After her death, Xu Zhizhi transmigrates to a parallel world and becomes a celebrity in the entertainment industry with the same name. She also acquires a criminal assistance system. The original Xu Zhizhi had some fame, with appearance and endorsement fees that could last her three years. Thinking it over, Xu Zhizhi decides to make the best of her new life. However, she arrives too late; this world values acting skills highly. The original Xu Zhizhi had offended some people by refusing to engage in unspoken rule practices, resulting in her being cast as an antagonist in a low-budget crime investigation drama. If she refuses, she faces a breach of contract penalty of 5 million Yuan.

Faced with the choice between acting as a criminal or becoming one, Xu Zhizhi decisively chooses the former. Thus begins her journey of portraying criminals with the standards of a real one. “As long as I act well, I can stay in the entertainment industry until I retire.” With her role as a psychopathic mu*derer in a low-budget online crime investigation drama, she leaves a deep impression on all the viewers.

Viewer 1: [I swear I’ve seen that look in a mu*derer’s eyes. Xu Zhizhi has the same look. Someone should investigate her.]

Viewer 2: [So terrifying! Is she really not the mastermind behind it all?]

Viewer 3: [I can’t look at her too long. I feel like she’ll appear in front of me and hit me in the head.]

Later, Xu Zhizhi becomes a unique specialist in playing antagonists in the entertainment industry, relying on skills like forgery, theft, lock-picking, fraud, and dissection. When she wins the Best Actress award, everyone believes she’s simply acting as herself.

I gave up on this one for a number of reasons. First, it's a long slog. As many mentioned, the chapters are long. There's a lot of exposition that seems unnecessary. And it isn't a comfortable read. Definitely not light and fluffy fare: really you need to replace "antagonist" with "psychopath". Most of her characters are psychopaths and serial killers, as are most of her criminal opponents. And it goes into deep psychological analysis and description of the mu*ders and psychosis.

If you like that stuff, 5 Stars.

Decided to stop reading this story because I just have "enough" of it.

It's a showbiz story, which is my favorite kind of story, but it gets tedious for someone who doesn't like reading a heavy story like me. Especially when:

    • Almost all her acting gig that she accepts are for the Supporting Role / Second Female Lead Villain (you watched cdrama and honestly who would be really care for the second lead and is a villain? Is that enough to make a name for yourself and able to make you a second tier artist in real life? I think not).
    • She also almost only accept psychological/thriller scripts (if she's a real actress I would say that she's not able to act role other than a villain and I would hate to see her face in every drama/movie projects I watched because without knowing her role identity beforehand, I would have able to identified her as the villain first).
    • Our MC is basically and literally a magnet to criminals. There's new case in every new projects she chose. So tedious.
You may think, "Ah it's just 100+ chapter, why would you stop reading it here?". No, even if I stopped reading it at chapter 50, it feels like I have read 200+ chapters. Each chapter and each cases are so long.

Actually I won't even read past case #3 if it's not because I'm really curious about the romance development between the FL x ML. But, I was wrong, even after so many cases, even after 2 years later, they're still friends and rarely meeting each other.

So I skipped to the last chapter to get to know more about this pair but I don't see anything that can be called as romance part. Well, I read that their relationship have developed to something where they tried to sacrifice themselves for each other (they literally did something as the plot got darker), but truly, it wasn't something romantic as it sounds. So yup I just decided to drop this novel.

I think there's no need to put romance tag on this novel, it's just like a sub sub sub-plot? The tag is lying to me *crying*.

I still want to recommend this novel to those who likes showbiz story because of its acting "script" and not for the fun variety shows and romance tho. This novel has many psychological-criminal-investigation script that are great.

I'm sorry if this review looks like a complaint but, really, I just feel like I was being deceived lol. I'm getting in to get the "serious and little heavy" version of the showbiz story I like but turns out I only get a true heavy story... Still, I can't give it a rating lower than 4 star.

[The translations were good! I continued reading the MTL after chapter 58]

I enjoyed this!!! This focuses more on the journey of the FL, solving crime and mysteries as she reaches her goal of financial freedom while furthering her career as an antagonist actress (even when she doesn't want to). The romance doesn't start until the late latter half of the book and is subtle, and tbh not that exciting due to the fact that both the FL and ML are such intelligent, mature, and logical characters, given that one is a police officer and the other an intern lawyer... more>> turned actress after transmigration, so if you were getting into this for an exciting romance, you'd be disappointed. Still, it makes over with the fact that each case is interesting in itself and how they were able to integrate the system's cheats and settings with each case.

On the note of the system, this was a super interesting system choice supported by a common setting of transmigration to an actress. The criminal system??? I lmao'd but I thought the occupation and setting of the FL was perfect! What other profession garners unwarranted malice more than a celebrity? What other suitable profession requires you to have the malice of a psychopath but still live as a law-abiding good citizen besides an actress who plays only evil characters? Each character and story the FL encountered in the projects she took were interesting too, and it was fun to see how each new upgraded or acquired skill she got had involved her in more cases, to the point the police were concerned with how good she was at being a criminal HAHA.

Also, the romance is SLOW like 4 cases in do you only feel the FL and ML have become FRIENDS but with that being said, from the very start they did develop this sort of tacit understanding, where they become very familiar with each other, and they start liking each other without even knowing it themselves. If there had been any other decent man around the FL and written differently, I wouldn't have thought the ML was endgame, with how looking at the timeline, they actually barely meet, only when a case happens. It was funny how even around 4 or 5 cases in, the ML was like "I trust her character but I'm still scared she'll turn out to be a criminal I must make sure she doesn't stray off the right path" lol. Anyway, when I say SLOW I mean it, so come into the book focusing more on the FL cases rather than romance. ps. At chapter 70+ out of 100+ chapters, do they start calling each other more often under the guise of "my case is special and there's no one else I can talk to, only he can understand me but we're just friends" asdfghjkl anyway, romance lovers, you have been warned.

Spoiler

They get together at around 86 chapters in, and there's only 116 chapters plus extra in total. At first, I was frustrated with the pace, but I realized it was quite realistic and suitable for the characters when it came to their progress. But even so, I kinda felt frustrated (?) bored (?) with how slow it was sometimes, and how realistic too HAHAHA let a girl fantasize, please. There was a big case in which she was framed for several mu*ders and his only involvement during most of the time because he was in a different city was like comforting texts... and vouching for her character to investigators, because he was busy with his work, which felt TOO real if you know what I mean. But he makes up for it in the latter half of the case. On that note, I don't really get a good sense of the character the ML is besides what the author repeats as dependable, straightforward, and justice-seeking but not pedantic. I wouldn't say it's the most fleshed-out character, but he is definitely a green flag and was almost made for the FL when it came to personality. It isn't until he confesses to her that we actually get his thought process and how he truly felt about the FL, and that was when I could see more of him as a character. (He's so understanding huhu). Anyway, romance is definitely a background focus in this novel.

[collapse]

Overall, it was fun to see the journey of the FL and how she uses her criminal abilities to do good in the world. I loved the fact that although her goal in life was to earn money and retire, she was also very generous and philanthropic with the money she earned because she knew it was more than what she needed at the time despite aiming for financial freedom. She's very responsible, intelligent, brave, headstrong, kind, and a seeker of justice while being realistic and also fun. I love that she's so lazy HAHA. She's so chill which is why opposites attract here wherein I felt bad with how it was constant suspense in her real life and also in her career life, no wonder all she wants is to lie down.

I would enjoy more novels like this and it's a novel where I can see myself waiting and wishing for more chapters had it still been ongoing. Also, even though you should know from the tags, it is a crime/mystery novel, so there are sometimes sensitive material being mentioned! (ex. Child mu*der, Human trafficking, SA, etc.) <<less

The editor here! I haven't complete the reading yet, but I'm liking it. The MC and ML did not fall for each other too fast, which I like. Slow romance please, more mature.

There was some plot holes I noticed but they're not too bad as to impact the reading itself.

For example, the criminal investigation team didn't know mu*derers always return to the crime scenes to 'admire' their work. I thought it was common knowledge about criminal psychology, so it strikes me as strange.

My actual rating : 4.3/5

Spoiler

The criminal investigation aspect of the novel is great. The cases are nice. I was initially confused on how coincidental they were and gradually got an answer. MC is a strong independent character who is clear about right and wrong. ML is supportive and nice. Her friends and other people around were good too. All the criminals were punished by the law and the victims were given justice. It is a HE.

The MC is smart and laid-back, never losing sight of her goals. She also has good morals, not getting caught up in entertainment industry scandals.

The first few Arcs were exciting, with proper character progression and interactions with interesting characters. Plus the cases were fun.

After a few Arcs it just gets tedious - she always chooses the same roles to play, and even outright states that she won't act in any fantasy movies because she doesn't want to challenge herself like that. This was really disappointing to read since at that... more>> point I really wanted to see a different plot.

Romance: none atm - some people made a few poking jokes about the MC and ML being together but she always refutes them.

TL: pretty good, you can find another fan translated version by searching the English name of this novel

Dropped because it got too repetitive and boring. <<less

It's an enjoyable novel, unfortunately the translation is now gone.

The novel is about an MC who swap places with the dead actress, whom also had a tragic life. With her goal of an early retirement, she thrown herself in the world of acting.

The system is trying to turn the MC into the greatest crook, with malice as tje currency for the system, ironically the MC uses the systems ability to turn into a detective as well as spy for the police.

As much as she dislike it, circumstances always throw her... more>> into the center of all the crimes. <<less

By the third/ forth arc, it was a slog.

Well written? Yes. Clean logic? Up until the last arc when I lost the sauce.

The highlight here is the human relations she's built and her growth as an individual - you can really see her morality shine through.

I started reading with the translation but couldn't wait so I finished in a week with google translate hohoho. A great surprise, I really appreciate the maturity of the characters both FL and ML. The story is a mixture of system, sci-fi, crime and thriller. The first "criminal cases" the FL encounters while filming hook me up, there's a stalemate in the middle wich I though the story was never going to end but oh boy when the end started building you have the angst, the damra, the suspense... The... more>> romance is really slow but their relationship is quite realistic and is build up of trust and understanding. <<less

Read the first arc and damn it was thrilling. In comparison to other crime novels, the FL is not as op, and is putting herself in great danger by getting involved. The writing wasn’t as detailed as other such novels, you’re not going to be wracking your brain trying to figure things out. Rather than suspense, I felt more anxiety. I think this definitely could’ve benefited from being more detailed and including 细节 bc it feels like a lot of the deductions and ideas came out of nowhere

Don't get me wrong. This novel is quiet good. The story is about the MC who transmigrated to the parallel world as an actor and became bound by criminal system. The system literally contains skill rewards related to crime like forgery, disguise, lock picking, etc. And was constantly trying to make our MC go to the wrong path but our MC instead use it for her acting career and also becoming a part-time agent for the police. The earlier arcs were good and I was hooked in reading it. It... more>> was exciting to see our MC having battle of wits with the psychophatic killer in the first arc. But as the I read the middle arcs onwards it became somewhat repetitive as she continued to act as antagonist in drama/movie, became involved in a crime during filming, and solving the crime that I was overcome with fatigue while reading it. It was tiring to continue reading the routined plot and somewhat annoyed with low IQed cannon fodders that keeps trying to undermine our MC in the entertainment industry. Well, if you want to read you can. Tho I suggest to take a break after finishing the every arc as so not to be exhausted easily while reading this novel. Btw, the cases are actually fun. <<less

Oof! That was intense.

Brief synopsis: MC wakes up in a parallel universe in the body of an unknown actress. She finds that she is bound to a system that promises to make her the best criminal in the world. Instead she uses all the "skills" the criminal system gives to her to help solve crime all the while playing a picture perfect villain role on set.

I have a lot of respect for our MC in this novel. For a human it is so so easy to fall into depravity and... more>> evil. Thus it is the hardest thing in the world to have all the tools to be a brilliant criminal but still live in the light. Thus I respect her strong will to do what is right. She is a genuine heroine.

I have come across a multitude of novels (especially with male MCs) who wouldn't hesitate to use such a system to do crimes and revel in their ingenious methods. Thus such a novel that promoted the importance of basic human morality is very fresh and very important.

The romance in the novel is sidelined but doesn't take away from the brilliance of this novel. All scripts that MC stars in is intriguing as well.

The latter part of this novel is a fierce battle between MC and the system, one trying her best to not cross the line to malevolence and one trying it's best to push MC over that line.

All in all, a great read. <<less

Excellent, but the final arc feels a bit weak compared to the other ones. This is easily worth the read, and it will keep you entertained with well paced writing and a good overall plot. The characters are generally good but there is a bit of a 'villain of the week' sort of feeling with the various arcs, although that in itself isn't a bad thing. Honestly this is just a deeply engaging story that is absolutely worth the time to read.

The first TL is gone but the other TL... more>> (dahliya daffodil) has all the chapters. <<less

This is a story about an actor solving crimes while stumbling onto them during shoots in one way or another. Its more fantastical/extreme with its depiction of crime, and its nice that for the most part everyone is competent including the criminals and police. But
Spoiler

mostly its criminals with no evidence until the MC can get a lead due to knowledge gained by the system.

I'm not going to read anymore, but I can recommend at least reading the first arc.
