Su Yu, who was attempting to create a second account in the VR trading card game “Yu-Gi-Oh! World Link Online”, inexplicably traveled to the game world, and even had his own NPC identity.

Time went back to one month before the game was launched, the nameless Pharaoh was still sleeping in the body of the high school student Yugi Muto, and the Duel City with cross-generational significance had not yet started.

When the game was officially launched, players logged in and found that there was a new NPC in the game that was not in the original game.

Yuei Vu: Do the players over there want to buy a booster box? Fifty-one packs, five hundred and ten cards, fair price, no cashback!

The players stared directly at the Pot of Greed marked as UR in the product list, their eyes were burning, and the same thoughts came into their minds…

A wonderful fanfiction that was written with care by the author. The duels were well choreographed and the story was planned out with the world and readers in mind. The story can be divided into three eras of DM, GX, and 5DS.

My original readthrough was an odd one as I didn't totally read DM before skipping straight to the end of 5DS (catching chapters here and there looking for familiarity.) Funny thing is that this attempt to skip boredom ended up helping reignite my fire for the series as I... more>> was fond of the way the story tried to end things. When I went back to read the whole story from scratch, I didn't skip a single chapter and gave the story a full recommendation.

If you can, read the author's closing thoughts. The changes in the story will make a whole lot more sense. The author really looked at the story of Yu-Gi-Oh! And tried to improve it where he can. GX was a good example as it now looks like a true sequel to DM and is no longer a spin-off.

I consider myself pretty proficient at yugioh having played the game for nearly 10 years. However, the sheer amount of research and knowledge the author has about the tv shows, world, and game itself is seriously impressive. I don't even care about the story anymore, I just want to see what tactics and combos the MC does in each duel.

Top tier fan fiction that have all the background, character and skill levels true to their source material. A very rare and well made fanfiction that shows how much research and high level of understanding the author have on the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Media franchise (the author research everything, from the manga, to anime, to movie and real card game effect).

A well made Chinese fan fiction novel is truly hard to find where I have seen authors taking away the core characters of the... more>> characters and only using very shallow understanding of the original character, or even replace the character's character at all. (Making Nami from one piece a man chasing sl*t, making Sabo from OP a prideful-chinese-young-master, making the spider group from HxH very tyranical and controling and gerald from the witcher is a cultivator, Tony stark from Marvel is ONLY an arrogant brat that can invent stuff and no care for human being and other shitshow)

But this is a good one so I very recommend it <<less

Love the novel, love the translation. The person who's doing the translation keep up the good work.

Honestly speaking people, I would say this is the only decent YU-GI-OH Fanfic story you'll ever find at the time I'm writing this comment.

The reason being is that the novel has integrated with the lore of YU-GI-OH down to tiniest of details and added their own spin to it.

I mean do you know how hard it is to write a novel based of a visual animated show?! Not to mention that the Animated show... more>> is a card game my God l wonder how long it took the author to write the chapters while watching the YU-GI-OH episodes and researched non anime effect cards for the duel scenes.

This webnovel by far is the only one that has been able to write duel scenes decently.

The comedy is hilarious though it does get a bit too Chinese troupey at times but overall it's great. <<less

Read a review saying the fic gets worse after c150. Well Idk if it does since the current translation isn't there, but so far the fic takes heavy inspiration from Legendary Mechanic. However, it isn't to the s*upid degree of using the player base as a unthinking hive to further his objectives. So far there just there to... honestly I have no idea why they're even here. The fic has yet to use any of the players in a big meaningful way, and even when they're brought up in individual... more>> POVs, I tend to skip the entire chapter so I can read the MCs POV.

So the issue is that you can skip about 15% of the story and still understand what is going on. The players are boring enough that you don't have to waste time reading about them, and there are too many battles back to back. I wish to see more world building or character development in breaks between fights. Not reading every individual fight in the tournament of the current arc.

However, the fic does have an original story. The author isn't scared to step away from canon to make an original plot. There is a duel spirit waifu, so its pretty nice to read.

Look just wait a year to binge a decent chunk of this, or go to the raw site and either read MTL or read it raw cause you know Chinese.

Early on it's pretty solid, but I feel like players were just shoehorned in and only kept in place with some random glob of adhesive, like I love how it has NPC protag and access to the 'Forums', heck it has great comedic aspects, but it really felt that it's just a self-insert story with players added cause why not?.... Early... more>> on the chapters felt nice and long, but around 150? it felt like standard Chinese length story and subsequently shorter... The story is good, just the whole system and players were added for no particular reason in my books, it probably would've benefited if it explored the aspect more, explained some things better, and if it told us why only the MC can sell cards beyond "cause he has a system" (at least show players questioning that on the forums). Otherwise it could just not do the players, redid the players, or just completely redo the system cause it is not mentioned further other than "MC used all currency and barely got anything even tho it was pivotal to the player winning, because of eternal bad luck stat doesn't beat plot"... oh and even though the MC came from the future, he doesn't really abuse his knowledge I don't think, but I can't say for the rest of the book

If I had one more thing to say, it just feels like the MC read Legendary Mechanic and was like "Ok, lemme take a bit of that to make it into my own thing"
Giving players random tasks that seem to serve no purpose
Loyal beta tester player that follow MC's every command cause quests
A streamer that has a fanbase and also follows the MC
MC is treated as a god by the players
MC runs a player store as an NPC
MC takes the money he receives from players to strengthen himself in someway usually beneficial

Closing thoughts, the book could be better, and I do like seeing scenarios of where the MC is a NPC or a gameworld that ain't Otome or JRPG, but yeah everything could be done way better instead of what felt like self-insert with players plastered into it... 3.6 it's a good time waster, but ugh the translations are too slow like seriously do you want to take 1000+ days to release something completed?? <<less

Honestly, I had my doubts as fanfiction is not really my thing as I prefer original works and even world hopping webnovels which reference real world fiction puts me off. But as an old Yu-Gi-Oh fan this was just the nostalgia hit for me. It mixes the (cringe?) comedic style of writing of Chinese webnovels with well thought out duels reminiscent of the original anime.

Sure some the characters don't act exactly as we expect them as the novel doesn't play them for straight, but it's highly entertaining as the author... more>> is faithful to the original events of the work. It's clear the author is a big fan and did his research, he uses a variety of cards some from the real TCG and others from the anime, there's even an in-universe explanation for how main characters are able to draw exactly what they want. He further pokes fun at some of the plot holes of the original anime and how unreasonable some of the cards were.

I recommend reading if you were a fan of the original card game and animation and don't mind the casual, almost gag comedy, style of writing and commentary. <<less

Just wow.

I can't believe I didn't discover this Fanfiction sooner. I literally have an FFnet archive where I collected every YGO Isekai I could find across DM and its spinoffs. I've found many gems, but this story blows them all out of the water. "I Play Yugioh" is easily my favorite YGO Isekai Fanfiction, possibly my favorite Yugioh Fanfiction overall. It combines all the different source materials (whacky anime hijinks, irl play strategies, manga characters, etc.) so naturally and well.

A major part of my favorable impression comes from The Legendary... more>> Mechanic being my #1 webnovel, which this Fanfiction heavily reminds me of. It has levels, players, player forums, time travel, power progression, a crafty MC who uses the aforementioned players as a piggy bank, etc.

The other part is the fact that

Dark Magician Girl, the #1 Waifu of my Heart since childhood, is given so much spotlight as Su Yu's spirit partner. All her scenes are adorable.

Of course, this story isn't perfect. I believe there are too many back-to-back Duels, often with unimportant characters that no one cares about. Additionally, the Players often overstay their welcome or have too much focus dedicated to them. In many cases, I believe the story would be better without the Players. Further, although I am very fond of the Decks that Author chose for the main character, they, too, overstay their welcome. Especially since the MC is using cards from a future Era, which makes his wins feel a little cheaper than if he struggled with an existing cardpool. Like, don't get me wrong, basically every Yugioh fanfiction writer (myself included) adds future archetypes, future forms, support, etc. But it's just a little unfortunate when the cards are just clearly above the canon cast's options.

I actually really want to write Recursive Fanfiction of this, replacing Su Yu with a different transmigrated Player. Perhaps even starting the story in time for the MC to participate in Duelist Kingdom. I know it won't hold a candle to this stunning piece of art, but even so, I may give it a try.

Looks good. Its fun to read. It feels like yu-gi-oh. The other writes it in a way that makes me think like I am watching one of the episodes. I am looking forward to another chapter. If you have seen the anime give it a try and see if you like it.

And I admit this is the best yugioh story that I have ever read

The ending is very satisfying

I recommend this to all for readers out there

Even though the XYZ, Pendulum, and Link is not included. This story hit all the right spots for me. And actually I really like this story turned out
