Ruan family was on the verge of bankruptcy. The little princess Ruan Yan, who was their most beloved, fell from the status of a celebrity overnight and became temporarily blind.

On a rainy night, she was kicked out of the house and crouched by the roadside with nowhere to go. Until a black car stopped in front of her. A series of footsteps approaching sounded and then the rain did not fall on her again. It was then she heard a low male voice above her head.

“Are you not the little princess of the Ruan family? How about becoming my wife?” A few months later, the Ruan corporation was acquired and Ruan Yan became its sole heir.

***

Because of her blindness, Ruan Yan never saw the appearance of the man who married her.

He had been taking her to treat her eyes and after a few months, she finally got better. One morning, she woke up feeling the light in front of her eyes. She was pleasantly surprised to realize that her sight had been restored.

She vaguely saw the man lying on her side. His eyebrows were like swords and eyes were like stars.

As her sight shifted, her pupils shook. Wasn’t this once Ruan family’s biggest competitor, Zhou Mengyan, who was worth tens of billions in financial circles?

She shrank back in fright, “You, you…”

The man opened his eyes to look at her with a smile in his eyes, “Mrs. Zhou, it was not like this when you stuck to your husband last night.”

Personally I enjoyed this novel. The character development of FL and ML was wonderful. Gradual and evolving but they did not change at the core. FL was still a soft person at the end, ML was still taciturn to everyone else. The relationship development of both FL and ML was amazing. Growing from a business marriage to something real.

There was no over the top "evilness" or exaggerated drama. The novel was written like how real life can be though I did feel the recovery from being blind was unrealistic. She... more>> did spent almost half of the novel being blind, if it matters to anyone. <<less

Warning: Harsh Review ahead.

I don't know if it's the translation, but logic seems to go out the window with this one. The author can't do basic math: ... more>>
Spoiler

at first she's 30, but a few chapters later she's a freshman in college? The shopping trip... omg, I can't even:

[collapse]

Spoiler

"It's shoes are inlaid with gold and silver. A pair of shoes is considered to be no less than six figures. It is a discounted out-of-season item."

[collapse]
Why is she, the rich matriarch who's husband owns the store looking at discounted shoes?

However, ARE they discounted?:
Spoiler

"Your pair of wool pointed-toe Muller shoes are new arrivals from two days ago." Really? So are they discounted or not? I'm thinking not, and it's just a translation error.

[collapse]
However this kind of thing happens in every line in this story.

Furthermore:
Spoiler

"The price is 188, 800. The price of the suede high heels you just tried will be slightly more expensive, 228, 800." So my girl bought both but the total is: "The president brought his wife to buy shoes. He's too generous. One swipe is 1.2 million."

[collapse]
What kind of math is this?

Thestory telling is too disjointed and dumbs my brain. I'm okay with reading poor translations as long as you can figure out the meaning. God knows I appreciate translators' hard work and don't mind bad grammar at all. But if I can't figure out the story or the facts are all over the place, then bye bye.

Read at your own risk. Maybe another reader can figure this out. I don't know if it's the author or translation, but maybe I'd MTL this myself some other day and find out.

Edit: The problem is the translation: MTLing the raws say "a pair of shoes below 6 figures is considered a discounted item." May seem like a small error, but it makes you misunderstand the story.
I compared the MTL and the translator's version, and the translator seems to have MTLed too, but used worse grammar. The Machine Translation has better flow of story than the translator's version, so I will be machine translating for myself now. All the best to the translator. If I have advice for the translator, it's to copy the machine translation verbatim, and don't make edits unless it's things like changing 'Mrs.' to 'Mr.' Ganbatte to you.

Edit: To the reviewer above me, (boredinthehouse) everything I quoted in my spoilers were copied and pasted straight from the translated text provided by the translator. Did it affect my comprehension of the story? Certainly. Which is what I said in the review. I don't know if anything was edited on the translation page after my review, but again, what I quoted was exactly pasted from the translation page.

As I said in my original review, "maybe another reader can figure this out". Certainly, "boredinthehouse" could figure it out but no need to reference me in your own review. Please keep me and my comprehension out of your own personal review. Thank you. <<less

I beg to disagree to the review under (SSKF) It never mention that FL was 30 y/o but I read that she was blind for 30 days, maybe u misunderstand? And for the total amount I thinks you also had miscalculation because the ML bought her 5 pairs with the lowest price of almost 200k. The translator may made some mistakes but what u pointed was a mistake for ur comprehension, I think?:)

A simple and lovely story of two individuals falling in love when they never expected. Synopsis is kind of misleading. MC was very clear who she was marrying from the beginning. I absolutely love both MC and ML. They were awesome, individually and together. From the very start, they had their priorities clear and set. Initially ML came out as very buisness minded and cold but there was a reason why he had such personality, which stems from his childhood. MC looked like a small poor rabbit but she is... more>> actually very balanced individual. Anyways even though they were together initially for convenience but from the very beginning, they had mutual respect for each other. There was no forced anything. They were equal partners in their relationship.

For example
Spoiler

When ML actually confessed and started chasing her. He agreed to abstain from physical relationship with MC (which they were already indulging in after their first wedding) because MC wasn't comfortable now that she knew he liked her and even he wanted her to be with him completely not only in physical sense but in heart too.

[collapse]

Also, I liked MC's Dad and ML's parents. They were really cool. There was no dog blood drama about why you married him/her.

Ofcourse, there were some annoying flies around but they were swept out cleanly during last chapters of main story.

Spoiler

The extras till chapter 71 contains MC going to college to complete her studies, building her acting career, their second wedding, pregnancy and birth of their kids and their life after.

If you cant sleep, read this, the best sleeping pill in history, its cutie cutter crap at its lowest.
Let's forget that the author forgets/Ignores that the girl is blind half the time that REALLLY drives me crazy.

The FL is a weak little creature what grows a little spine after 70 chapters (out of 122) ?!?! The MC is a s*x obsessed 0 dimension character. I just feel intensive hate for him. He has no positive traits, oh his rich and good looking (yay) Her long time Friend (i guess ML2?) is warm caring and loves her to the bone, he would be 1000% times better. But since the Author had to sh*t out a Novel about a Ceo and a poor girl we get to read this abomination.

I may be a little mean, so don't mind me but...

Oh my god. This book could not get any more boring. Honestly, there is no plot, no drama, nothing really happens for like 10 chapters in a row. I could not get past 50 chapters of this even if I wanted to. I just feel like the author took a bunch of really cliche plot points, and stretched it out as much as possible. I don't quite understand how there are so many good reviews/okay reviews. I am a person... more>> who could power through some of the most boring novels, and even this is too much for me. <<less

Only MTLd the main story (ch 55), so this review doesn't cover the side stories.

The story is a light-hearted romance with no real conflict. Overall a solidly pleasant read and I like the pacing and general writing style from the author. There is also satisfying closure with all the antagonists without unreasonable and dramatic face-slapping.

One thing I really liked was the portrayal of a business marriage and that they took the alliance seriously and respectfully, but also logically.

Spoiler

They slept together on their wedding night and the FL did not get super shy about it or dramatically push him away. I mean, she was still shy, but understood that they were married and that it may come up sooner or later. He didn't force her though or expect that she'd be a virg*n before marriage, which is refreshing for CEO novels.

And had they not fallen in love, I'm sure they still would've continued to have children just for the purposes of having heirs/continuing family bloodline.

The ML's parents was a business marriage that eventually turned affectionate which is probably why he was indifferent to the idea of marriage. The FL truly understood that she acquiesced to the role of a daughter marrying to save her father's company and had no expectations except that the company be saved.

I also appreciated how they didn't stay in the same room after his confession since their relationship was no longer a 'cold' marriage and they both knew that any intimacy was now laced with romantic feelings, and thus, fragile.

[collapse]

Only gripe is that the FL doesn't really have that much depth. It's a little more muted than most other novels since she does have a personality, but there's really nothing she can't do. She's smart, extremely pretty, genteel but kind, great with theater acting but also great in her finance major, etc. Her only insecurity stemmed from her blindness and it ends up going away.

I appreciate some of those traits since it doesn't cause too much angst as a reader but looking back after reading the end, it kinda makes the novel seem dry.

The ML is 'perfect' too, but in line with a lot of these other novels. The only thing that caught me by surprise is that he respects her autonomy. When she wanted to go out with friends and delayed her return home, he was disappointed but didn't prevent her from doing it. He also let her have her own life and career, even if it meant she'd spend less time with him. No yandere behavior from this almost-cliched CEO. <<less

It was okay. The story moves along with not a lot of conflicts because, although ML has his silent moments and FL has her insecurities, they do talk some important things out before it gets to the breaking point.

Spoiler

At first, ML married FL for interest, a contract marriage, because FL has 8% shares in her father's company and ML wants the company. Eventually though, he falls for her and starts to consider her feelings and interest, going against his usually rules of always taking business first to take better care of FL. However, he hit himself in the foot because he once told her that their marriage will have no feelings, which prevented FL from thinking too much and falling for him, and thus began his wife chasing phase. He confessed to her on valentine's day and she allowed him to pursue her. They got together after a maddening drunken night.

ML's high school FL has loved him for more than 10 years and acts like a white-lotus, always hiding her selfishness. She gets close to FL and tries to instigate discord and didn't stop her scriptwriter friend from changing script to bully FL. Yes, FL went into the entertainment business despite being blind. ML saw and broke relations.

As for FL's family, father woke up and divorced stepmother, driving mother and daughter out of the house.

[collapse]

The story with the uncle and bestfriend is also interesting and could have been heart-wrenching. <<less

Actually wanted to give 3 stars but cl**ked the wrong one lmao

Average cliche story. Not necessarily bad, if you need something to read to pass time, it’s an okay read

But after they get married I feel like half of the story is about them banging and the other half the actual plot

This was a relatively fun read that benefits from being short, because by the end, I had a serious case of the no longer cares.

What worked and what didn't in the novel?

First and most importantly the writing and the translation were comprehensible and engaging even though they had problems. On the author's part, there was the usual no sense of time or how long things take, or what's involved in most of what they were talking about. The translation was readable despite unit, pronoun and phrase errors. At one point... more>> the MC was described as being 1 meter 6 inches tall, which would make her 3'10" a very tiny lady.

Characters were a little weak. In the mc's case it was understandable and worked well. The ML was a cookie cutter CEO. He was basically an ice cube that got thawed. The other characters were one dimensional. The stepmother and step sister escaped from Cinderella. The jealous girlfriend was a generic from any of thousands Chinese novels.

The plot well there were about four of them ongoing, the domineering CEO romance, the Cinderella story, family fighting for family property, and MC in the entertainment industry. Of the 4, only CEO romance was any good. The Cinderella story was too easily resolved, same goes for the property struggle. The entertainment story was meh. The romance worked well and was pleasant bit of fluff.

Bottom line: A not bad afternoon binge <<less

Huh, so I'm not the only one that dropped this at around this chapter, it just got kind of boring. It was a "marriage out of convenience" but it doesn't make sense to marry someone for 8% of the shares of a company when his status is much higher and he has more money. It seems as if the author wanted to make up a reason for them to marry without feelings. Also, yes, the synopsis is very very different to the actual novel, she knew who he was even... more>> before he suggested the marriage. <<less

I really love this novel. I actually MTL all of the chapters in one sitting. My favourite scene is definitely the ML's confession to MC. It's soooo sweet that it's diabetic.

I love the MC. She's really emotionally strong in that she doesn't make a fuss or whine about her situation. She knows she's in dire strait. She's very pragmatic and that's one big factor, the other is that she does not fall in love with the ML until much later. She doesn't freely hand out her affections. I love her... more>> relationship with her dad and her best friend. Seriously, I would want to be friends with her. She doesn't dwell too much on her current situation. Don't get me wrong she does get frustrated and angry, depressed and sad just like anyone else. She's not a Mary Sue. She's not a martyr.

I absolutely adore this female lead. She enters the contract marriage with her eyes opened. She's not starry eyes expecting romance, flowers and love instead her responses and treatment of the ML are respectful and practical.

But I love how she won't let people bully her. She executes it in such a dignified way. I love how the author does throw in some challenges but at least they are believable.

I really like the male lead. He does develop over time and oh boy the transformation is so well-executed and sweet! The best part is there is no forced seduction, they actually communicate and get to know one another. Yes, there are the usual tropes of misunderstanding but that's to be expected as they are still getting to know each other. At least there are real conversations. I love the progress of the relationship and I really hope this novel may be made into a drama. <<less

Ruan Yan and Zhou Menyuan are the best couple ever!!!! I agree with lazymonkey, the synopsis is very misleading. Both of them knew each other and got married due to benefits and later fallen in love like an overflowing river stream which is love more everyday. And you guys will be surprised how they fit each other sooo muchhh >///<

Spoiler

With their cute three children, Zhou Mo (exactly copy of his father), the twins Zhou Mian (father's daughter) and Zhou Huai (the playful son)

The novel is decent read as it is short and doesn't have that much angst. It started off with your typical business marriage. The first half of the novel will make you feel like couple really did marry for business only. No getting to know each other, no emotional attachment.

ML

Spoiler

ML started out as your typical cold hearted man with a sad and dark past. All he wants in his life is success and fortune. He didn't like FL and just treated his marriage with her as a stepping stone to gain footing in managing her shares and company. But as the story goes on, there was a subtle change in his attitude towards the FL and slowly falls in love with her.

[collapse]

FL

Spoiler

Another typical beautiful FL who have bit*h ass step-mother and half-sister. She accepted ML's proposal bec she wants to save the her father's company as well as a guardian for her and her father. She didn't developed any (deep) romantic feelings for ML during half of the novel. But she did respect, trust and admired him which becomes the basis for her to reciprocate his love for her

[collapse]

Romance: What I love about this novel is how it focused on the slow-burning romance (or in ML's language - Not vigorous, but a long stream) of the main character.

Other characters: They weren't given that much spotlight in the novel, side kicks and rivals. They were just simply there to help build the relationship of the MCs. Some even disappeared after a few lines or chapter. No over the top b*tches who are ready to kill the FL for ML. My only regret is how the sexy scenes are not as detailed as I hope it will be. Oh, there was one scene that has it but it's still not enough!

Overall, its a cute short novel that I won't hesitate to re-read if the translations will be better. No offense to the translator. <<less

Reading till here. May or may not pick up again.
As of Chap 38, this is a very chill novel. Not too much drama, not too much fluff. It’s more of a teenage kind of shoujo novel.
Something like to start of your reading journey. Good for younger readers.

As for myself who has been drenched with drama and dog blood and fluff, I am not the likely audience for this novel.
