“I am the heroine of an otome game, so is it wrong to like the villainess?”

Corporate s*ave OL, Oohashi Rei, reincarnated as the heroine Rei Taylor in the world of the otome game 「Revolution」.

Her preference isn’t the capturable princes, it’s the villainess, Claire François.

She merrily accepts Claire’s dislike.

With the protagonist’s involvement, it’s the beginning of a unique romcom.

To make it worse, Rei’s love became directed at the villainess, what does Claire’s future hold?

It’s my second series with a screwball villainess.

A little different from ordinary… I hope you can enjoy the villainess who’s just a little different.

Wonderful.

Simply wonderful.

I read it all in a day and it was great.

An interesting twist to the typical otome game plot, it starts out hilarious and becomes more and more serious as the plot rolls on. Much like a cartoon snowball getting bigger and bigger the further it rolls, we see more hints and foreshadowing of the end.

This country has a French-ish feel. The King is called Rousseau. There's a movement for equality going on. The Otome game is called "Revolution".

Luckily no-one was guillotine'd but it was a close call.

Rejoice, for there is a Good End!

Anyhow, Claire is super cute. Initially a haughty earnest villainess, she goes from 100% Tsun to 100% Dere. Rei's overwhelming harassment love is also funny to read about.

Edit 2/2/20: Wait, there's a part 2??? There's more?! <<less

Easily became one of my favorite yuri.

Truly you really do not need to put a lot of skinship or whatsoever to make a story interesting.

You just need an interesting plot and interesting characters then viola!

First review here. Just wanted to share how much I liked this novel.

I've never been one to read yuri or anything like that, but this novel is espetacular. The author, even though made mistakes here and there, was able to express so many different emotions in the story. It was a joy of a reading, a learning experience and it left a mark in me. I cried sometimes, of laughter and of sorrow. The pacing of the romance is also good, not too fast or too slow.

Of course it's not... more>> all gold, some decisions are wacky and plot holes exist, but the core of the story is great.

Spoiler

The ending was particularly satisfactory. It made me feel really good and fulfilled my expectations for the characters. What is really difficult to happen with endings for me.

[collapse]

All in all, I give it a 5/5 based on my own enjoyment. This is just my garbage opinion, but thanks for reading.

I also wanted to give thanks to the translator and the author for giving us this story.

PS: definitely buy the light novel if you can! <<less

It's good, but no one ever cares that the protagonist got isekai'd. Not the protagonist, the people she spills her secret to, and especially the author. It's our initial plot device and constantly held up as foreshadowing/future knowledge, but nobody cares about the issue itself.

A lot of magic world building happens with off-handedly related clues as to what magic might really be and why she's there.

This is not an issue, though. At this point "isekai Otome Villainess" is simply the excuse the story used to get a reader, if everyone... more>> can forget the entire premise from beginning to end and simply enjoy the characters, that would probably be best for all of us. <<less

Having finished the novel, I have got to say it is a great journey. The main character Rei and the love interest Claire have great personality and seeing Rei try to get Claire to fall for her was just hilarious. There are also some great supporting characters within this series as well.

If I have to give a flaw to the series then it's got to the last third of this novel when it starts to get really serious. It feels really rushed and feels like a desperate attempt to just... more>> wrap everything up. In the end it feels like there are a couple plot holes in the end. However it doesn't ruin the whole journey of the series. I highly recommend you to give it a read for yourself and give your own opinion on it. Additionally, in the epilogue the ACTUAL author actually comments as well which is definitely a huge surprise and shows how much the author cared about the readers and the series/. <<less

I was surprised by this story.

A pleasant surprise if I must say so.

The story is very good, its development, the characters, the construction of the world, but the most pleasant thing is... The relationship between the protagonist and her beloved.
First I must say that the protagonist is very nice and funny, although at first I thought she is very sincere with her feelings and maybe a little (masochistic), then she tells more and more of her thoughts and makes him feel truly human.

This is my first Yuri story that... more>> I have read and I liked a lot.

Anyway if you want to read an entertaining story that mixes sweetness and comedy to create a story whose romance is quite charming, then read them. <<less

I recommend you to read at least until chapter 40-50s before you decide whether to drop this novel or not. Per November 28th 2018, this novel has amasses 109 votes with 4, 4 rating; and let me tell you, such high rating is completely justified.

Spoiler

... uh, well, maybe not that high. But I believe it worths 4-stars rating at the least.

The focus of this novel is how Claire slowly developes her feeling to Rei and how Rei matures (emotionally) to protect Claire.

First, I will need to divide the work into two parts, part one (amazing), and part two (unnecessary), which, to be honest, I didn't even read.

Part one is comprised of chapters 1 to 112 (in addition to the 6 extras, plus a chapter +18 that is not here in the novel updates).

Part one is really amazing, we're quickly introduced to who the protagonist is, what is that abnormal situation she finds herself in, and what she wants to do. I would like to say that this was the best work... more>> of the yuri genre I have ever read, the characters are charismatic and profound, the author is not afraid to discuss homosexuality, which is obviously the most important part of a yuri work. The plot of the work surprised me very positively, it has a depth that I did not expect it to have when I started reading it, the story takes place at the time when the monarchy and aristocracy were dominant, however, due to the discovery of magic in that world, the commoners ended up having a relevance that could not be ignored, this will lead us to several political plots that I found very well treated, and again, the author is not afraid to discuss these themes, which makes the work much more interesting. Because of everything I mentioned, the seriousness and care that the work received when it was written left the story and characters very believable, it was extremely satisfying to read, which amused me, excited me, and moved me at various times.

Now let's talk about part two, why do I say it's unnecessary? Well, that's exactly what she is. Part one is already a complete work, with a beginning, middle, end, and its plot resolved. I'm sure part one was what the author planned, because as she said earlier, it's a complete story, and if memory serves, she had started writing another work after finishing this one. However, for some reason, she decided to write a part two, I don't know if it was out of greed, pressure from the publisher, or just a desire to continue writing a story with those characters. To be as clear as possible what I mean, part two is like Boruto, it doesn't need to exist, because Naruto's plot had already been finished.

Remembering again that I only read part one (chapters 1 to 112 + extras), and I will ignore the existence of part two (the rest), which despite not having read it, I know what the plot is, and I didn't like the idea. As I said, part one is a complete story by itself, it doesn't make hooks or depends on part two for anything.

After saying all this, I highly recommend reading it, the work is very good and captivating, with a much deeper plot and characters than we initially thought, in addition to a complete story and a satisfying ending, certainly a pearl in the yuri genre. <<less

This is an interesting one. While the story does explore the treatment of homosexuals and one sided love in that time period there are many inconsistencies with both the characters, thought process of the MC, setting and various magic/power related things.

The MC is a through and through lesbian this is fine but her whole schtick of acting like a clown to get closer to the FL gets annoying after awhile. This does play slightly into self-hate as she does it purposefully to protect herself. The magic she has at first... more>> glance seems overpowered and unmatched but later on she amazingly gets steamrolled by every other "main" character.

The FMC is alright, she's not amazingly charismatic but she does have a good heart I would say more development should have occurred when she developed feelings for the MC but that's just me. The story is only ~112 chapters long and it's a bit disappointing how a cute buildup was rushed by the author.

Other characters, mostly irrelevant side shows to the main cast and there to provide help as human tools or give some sort of emotional development for the characters. All are mostly forgettable and have no real personality.

Regarding the setting and plot, it's very mediocre, power levels are all over the place and the so-called magic tools are only referenced in passing with nothing to note what determines a high level tool and a low level one or what sort of skill is needed to weild it. The biggest joke towards the end is how these things become mostly irrelevant anyway since everyone is throwing around some world-destroying tier magic. The setting is also a boring setup since the MC wholly relies on her future knowledge, there is hardly any butterfly effect and it's a joke.

In conclusion, for me this was a novel I really did want to rate higher but I simply cannot there is too much lacking in this novel and the author started off extremely ambitious with the world setting to the point where he had to rush an ending. Very annoying. <<less

The only thing special about the story is that the heroine likes a girl that happens to be the villain. Nothing else really makes sense. The main characters don't have depth, and are incredibly immature for their age and standing.

Well, this series was interesting. I read the first part of the story in the form of the two currently available officially translated Light Novels. I found the first novel, that is, the first 4 arcs of the story, to be quite lacking. It felt really light-hearted and lacked a lot of weight to the story. The first volume wasnt particularly long and while it did get better towards the end, I was not expecting a significant jump in quality when I decided to continue to the second novel. But... more>> in my opinion, the second novel was far better than the first, with actual stakes, characters and twists.

Conversely to other reviewers, I felt the inclusion of content covering modern issues facing queer people was very interesting and handled very well. This is the only piece of Yuri content I have ever read that actually seemed to come from an author with real world experience. In fact, I felt the small section including the memories of our protagonist was one of the best sections of the book.

The reason I'm giving this 3 stars though:
-lackluster 1st volume
-decidedly average resolution to arcs, often very short
-rather ridiculous finale to the second novel
-the romance is kind of average, with few stand out scenes

Overall, its still plenty enjoyable, I really appreciate the respectfulness of the author and how they represented queer folks in a way that felt for the struggles of many others, however it's still just a relatively average romance but with some good dramatic twists. I feel a 5 or 6 out of 10 is most appropriate. <<less

While I like novels with hundreds and thousands of chapters but I think this novel should have stayed with the first ending as the sequel ruined almost everything. I'm a little disappointed, Since this is the first gl novel I've encountered with chapters passing a hundred and to turn it into something like this in the chapter 200 or so. I like the political side of it but the part where there are some multiple and combining worlds came, it ruined it all.

Yup, as some review has stated, the MC pretty much sexually harass the poor FL verbally while keep thinking how to change things to avoid the FL getting a bad end. There is more stuff about politics, touching on the MC's past dealings for not being straight, topics such as gender identity and stuff appear.

Spoiler

What I dislike is the fact that the main ship is always being delayed by smaller ships or cliffs in the way. I also don't really get the whole magic part and just skim through it.

[collapse]

I think if you think the FL is a tsundere and don't mind such a force relationship, this is a good 'light-hearted' novel.

If you are content with the ending of the 1st half, there is no need to read the 2nd half since
Spoiler

the MC and the FL adopted 2 daughters who are like their mini-selves. They intended to retreat from the politics in their country by being teachers at the academy but are forced to go ahead as "baits" to another country. The setting which the game after the villainess is banished from her home country as the ruling of nobles come to an end.

I have read the first LN. This is borderline 3 - 4. Might rise with the second volume.

The charcters are likable and have some depth. The story has an interesting flow, but it gets somewhat muddled in the later half.

Minor spoilers :

Spoiler

The whole academy knights thingy was sketchy. Where were the knights before the main characters were selected into it ? Why are they the only knights mentioned except the head & vice head ? Doesn't make sense.

Rae/Rei's previous life background is again of a life where she is a s*ave in some coporation and games are her only joy in life. It just makes me sad. Why can't you quit ? Is it really that bad in Japan ?

Another thing is the charcters feel so real one starts to feel a bit uncomfortable with the bullying of Claire. About a third of the book in, the bullying becomes completely one sided and is from Rei to Claire, and it borders on s*xual and emotional harrassment of a disturbed teen by an adult.

It is no longer at the level of "Oh, you are so cute when you are angry" and more "Why don't I help you change? *Wink* *wink*" and then she does help her change and ogles her. The last third is at the level of "Why don't I eat you?". Maybe Claire doesn't understand that phrase, but it isn't that difficult to guess.

The more the relationship between Rae and Claire develops into something real the less Rae's behaviour feels like a joke. While Rae acts oblivious, Claire is clearly getting more and more uncomfortable.

It also bugs me Rae's love of Claire is based 90% on the game character, it doesn't really feel like the actual Claire has much effect on her feelings and she ignores the actual person. The aforementioned s*xual harassment is case in point.

[collapse]

Major spoilers, about what bugged me the most about the story :

Spoiler

I thought the twist at the end was poorly done. It doesn't seem like Rae prepared well at all, and it doesn't feel like the way someone who knows so much about the future would act.

Why did she attempt to stop the operation alone? Why start acting so late in the game ? Breaking the bell beforehand was a nice touch, but at this point the brother & sister pair are already traitors. Why not help them at an earlier point ?

Isn't it obvious she should attempt to discover the real culprit ? She didn't seem to even try.

Why not recruit a prince or two to actually stop the operation in the worst case ?

Why leave Claire with the Lene at all ? Almost anyone else would have been much better.

10/10 one of the best yuri manga I’ve read. The story is easy to enjoy, and you can easily grow attached to the main character. Though, maybe for some people if you look at it from Claire’s point of view the story kind of falls apart, considering the fact that the most of the story is based on their incompatible relationship.

But for me it’s high up there on my list of favorites.

Before we begin with the reviews, let me first say that I don't like yuri/yaoi stories (somewhere around -4 on a hate/like scale of -10 to 10 if you need some kind of reference.). This is simply a matter of story preferences and not about actual LGBT people. Now that I have said this, here is a 4* rating so if you don't like yuri you could still enjoy this. Imo, the 'flaws' of this story are

1. The lack of anybody caring about the reincarnation issue. "I am reincarnated from... more>> a world where this is a game and I know the plot." *insert kingdom hearts 'okay I believe you' meme

2. Too many 'conveniently placed homo characters'. Them being yuri is fine but the ones that are yuri also conveniently hold key positions. Hell, half the important cast is yuri in a society where this is 'supposedly heresy' 'minority group'. Remember that this is an otome game where most plot characters are supposed to be straight for game progression.

3. There is this approximately 4 chapters worth of MC past life yuri backstory that is almost worthless. Anything that could be remotely considered important could be summarized into one chapter and even that could be considered 'backstory for random reason to be angsty'. <<less
