his hands on her.

The other side characters are meh. They have some stuff but they pretty much are there to add some non romance scenes and add spice.
Otherwise cute asf.

I don't even know how powerfull MC is, creator God also very weak lol (maybe cuz she's always supply her mana to world tree)

MC (Hero) can copy all job he has seen, that's pretty much on demi God level & now also can use some creator God power but still, I don't really can scale/rate his power. He easily defeat 2 SS demon but he just use very little skill like first he use elementary skill and a second later use ultimate skill

I can't take it. 4 chapters and you're like oh yes this story is decent and it even goes to put your mind at ease. Then starts the next part of life and even if his act was a facade out of nowhere he who is a hero where I've not read was transported or reincarnated. He may be. Quit being a virg*n and at least listen. Sorry for me I'm out dropping it before chapter 13. Also give the main protagonist a damn name. It's a slice of life story. It has some potential for wish fulfillment reading, and simple fluff/sugar enjoyment. Currently, the story is a bit of a quick read and the chapters are quite short. The MC is pretty typical JP one in that he is embarrassed of women and also has a bunch of women in love with him. Story isn't an actual harem as of now, but if you aren't a fan of the genre I'd stay away. It reminds me a lot of "Hazure Skill" but if the... more>> MC was a virg*n.

One thing to note is the mixed translation quality. It's mostly mistakes with the gendered pronouns (using him instead of her) but there are one or two parts that are hard to follow as a result. Usually, there's no problems for me in reading, but I know people who can't stand that kind of stuff. <<less
