sorry to be pretentious but I find that quote really satisfies what I feel about the novel. It's an infinite flow type but moreso it's a mystery novel about Fang Xiu - the MC. And amidst all the supernatural elements, it's also a really really satisfying love story hehe.

It's basically 8ish arcs of an escape room/horror world. Earlier arcs focus on the mechanics and later arcs focus on the overarching story. In general, I... more>> quite like the mini stories of each arc. They're grounded in feeling and are varied. Some of them are pretty touching. I liked how things changed up as you learn about Fang Xiu and his motivations and even though he's cunning, the process and result is still interesting to read.

ML is Bai Shuangyin, his contracted ghost who also has his own secrets lol. I was worried ML would basically do everything for him or be his safety net and weaken Fang Xiu's momentum but incredibly, even when ML is op, Fang Xiu is still more intriguing.

Honestly I love Fang Xiu so much. He just ticks of all my plus points. He's so dazzling, he's ruthless but not cruel. He won't hesitate to kill and takes pleasure when 'bad' people suffer. Occasionally kind but mostly mercantile. He basically has like a ten year plan he faithfully follows until he meets ML :D

ML is not human and actually feels very inhuman. Not evil necessary but also just kinda immoral. He's also pure? Not in kindness but like a forest or river is pure. Don't just look at his cold appearance, he's kinda funny in how frank he is and how often he's like omg this thinking thing... fascinating concept...

Omg I love their romance it really got me so invested. You really get to see them fall for each other and they're both so frank about it when they get it. Love watching them change because of each other, accommodate each other, you just basically watch them merge into this unit and it's such a delight

There's also so much physical affection, in unconventional horrific ways too! Love me some horror romance. It's some crazy levels of intimacy they're both into lol.

I also like the general cast of side characters. Most have enough depth to enjoy.

The only con is the climatic arc can get confusing a little and there's way more fighting but it's also after you find out everyone's tragic backstory so it's nice to see them let loose.

Anyways I really recommend this novel. It's not super horror (to me). More like mystery thriller but I think it's definitely worth a read <<less

I don't normally post reviews, but seeing as this one is brand new, I'll give it a boost.

I have loved every single one of Nian Zhong's novels. They are seriously all masterpieces (although Stray is still my fav). I fully expect this one to be just as amazing, and it's infinite flow/unlimited flow, which I also love! Big thanks to the translator for picking this one up; all their translations are very good! Looking forward to reading more. :) (PS I'll come back and edit this one more chapters... more>> are out) <<less
