Who left all these one star ratings? Take that with a pinch of salt, I honestly found this novel refreshing and enjoyable.

This is a story of a past toxic relationship gone wrong for the right reasons and also a story of growth and reconciliation. I know the summary sounds comedic, and while this novel is relatively light hearted for the most part (in the sense that’s there’s no heavy angst) it’s still on the more serious side than funny.

The ML (the shou) has a terrible, possessive personality and sort of monopolizes the MC (the gong) from childhood. They are each other’s only friends and they have a somewhat toxic, codependent relationship (they start off as friends but then date later on). The MC ‘hates’ the ML but slowly falls in love with him. Meanwhile, the ML realizes that he’s being an as*hole and wants the MC to be free of him and live his own life, not knowing the MC’s feelings, and so he breaks up with him.

I really like how the CP start off angry and unable to communicate with each other, but then slowly open up and be honest with their thoughts. I like that there are shitty characters who aren’t ‘shitty but secretly good inside’ and who genuinely are trying to be better. I also like that there are sweet moments, bitter moments, and tense moments - a short story that has substance.
