Zhu Ming, a neuroscience genius whose career was derailed by an accident that left him unable to walk, had his dreams of scientific research shattered—and put his future marriage on the line.

Forced to go on a blind date, he comes face-to-face with the cold and handsome Xi Xianqing.

This proud and haughty jewellery designer has a spiritual form as a green peac*ck that cannot naturally spread its tail.

Xi Xianqing said coldly, “I’ll help you with your aunt, you’ll help me with my spiritual form. A marriage agreement benefits us both, and we can divorce after a year.”

Zhu Ming’s past profession made him drawn to challenging cases involving spiritual forms, and he saw Xi Xianqing as a compelling candidate for experimentation.

Zhu Ming smiled. “Let’s see how it goes.”

Later in their marriage, Zhu Ming developed a highly-effective medicine, which Xi Xianqing took for months, but the peac*ck showed no change.

Zhu Ming devised a new form of mental treatment. After several treatments, the peac*ck remained unable to shake even a single feather.

—Until a certain c*cktail party, the completely drunk Zhu Ming smiled as he hooked his arm around Xi Xianqing’s neck and, in front of the crowd, gave him a passionate kiss that echoed.

Once Zhu Ming sobered up, he was hit with a splitting headache. “…Sorry, I’m really bad at holding my liquor.”

Xi Xianqing remained silent for a while before saying, “Next time, please drink more responsibly,” and then walked away.

Zhu Ming was upset with himself for having crossed the line.

He sighed and looked down through the window, happening upon an expressionless Xi Xianqing in the garden.

—As well as the green peac*ck that was frantically spreading its tail behind him.

Cute and entertaining, they really do complement each other and grow to be their best selves for each other. Their bickering is very entertaining. Nice read as are the other novels from this author.

A very cute and easy read. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main leads, with a cold but internally passionate (mensao) ML and a seemingly easygoing but actually quite emotionally repressed MC. The two of them bring out sides of each other that they would otherwise keep hidden, and are able to open up only when around each other (just like ML's plumage display). The plot is somewhat predictable, but it's still charmingly executed, with a little bit of sourness around the mid-end point, but overall with a... more>> sweet and healing tone.

On the translations, I just want to point out that there are two translations right now, one which is HTL and the other MTL (which was posted after the other one), and it feels pretty disrespectful for this MTLer to continue to post despite someone else having already started, especially since they've even admitted that they haven't even finished reading the novel before starting their translation. Please support human translators, this is just so discouraging for them, and I really don't want to see the translation space completely overrun by MTL. <<less

Super cute story!! I love both of the protagonists and their interactions, and overall I really enjoyed reading this. There is some angst towards the end but don't worry, the healthy amount! The buildup of the romance was perfect to me.

If there was one thing I sorta disliked, it would be ... more>>
Spoiler

how rushed Zhu Ming's legs healing was. It was happening way too quick to my taste, and wasn't quite realistic... that might be because the novel is so short and there was no time for slower healing.

It's a shame that couldn't be better but honestly, it's a minor issue and easy to ignore. I also don't think it takes away much of the novel, unless you know a lot about that subject and so is too obvious for you to ignore.

Either way, it's a pretty short and lighthearted read, and I highly recommend! <<less

This is really good. It only has 67 chapters, but it doesn't feel too short or too long. The pacing felt good too.

The MC and ML are awesome! They feel fleshed-out and well-written. I also like how the author reversed the stereotype of high IQ/low EQ STEM person and high EQ/low IQ artist/designer (not that either of them have low IQ). The ML is a bit tsundere, but he doesn't actually harm the MC. The relationship isn't toxic despite it starting from a fake marriage. The MC and ML both... more>> have flaws that make them feel more like real humans, but neither are s*upid. They're also really sweet together. I respect how the MC has a backbone. I love how they came to an understanding despite being such different people coming from completely different backgrounds. The side characters are pretty good too.

The plot was good. It was a little predictable, but it was fun to read and there were some twists.

Also, I removed the Guide-verse tag because the summary says non-guideverse, and it's not a guideverse. It's similar to the concept of daemons in His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman). Basically, each person gets a spirit animal. <<less

A perfect length.

Very enjoyable novel about a cute bickering couple. The ML is super tsundere. The MC is very teasing, but hides a lot of his trauma.

Spoiler

I also really enjoyed that the MC's disability didn't mean the author gave him no agency. Rather, he was the one who took initiative most of the time.

The ML is also pretty unusual in breaking common CN tropes. He is a jewelry designer and focuses more on the art side, while MC is the science genius.

Overall good pacing without dragging.

I enjoyed Chyrsanthemum Garden translation. <<less

Huuu man I really thought this would end up as one of my favorites with the bickering cp on equal standing who also knew to support eachother and not act illogically

Alas, I think after the first dozen chapters that initial excitement started chipping off, it started with small discrepancies between their characterizations, s*upid stereotypes that kept being brought up and used by people who are supposedly geniuses (unfortunately regional?and other kinds of stereotyping, ableism, gossiping blatantly etc are customary sidedishes in chinese novels), certain events that should have happened or... more>> been more fleshed out were only mentioned with a couple lines frustratingly and then it snowballed into this bitterness every time I would move onto the next chapter and find myself more annoyed lol

I think I feel particularly bad for xxq seeing him get treated
Spoiler

mistreated by his family, zm being insensitive during treatments and then watching him onesidedly fall while zm flirted obliviously. The so-called sourness was xxq suffering from the needless separation and I should have dropped then to save myself from the needless pain, except I hoped zm would chase xxq to soothe this angst and also show the sincerity of his feelings but nah :v Personally I didnt feel much romantic affection from zm's side at all even till the end which just made me more irritable as I read further lol

Only 14 chapters in, but so far I love it. The translator is doing a fantastic job, the story is interesting, the romance is building up in a realistic way, and the characters (esp our mischevious but very kind and super smart MC) are likable. He is disabled, and the author delves into the impact of the MC's paraplegia on him and his family. Definitely give it a read!

Such a lovely read! I loved how the relationship developed. Not too slow, not too rushed, just right for the right amount of sweetness. While ML was a chronic tsundere, he showed enough with his actions for the story to remain sweet. There was miscommunication, but thankfully it didn't get dragged on.

I liked the world setup and the districts, and I liked the premise - it worked very well in getting the MC and ML to meet new characters and develop their own relationship along the way.

The antagonist took me... more>> by surprise too - I didn't expect a throwaway detail from an early chapter to come back in that way. <<less

PEAKK. Scratches all the right itches.

Like, this is all I ever wanted. A cold duke of the north kind of tsundere ML but with the right MC whose playful and can call the ml's bs instead of going on a long misunderstanding arc by not speaking up. Still has the perfect ratio of bitterness and sweetness though!! I laughed, I cried, and fangirled like crazy. Their romance felt so natural and I LOVEDDD the confession scene.

I like their different philosophies in life and their thought processes, its very human and... more>> I understand where it stems from. Mc's line of thinking is so mature and understandable and I wish I can say more, but I can't spoil it but you'd understand it once you read the story. I love how people of disabilities are treated here, with respect and how they're like any actual person.

Every plotline has a foreshadowing. Not too short, not too long, perfect pacing. Not the type of story wherein they get together fast leading to like a stagnation in the storyline where they're just together and nothing is happening anymore. And wow, for a romance and the author's first time writing this, the worldbuilding is very seamless. Literally no complains.

Though I have to say, whilst I was reading I saw some comments and just have to speak up in behalf of the author and this novel. It doesn't have a drama/set in real life tag for a reason, so please don't take anything too seriously and nitpick like "That would never happen" and "Why didn't they do this?". Don't forcibly ruin your suspension of disbelief and expect something from a novel when it isn't tagged as such. It's a fantasy and romance. But please don't let this section in my review throw you off, this doesn't apply to anything important in the story, just minor details and this is just a personal rant. More in spoiler section if you're curious.

Spoiler

Like, when the couple in district 4 started fighting and even injured the ml, yes in real life, there would have been more grave consequences. You can't just give a robot as an apology. But it's written more for comedic effect rather than an actual tragic and heart breaking fight. This is what I mean when I say don't nitpick and ruin your suspension of disbelief.

Satisfying. C16 — I'm irked by how s*upid MC and hearing-impaired sis-in-law is when there isn't a sign language interpreter to help them communicate although there is presumably writing/drawing device. Maybe they both never became ill enough where vocal cords cannot be used.

Anyways. The story gets better from that hiccup. Well-written engrossing characters who stay true to themselves. Simply a lovely story with a bit of sour. The Extra is really cute (^v^) /
