Having an outstanding tutor was the bare minimum of a good teaching environment.

This was the fundamental reason behind Di Lin choosing Saint Padeus’ Magic Institution.

But only after entering the school did he realise—

His imagination was too perfect, while reality was too disastrous. Friends were scarce, and the tutor was difficult to deal with.

The saying Di Lin passed down to later generations: “My glorious times… started from remaining silent.”

I've read up to I think about chapter 10 or 14 (not sure because the format on the raws on the website is different)

Anyways, this is definitely a slow burn love and the politics between the two countries is quite good.

I also jumped around to when both the MC and ML developed their relationship and I have to say I am completely satisfied.

This novel is very good and I feel like the writing are similar to god level summoner. Not the storylune per se but how everything unfolds. Basically... more>> if you liked god level summoner, the legendary masters wife, or anything similar to those you may like this story.

Spoiler

P.s. I've always had an inkling that Di Lin is the gong but when the bed scene happened he was the bottom. And then Di Lin said, "I will be the top."

Hyde raised his brow, "If you can win against me in magic then you can be the top."

Little did he know this line allowed Di Lin to become unmatched in his magic.

Me: *cackles*

Aye the equality in their relationship. It makes me happy there's no set position. It's basically s*x and enjoying the pleasure. But Hyde said that because Di Lin obviously wants to top his instructor (Even though Hyde doesn't mind whatever position he's in)

I think I should do justice for this novel in terms of reviews.

Di Lin our big bro MC is royalty from a country. He and a friend came to Saint Padeus magical institution, to learn magic. His temperament is quite calm and steady.

Our main male is Hydin a tutor in Saint Padeus magic academy. He's hella strong but rude and poisonous. He has high expectations for Di Lin as he sees him in himself and his potential affinity in magic.

Currently reading but like the magic school setting so far. Like... more>> the MC's perseverance and will to prove to Hydin that he can do it as Hydin has high expectations of him. (Will edit)

THANKS TRANSLATOR FOR QUALITY TRANSLATION OF THIS NOVEL~

If you're willing to put up with

"Oh, who's this new person?"

"Super OP dude named A from this super OP country named X. And guess what? He knows this OP dude named B from the same country named X. And this OP dude B did C, D, and E, and he's just so amazing."

times infinity WITH the addition of the cringiest, weirdest names possible, then yeah this is a good novel. In 6 chapters, I haven't even gotten to know the characters but suddenly 10 country names, 15 noble names are... more>> thrown in my face.

This isn't even considered world building or character creation. It's not even 1/3 as interesting as that. It's literally just names being thrown in your face, small info about which countries hate each other. And honestly speaking? The magic school professes it doesn't like getting caught between country-to-country arguments, but the sheer number of noble students in the first 6 chapters is literally just... ???

This is novel is the first in a series of five that involves a world of magic. That being said, there is a good amount of world building in this novel as it is presumably the set up for the remainder of the novels.

In this first novel, MC is a calm, logical noble who enrolls in St. Padeu's Magic Institute in order to escape from a life of politics. He is subsequently picked up by his unrelenting and generally unreasonable tutor, ML. The vast majority of the novel details MC's... more>> efforts as he works hard to become a formidable mage.

As for the romance, ah well. I'm not sure what I expected.

Spoiler

ML was so blasé about it that at first, I didn't understand that they had really gotten together. If you were hoping for any tsundere, abandon all hope because ML stays very much in character. It basically went like this.

MC: Hey tutor, if I said I like you, would you agree to accept me?
ML: Yeah, sure.
MC: Wait, are we together now?
ML: Yeah, but you still have to do your homework.

[collapse]

Hopefully someone will pick up the remaining novels soon as the overarching plot was not unveiled in the first novel and it ended on a cliff. Looking forward to it~ <<less

This is a great fantasy novel but I don't really like it.

The plot is great. The foreshadowing is great. The world building is actually pretty good too. And everything else is really good but it lacks the excitement for me.

There was nothing I could really look forward to. I guess the character development of the MC is something to look forward to but the ending didn't wrap it up nicely. Maybe it's because this is a part of a series so it's the reason why the ending is pretty much... more>> a cliffhanger.

The world building. I just don't think the usual magic, magic beasts, gods, mages, knights and kingdoms world is really something interesting. Although the book did dive deeper by showing the situation between the kingdoms and how it's part of the story. Also with the magic, the book has it's own system. But it really doesn't interest me much. Hmm but as I said this is part of a series so maybe the other books will provide interesting details for the world building.

It's not too noticeable but the characters are OP.

Some things I actually like about this novel is the characters and the relationships between them.

I actually didn't notice the strangeness of the names until I read the reviews lol. I think such names is as expected since most fantasy novels are just like that.

I agree with the other review about not being able to get attached to the characters. I feel like the author doesn't give more details to the other characters because the other books will be about them so they don't really have much screen time in this book. So this is more about the MC and the ML but I just don't find them interesting. Maybe I just can't emphatize with them. The author did really good with the character design and I can see the development. I can understand them but I don't know why but I just can't feel them <<less

This has to be one of the best fantasy books ever. The beginning is a little slow but it needs to be as it needs to set up the rest of the book! I will not spoil it. But please somebody, let me know what the next book is in this series? I need to read it!

Summary: Di Lin is a noble attending the Saint Padeus' Magic Institution (nickname: Holy Institution), which is the dream school of all mages. At the school, students are all assigned a Tutor; MC's is a legendarily powerful tutor who is just as known for his poisonous tongue as his magical ability. The story is about MC learning magic, his interactions with his classmates, and his interactions with his tutor against the political backdrop. Note that from the first chapter MC's goal is to escape politics, so this story isn't too... more>> political.

To all who doubt this story because of the reviewer that was unable to accept characters and settings being introduced at the beginning of the story. Buddy, you read up to CH6. I also agree stories that avoid info dumps are better, but given the premise of the story it can't avoid at least some introductions in the first few chapters. Moreover, the translator even did a helpful summary.

And in fact, the story does get much better later on. Although this story isn't current THAT heavy on politics, the political setting of the Magic Institution is quite important, and the main characters are generally members of nobility. Therefore, some explanations are given in the beginning of the story.

I quite like this story! It feels very peaceful to read? MC's character in the beginning is very mature, but as he realizes his feelings he becomes more and more like his age. I reeeeeally hope he'll be top though, or at least reversible lol. I like ML too; he's OP, but his sharp tongue is interesting to read. I won't comment too much on their relationship since they haven't gotten together yet, but they seem mutually caring.

And the story itself is very interesting. I like the way it portrays learning magic, and MC's growth isn't too Mary Sue either. Plus, the political / magical landscape is interesting to read about. There is definitely a lot of effort put into the world building and plot. This story is definitely more world/plot-heavy than character-heavy.

It was super frustrating to read I guess. I guess I have found there's this weird peculiarity in writing style and conversations between characters in Chinese novels written on Western Fantasy. I had tried reading a few like them before, but the result, I got more vexed the more I read, that may be the reason I really got irritated by MC for some reason. It may be due to the fact the way the conversations went on and how each and every useless expression and reaction is jotted... more>> on in a peculiar fashion.

Spoiler

So the overall vibes these students gave off was like that of 10 year old kids. Especially that sticky Suo suo. I am not judging his character but he was literally a kindergarten kid who got on my nerves the most.

I guess all the MCs in western fantasy Chinese bl are the same, 'modest', somewhat upright at some situations, having 'let's live a monk's life' attitude towards everything, s*upidly impulsive at many situations and a bland character. Like they have mentality of all the age types combined in one.

And sadly I didn't find any character growth.

Really really super frustrating.

My favourite western fantasy. Especially, I like Hydin's character the most. Clever, Sharp, Arrogant, Powerful and have poisonous tongue. And somehow tsundere?? And kind and mature Di Lin.

Slowburn yet warm. Their bond is strong, warm and have mutual respect and challenge. Even the bond between cousins, friends and institution's tutors is lovely and like the kind of family. And of course the society of that era is also well expressed. The power struggles between kingdoms, Institutions and Society of God of light are quite often, too. And our tutor great... more>> mage Hydin's unique teaching method made the story the best! <<less

i really tried with this one. I really did. I saw the reviews say itll get better but as far as I can tell even at chapter 37 the shallow and uncompelling characterizations, obscure plot direction and pacing, frustrating dialogue and setting.... all of this does not get better. maybe I should continue until chapter 70 and itll get better, but I think id rather not exacerbate this headache. maybe this is just par for the course and typical fare for this kind of genre, but I sincerely feel like... more>> my brain just hurts every minute I continue reading. maybe if I was more attached to the characters reading this story would be a more enjoyable experience, but so far I cannot muster a single scrap of affection for anyone. I might be incompatible with this genre. I wish I stopped reading chapters ago. <<less

When I started breaking down the elements of this story I realized it's basically a cultivation novel with a Western-fusion high fantasy skin. I think the new spin makes it interesting. The MC learns magic through the guidance of an incredibly powerful genius teacher with (normally) unrealistic expectations. He thrives in situations that would kill other people but he reaches a timely break through. Magic items, magic beasts, magic competitions, see where I'm going with this? He is surrounded by a supporting cast with varied back stories. Good writing and... more>> a good translator. The first book takes place while he is a student. There are a lot of side stories that continue into the next novel but the first book ends at a decent transition point (assuming the next novel gets translated!). The romance is firmly established by the end of the book. <<less

I like the MC and ML a lot so far! MC exudes competent but doting big brother vibes. Yet, he also has a temper and wants to prove himself to the tutor ML. ML is hella rude and eccentric, but he seems to hold high expectations for the MC. Who knows why? Also digging the magic school setting.

4 stars!

Read it all with MTL because I probably would not be able to understand much of this if I read it in Chinese. I like the world building and the characters although I can tell it is the first book in a series (it ended with a BIG cliffhanger).

The romance is a subplot that was more subtle. I'm not even sure how old is ML? I like their dynamic and how MC slowly comes to realise his feelings.

I'm just wondering why ... more>>

there wasn't a bigger reaction towards the end when NY sort of sacrificed himself to save everyone. It ended the fight and everyone went home and it was just a speedrun to graduation. That was it.

4 or 4.5 real rating, its alright, it s a really quick read, but I guess I got too excited about it because I like magic and BL and it's quite hard to find those things right now so when I started this my expectations were quite high. The prospect of Di Lin and Hydin's relationship was also good, but I have to say, , , it didn't quite reach my expectations, or at least the build up cause they only got together like 20-30 chaps near the end, and... more>> there wasn't really much sweetness. It's kind of a pity that Hydin didn't really change much. I also kind of disliked how Di Lin just felt like a side character even if he felt the wind elements, it was still kinda not hyped too much compared to the real side characters' situations. Di lin felt like the good guy helping different main protags lol.

I personally like Di Lin, but I think the author did not give his character too much justice, , he had so much potential, but this story literally just contains less than a year of his life, so of course there would really not be much change.

Spoiler

I hated how there had to be an insertion of Ning Ya's whatever his relationship is with that OP character who doesn't really matter to Di Lin and Hyin, it's like the author made this story about Di Lin and Hydin just as a prelude to the next couples lol. I dislike also the one with Suo Suo? Like there was never really a significance about him, , the author literally just used this story to introduce him, I bet the next series would be about ning ya and that red dude then suo suo and idk, maybe xi luo? Who would write a whole chapter about their expenditures together when the story is not about them? It didn't even concern Di Lin too much, anw, it was disappointing, I kinda regret giving that 5 rating hmmm

[collapse]

It was still fun, cause it's short, also, I stopped at chap 96, so close to the end but I don't feel like continuing it anymore.

Reread? Is a no cause there wasn't really much to it. Might as well have been a short story <<less

Spoiler

For those who like spoilers; Ningya's curse has something to do with an invader (God of Slaughter) coming to his country, that's why he's acting so sus and hot/cold the entire time. They might be a CP as well (very big hint for the other novels? Ningya x God??) Anyways, nothing happens to the antagonists. No such thing as face slapping, but I love this aspect of the novel as well! Personally... I wish I could ship the prince of kandling with suo suo... I think its very sweet..!

I enjoyed it! I like the easy going pace of this novel. It's very clear cut, we get to enjoy each arc to the fullest without worrying about a thousand different things. The foreshadowing is also done nicely, I stayed for the characters. The ML's sharp tongue is honestly very refreshing, I think it came off really well! Although at first I wasn't too sure about the others, eventually it became alright. Yeah! <<less

Quite interesting so far, but definitely a slow burn.

The style of this story is very distinctive and set apart from most novels you'll find on this site in that the writing kinda leans a lot more to western literature and traditional novels stylistically and content-wise. (With the exception of some names, of course.)

Usually you'll find chapters that you can binge fast and easy but for this novel, you have to learn how to slow down and savor it a bit more, which may or may not be comfortable for... more>> some readers.

However I can confirm that writing-wise, it is definitely up to par. <<less

This is a different kind of book then most bl novels out there and I'm loving it. It almost like those fantasy novels for example 'The Glass of Throne' or 'The Red Queen'. I'm really satisfied with every aspect in the story but it's certainly not for all. The romance aspect is almost non-exist until the end of the novel which is fine for me btw. I really took my time to read this to actually understand everything and is even thinking about reading the rest of the series if... more>> someone translates it. <<less
