This is a well translated, decently written story (in terms of syntax and grammar). However, it boggles my mind why the protag is a vampire.

The story opens at the climax of an exciting, authentic vampire story. The agents of the church have captured the protag after a long pursuit through the countryside. The templar then executes the vampire protag.

The protagonist regresses to a period of time before he was dis covered. From this point forward, it ceases to be a legitimate vampire tale. He can walk in the sun, has... more>> no burning desire to feast on human blood, etc. Etc. The major drawbacks, which balance out the fact that vampires are super predators, do not exist here.

The fact that he even has ability steal in certain situations, wrecks the vulnerabilities vampires are supposed to have. Essentially Eugene is the classic op character masquerading as a vampire.

What also frustrated me was that no one (aside from a sympathetic wizard) could figure out he was a vampire post-regression!!! It was established that vampires are a known adversary of mortals, and that the templars hunt them. Eugene is clearly firmly within the human domain, so why is it that no one, even Templars who later travel into a dungeon with him, can identify him as a vampire! His eyes are red, his skin is pale, and before he figured out he didn't need to hide from the sun, he suspiciously avoided direct sunlight. Combined with his feats of supernatural strength I find it comical not a single person suspected him of being a vampire (even Templars).

Furthermore, you would think a person who was hunted and killed by the Church pre-regression would keep a low profile. Nope, not this guy. He quickly abandons the notion of concealing himself and acts like a knight and pursues political power in the human domain. I dont care how weak the Church's influence is, humans society would tear him apart if the discovered what he was, yet he wants to integrate into their power structures in such a high profile way. However you slice this, the author clearly has no intention of writing a vampire story. The author wanted to write another op wish fulfillment story in a medieval fantasy setting, but dressed it up as a vampire story to bring some novelty. <<less

If you just want to read a novel about an OP MC where everything goes his way and misunderstanding always happen to work in his favor, go ahead. It's a good enough novel to pass the time with. But it's not much beyond that.

All the side characters end up in awe or worship of the MC unrealistically fast when MC doesn't do much beyond acting in common sense and being strong, it's just that most other people in the MC's position act s*upid or arrogant so he ends up looking... more>> good in comparison.

One of the main things that bothers me is that the main motivation the MC has is hunting strong monsters that drop red mana stones, which he can eat to gain unique abilities. The problem being that he could easily do that on his own with his camouflage ability by sneaking into dungeons without anyone detecting him, yet he follows the human rules and brings mercenaries around with him despite not needing any help in combat. Then he ends up gaining territory and knights and becoming a lord, but there's no obvious benefit to him doing so when it comes to his initial objective. He's more than powerful enough to get everything he needs with his own abilities.

Also, so far he's only used his 'vassal' ability on one person despite there being obvious advantages to using it on more of his subordinates. It gives them a huge power boost and prevents them from betraying him, with no obvious downsides. If he used it on his other subordinates it seems obvious they would be capable of carrying out more tasks on their own and also face less unexpected danger, yet the thought hasn't even crossed his mind once so far. And the first guy he made a vassal was only because he would have died otherwise.

Last point which lowered my opinion is his complete lack of interest in women. The dude is described as being inhumanly handsome but what's the point if those good looks are never put to use? This point is obviously personal bias but I stand by it.

Overall it's a good enough time killer, but it has a lot of wasted potential in my opinion. 3/5 <<less

I was hoping for more of a gritty vampire tale with a focus on revenge and a battle of whits between the MC and the church; what I got was kingdom building/ subordinate gathering/ politics, etc. Yes there are fights, but mostly he just sweeps through places and becomes a lord insanely quickly and no one ever questions his identity. Which seems a bit strange with those glowing red eyes and all. For a vampire who needs to keep his head down until he's powerful enough to get revenge, he... more>> isn't very subtle. After fifty or so chapters, he doesn't seem to care about revenge anymore, or at least he doesn't mention it. He just wants to gather more power, more s*aves, more followers, etc. To be honest, by chapter 70 I was getting bored so I decided to drop for now. <<less

I'm focused on the chapters themselves because that's what makes this novel for me, along with the novelty of having a vampire MC and good writing.

  • Chapter length is lengthier in comparison to Regressed Demon Lord is Kind, SLR, OG. In other words, more content is covered within a chapter.
  • The chapters are better at plot progression than the other 3 novels in that the progress towards conflicts, whether macro or micro in scale, is always significant. This means if anything is meant to further the story, it's not a half measure but a full measure.
  • Piggybacking off the 2nd bullet, I'm never left feeling that the chapter ended on a cliffhanger or frustrated that a plot device was introduced with no follow-up on it.
  • (Sub bullet) i.e., Eugene (MC) gets a new power, becomes more complete as a vampire, etc. Within the chapter, but rather being solely introduced, it's expanded on in the same chapter. This leaves me not feeling teased or frustrated. So instead of being enticed with a carrot on a stick at the end of the chapter, I'm intrigued by the novelty of a Vampire MC and the quality plot progression.

90% of the story is about the MC acting like a knight instead of a vampire: the novel title is a joke. Worse, schemes and strategies between nobles and knights are boring, predictable, and side characters completely uninteresting. If the world building is nice and drives the reading for the first 10 chapters, the plot is very slow paced. Furthermore, the MC becomes OP too fast, so much that he already can ... more>>

survive and behave normally in daylight after 20 chapters with a powerfull armor and camouflage skills. He could even use this camouflage gift to infiltrate dungeons and cities, and prey on powerfull victims, monsters or humans, but no, MC still acts like a boring knight.

The writing is quite simple and to the point, some words are a bit repetitive, some points are inconsistent, like, MC's aristocratic bearing when he never had an education... maybe its a vampire thing that runs in the blood to hunt prey? the story is interesting though, and so far leaves me wanting to know what Eugene will do next.

Edited:

I cant put it down, it looks like the author improved a lot when compared to Duke Pendragon! The start as I said its a bit rocky in writing but, once... more>> it picks up its hard to stop.

Last edit:

The ending was a huge disappointment, I felt the author just wanted to be done with it. <<less

1. OVERALL THOUGHTS:

I think you need to read 40 chapters before writing a review of this.

The story pretty much starts developing from that chapter. I completly understand that there are people who didn't manage to withstand and make it to this chapter, following bad reviews and ratings.

... more>> From chapter 10 to chapter 40 the story develops really slow and once I reached chapter 40 I understood why this novel has so low ratings, it's because people dropped it before they reached that point.

Anyway, the story after chapter 40 is perfect to me. It's a mix of Song of Ice and Fire and other famous western novels. This is the first eastern novel that I've read that feels good as a whole, not like most of the eastern novels where there are only certain parts that are good.

The story of the novel is quite interesting, there is no leveling system, no mercenary /adventeruer ranks or whatever so basically it's hard to predict how strong people are in this novel world.

There are no plot holes and author is forshadowing many things so the story was well planned.

I'm pretty sure this If this book was officialy released in the west, it could compete with some known fantasy titles.

-----

2. STORY (SPOILER'S FREE)

The story is about a Vampire who decided to get stronger, after he died in his previous life.

He starts to pretend to be a knight and that's basically the start of his journey.

MC lost some part of his memories and he tries to get to know his past true.

His main goals are to get stronger, learn about his past and vampires as a whole.

3. CHARACTERS

Character's are easily recognizable, you easily tell who is speaking just by what the person was speaking or how.

Most of the characters feel alive, they have their own methods of thinking and acting, depending of the situation they are in. <<less

I don't know why but there is a shortage of novels about vampires. (Maybe I just can't find any) I like story. I like characters. I recomand it. Main character is really good at deceiving people. He is slowly building up his power in human world. I'm waiting for world of vampires to be more developed. (My rating is that high because I rarely see any good story about vampirest btw hate Twilight. Sorry)

Perfect example of strong start/first half and then collapse on the 2nd half. The 2nd half became a joke. Sharing the same worldview as the author's previous novels, it seems that he's having a hard time finishing a series in a good way. The side stories was made to be understood by reading the previous work, duke pendragonn ending in a similar shi**y manner. I'd consider it a fun read for the first half but went downhill. Added some plots and developments and sometimes ridiculous action the total score will... more>> be 3 stars. <<less

Yeah...... This was an interesting Story to read. My one and only complaint about it is the ending. The ending did not satisfy almost everyone who read it. There's a Common feeling for us and that was "B.S WTF is this ending".

The ending was seriously p*ssworthy, enough to make you want to punch the author.

Seems like if you rephrase the title as "How to Live as Knight and Feudal Lord who is also a Vampire, " it's clearer what you're in for.

The beginning got boring after the first few chapters. The MC was too dense and passive, showing very little initiative. There were a lot of silly and boring conversations that added nothing to the setting or characterization. But then it improves somewhat after chapter 40 for a while.

Nevertheless, the MC is basically showered in benefits, gifts, and money due to misunderstandings. He'll say... more>> something to a merchant like, "in the meantime, I'll find an inn to stay in, " and they'll think, "I can't believe he expects us to pay for his inn!! I guess I have to, boohoo." Suuure.

The kingdom building feels superfluous. If MC recruits a group of mercenaries, odds are it's just for appearances, because he usually tells them to wait and fights on his own. He doesn't do any governing or administrating himself, though—but that doesn't help it feel relevant either.

For me, the worst thing is that the MC has an obnoxious chatterbox sidekick. At first I thought it would be a tolerable character, but it got worse. The majority its dialogue starts with, "Kieeeeeek!!" and is just repeating something it's already said multiple times before. (Usually, "... like those naked people I saw licking and sucking each other in...")

I noticed there is not a single decent female character in the main cast. They alternate between being depicted as pathetic, useless, and disgusting. They're also the target of constant "verbal ab*se". I can only suspect the author hates writing female characters, yet feels like they must have a few?

BTW, repeat after me. Having "a setting" is not the same as having "world-building." A setting is a basic, world-building is advanced. You probably mean "the setting" not "the world-building." <<less

MC goes from being framed and mu*dered to the past where he slowly gain power and find his forgotten past.

The interesting part of the novel is the vampire lore such as weakness to sunlight n silver and inability to enter home without permission. The 1st n 2nd weakness he overcome w his skill and later on as he discover his origin and the last he work together or threaten others to overcome ... more>>

eg. Where the bandits hid in the abondon Castle and MC belittle them w micro pen1s until they welcome MC to f*ck them up, whereby MC continues to f*ck w them as ghost

[collapse]

The lore for knighthood is also good since the MC is still considered a Knight by most and I like that MC don't just gonna ascend into king n United all land to be emperor or godhood, and European ambiance is refreshing too since I'm so used to Xianxia

MC lived his life as close to human behaviour so MC is more neutral or chaotic good and since MC power up so fast it's interesting to see how MC overcome obstacles via human method. It'll be boring if MC just one shot win everything. Even the political struggles and Castle building is interesting since its short enough.

The side characters r also unique such as the water fairy that turn into evil money spirit, the elven princess that's weirdly h0rny for the spirit and for honor {imagine konosuba aqua and the darkness knight}

As for the romance or harem part, I'm super satisfied w the absent of it 👍👍👍 <<less

This could've easily been a 5/5.... but.... oof the ending was so disappointing.

This story was delivering in every aspect. Regressed Op MC going on an adventure which initially seemed pretty straightforward but later he finds out there was more to what he initially believed things were. It had mystery, cool op scenes, cute characters and what not....

However... Where the story disappointed me was the last 20 chapters or so..... We were headed to an epic final battle and then... nothing....

We got NOTHING. The story behind everything was essential NOTHING. The... more>> reveal was soooo lame! Eugene's hunt for the person who made him suffer? NOTHING! And also the

The beginning was enjoyable but around the halfway point it started to go downhill. Ending felt like the author got bored. I'd have still given it a 3 rating as the beginning was quite good but the sidestories ruined an already mediocre ending.I would reccomend not reading the side stories if you get to the end as all it really does it ruin a character giving them a sh*t end which makes no sense based on the how to character had acted up to that point.

MC is giga chad. Not taking any compromise. Exactly what I like.

"Kyah! The water tastes incredible. Is it from a stream? Is it spring water?"

"Ah, well... I just came across it on the way, " Eugene waved it off with a vague explanation. He couldn't tell the truth. He couldn't tell him that the water was from a water spirit's 'spit and wizz.'

"Did you hear that? Did you hear? I told you! I told you that it tastes better when it comes out the other way! Didn't I? Ehem! Ehemhem!"
