Right after transmigrating into a parallel world, Yang Yi was a bit stupefied upon seeing a adorable little girl calling him father. Fine, Xixi is 100% my daughter, but my child’s mother is actually an aloof, absolute beauty who’s a famous singer.

How do I coax my baby? Yang Yi, who was a assassin in his previous life, scratched his head. How about I tell some stories? Yang Yi didn’t think that the stories he imported from his previous world would be famous world-wide! How do I bring back my child’s mother who left in anger? The experienced Yang Yi indicated that there was no problem a love song couldn’t fix. And if it couldn’t, then two songs!

The top two reviews on this story made me ignore it for awhile, but honestly... to use their own words, their reviews are rubbish.

One of their complaints is that the MC is an ex-killer who doesn't act like one. Except... he does. There is even one event where it's never clearly stated, but you are pretty sure he disappeared a guy, permanently. For me, I believe half of this novel is the MC's character development. He's actually allowing himself to express the interests he had in his former life. Even... more>> a super assassin is probably going to have hobbies and interests, but he never allowed them to be more than that. This new life gives him that chance. I love this. Character development is something I feel many novels miss, but it's a core feature in this one. The MC changes, the baby mama changes, the child grows up. It's very well done.

The complaints about him being scared are s*upid too. This novel clearly expresses what his issues are and they make complete sense. The original owner of the body hated his child's mother being in the entertainment field and he made it very clear that he wanted her to quit and he was an ultra nationalist. Now, they had a lot of misunderstandings because they didn't talk much at all and didn't know each other well, but the MC's changes are still very drastic. I loved the way this was handled and it doesn't drag on forever either.

I also like that while he is stealing work from his original world and passing it off as his own in the new one, he doesn't just copy/paste them. He adjusts them to the history of the world, he does extensive research, he attends some college classes to learn skills he doesn't have, and he makes an effort to do the original work the justice it deserves. IRAS is a novel that had the first part, but it failed a ton in the second aspect. He doesn't feel like a thief coasting to success on the backs of others. He puts in actual effort.

I also saw some comments about this novel being a bit nationalistic and that just boggled my mind. No one is racist in this book. One of the books the MC releases is set in a time period that had Japanese invaders, but it's far more historical and there are pretty much zero nationalistic or racist overtones. The MC's father is the closest character that has come to being nationalistic, but even he is tolerant and recognizes he shouldn't be spreading those views to his granddaughter.

TLDR : Amazing novel. Good character development, protagonist who actually wants to improve himself, and an amazingly heartwarming novel with adorable interactions between a family that learns to love and take care of one another. <<less

This story is complete rubish! The MC is nothing like a killer. How would a killer have watched Frozen?! He also knows about all the other fairy tails. This is dumb because the author said that the MC had blood on his hands at the age of 4! He is always scared and has no confidence. He can never keep his calm and always acts s*upid. It would be fine if his soul fused with a loser but it didnt! His soul fused with an ex member of the elite... more>> special forces! How could a member of the elite special forces not keep their calm? But thats not the worst part. The worst part is that he's scared to show his music skills because he thinks his wife will find out that he's not the mc! Why would she think that he wasnt the mc? Would she think that he can transform into people! WTF is this MC thinking! She hasn't even met the MC that much. They had a one night stand and then the wife ran away. She gave birth to his kid and he found out a few months ago. She would just think that the MC was hiding his skills.

Edit: I forgot about the dumbest character so far. Its his wife's record companies leader. The author went on a rant about how she was a good character and his readers are just idiots. She has the dumbest plans that I have ever heard. She only gave the MC's wife bad songs so her record would fail. That way she can resign her for cheaper when her contract ends over a year from now! This is super dumb and I should not even need to explain why. Then the MC wrote her 12 all star level songs and she tries to steal them! The MC warns her and signs full rights over to her for free. Now she's up to something else and I cant take no more!

Edit: Its also impossible for there to be no sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, iTunes, Amazon and E Commerce in a world that already has stuff like smartphones. How could buisnessmen ever ignore a market with billions of people for that long?! Amazon started in 1994 and started to get big in the early 2000s. I think ebay started to get big in the late 90s.

Edit: The authors use of the water army is cringeworthy and infuriatingly s*upid. The songs that he wrote for his wife get destroyed by the water army. How could some guys talking bs on the internet ruin their songs? Have you seen the comment section on a YouTube music video? The people they could pay to talk sh•• would only be a drop in the ocean. They would also make people want to listen to the song and see how bad it was. Then they would find out its awesome and buy it.

Edit: The author makes people pay for YouTube videos in this novel. He says its because of the copyright act in that world. YouTube would get way less views if you had to pay for it. They also couldn't get there ad revenue unless they wanted to be really scummy. You can tell that the author shares the same feelings as qidian when it comes to buisness. <<less

Well, let me make a simple review regarding this novel, by reading this, I hope you can choose, will read it, or not read it at all. This is to avoid any disappointment people that can't read (yes, can't read the genre and the tags)

So before we start, I think you already read the synopsis right? Hold on, before you read this novel, go check out the genre and the tags. Already read it? Good. Let me make a simple and short review 1st.

Wait a sec, Have you ever... more>> read Godly Stay Home Dad and I'm Really a Superstar? Well, if I can say, this story are better that those two stories. The reason? You can find it below.
    1. When you read the synopsis, and think this will be mainstream modern day reincarnation story, where MC is ex assassin or something that can kill left and right, and arrogant you master left and right, well, "DONT READ THIS NOVEL". Because there are none of that trope and theme that be use in this story.
    1. When you read the genre and the tags, and you think this will be a mainstream modern day celebrity and showbiz story, where faceslapping left and right, salty offended people left and right, arrogant celebrity left and right, well "DONT READ THIS NOVEL. Because none of that trope and theme that be use in this story.
Just read those two point, and if you expect something like that, trust me, you need to ignore this novel completely.

Why did I give this novel 5 stars? Because this novel is one of those novel that keep relevant and consistent to the story and have a goal from the beginning of the story and when this story end, its end so beautifully. Even sometimes I want it more.

Like the synopsis said, in the 1st paragraph, this is the story about Father and Daughter. How MC became the best Dad, and how the daughter grow up with fantasy that MC keep feed her up, so she can grow up just like Princess in Disney stories, Beautiful, humble, love by friends, love by family. Its a slice of life story that focus on "Everyday life of Father and Daughter"

When you read this novel, you need to expect the story will focus on MC and his daughter. All of theme just side story at the best (showbiz and celebrity stuff), or I can say, it have the role for MC to get his goal.

Why I bring Godly stay home dad and IRAS in this novel? Because the similarity of and how difference author handle the story.

Compare to Godly stay home dad

    1. MC is humble, friendly, easy going, easy to talk. Meanwhile Godly stay home dad, MC is arrogant, c*cky, hard to talk, and most of his allies and friend are afraid or respect him because his strenght, not because his personality.
    1. MC teach his daughter like normal human teach their kids. He fed up his daughter with disney princess stories, so his daughter can grow as beautiful and humble with friend and family. Meanwhile Godly stay home dad, he teach his daughter like "how to grow up like a god", even later in the story (when his daughter in middle school, she have her own gang)
    1. Mostly side characters have a role in this story. They have character, they have relationship to MC, slowly this people became big family with MC. Not became ass licking like side characters in Godly stay home dad because they afraid of him.
    1. MC being love by his fans, his friends, his daughter friend, and his daughter friend parents. So many story to tell about MC going out with his friends. My favorite one is his daughter best friend that love MC so much.
Compared to IRAS

    1. Because his hobbies to watch movie, listening to music, read the novels, MC have knowledge from his previous world. The difference between IRAS, he bring this to this world just because he want to. Not because he want to brag to someone, not because he want to show off, or he want to face slapping someone. No, just because he want to. He want to bring the movies (especially disney movies) so his daughter can watch it. He listening to music, and bring the music to this world so he can give his wife a song to sing and kid song for his daughter. He write the novels (especially kid story), so he know this world lack of children books, and he make it so they can read it. He even bring adult novel, so he can sell it to achieved his goals.
    1. He isn't racist. He accept non Chinese culture very much.
    1. Even tho this is celebrity and showbiz story, people have a brain in this story. Not toxic as IRAS. They know what right what wrong. Especially so called "fans". Not like "fans" in IRAS, that just 1 sec gossip out, they already became toxic and became MC enemy, LOL.
Regarding romance, its quite straight forward. Old Body Owner (lets call it OBO), are retired elite soldier. He became FMC bodyguard, and when FMC getting drugged and almost got r*pe, he help her. But unfortunately, OBO got affected by the drugged, so they f*ck. Later FMC found out she is pregnant and go hiatus (as singer) and went aboard to her family to delivered the baby. She doesn't want her kid fatherless, so she tried to contact OBO and tried to made up as a couple. But, OBO had "Overproud Chinese Brain", he hate FMC lifestyle because so western, he want her to stop became singer (what the hell dude, you don't even working, and you want your wife not working too? LoL), all in all, OBO are scumbag. Thats why in the beginning of the story, when MC enter OBO body, FMC hard to swallow of this changes. So, she got a little tsundere there.

The cons that I can think of, "if you hate Slice of life story, then this isn't for you". Maybe thats the cons that I can think. Because in this story, barely have conflicts. The conflicts in this story, related how real life works. For example, what will happen if you got 2 type of parents (one is modern parents, and one is old school parents), how they handle their "in law". Or conflict in showbiz theme, the antagonist had a brain. When they try to fight (with scheme) with MC, and they lose, the stop right there. Because they understand, if they keep going, they will f*cking lose more.

Thats all I can say, if I said more, I will spoiled it more. LoL. <<less

Pretty rubbish novel. The MC was an ex-killer but he hardly ever uses any skills or shows any signs of being an ex-killer. Heck this s*upid fool seems to spend more time reading webnovels, listening to music and watching tv shows like a NEET than a killer.

The interactions between Xixi, Mo Fei and the MC are this book's only saving grace. Everything else in it is rubbish. Hints of chinese nationalism scattered about and the rest of the world building and money making is tr*sh.

OK first of all this looks like a very heartwarming story about a previously assassin/hit-man who transmigrated into another body and to his surprise he is met with the fact that he has a child. If you don't enjoy the premise or the slice of life genre this book will most likely not be for you so don't go around spreading your negativity of why the dad doesn't go around killing people for money, E.T.C. Overall a solid book without many problems. A few plot holes here and there but... more>> nothing exactly outstanding or important. <<less

All I have to say is... this is a real deal. The first ever chinese book that is slice of life and child care I've ever read. I've seen some other father MC things (I mean in chinese). They are just your usual MC usual plot + a child. But this one is different. This one also got an ex-assasin but a better character. Usually, MCs always say they want to be a normal guy but always resort to violence, killing, other things after they left some bad guy... more>> alone until they become a threat to him. Can't find the guy who wants to retire cause he wants normalcy. This book is different. MC was never fully assasin since the start. He got humanity. He got common sense. He got normal hobbies. After he transfered, he put down his old works and tried to be the best father he could be. No arrogant MC. No s*upid antagonists and almost no action. His personality is truly one you could enjoy reading. But I won't recommend for those who can't read slice of life genre. The thing I like the most is MC is no patriot and although there are some china supremency element, it is kept in check to readable extent and no racism! Thats right! Racism always destroys many promising chinese novels and this one got none! So I really recommend it! <<less

So before you read this novel, I can tell that there would be polar opposites of opinions. If you like fluffy, day-to-day life of a doting parent and a cute little daughter, this is the novel for you. If you're expecting something more because the MC was a killer in his past life, then this isn't the novel for you. Basically, if you like child-rearing stories, read it. If you are looking for something more, just skip it entirely.

Spoiler

HDLL, in it's essence, is a novel about a doting dad and his cute daughter. Yes, there would be some interactions with Mo Fei and the entertainment business as a whole, but that plays second fiddle to Yang Yi and Xixi (the dad and the daughter).

There will be alot of references to Chinese Pop Culture, such as popular Cantonese and Chinese songs that most of the Western audience will be unfamiliar with. TV dramas, movies and variety shows from 'our world' will also be put into the story, so to fully enjoy the novel, you will need to have some basic understanding of Chinese culture. Though there would be the odd Western story such as Shawshank Redemption, mostly the works the Yang Yi will introduce are from the East.

Some examples of the pop culture references are like China's version of Running Man, The Voice of China, popular songs like "You exist in my song, " "Marry me today, " "Bicycle, " and even an English song "I'm Yours."

Though you don't need to know all of the songs to enjoy the novel, you can most definitely look them up and listen/watch them.

And yes... Unfortunately, there is a little bit of Chinese Nationalism. However, it is never in the forefront of the story, more like an afterthought to enhance the MC's point of view. The only one that really put me off is when he was in America and shocked hunters with his hunting skills. Then people were like "Wow, Chinese soldiers are this awesome..." A minor detail, but it never made me want to give up the novel unlike other Chinese stories with blatant Chinese Nationalism that crossed the threshold into racism.

[collapse]

The best part of the story is most definitely Xixi. Watching how Yang Yi tries to balance the line between spoiling her and teaching the right values to her is a treat to read. I'd never read a doting father story that actually shows the struggles of fatherhood and child-rearing to this extent (at least on Novelupdates). Of course, since Yang Yi is basically Superman in this novel, there isn't much struggle when it comes to financial problems. Most of the issues pertain to Xixi's growth as a young girl.

It is rare to find a novel that focuses on this aspect. I really recommend it! However, as I said at the beginning, it's not for everyone. If you're 100% certain you like this kind of novel, give it a try! <<less

Good Novel if I say so myself. One of the few CN novels that I really had the patience to read to the end. Before reading this novel I just want to remind new readers to read the TITLE & not judge the novel just because the MC being an ex-assassin & not killing people anymore makes this a tr*sh novel. Just take the MC being an ex-assassin as an explanation for the MC being omnipotent being that MC needs specific skills during his previous life's job.

The novel is really... more>> just a slightly slice of life novel & the MC having knowledge for money-making because of already test-proven end-product like (social medias, famous movies, songs & other stuff).

For some of the negative reviews here's what I want to say
Spoiler

There really is no need to take things too seriously like **** are you a professor that needs to analyze every single things that are way over the top just so you could just say this is a bad novel? Let me just say this "THIS IS FICTION IN A PARALLEL WORLD" meaning there is no need to overthink stuff like there is no facebook or other social medias it's because "THIS IS FICTION IN A PARALLEL WORLD", Company leaders are dumb well "THIS IS FICTION IN A PARALLEL WORLD". This novel is FICTION, reality already broke when MC transmigrated

[collapse]

There are really no high or low tensions throughout the novel IMO. It's just the MC taking care of his kid (s) most of the time,
Spoiler

though he got together with the FL, there are not enough moments for the two

[collapse]

My only gripe about this is the sudden time skips near the end, you can tell that the author is rushing to finish the novel in the last 10 chapters. All the side characters are just given a few paragraphs to tell that they have a happy ending. But still this is a nice novel to read.

& BTW I still can't believe a novel is rubbish when you got the patience to read it to the end in my opinion you just don't like the genre of the novel not because the novel is tr*sh/rubbish. If it's truly rubbish you might as well stop reading in just 10-50 chapters, it's not like you're a masochist forcing yourself to read something you don't like. <<less

I'm going to echo the positive reviews and say that this story is totally worth it. It's slice of life so if you enjoy that type of stuff you'll defo like this.

Also wtf is up with that dude saying that the MC is nationalistic? This novel was so fking refreshing bc the MC actually has respect for different cultures. He makes western food for his daughter, he teachers he stuff like Snow White, and Frozen... He respects the nationalistic people but he himself is defo not one of those crazies... more>> MCs we see in other stories. There isn't random arrogant young masters all over the damn place (maybe only one in the first 100 chapters, and he didn't go too far). This is defo worth a read folks! <<less

I think this is one of the most realistically written C-novel's I have read. The way the children are written is how a child should be portrayed, naive to the world but also questioning and responding correspondingly. Though there is bias to how the mc's daughters skills are like, they are within range to what a child can do. The children are not super op and adult-like, like what you see in a lot of Female Protag. Novels.

Even though this is technically a transmigration novel, it is mostly about how... more>> Yang Yi is adapting and accepting his new lifestyle compared to his past self. He has a daughter and a wife which he didn't have in the past. Him learning and growing as a character different from an assassin is what we really see with the MC. Though you can say he is not the original, but he is at the same time since they basically merged into one soul and person. I think that can explain his less blood thirsty attitude, along with the fact that the original Yang Yi was a highly prolific soldier in the army. This really helped him integrate into his new identity.

A flaw is that the novel is dragged on for too long. I get that the author may have a vision in how to end the novel, but at times it can be unnecessary. At one point, I found that the novel could of really ended there, like when Yang Yi and Mo Fei finally became a couple or when she found out his pseudonym. The rest is just like a long after-story. I felt the author just really wanted to make Yang Yi into this op character who has the abilities to gain and thrive in whatever industry he enters but that was kind of already established in the beginning. The fact that the author continued adding on to Yang Yi's career was adding much more workload than necessary. He can cook, has OCD, 3 cats, a daughter, a wife, a coffee shop, an author, a songwriter, a scriptwriter, and so on. He is basically a stay at home dad with multiple jobs outside. I know the author wrote it seemingly like he has all the time in the world, I don't think he does realistically. Mo Fei was written with a more understandable circumstance and it doesn't really balance out. However that does not stop the novel from being great. Though it is unrealistic to the large amount of work he has piled on him, even with him being a former highly skilled assassin, I think it all works out with the social interactions and slow and steady progresses he takes with his like. Like his development with Mo Fei, his family, his friends, and his in-laws. There are steps taken and they are not rushed like his career was. At times, you sometimes just learn to accept certain plot devices when it doesn't truly affect the flow or purpose of the story. <<less

Completed with the help of mtl. I like the MC and story itself as slice of life. But to enjoy the novel you need to get over the FL. She will get better later on but at the novel start she is exreemly selfcentered woman who treats MC very very unfairly. Later on you get to know how she got child with the MC and why MC was not there when the girl was born. And after knowing it FL seems to act even wors before MC and she get... more>> officially together. If I would be a man I could not have acepted how she acted with him. Well it gets better later on as author fixes the FL probably beckause the readers complained about it too much.

It's a gem!

Not sure how the 1-star reviews were liked too often when the novel's translations are still not done so I'm putting my 5-star recommendations at chapter 115 just to encourage others to give this novel a big chance! The author definitely has writing skills and the translator is also doing a very good job. The story has good transitions per story arc.

But with over 1, 000 chapters, I would have to see how the story ends before really giving my full review.

I got to the part where he’s buying a car and couldn’t take it anymore. It’s supposed to be slice-of-life childcare all sweet and cute? But the MC is downright immature, how could he have survived as an assassin in his other life and how could he possibly raise a little girl into anything decent? I cringed so hard at the antics of this mother and father duo.

The only redeeming feature is the cute little girl but it’s far from enough to keep me reading. I usually love childcare novels... more>> and would ignore a lot of bad stuff for cute children but this one was just too ridiculous. <<less

this book is great. The interaction between him and his daughter is cute, the romance between him and his wife is adorable. The romance is built not really fast and not too slow. The interaction between other character is great too, they have their own life story too.. And side chara have their own romance too, and that's a plus. And moreover the MC is really low-key and there is no arrogant young master. If he want to prove he's great, he just make a song or variety show that... more>> can beat them.

the minus thing is he is not really like an assassin, he can remember a lot of song, movie and even some cartoon story. And for me, I think the slice of life part is too much, at first I thought he will make a lot of book and movies. But after chapter 1000 he only make few books and 4 movies.

overall, if you want to have a cute slice of life story between dad and daughter, this is recommend for you. <<less

Spoiler

Basically, this novel is about a killer transmigrating into an ex-soldier body. He instantly fell in love with the body owner's daughter and decided to live a normal and happy life.

So, he resolutely retired from being an assassin and had an easy life with his past life skills and memory (I think it's already so OP though).

The romance with FMC is also very good, everything goes with the flow. There's no premise like you have to be mine cause you're the mother of the child. MC and FMC are interested in each other purely because of their mutual interaction.
