I Became the Wife of the Monstrous Crown Prince

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

She transmigrated into the body of Ancia, the current wife of the monstrous crown prince, Blake, in an R-19 romance novel.

In the original story, Ancia committed su*cide on the day of their marriage, leaving Blake with massive trauma. But this time, Ancia wouldn’t do such a thing.

Blake was the second male lead in the original novel. He was portrayed as a beast that possessed an exquisite facade. Yet, right now, he was behaving just like an innocent rabbit.

The only person who can remove the crown prince’s curse is the heroine, Diana. My role is to just keep this little boy from getting hurt and then step down in time, but…..

“Ancia, don’t leave me!”

This little rabbit keeps chasing me.

This story is actually pretty good... until it isn’t. I honestly don’t know why it still has such a high rating because, if I’m being honest here, it doesn’t even deserve that much.

translation: 4/5 (could be better but for the most part it’s just fine)

plot: 2/5 (I’ll explain further)

characters: 3/5

Spoiler

Ancia - absolutely no personality. it seems like all she’s capable of is “uwu hubby so cute” and *cooks random Korean dish for ML*
Blake - god awful. author has no idea how to write children. ridiculously possessive and jealous which would be comical if it wasn’t clearly meant to be serious

diana - author barely even shows her enough for you to get an honest opinion about her. Within 60+ chapters she only comes around so often and is overall an underutilized character

laontel - relatively smart and intuitive but wishy washy at best.

rakshul - barely see much of him as an actual character. in the flashbacks he’s more of side character than anything.

philip - a piece of sh*t but he’s also written as the villain so it works and makes sense

seraphania - piece of sh*t and for why? she’s the absolute worse and once you get passed ch 50 it becomes hard to read any scene she’s in without wanting to jump into the novel and kill her yourself.

[collapse]

The original plot is fine and dandy or whatever. For the first fifty or so chapters it’s about two little kids who’ve been promised to one another through marriage. FL was originally the villainess in the novel and ML is the crown prince who’s been cursed. Fast forward a bit and FL is isekai’d into the novel and diverts the villainess route and instead becomes a faithful, caring wife to be to ML.

(There are already issues with this considering FL is basically a bland doormat who’s only thoughts seem to be “omg my husband is cute” even though he’s terrible possessive and jealous which is weird since they’re children. Her character seems to literally only be there to make his character feel better.)

Spoiler

Which she does! She basically sacrifices herself to cure him of his curse not once but TWICE. First she enters the bad place (can’t remember it’s name sorry) even though it would be extremely harmful to her. And when she realizes that that hadn’t completely cured him she sacrifices herself AGAIN

[collapse]

Now, all that would make for an annoying story but it’s not terrible. I’m sure we’ve all lowered our standards for a novel or two... But what makes this novel irredeemable is the additional plot that revolves around the kingdom’s founding and the original people that founded it. What could have been a great opportunity to add on to some world building and add intrigue is completely tarnished by the author’s incompetent and dissatisfactory execution of such plot twist/development.

Spoiler

FL is the reincarnation of the light goddess, Seraphania, best friend Laontel while ML is the reincarnation of Laontel’s fiancé, Rakshul. The og founder of the kingdom, Philip gets Seraphania to fall in love with him and ultimately give him her powers.

Once that happens he reveals that he was in love with Laontel all along. He saps Seraphania’s powers out of her until she’s super weak, but not weak enough to not cast a curse on the kingdom (which is the og curse placed on the ML). Rakshul dies (can’t remember how) and Philip basically tells Laontel “fall in love with me or be miserable and for the rest of your life”.

Serphania and Laontel meet after a long time of not doing so and Seraphania admits that she knew Philip didn’t love her but is upset at Laontel for taking him away???

[collapse]

The execution of this plot twist is so piss poor not just because it’s ridiculously convoluted, but because the author weaves this plot twist narrative into the story through flashbacks that leaves you with incredible whiplash as you’re snatched out of “tee hee, husband is cute” to whatever that was.

It gets infinitely worse with the time skip to the point you’re wondering just how could the author get published with a story like this.

Spoiler

Time skip happens because FL goes to save ML for a second time (as stated before) and Seraphania emerges to tell her all about how she’s a terrible friend for forgetting about her and not doing anything to save her when... let’s be real. Laontel WARNED Seraphania about Philip. And countless times at that too! She had to watch her best friend be tortured and watched her fiancé die... what more does Seraphania want? Well actually, she wants not only for Laontel to suffer in her past life but in her present life too.

Seraphania body snatches FL and puts her in her (Seraphania’s body). She then forced her out of the “realm” type thing they’d been in. While she was with Seraphania, 8 years passed. ML is an adult now and FL is believed to be dead. Well surprise! She’s not. But no one can tell that it’s her because she’s in Seraphania’s body and her ability to talk or write has been taken from her by none other than Seraphania, the idiotic and selfish light goddess.

[collapse]

Honestly, I had to stop reading after that. It was just too much and it made absolutely no sense. Just when you think that the MCs are gonna have a happy ending the author snatches that away and goes “Sike! I actually have 100+ more pages of absolutely convoluted and ridiculous bs for the MCs to go through just because I can!”

TL;DR nonsensical and mind boggling in terms of plot. characters are uninteresting at best. overall, author fumbled an otherwise average story

Cute story. But heads up for they go into various character perspectives, sometimes they recap scenes from another point of view, we go into a lot of backstory for many characters, families, histories, and world-building. At first, I figure it's because when the characters get older the story is going to change directions from being a fluffy caretaking story into a more dramatic one. But it starts that stuff when the FL is like 13, so you know. Typical novel having a middle schooler deal with unearthing kingdom secrets and... more>> whatnot.

I even started to keep notes for other reviewers said it gets confusing later. Turns out there are a few plot lines to track. The story also has a few time skips one in chapter 21, with just 2 years, the next in chapter 27 with one.
Spoiler

And a 7 year one in chp 81 where the story is totally off from original book and into this whole new thing

[collapse]

Plotlines to follow BTW
Spoiler

The Main story of Blake and Ancia
The Cassil family plot to take the throne
Richard Cassil's planes to steal that from his dad and brother
The Story of The Light Goddess, Phillips war with the Roum people, and The Zelcan Revival Movement.
There is also Eunhan, a character who is around for a while and then is gone for like CHAPTERS then comes back and gets his own plotline in chapters 45-54. ((Simple sum: He is the runaway prince from the east. Who was taken in by Emperor Tenstheon to use his magic to protect his son Blake.))

[collapse]

Anyway Main Characters:
Ancia Bellacian: FL
After Ancia attempted su*cided in the Palace's lake our FL awaken into her body. She recalls this is the R-19 book she read and she is the minor character who died before the events of the story. After she apologies and covers up the su*cide attempt as an accident she decided to take care of Blake until her half sister breaks his curse in adulthood.
In her past life she was an orphan who lived with her grandmother and after her grandmother passed she moved to the city. Big part of her character is her Korean homestyle cooking that she uses it to feed Blake and her friends in their palace.

Her Faults
Spoiler

Character Motivation: So she herself has no bigger goals or motivations but she's not a villain reincarnation so its not like she has to avoid any bad ends. She just wants Blake to be happy. But it would be nice if she thinks more about her plans outside Blake.
Book = Fate: Because Blake fell in love with Diana in the book she believes this will have to happen again. Ancia should know that just because somebody saves them doesn't mean they have to fall in love, but then again the book said the curse broke from steamy hot s*x so maybe I can't blame her for thinking that.
Selective Oblivious: Sometimes she realizes the s*xual innuendo and others not. She can also read some people's affection but not others. It whatever the plot wants her to observe.
Extra Hero Powers: Is Polyglot (reads and speaks all launguges). But at least its an ability they make a lot of use of then just something the writer added to make the protagonist feel cooler.
(not a fault but a small spoiler)
Alternate Character Interpretation: FL learns in dream flashbacks that the book was wrong about her su*cide being Blake's fault. She grew up unloved and when her father married her off the cursed prince he insisted she should kill herself as soon as possible to save her family's reputation. When she understands this she completely cuts ties with her family. ((Than we get more on that during Eunhan plotline))
Tag team style Reincarnation: So she isn't Ancia she just takes over her body after she dies. So she has this guilt towards her half-sister for not being her real sister, but I feel with the dreams she gets and with time I hope she starts to feel like a real sister to Diana.

[collapse]

Blake Larisch Geracillion: ML
Woobie boy who needs to wrapped in blankets and given warm hugs. 2 years younger than FL. Only child of the king but suffers from the royal curse that was bestowed on the family due to being a child of misfortune.
Spoiler

That is what the commoners belive, But the nobles have a story that it's because an ancestor betrayed the Goddess of Light

[collapse]
As child he is a sweet baby who just wants Ancia to be happy.

His Faults

Spoiler

Hollywood Homely: the "ugly monster" is just a little boy who seems to be covered in tattoos, so wearing a mask like he's a deformed monster is a bit much, but it is sad to know that where it is inscribed hurts him.
Adorably Precocious Child/Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Like in a lot of these kind of things, kid goes from being a rabbit to 'snap' wolf. Some say he gets it from his dad.

Possessive: The type that make it clear they don't like when FL is with other men but is not stopping them. So he is not scary or threatening towards the FL just a whole lot of spoken jealousy about it.

(not a fault but a small spoiler for chapter 8)
Loved All Along: In the book his father dies and Blake never learned it was for his sake. And because of Blakes curse it is a tradition for the afflicted to be sent away and forgotten to save the royal family face. But His Dad really loves him and has to hide it and it is thanks to Ancia he found a way to show affection for his son by over doting on his daughter in law. He also married his son so young for he wanted his Blake to have a companion when he was living in exile. His dad also expresses his guilt for how he has to treat his son due to being the king.

Also, there is a 7 year time skip in 81 so now he is suddenly 18 with a new peronslity

[collapse]

Diana Bellacian: Main Cast, org book FL
As the org FL she is a good girl who really loves her half sister! If Ancia died as she did in the book she would have left her family once she was an adult and become Blakes's maid. But since her sister didn't die she goes after her childhood dream of being a knight! Something their dad will not support but her sister is hella there for her.
Ancia tries to introduce her to Blake as children but instead of falling in love they become sparring buddies and fight over who loves Ancia more. The reason they fight is also how they become best friends, for both would do what they can for Ancia.

Richard: Antagonist
The ML of the original book was one of those terrible characters who are redeemed by love types. 4 years older than FL. Blakes Cousin, 2nd son of Duke Cassil. Starts out as a typical jerk but as the story develops he turns out to be an interesting antagonist.
Tropes:
Spoiler

Freudian Excuse: His mother was a Roum s*ave so nobody expects or wants him to inherit anything. If it wasn't for Richard's intelligence his father would have kept him as a s*ave than ever acknowledge him as a son. Richard is mistreated by his family but plans to outdo his brothers and father. (Roum are a class of people that go way back into the Goddess of Light thing, basically thousands of years ago they were the royal high-class that mistreated the ppl so the Goddess helped Philip defeat them and after the war they were discredited and became the lowest class of s*aves)

I love you Because I can't Control you: When he fails to manipulate Ancia into being his spy he becomes obsessed with her. (Extra creepy since this starts when Ancia is 10 years old)

[collapse]

Good read for those who like heavy worldbuilding, but the way it handles this sort of larger-scale themes when it started as a fluffy hurt comfort story may not be up for everybody's taste. <<less

The goddess sucks. I'm fine with how anyone else's character was built. Man, even Richard/Philip was more tolerable especially because I like how he reincarnates into a person who belongs to a race he had victimized. But Ser? F*ck Ser. She reminds me of those selfish af greek gods who'd do stuff based on a whim because they'd manage to get away with it. Except she doesn't get away with what she's done, and the consequences of the choices she has made bites everyone in the ass.

[collapse]

Anyways the 4 rating was because I loved the fluff and how the story transitions from a "hey this is your normal shoujo-targeted reincarnation novel" into a "hey this was once your normal shoujo-targeted reincarnation novel, now it's meant to torment you and you're still gonna stay because you're already attached."

I love this novel. I'm extremely picky and I must say if I can remember all of the characters name in a book, thats a lot. I look forward to a new update each day. The updates are really fast and I truly appreciate this. The translation is awesome. Kudos to the author. Lastly, I think the book overall is interesting and makes me want more each time I read a chapter. I love the relationship each character has with each other. It's realistic in a way. I especially love... more>> the relationship Ancia has with blake. I can't wait for more <<less

I was trying so hard to finish this...

i loved it at first with all the fluffiness and how cute they were, BUTTTT then she goes to that black hole or smng idk not remember, its just I didn't really see the point for what reason did they had to put all that 50-60 long story ab their previous lives. For me it was boring. Very bland and characters were so dumb!!! Its just frustrating to read honestly.

another problem that I had by reading this was how obsessed ML was.... more>> Its not just simple thing but for example:, , I can smell another men on you" yes honey she talks with other people🙄. AND FL DOES NOTHING NOTHING!!! FL is a pushover She goes awwww. Yes its aww as long as it not cross the line, I mean... what will he do if she get lost and comes back very late home lock her up? It doesn't matter if he loves her, he acts like a dam child.
And the ending ughh I was so bored reading ab that drama with wedding at some point I wanted that guy to win (i forgot his name) 🤷‍♀️Just for a good drama <<less

The story starts out strong, then fizzles. I'm rating this higher than I normally would because of the first arc

The novel combines several fairy tales- Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid then morphs into a reincarnation love triangle that really made no sense, I skimmed the last arcs chapters because they were so cliche and boring. And the extra was annoying and detracted from the overall story

I feel like the author started to dislike the characters so she tortured them for no reason

The first arch, (children/Beauty... more>> and the Beast) was excellent, I give it 5 stars

The second arc (goddess/The Little Mermaid) was OK, 3.5 stars

The third arc (evil obsessed reincarnated emperor) was bad. Too long, too convoluted, very boring. This is where I started reading the first paragraph and the last paragraph of the chapters 1 star

And then there is the extra... Negative stars
Spoiler

13 chapters on how cute the ML is after he was turned into a 4 year old... It was not well written and is the only place the translator fell down, they totally failed in writing a lisp which made the extras almost unreadable

I could see how some people would be into this, but personally not my cup of tea.

The story is very slow pace, with nothing interesting going on for most chapters. This was enough for me to hesitate continuing however as I continue and realize the route it will take and how 2D the characters are going to be just to follow the plot -I drop it.

It's not even the type of dogblood I like, where you will feel anger and then satisfaction after they get what they deserve. Just some... more>> fluffy story trying to have bigger world building while shoving propaganda about Korean culture. <<less

The plot was good, a cute and fluffy novel. The FL (Ancia) is a reliable and mature... while ML (Blake) was a cute bunny ML who's loyal to FL.

Spoiler

Even when Ancia's soul was exchanged to scarred Rose's body, Blake still recognized Ancia.

I liked that the OG Heroine and FL got good relationship. Also, some villains given chance to change for the better.

This novel is so much deeper than just your average Korean romance novel. It has some mystery vibes and has real 3 dimensional characters that have real human emotion. The heroes and villains are not clear and it feels like you are watching a whole world unfold right before your eyes. This is by far the most interesting Korean romance I have read yet.

I'm not one to leave reviews but I have to because while the jump and mc's attitude seem pointless when you get to this part, you think that now it makes sense, everything. I don't know if I express myself well because English is not my first language but they really should give it a try, both the story and the translation are totally worth it.

I was hesitant on reading this since I've read a similar one that ended up being tr*sh but after reading it, I regret not reading this sooner. In my opinion, the relationship of the FL and ML is fairly balanced with both of them having their own set of positive/negative factors. In addition, I absolutely adore the interaction between the ML and the FL's sister. Instead of the 'she loves me more' trope, they go for the 'I love her more' and it's so sweet and refreshing. This is just... more>> one relationship that I adore. There are so many other characters that are amazing on their own and the story is so fun to follow. Definitely a must-read. <<less

The story is about a woman who transmigrated in the body of the former FL's sister who died early in the story. She wakes up in the body alive instead of dead. So instead of being cut off from the story, she takes the wheel and protects the crown prince who was treated unjustly in his past life as his wife. The story is enjoyable and interesting. I am interested in seeing how the story unfolds and how it will be different from the main story. My only problem here... more>> is that it's somehow cringe how cute the crown prince acts in front on the MC. Okay, who’s going to talk about how absolutely ADORABLE Blake was? ME! He’s just the most adorable and loveable male lead ever! I wanted to squeeze his cheeks and call him cute. Even though he’d get angry.

He doesn’t like being called cute. Poor baby wants to be cool and manly! But me thinks he’s too pretty to be manly.

People did complain he was a bit of a red flag since he was such an obsessive brat... but like, there’s so many OTHER bad qualities in male lead, why do you... more>> have to scowl at something so harmless? Come on, people! He’s a Yandere and I love him. It’s not like he does anything to cross boundaries like locking her up and stuff. I don’t see any people warning me before I jump into a novel where the ML takes advantage of the ML or where he’s abusive to her. But of course, everyone’s going to pick on my BABY Blake for his, slightly out of control, jealousy. It’s just a tiny thing! Get over it!

Also, I think the best part was how, even though he grumbled at being called cute by Ancia, in front of her, he always pretended to be cute and innocent. He’s actually a cold and ruthless person. BUT not in front of his wife!

I SWEAR HE’S TOO CUTE!

As for Ancia, personally, I don't feel like she had a very strong presence in the story. I mean, she was a strong and resilient character sure but she wasn't quite distinctive enough. It's like... I enjoyed reading about her in the book but she's not someone who will be stuck in my mind after I finish it.

One thing I really loved about her was how she carefully protected and cared for Blake. From the beginning of the book, when he was just a timid cutie-pie, till the end when he turned in to a cold person who was cute in front of her, she was so caring towards him. I can definitely understand why Blake would become so obsessed with her! <<less

Honestly, I really enjoyed this novel!! But not in a good kind of writing way in more of a guilty pleasure kinda way. She was terribly written her backstory, her personality, her reasoning. It’s all really badly written. I basically only read for Blake. There is also a lot of talk of seducing when the... more>> kids are like 12 (?) , it also does some stuff where Blake pretends to be an animal it’s honestly really disgusting and hard to read. I do NOT understand the people who didn't like this one - yes, it's long and complicated, but EVERYTHING ends up being a part of the plot. This one is SO intricate and well-planned out - I would NOT have been able to read this as it was coming out because I would have forgotten most of the plot points before they were used to yank the plot in a completely unexpected direction. There are SO many payoffs, but you do have to be patient. This one is an onion,... more>> and the layers get peeled off very slowly. I hope others enjoy this as much as I have!

I REALLY enjoyed this one. Ancia and Blake acted like actual children, and all too often you're seeing a storyline set up where the one who's reincarnated is acting like girlfriend AND mom, which is creepy and feels like grooming to me.
Spoiler

I honestly and wondering why we don't have yandere male character tag for this because while he's a milder version than a lot you see, Blake is DEFINITELY a yandere. He resents when Ancia gives attention to anyone else, especially other men, even his father and guards. He doesn't let those tendencies get out of control, but he's VERY possessive of Ancia.

I understand why everyone hates Ser for how she acts to Ancia over the arc after Ancia frees her, and don't get me wrong - Ser is being a JERK - but it's also very understandable for her to have that trauma response. Is Ancia a saint for putting up with it? No, and I can see why people think she's a pushover for it too, but Ancia is trying to support her best friend in the way she wishes Ser would support her. Ser's reaction is one that seems similar to the way some abused children react to how the power dynamic with their abuser affects all their other relationships, and project all their terrible memories and feelings onto those they care about.

[collapse]

All that being said, I loved how this was written. I especially enjoyed how there were tiny hints early in the story of things that became much more important later, like the languages and the nightmares. The writing was really good for this story, and the editing was GREAT. I'm extremely glad I read this! Thank you translators! <<less
