I enjoyed this novel quite a lot - the author and translator both do a good job to portray the sister-in-law as an adorable, easily flustered virg*n-killer girlfriend candidate. That said, this novel is going to raise and then ignore just so much potential drama, to the point where I keep expecting the tone of the novel to take a drastic turn at some point. I'm docking one star because of this unresolved tension, but otherwise I think it's a pretty good take on the classic sis-con story.

Spoiler
  1. The sister-in-law doesn't seem to have any friends, instead spending all her time with her new brother-in-law. When she waits for him during his club activities, she waits alone. She doesn't seem to chat with anyone over the phone, and anytime she goes out with friends she's going out with his friends. Her situation seems incredibly unstable and she seems maladjusted to her new environment, but this situation is never mentioned explicitly and is kept as an undertone throughout everything.
  2. The MC keeps getting close to a variety of attractive girls both in and out of the presence of his little sister, only for the girls to never be mentioned again. There's a strong unresolved tension as the girls dip in and out of his life.
  3. The MC's friend dropped a bomb early on (~c20) that implies she holds a slight grudge against him as a genius who doesn't understand the feelings of people who have less talent. This is never followed up on.
  4. They live a very wealthy lifestyle, frequently eating out at expensive (~$15-30/person) restaurants. They're given $1500 of food and living expenses (not even including housing costs or anything). Their disposable income is on par with some people's monthly budget including rent, and their parents' jobs don't seem affluent enough to support such a lifestyle. Again, this is never called out explicitly.
  5. The MC is asked to write a novel, despite having no writing experience. All the flags seem pointed towards him succeeding without any roadblocks, but there are frequent references to his inexperience with writing that never get followed up on.

Overall, it's somewhat mediocre.

The chapters are short, almost nothing happens, and it's written in very short sentences without much description.

It doesn't even give the impression of a sis-con but rather two attractive teenagers who happened to move in together without significant adult supervision and superficially treat each other as siblings. And yet, there's not even a mention of any internal conflict between feeling attracted to a person you're supposed to treat as your sibling.

The MC is pointlessly popular and all the interaction with other characters is superficial. Plot developments are... more>> sudden and unnatural without any foreshadowing.

It's somewhat fluffy and cute at times, but it's not a novel that can be described as well-written. <<less

I’m loving this one so far. The translation is excellent quality, cultural references and things you might not know are explained nicely in the footnotes, and it’s being translated super quickly so you don’t have to worry about waiting!

The story itself is a lovely and sweet one so far. So sweet you might get diabetes...

Characters have been pretty interesting so far, it’s early days so I can’t speak much on their depth, but I’ve enjoyed them so far.

A fun, cute, sickeningly sweet slice of life story. 10/10 would melt even... more>> the coldest of hearts! I recommend it! <<less

On the first 3 chapters, you'll see that the author just created the minimum introductory or environment for the MC and his new sister to flirt. They literally just started living with each other, and now they act as a close siblings, and what's more is the sister started calling her Nii-san when he just helped her moving their things and the MC says he doesn't want her sister to get a sunburn. Their parent's are not often at home. What's the point of remarriage? Just for the MC to... more>> have a sister?

This is weird to be honest. Now the MC is also in a cliche situation where he is in a club full of female members. Then there's also a cringe-ass dialogue about wanting to protect his sister. I don't hate fast romance, but I don't think it suits in this kind of story. There's also extra dialogues that should be better to just narrate, now it feels like I'm reading a manga.

If you like a mediocre story and can ignore the lack of enough background for the characters, then maybe you'll like this. <<less

This isn’t worth your time to read, but if you have nothing else to do and have lots of free time in an afternoon, it's not the worst thing as a time killer either.

The world is bare bone, it’s basically dead.

The characters are bland, if I have to write a profile for each of them I can fill out with just a few words. Beside occasional clothing descriptions, there isn’t any physical descriptions for any characters at all.

The chapters are extremely short. I don’t know if it was the raw... more>> or the TLs, the chapters are just strings of incoherent thoughts. The characters most of the time just say ‘Yes’ and that’d be it.

The TLs quality is not good either, basically a lot of chapters lack proof reading and lots of grammatical errors. <<less
