It wasn’t until her fiancé, Liang Mushi, eloped with someone else on their engagement day that the abandoned Xu Zhi finally realized that true feelings weren’t always reciprocated.

She turned to the man who had always been silently behind her.

Liang Jinmo thought he had grown accustomed to the darkness, but Xu Zhi offered him a ray of light.

“I’m a bit old-fashioned. From engagement to marriage, until death, I don’t change partners.”

He asked her, “This is a lifetime commitment. Have you thought it through?”

Later, rumors spread that the two Liang sons fought fiercely over a woman, and surprisingly, the illegitimate son, Liang Jinmo, emerged victorious.

The world called him cold…

So, yes I'm breaking my rule of not reviewing a series until it's done, but probably not many people care. Same with the rating, as I felt it's too low for the series. Either way, whatever I say in the review is subjected to change, once the series finishes.

I understand if this is a frustrating read for some. The story is basically what's in the synopsis and it's exactly what you'd expect. However, it's executed so well. The characterization of the MC is everything to me. She's kind of a... more>> pushover, weak-willed and passive, but it makes sense due to her upbringing and family situation. I think it's done well, I understand why she acts the way she does. It's also very realistic, not exaggerated at all, and to me she was never annoying. Also based on the 50 chapters that are out, I believe she's slowly developing a backbone, learning how to defend herself and advocate for herself. It was quite satisfying when she finally steps up against her fiancé.

Also, there's a slight difference in her and ML's past from usual that makes more realistic. Also that inciting incident makes the rest of their past and how the ML developed feelings logical and understandable. ML isn't more special than the typical MLs in other novels, but he works well. He has a pitiful past, makes you sympathize with him enough to care.

    Spoiler

Basically, the MC wrongs the ML. She follows along with her fiancé and others and bullies the ML once. She feels so bad about it, that she tries to make it up to him, and genuinely cares about him. To ML her bullying was nothing new, especially since he recognized that she was just going along with others, so he never really held a grudge against her. For him she's the only one who cares about him, doesn't hate him, and looks after him. Of course, he would develop feelings.

    [collapse]

Even her fiancé, as frustrating he's, I think was done realistically. He's just a spoiled little rich kid, that never had to be mindful of others and face the consequences of his actions. <<less
