Despite having found Mingxi, the Zhao family continued to favor the fake daughter, saying that Mingxi was not as kind nor as graceful as Zhao Yuan.

Mingxi didn’t mind. She continued to work hard to please her family although they would always say that she was trying to rob their attention away from Zhao Yuan.

Until she died because of a terminal illness.

It was then that she realized that Zhao Yuan was the actual lady blessed by luck while she was merely this novel’s evil supporting character with a tragic ending.

Zhao Mingxi who was given a second chance at life was bitterly disappointed. She no longer cared about her family. Screw her family and her fiancé. She immediately packed her bags and left home, off to complete the task given by the system named ‘Becoming Friends With Popular and Valuable Characters’.

After she left, the house suddenly became cold and quiet.

By right they should feel at ease, but–

Her parents, her indifferent elder brother, her brash younger brother, Shen Liyao who was used to her pursuits were all successively feeling… unused to it?

Honestly it’s an okay or a “watever” story. The beginning and the build up was mid? Like I really loved and enjoy seeing drama within the family Ngl, I loved how regrets and anguish but the reveal of the nanny and yuan was kinda lack luster. Not much punishment here and there in my opinion. I like that the MC was really resolute with her decisions but I often wonder if she can even feel or have any inkling of feelings towards her family but yea.

Romance wise, maybe with how... more>> the ML is in story’s, their relationship might last. If there was anyone like ML in the real world tho, I don’t think he’ll be pulling much girls at all with just his riches. He’s very immature. A lot of the guys portrayed in this story are very prideful, rude and ill mannered. I guess you can argue ML gets better later on but tbh I just don’t like the dynamic of him and MCs rs. It feels... off? Or she’s just kinda showing me a side that hits too close to home with how some girls are often like within relationships in the real world. That, I’ll give to her but overall, I’m not too much a fan of their rs is all. Not my cup of tea. <<less

I think the reason I gave this 5-stars is because of the the extra of her previous life. I cried, reading what MC had to go through to be free of her family and then reading that extra... it felt like something broke inside of me. I truly think this is worth the read. I am an avid re-reader of a lot of books, this is one of them.

I honestly really liked it. The only reason why I am not giving it 5 stars is because I want to reserve those to books that change me as a person. I found the book very entertaining and finished it in two days. I love how the female lead was able to leave. There are some moments that I found a bit annoying due to lack of communication but that's pretty typical so I don't care that much. It does last for a while but I was able to finish... more>> that part pretty quickly. The attitude of the female lead is right up my valley. She is able to get what she wants and love her attitude about not caring. Her family is pretty awful so be ready to be infuriated. The male lead cares about her deeply but puts up the attitude of 'I don't care about you'. If you don't like that then you can still read it but you might not enjoy it as much.

This is my first review so be careful because there are spoilers below and idk if I actually made it so it had the spoilers hidden.

Spoiler

Here I am going to get deeper into details about the story. To be honest, I hated almost everyone from the family. The only person who I started feeling sorry for was the little brother. They all neglected the FL which is pretty typical but then they expected her to just forgive and forget. The girl who replaced FL was pretty bad but the way the author got rid of her at the end was completely unnecessary. I hate the way that the whole family turned her back on her. In the end, the FL did not go back to her family which I really I appreciated.

Overall, the book was really enjoyable and highly recommend. <<less

Good and sweet novel. I read it continuously for 2 days and didn't get bored at all.

The relationship between them is cute and healthy.
Spoiler

I loved how active the FL was in the relationship. In most of other Chinese novel's the ML would try to stick with FL and pamper them everyday and FL would take it granted. But in this novel I saw they are mutual, both of them are trying to understand what is love and how to love, which makes it hundred times sweet

[collapse]

I like how stubborn the FL is
Spoiler

and liked the fact that she did not reconcile with her family

[collapse]

Overall, I was hesitating to read this in the beginning but I'm happy that I was not too late. It was a sweet journey.

Thank you for writing this amazing novel. Thank you for translating it. 5 out of 5.

A surprisingly refreshing read!

Compared to your usual FLs, our FL here is shameless in leeching off the ML. It is justified cause he's her literal lifeline, though. And it's not like she treats him badly either, though her intentions are insincere at first... but when the feelings come out, unlike our usual dense FL she is very quick to acknowledge them! In fact, she's pretty savvy, and it's clear that she knows what she's doing. And afterwards it's clear to see how she steps forward to help and protect the... more>> ML when she can.

The ML is pure in comparison. He's also a massive tsundere, and FL teases him endlessly for it. That's another thing! She doesn't fall for his tsundere routine - in fact she susses it out pretty quickly, and then proceeds to tease him either directly, or playing along til he combusts. No exhausting misunderstandings - on her side, at least. ML is a melodramatic fool at times, which leaves him frustratingly cute.

Also, I actually like how the FL's abuse isn't discounted... it satisfied my vengeful side, reading anecdotes of how faithful she used to be vs her completely ambivalent treatment now. Gods, that was satisfying to page through. The retribution felt justified enough, to have her family stare at her afar in regret. I can't help but feel the whole 'protagonist halo' thing might have screwed with things... which makes me a little sympathetic. Just a little.

Spoiler

Speaking of, my only qualm about this was the progress of the white buds... The system told her that she needed to reach like 500 to remove the 'protagonist halo' buff, but you can see things already start to fall apart for the orig!FL when it was at like 30 buds or so.. like, was her support base seriously that fragile?? Just felt kinda weird things started going 'right' long before the system said it should, lol.

When I first started reading this, although I expected that it's not as lighthearted as I want, I still thought it won't be so dramatic. I was wrong huhuhu. But even so, when the ML appeared, my first thought was, "another shy and puppy-like ML! So cute!" Then I was slapped by the reality when the ML's tragic past was revealed. I honestly thought that to have such innocence, he grew up in a spoiled environment, but nah. It went to the typical plot of "the ML should have a... more>> tragic or traumatizing past to give his character more depth" route. But nevertheless, I still like how pure and persistent his love is. His past was indeed heartbreaking but he still retain such unconditional love. He didn't blame the FL when he misunderstood her actions. He was cautious the second time and he got hurt (well, mostly because of his imagination) but still, he never thought of giving up. He's really my favorite in this story.

However, I got quite annoyed when there's a major misunderstanding here. I mean, it's kinda normal to have the ML or FL to misunderstood each other like not knowing that one likes the other or something, it's cute and funny, but not if there's a third party involved. But either way, it just slightly puts me off and although it took quite some time for them to finally understood each other's feelings, it's fine. And just like how they are so cute at the beginning, they're also soooo adorable when they like each other. Their shyness and cautiousness of having a puppy love and first relationship during your youth were vividly displayed. The feelings and their emotions greatly appealed to the readers.

Now, regarding the FL, well, she's fine. But what I like the most about her is how she's decisive enough. Cause you know, usually with the kind of similar plot like this, sometimes the FL will forgive her family once they show love to her after she got reborn, setting aside how she was treated badly. And it's not that I hate it so much but I am not that magnanimous so I really like how this story's FL, Zhao Mingxi, didn't forgot her grievances and gave her biological family a second chance. Also, another sign of her decisiveness was when she realized she liked FYX, although she's brooding whether he likes her back or not, she still show him she likes him (albeit both of them are dense haiz)

Regarding about the Zhao Family, I don't really feel bad about them. I dislike all of them (although my dislike for Zhao Yuning isn't as great as my dislike for the rest, it's still there). They really don't deserve a second chance tbh, especially their parents. I understand that they have some feelings for the girl they raised for 15 years, but to be blatantly biased like that and they all think that it's okay for their biological child? What kind of mentality was that? And don't get me started with that white lotus fake daughter. Yes, she's innocent with the matter of being swapped but how about when she framed and ostracized the FL? You can't say that it's because she was spoiled that it resulted to that behavior. Sure, she was spoiled, but instead of feeling guilty or whatsoever that she occupied someone else's spot, she wants the real daughter to be isolated instead? Even if she's innocent at birth, her consequent actions isn't. Being jealous is normal, but letting your jealousy take over you to harm someone else is not. We can blame her family for spoiling her but no one told her to harm the FL, it's her own action and decision. She's not innocent. Even her lackey/former friend Pu Shuang thought of apologizing to the FL when she realized she's wrong but Zhao Yuan only blamed the FL, no regrets for her mistakes at all.
Spoiler

She even tried to kill the FL with arson.

[collapse]

And lastly, the plot. It has 3 of the most popular plot these days, (i.e., rebirth, system administrator, real-fake daughter scenario), however, if we're going to look throughly, regarding her rebirth, well, it's just that. She didn't suddenly became a business/painting/medical/etc. Genius. Just reborn with a system. And the system is actually not a golden finger. It doesn't also have much exposure nor is an integral part of the story. It's just there to help the FL get rid of her villainess halo. And lastly, the real-fake daughter, I already said it, I'm very happy that she didn't fight the white lotus fake daughter to gain her biological family's affection because they're not worth it.

Overall, it's 8/10 for me. As it's actually a little cliché for me and it isn't as lighthearted nor refreshing as I thought it'll be, I'm tempted to lower my rating but I feel bad for the ML, mah shy and cute little boy. <<less

Finally a novel that I could finish reading after a long time keep on dropping so many other novels.

The thing that I like the most was both our Female Lead & Male Lead were out of the box characters. I love this pairing.

Also I liked the fact that the novel timeline was already "passed" the tragic story, so it was truly lighthearted reading! (Funnily the saddest part was in one of the extra chapter, the backstory of FL's first life lol *crying*)

Plot: 3/5

A simple but hilarious story about who girl who regresses in time and tries to fight off the Female Lead Halo of her adopted sister.

The main couple were genuinely so funny and romantic. The "misunderstandings" they had were understandable and comedic, not irritating at all.

I love this story but I'm bothered about how unrealistic it feels that the MC became #1 in her province during the interschool competition. Although her own school's top-scorer was distracted and thus underperformed, it can't be that the top students of other schools had problems too.

This is a very minor detail, but it distracted me so much because it seemed the MC's increasing luck caused her competitors' braincells to go down. She WAS studying very hars, but again, so were her rivals who had years of competition experience ahead of her. Her studying under a famous professor CAN be a reason, but that wasn't really showed at all. That's why it feels so fake when the story goes "wow look at our smart MC she did this ALL ON HER OWN WITH HER OWN MERIT".

Best school romance story I've read so far!

Reading this novel reminded me so much of the vibes of the original Meteor Garden drama. It's fun, unrestrained, and just brimming with youth! I fell in love not just with the MC and ML but with their entire class and friend group. Such cute kids.

The MC and ML are so refreshing to read, especially how the romance between them unfolds. I thought my sense for romance has been corrupted by the low quality romance I've been reading on this site, but hurrah,... more>> I still got the giggles! This couple is just too cute!

The MC is resolute in her goal to live a happy life with a bright future without seeking to ruin others. I have never been as proud of a main character in a web novel as I was when she gave up her heroine halo when she realized that all the luck she was getting was just her misfortune being pushed unto the people around her.

ML is best boi. He's all but a hedgehog, and his thoughts are so hilarious to read. His supposedly domineering attitude is comedy gold because he's just so earnest but with the social grace of a newborn calf and the economical power of Jeff Bezos, lmao. His ridiculously simple motivations results to actions with the subtlety of a bulldozer.

And there ARE misunderstandings between them, such as 'who likes who', 'does she actually like me', and 'oh no, my love is unrequited', but the conflict never goes too far and is resolved so hilariously that you won't mind it so much.

As for the family situation, well, it truly is wretched. As much as you start to hope for reconciliation the more you read through the family's regrets, I think it's the best that the story ended with the MC walking away with a potential for a hopeful future. I guess the saddest part about it is that the family aren't even terrible people, they were just truly careless with the MC's heart and impartial with their love. They broke one daughter's heart by being biased and ruined the other daughter by spoiling her.

I can't help but feel pity for the OG!FL because she was just so desperate not to be abandoned. It needs to be said that before the discovery of her not being the true daughter, she was truly a good and filial child, the best daughter her parents could have asked for. Her family ruined her by making everything a choice between her and MC. She watched her family be biased in favor to her for two years, that she became desperate to not lose their favor and be in the MC's position. Her actions before being thrown out of the family wasn't even truly bad. Their family made earning their affections a competition, and when they realized their own faults, they faulted OG!FL for continuing to compete for their favor despite being the ones to condition her that way. In the end, they abandoned this spoiled girl who they raised to be waited on hand and foot and left her to be devoured by the combination of vultures and bad choices. In this case, she was truly just a pitiful thing who lacked fortitude and could only be shaped by her environment in both lifetimes. <<less

Although I found that it dragged in some areas and that other areas needed a bit more explaining, Zhao Mingxi and Fu Yangi’s story to be a roller coaster of emotions. In a good way of course. After reading this it just proves that kindness goes a long way. It is unfortunate that the fake daughter didn’t get worst than what she got. I mean she committed attempted mu*der and all she got was three years in prison? Yeah no, she needed to buuuuuurn honey.

I write this review because I don't understand the 4.6 ratings. The story is okay, translation is superb, but there's nothing extraordinary or amazing about the story.

It's great fluff, but I've seen better fluff. It has this little angst along the way, but none of them got the resolution it needed, it's barely satisfying. For example,

Spoiler

How the MC never reconcile with her family. I understand that because the plot was supposed to be in the book, and MC was the designated villain so her family somehow had this filtered view on her badly, then it wasn't entirely the family's fault. When she worked hard on her luck, the filter slowly fade, and her family realized what's wrong. The younger brother, Zhou Yuning, even said to have the best relationship with her (despite his attitude), yet she won't give him chance? Her mother, father and brothers wasn't half bad, or so I thought.

[collapse]

I've seen better plot where the supposed protagonist turned out to be the real villain, manipulating everyone behind their back, and this feels like it, but it wasn't revealed that way...? The description of the event, where she went out of control and spitting things out, wasn't satisfying. They didn't recount the past 2 years event clearly, and I feel like the so-called "manipulation" was only that much, yet it throws people off.

The revelation of this white lotus wasn't much. Even her ending wasn't much.

Other angst without good resolution is the ML's family.
Spoiler

How about his mom's treatment? Did she get past that? How about his grandpa? He's okay, but he wasn't a model grandfather as well. How about the child abuse he suffered from "other family members" that never appeared, only mentioned? And what happened to Fu Zhiyi? There is nothing. It was said that Fu Zhiyi wasn't what MC's thinking, that being a replacement for ML's brother was him being forced, that he didn't enjoy, so what happened to this potential character development? Isn't he supposed to be more "loved" by ML's mother due to his resemblance, and competing for inheritance? So what happened to him after ML's mother got treated?

[collapse]

ML was previously a trouble maker due to his past trauma, and MC described him as a smart witty person without the willingness to do exams based on the books she saw in his bedroom, but what about it? Did he got better? Did he start study seriously to match MC's glowing academic achievement? Did he manage to take over the Fu Family's fortune?

Like I'm so frustrated with the ratings!!! I've seen better 4-stars novels out there, and this one, at most, can be a 4.0. I would even give 3.7 - 3.8 on how incomplete the plot was.

Fluff was okay if the theme is fluff, but certainly, this has a lot of foreboding plot that didn't get revealed. <<less

Typical child swap story. Though the premise is more fixated on the novel universe, it's not heavily plot focused and it was relatively too easy for the MC to untie herself from her miserable fate.
Comedic, romantic, a bit bland, and with a heavy kick of K-drama misunderstandings.

Spoiler

She had managed from very early on to escape the grasp of her family and turned her back on those who ignored and hurt her.
There were no attempts made from the side of the novel-verse like tying her down as a cannon fodder villain role even though the requirements to escape this fate of hers had only been completed near the end of the story.
She instead had it easygoing. I do love her determination to stay away from those who had hurt her and those who hurt her had the conscience to maintain a distance from MC as she desired.

MC, Zhao Mingxi, is fated to have a bad ending. To change her fate, she needs to increase her luck by interacting with lucky characters. Within the novel, ML, Fu Yangxi, provides the most. Therefore, she has to do certain tasks with/for ML to increase her luck. ML thinks MC has fallen in love with him because of her strange actions. ML falls for her and then she falls for him eventually.

And of course, her family regret their treatment of her and want her back.

Objectively speaking, there's nothing different or outstanding about this novel. It's your typical rebirth, doing better with your life, dumping every tr*sh people you had in your life, and living for yourself where you end up meeting your prince charming.

But then again, I'd like to talk about the ML, he's got nothing but green flags, green headlights flashing for him. He's an absolute adorable darling, a bit tsundere but never enough to hurt the FL with his careless words. Tough macho man? Nah it's all a pretense, he's a toddler... more>> but in the best way possible. He never did anything against the FL's wishes, never took any advantages under the guise of a relationship, he's a gentleman. When he was heartbroken you would expect a character like him to throw the biggest tantrums, he did through tantrums but just hiding away in his house while still making sure his beloved is all good. The FL never really depended on the ML to achieve her goals for this life but he did add a cherry on top of everything. It's a sweet story, do read if you have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon. <<less

It’s pretty good and controversial in a way. I like and dislike the FL at the same time. I mean, I don’t know how she can be so cold and seemingly unaffected, dunno if she really is or just restraining her emotions and not dealing with past-life trauma. I get not wanting to have anything to do with her family but she’s human too. It appears too easy for her to cut them off which makes me dislike her a bit as she seems too cold. Not to mention, her... more>> little brother seemed ok, and he’s just a child too, he can get some slack. Original FL is the best character, she’s quite well written. More than a white lotus, a spoiled princess that falls and fails to adapt to reality. She’s not evil, she’s delusional and selfish and then she goes cra-cra lol. Anyway, you know it an alright book when you can describe characters with mixed emotions lmao. One star off, because our FL la ks a bit of emotional depth and some reactions/ characters’ actions are unrealistic at times (the whole how her family dealt with the switching babies situation, I know it was blamed on the OFL halo but dunno, didn’t feel it. Plus they did the same mistake, the cut lose their adoptive precious daughter too, after all that show of love and etc. Not to mention the ML ‘s family. All idiots.) It also gets boring at times but still an okay read. <<less

A good read! For a modern day, slice of life novel, it’s really not bad. Ah, of course, there’s also some fantasy elements with the SYSTEM, but that’s more of a side thing. So yeah, the focus is the school life, and the novel pulled it off quite well! My favorite aspect of this novel are definitely the characters. The FL was easy to like, the ML was charming, and even the side characters had a lot of personality to them.

Summary: The FL is reborn after dying from cancer. In... more>> her previous life, she was the abandoned daughter of the Zhao family. She had been raised outside while a fake daughter had replaced her for fifteen years. When she finally came back to the family, eager to blend in, all she got for her efforts were cold shoulders. Everyone only cared for the fake daughter and thought of her as a petty, uncultured girl who is constantly thinking about gains and losses. After she is reborn, she decides to cut ties with this family ASAP. And oh, btw, to make sure that the original heroine’s halo doesn’t affect her, she cozies up to the ML, who the SYSTEM claims can increase her luck.

If you like drama and face-slapping, then this is the story for it! The story may be a bit unconventional (funny to call it that, but it fits best) though because the here black and white is not so clear. The FL’s original family, for example, slowly realize where they’ve gone wrong and strive to better themselves. The same goes for other characters. Most of the time it leads to nowhere (idk since I didn’t finish T.T) but the effort was nice! LOLOL. What you should really read this for is the romance. It’s a bit s*upid sometimes, but the ML is very cute DX. He’s the tsundere type, rough on the outside but soft on the inside.

OVERALL, a good experience. I can’t say that it’s good all throughout, since I got kind of bored sometimes (especially near the end), but it was a simple and sweet read that was very satisfying. Worth at least 3.9/5 stars. Just short of a full 4 stars lol. <<less

Super cute with a great message about not wasting your time on people who don't appreciate you-- a story about found family.

I LOVE the main characters. The ML is like a mini-overbearing tsundere CEO, but doesn't keep the MC from forming her own friendships and interacting with other guys. He still gets jealous, but he doesn't force her to do anything. I found the MC charming as well-- she's pretty obtuse in some aspects, but it makes sense since her entire character is about navigating relationships now that she isn't... more>> constantly trying to please people due to insecurity.

I did knock off a point because I felt like a lot of the misery in the novel is actually due to the halo and NOT because of the actual characters being awful, so I wanted more information on it. It was abundantly clear that the MC's original suffering was more because the adopted daughter's halo was draining everyone else's IQ and making them mindlessly support her, rather than because the adopted daughter was actively scheming against her... not that she wasn't, but her original scheming was mostly just staying passive in the face of her family's overwhelming bias. Overall, I wasn't totally satisfied with Zhao family's resolution. Its fitting that the main story ends without any further information on them, but I would've enjoyed some extras about the Zhao family. Frankly, I find the Zhao family pretty overall disdainful, since both of their daughters' endings were directly linked to the family being terrible at making both parties feel valued and secure... if I recall correctly, there's actually a moment where its shown that the adopted daughter thinks that she needs to fight for her position because the amount of love someone can give is finite, and the events of the story absolutely proves her right.

That said, I'd still recommend this novel. The bulk of it is still enjoyable and feel-good, and my personal issues with the writing is unlikely to bother most people. <<less
