A city of academies where high school girls converse with swords and spears in hand.

A comedy character who loves macarons and a cup of tea.

Becoming a pink-haired dummy in a mobile game, acting as the weakest character with the pretty filter in my mouth and body.

Yet in my heart, a man’s fighting spirit still boils like lava.

RIP 130 Chapters in Fenrir 🙏

TL;DR : The story is a classic possession tale where a gacha game fan ends up in the body of Clara, a weak gag character from the game Yggdrasil Gate. The setting, Academy City, and characters bear a striking resemblance to those from Blue Archive, particularly Kivotos and characters like Takanashi Hoshino. The protagonist, Clara, is a pink-haired airhead who hides her immense power while causing trouble in mischievous ways. The story, with its engaging interactions and strong world-building, is clearly inspired by Blue Archive.... more>> While the translation quality is average, the story's potential and release schedule make it worth following.

• • •

Before we dive into the review, let's talk about the story's summary. It's your classic possession tale: a die-hard player of the gacha game Yggdrasil Gate gets possessed into the body of Clara, the game's weak and main gag character, and gets to enjoy the world of Yggdrasil Gate firsthand.

Although it's primarily a battle story with ability users, it also has strong high-teen elements. It really shines in showcasing the youth story of girls living in Academy City. Clara's ability to hide her powers and act like the original, foolish senior Clara, causing headache for everyone around her (in mischievous ways), is depicted brilliantly.

Now, let's discuss the setting. The story takes place in Academy City, home to various all-girls schools and academies, all managed by the student council. If this sounds familiar, it's because the setting closely resembles Kivotos from Blue Archive. This similarity extends beyond just the setting.

Next, let's focus on the protagonist, Clara. She's a pink-haired airhead who seems very incompetent. She's the only student at Central Prism Academy (before Arc 1 starts) but is probably the strongest person in the entire Academy City. Clara has a pretty impactful backstory and is merely following the story's plot. She's always joking around and uses her pretty-filter to be as annoying and chatty as possible. Her monologues even reference the Three Kingdoms, which is a nice touch. Clara resembles Takanashi Hoshino, but with a noisier personality. There are other side characters that resemble members of the Abydos Foreclosure Task Force, also I noticed some schools/academy that resembles Gehenna and Millenium, but let's not get into Blue Archive comparisons now.

Alright, I admit it, I'm a Blue Archive fan, but let's get to the actual review. There are barely 20 chapters out so far, but here are my thoughts. Despite having some slice-of-life vibes, the story isn't boring at all. The interactions between Clara and her juniors are genuinely engaging. There are also delinquents serving as mobs, there is also a villain organization called [Ratatosk] serving as an antagonistic organization, and you can't convince me this isn't inspired by Blue Archive, the resemblance is too obvious.

The current arc, which is the first, resembles Vol. 1 of The Foreclosure Task Force, except that Sensei isn't around (I'm not talking about the dark timeline). There's quite a bit of scheming and conspiracies happening in the background, along with some political intrigue. The world-building and storytelling are very strong, and the execution of the story is excellent. It has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see where it goes.

As for the translation quality, it's so-so. There are some grammatical errors, but they're not a huge problem. Sometimes, things are a bit hard to understand, even for someone used to MTL. While the translation isn't perfect, the release schedule is good, so I can't complain too much.

Also here's the Power Ranking System shown in the story, the main characters, and list of schools and organizations that has been shown so far:

This is surprisingly awesome and wholesome, like... wow, I love it~

How should I say this?

Scrolling through NU and seeing this baby~ I was expecting some beautiful-looking stone and yet I found myself struck pristine gold~

... more>> This novel is like one of those novels with a simple illustration for the cover yet a masterfully written story inside.

The setting is Academy City, the characters are thoughtfully crafted, the interactions are cute, adorable, and super badass, the fight scene is OP and satisfying, the power system seems solid and interesting, and most of all~ the MC is super likable (the best part), it's funny as heck~

I would say its potential is definitely up there among the top 3% of Korean novels.

I recommend you try it for yourself, you won't regret it.

This novel deserved its rating 5/5. <<less

Not really sure whats going on here. Theres no world building at all, nothing is explained, no backstory, no motivation for MC, no reasoning for their actions.

A lot of the points of the story are filled with glaring holes, MC has been here for a year but is broke even though shes really strong and can take down dungeons. The school has 0 staff and no other student (how would this function?) theres other schools and somehow they're in factions? Theres no mention of how MC is transmigrated or any... more>> mention of previous world stuff either

I tried to read up to this point expecting a payoff explanation but unfortunately theres none up until now. <<less

I was initially put off because of Rizatus's review, but I'm not sure why or how they came to the conclusion this was a BA fanfic. I'm by no means a BA fan at most I know of it through certain thin books but I was able to follow the story well enough. Admittedly, I fail to understand some parts of the setting that do seem to be copy pasted from BA though.

Spoiler

I'm not sure why Academy City exists as it does at all. Is it that everyone that grows past high school age suddenly loses all their ether? Do they simply retire from protecting the World Tree? I just don't understand why it has to be high school aged girls that protect the tree and why it has to be a school-like setting.

Based on the MC and the main cast that are enrolled at Central Prism Academy, it doesn't seem they have a proper curriculum at all? Let alone teachers or any relevant adult staff members. It seems the student council presidents (?) run the schools??? Honestly, there's a lot that I'm willfully ignoring and chalking up to the author wanting to use a similar setting as BA.

[collapse]

In that sense, I do somewhat understand their frustration I guess. I wouldn't call it a fanfiction though seeing as no characters are exactly the same (though clearly some heavy inspiration was taken at least from the aesthetics of certain characters of BA) and there seem to enough differences to distinguish it from BA's universe. It's fine as a standalone work. Probably more enjoyable as a BA fan, but entirely readable as a non-fan.

Setting aside, I did quite enjoy the novel up until where I've read (chapter 75). I like the MC, Clara, a lot. She can be quite a chaotic menace when she acts like an airhead
Spoiler

like the "original" Clara

[collapse]
and her interactions with her juniors at Central Prism Academy are great. However, she's a really reliable fighter who can step up when it matters most. One of the strongest parts of this novel is its portrayal of a good senior/junior relationship. When I read these parts, all I can think of is "Ahh, youth. How I dearly miss you."

Spoiler

While I do think the relationship of Clara with Alvit, Rota, and Kara is great, I especially adore the relationship between Clara and her 3 seniors. You can really tell how much she treasures her relationship with these 3 seniors and how much influence they have on her even down to things like her moniker [Pink Spiral].

[collapse]

Aside from that, I thought the romance between Clara and
Spoiler

Hilde

[collapse]
was also pretty nicely written in.

Massive spoilers ahead:

Spoiler

They initially were fierce rivals in their first year culminating in Clara winning at the tournament at the end of the year. While Clara was able to mostly let go of the rivalry and lay low for her second year and pretending to be a clueless senior in her third year, Hilde became the USC president and a very important figure with many responsibilities. All the while, it's clear she dearly misses Clara and even develops some Yandere tendencies soon after she sees Clara for the first time in senior year lol.

Unfortunately their proper reunion ends in Clara being so severely injured she was in a coma for 2 weeks. And in all that time, Hilde, despite her position and responsibilities, stuck by Clara's bedside the whole time.

Later on, we get to see how they initially became acquainted and that Hilde and Clara (or Lara as Hilde calls her) spent their time together regularly raiding dungeons in their first year and became close as a result. It's obvious Hilde cherishes Clara a lot as she even remembers the company of the brand of food Clara mentioned offhandedly as being her favourite (even though that was a lie lol)

In chapter 75, it seems they finally get together after Clara comes clean to Hilde about every secret she kept. I really look forward to the developments in their relationship >.<

[collapse]

Lastly, a slight critique from my end towards the author: they really like to kill the momentum sometimes. More than a couple of times I've noticed they wrote a flashback at the start of the chapter in the middle of a battle arc or something similar that just feels unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, most of these flashbacks are welcome
Spoiler

especially when it involves Clara with her seniors/Hilde

[collapse]
but the author really needs to stop inserting them in the middle of battle scenes or other high tension moments and ruining the atmosphere...

Overall, a solid 4.5/5. My final criticism is that it's another unneccessary GB to justify GL. It would've worked just as fine with a female protagonist from the beginning. I believe there are enough girls/women out there who are also fanatics about the romance of the three kingdoms that it wouldn't feel out of place for one to be as in love with it as Clara is.

Tl;dr - Not BA fanfic but has setting or character aesthetic that take heavy inspiration from it. GL lovers should check it out, but GB lovers should keep expectations low. <<less

I recommend this for anybody who's been disappointed with other yuri novels like this that are powertrip-harem types. The gender-bending isn't too significant in the plot at this point.

Impression:

Spoiler

The prologue shows the battle between the two top talents (Clara and Hilde) of the freshman year and pulls you into reading the next chapter to see what happens next (I thought there was going to be the "oh my god, I'm in a game!" for like 50 chapters, but the novel starts in the years after and explains throughout.)

[collapse]

World:

Spoiler

This novel takes place in Academy City, where the youth are trained to be the best in Ether, the magic of the world. It's kind of like the Academy City from Toaru if you've read it. There's multiple schools you can go to.

[collapse]

Clara (protagonist) :

Spoiler

AKA Lara. Our main character is a goofball who's seemingly dropped from the strongest of freshman year (Pink Spiral) to a third-year nobody in Central Prism Academy, where the original protagonist in the future goes to. She talks like a gyaru, but it isn't cringy or anything. She has tremendous fighting spirit and mental fortitude, which she covers up with her cutesy attitude. She's also incredibly caring and considerate towards her juniors. She was originally a man, but she has a censor and her body acts like a cutesy girl.

[collapse]

Brunhilde (love interest) :

Spoiler

AKA Hilde. She's considered the strongest in Academy City and is the "rival" of Clara. Reading ahead a little, she basically becomes a yandere for Clara after a misunderstanding and Clara dropping off the face of the earth after beating her. She think that Clara isn't attracted her anymore because she was the "loser" lol. She wants to be the strongest so she's always there for Clara to challenge, like in their freshman days. She was annoyed, but she's now yearning for her like 2 years after, aha.

Unexpectedly, very good so far. This story is about a guy transmigrated to a game into the pink airhead cutesy character.

The protagonist has a so called 'filter' that is like a compulsion so everything she says comes out cute. It's pretty funny when she thinks about serious quotes of the romance of the three kingdoms, but then says some nonsense about cute girls being princesses and having a tea party. At the novel start the protagonist has been in the game world for a while so she is already used... more>> to it, and I feel that sometimes she is having fun using her filter to annoy other people.

Of course, despite being a joke character the protagonist worked hard to become one of the top ether users referred as 'colors' because their unique colored ether, but because she wants the story of the game to start properly, that's a secret that only some third year students know; so as far as her first year junior (who is the original game mc) knows she is just an airhead senior. <<less

So many people praised this made me had my hope up too much, and I'm now disappointed more than ever.

TDLR: Don't read this if you don't play Blue Archive/don't know anything about Blue Archive. Read this if you want to self-insert yourself into Blue Archive I guess.

From the other reviews, you can understand that it's basically a fanfic of Blue Archive but with a self-insert OC (original character).

Well, here's the thing, if you know f*ck-all about Blue Archive like I do, you won't connect to this at all. Below is... more>> a list of reasons why I gave this 1*:

    • The story feels very whimsical, things keep happening and explanation only happens after or during what's happening, and that's f*cking confusing. For example, the first chapter is literally a fight between MC and a super powerful character at the final of a competition. We got literally no info about who the MC is, what is this game/this world the MC is in, why is MC fighting. The first chapter genuinely read like the end of an entire arc, rather than the first chapter of a story, and the story doesn't get better from here.
    • All the characters are introduced in a "I expect you to know and empathize/sympathize with this character already" way. I've read up to chapter 12, and basically there's only one chapter of backstory (or less) for each character so far (the backstories aren't even well-explained btw). The story/the author keeps writing in a way that assume the readers will feel/connect to the characters' situation immediately, but doesn't even bother to give more depth as to why we should feel for them.
    • Also, since the game in the story is basically just Blue Archive, if you don't play Blue Archive, you won't really understand 90% of the story. The author literally just assumed you already have the background knowledge and keeps throwing you directly into the world without bothering to explain more. Like seriously, what is the point of these fighting schools, who funded them, and what for? Why is the school MC is in is basically in ruin with only him in it? Why the f*ck is this new girl destined/fated to go here??
    • last and probably the worst thing is: this doesn't read like a Girl's Love at all. The MC only got filtered with what he said, but every actions and thoughts of his are very boyish, I can't think of him as a girl at all. He just feels like a convenient placeholder so male readers can self-insert into and feel good.
Also, let's do a quick comparison with another yuri series (The Eldest Martial Sister Gave Up Treatment, or Eldest Sister for short) where the MC also got transmigrated to a game with a similar settings to understand how a good/decent story should be:

    • a good story should introduce information clearly whenever needed. For example, when Eldest Sister started, we immediately got some basics information of the world of the game, and what role the MC plays. This one (Pink Airhead for short) only introduces the role MC plays, while literally all the fundamental information about the world is brushed aside/introduced much much later because the author assumed the readers will know it from Blue Archive.
    • a good story should always give time for readers to familiarize with the characters. Eldest Sister always had at least one chapter to introduce the notable side-characters. Main characters usually have entire arcs dedicated to their backstories and how they will fit into the story with the MC. Meanwhile, Pink Airhead introduced about 4-5 important characters (with a f*ck ton of other side characters) in literally the first 12 chapters. Unless you know Blue Archive, it's unlikely you can remember all of them, or even care about their sob-stories.
    • a good story should never assume any knowledge the readers may or may not have. Eldest Sister is a wuxian series about Chinese cultivation stuff, and most of the cultivation knowledge is common if you have read at least one wuxian story before. However, the author doesn't assume you will know it, and will try to introduce things as the story goes so that things can make sense. On the other hand, Pink Airhead kinds of assumes you already know which characters are strong based from the Blue Archive game, and the powerscale system is built up from there. Which again means that if you don't know Blue Archive, you will feel a bit confused, because the story starts literally with the strongest stuff (MC is basically OP) before introducing the basic levels.
So yeah, in conclusion, this is a good fanfic for Blue Archive, but a pretty terrible original story to read. I literally had 15+ Blue Archive wiki tabs open to search for the characters/details being mentioned to try and follow the story. <<less

It's good.

Everyone reviewing has already said most of what I would've said so I'll just say, I do like our outwardly airheaded inwardly 3 kingdoms fanboy protagonist.

"I've been transmigrated into a game" has 2 paths it usually takes

... more>> 1. The protagonist doesn't treat it as a game

2. The protagonist treats it as a game and either gets super angsty about it or the author uses it as a gag ("haha, isn't it funny that he's acting chuuni towards these people because he thinks it's a game?")

It's not the main focus but over the chapters is that it is revealed that the MC has had to struggle with thoughts of it being a game, of the people they know being NPCs and their right to meddle in the main story... but and I don't want to spoil it, the way they were able to resolve that and grow with the help of their formerly nameless Seniors who don't even appear in the "main game" was really uplifting and touching.

I don't usually get sappy about web novels but that REALLY hit me in the feels.

While parts of the novel feels rough I think that subtle character moment alone is enough to warrant letting this author cook and following along for the ride. <<less

This was good. The author knows how to write "peak". There were 3 or 4 times I went absolutely balling when reading this novel. The emotional build up, foreshadowing, symbolism, and all the little things lead up to each emotional climax.

Only complain is that the latter half after ch80 or so, the pacing became off. This story would be wonderful with 30 more chapters or so. Sometimes, it does feel like I am slogging through, however, it is worth it to see the end of the story.

Honestly, I have no idea what Rizatus is talking about. I've never played Blue Archive and probably never will, yet I still found this work quite compelling.

The setting in this novel isn’t so complex that it requires opening 15+ tabs just to keep track of things—especially considering it’s a completely unrelated series.

If anything, the setting feels more inspired by Norse mythology than anything else. The story focuses more on relationships and character development than it does on Girl’s Love themes. Clara and the MC are different for a reason.

I’m really... more>> not sure where they got the idea that this is fanfiction. A quick search shows that most of the names don’t even match up. Plus, Ether—the main energy source and foundation of the power system in this novel—doesn’t even exist in Blue Archive.

...

On another one, this novel is quite nice. Hilde's pretty cute. <<less

The point here is not about "Zhis iz saem as Lueb Arkaive!!1"

It is a norse myths readaptated to girly dreams of friendship.

It gives nice points about acceptance of the lost in other world, like Traveler in Teyvat.

The "isekai" is not only about self-insertion in a fav story.

The "academy" is not only about being smartass over professors and geniuses

It was good at the start. But then it went downhill.

It feels like the descriptions are lacking in a way. I don't know how to describe it accurately (which isn't a good thing, considering I write things too lol). But it just feels very fast-paced, and the MC glosses over things, and not enough perspectives are shown. Like a character is introduced by some weird description from the MC, said character is first stunned by MC's actions, then amazed/impressed, and then the character shows up like once in a blue... more>> moon after that. The characters are only memorable by specific features and not personalities. There's a lack of depth, I think, is what I'm getting at.

The way the MC describes things is also.... weird. It's very "tell" vs "show", if you know what I mean. Yes, that's not always a bad thing, but if that's how you're going to describe like all the fight scenes... yeah.... I don't know why I read so much of this.

I think I'm going to drop it here. Ciao. <<less

You ever read something to pass the time and then somehow along the way the tr*sh actually developed a plot? The only thing you need is the willingness to read this until the end.

Why do the girls stay in schools without teachers? Why do they beat each other up? Why are there dwarves? Who knows?

Then suddenly, the story resolves that plothole and you realize, 'my god, it was dropping hints the entire time'. Though I have to admit, sometimes the resolution can seem abrupt.

'It will become good later' is not... more>> a good reason to read this. Instead, I recommend reading this because it is peak tr*sh fiction. The description of the attacks are all over the place, references to the Three Kingdoms are somehow there (kudos to the TL for writing all the explanations), and if you need justification for every plothole ever, then this is not the story for you.

I read while grinning, while cackling, while sobbing, while in disbelief. Fans of <Swamp Girl!> and <Fake Saint of the Year> will likely enjoy reading this. <<less

You're meant to be a little disoriented due to the two-year timeskip from the prologue to the start of the main story, but the explanations are there. The translation style has many fragments and things not explicitly stated, but that seems to reflect the protagonist's personality (allusions to Three Kingdoms, and seeming head-in-the-clouds due to internal digressions, but rather brusque on external details), so I didn't mind it.

I don't know Blue Archive, so I can't speak to any similarities there, but I followed the story and setting without that knowledge.

Man... more>> from our world dies and wakes up as the incompetent senior to the original protagonist's group, Clara, complete with a pretty-filter over everything she says, three years prior to the start of 'canon'. Now 'Lara', she opts to work around Clara's built-in limitations, culminating in the clash in the prologue with Lara and Hilde, canon's strongest character. And Lara "Pink Spiral" wins.

But what then? What use is Lara's strength, when the story where the world was saved didn't have Pink Spiral?

The start of the story shows Lara's decision: to erase Pink Spiral and get the story back on track to canon.

That's impossible, of course, but the why and Lara's journey to realizing that is really interesting and heartwarming. It's funny and absurd at times, but the sincere care these girls show for each other is just really nice. A few twists I didn't expect as well. And Lara might just be the last person to realize Hilde like-likes her. <<less

the world-building is a bit meh, I won't say it's bad but it was hard to understand if you did not play Blue Archive beforehand to understand how their world works. (I'm pretty sure it's based on Blue Archive but maybe I'm wrong)

except for that reason, it was quite an enjoyable story. The story pacing is not too rushed or too slow that it has no progress. Each character has unique traits and is fun to read. The plot has its goal to achieve and is easy to understand.
